(00:01) Power and Putting in Golf This chapter explores the fundamentals of generating power in a golf swing, focusing on the crucial role of ground force. We examine how energy originates from our interaction with the ground and is transferred through our bodies to enhance swing speed. Through practical examples, like push-ups and spinning in a chair, we illustrate how pushing into an immovable object—like the ground—creates propulsion. We clarify misconceptions about timing, emphasizing that many golfers apply this force too late in their swings, reducing effectiveness. Insights from recent power schools highlight how understanding and timing ground force correctly can lead to improved swing performance and lower scores. (14:41) Golf Swing Sequencing Tools and Tips This chapter focuses on the importance of proper sequencing in a golf swing and how common issues can arise when the arms move faster than the torso. To address this, we explore simple and accessible tools to improve swing sequencing. We emphasize the benefits of using a rope to practice swings, as it naturally encourages the correct sequence from the lower body to the torso and arms, unlike other tools that allow for pushing. Additionally, we introduce a homemade device made from PVC pipe and a swim noodle to enhance the traditional method of using a club across the shoulders. This innovative tool provides comfort and a springy effect to help golfers rotate their chest effectively without discomfort. Through these practical solutions, we aim to help golfers achieve a more synchronized and powerful swing. (26:07) Improving Distance With Tour Striker This chapter highlights the importance of not just clubhead speed but also ball speed, spin, and launch angle in achieving greater distance in golf. We emphasize that striking the center of the clubface is crucial, as faster clubhead speed is ineffective if the ball is hit poorly. I introduce the Tour Striker club, designed by Martin Chuck, which helps golfers improve their striking by ensuring proper contact and de-lofting, resulting in better launch angles and smash factors. We also discuss how newer golf clubs might offer more forgiveness, but ultimately, skill in hitting the ball correctly remains key to maximizing distance. By practicing with specialized training tools and focusing on proper technique, anyone can improve their golf game and hit the ball farther without relying solely on the latest club technology. (35:43) Mastering Short Game and Putting This chapter explores the intricacies of improving short game performance in golf, particularly focusing on the importance of mastering wedge shots and putting techniques. We discuss how honing wedge shots can lead to better performance with longer irons, emphasizing the same fundamental principles. The conversation highlights common pitfalls in putting, such as overactive wrists and poor grip, which often lead to missed shots. I share insights on calming the wrists and achieving a more stable stroke by adjusting the grip to fit natural arm positions, thus minimizing face twists. Additionally, we address the debate over whether putting strokes should be straight back and through or arcing, clarifying that it can be a combination of both, depending on individual technique and putter design. (45:14) Improving Pitching Leads to Successful 5-Iron This chapter shares an anecdote about the significant improvements in golf skills, particularly in pitching, following Jeff's guidance. I recount how, despite previous struggles with the 5-iron, applying Jeff's advice on improving wedge shots has translated into better performance across other clubs. I describe a moment of success when hitting a 168-yard shot onto the green with the 5-iron, a club that had remained unused all season. The experience highlights the broader impact of honing specific skills on overall gameplay.

Striking the ball properly is all about the the point of impact. It's nearly impossible to modify our swing mechanics on our own, but when you understand the club face position at contact with the ball, you will become a better ball striker. Martin Chuck, PGA, is also the inventor of the very popular Tour Striker, one of the best (based on listener feedback) and most effective training tools you can ever try. If you've ever seen the infomercial, you know the selling points. In this half hour interview with host Fred Greene, Martin discusses how most amateurs sweep, flip or pick at the ball instead of understanding how to get their hands in the correct position for quality impact. Practicing with a Tour Striker does that better than any tool I've ever tried. Martin also shatters some classic cliches we all repeat but don't understand, like “slow down your backswing”, “swing easy”, and “hit down to make it go up”. During Mike's course - Mike & Billy - discuss some of the oddest golf records around. The first hour interview is Tom Bertrand, Author of the The Secrets of Hogans Golf Swing. Review - The Secrets of Hogan's Swing- Tom Bertrand "Like finding the Rosetta Stone of golf... Tom Bertrand and Printer Bowler's The Secret of Hogan's Swing gives us a pipeline to the Master's wisdom that we thought had been lost forever. Secret is an instruction book like no other. It's the Hogan book Hogan himself never wrote, packed with the insights the great champion passed on to John Schlee (in a fascinating mentor-disciple relationship) and that Schlee in turn bequeathed to Tom Bertrand. We'll probably never have anything like this again. Hogan's gone, Schlee's gone, but thank goodness we've got Tom Bertrand to preserve the nuggets of pure golfing gold that the Master dug up "out of the dirt" of ten thousand practice tees and a thousand tournaments. The Secret of Hogan's Swing demonstrates that the vein of wisdom left by the peerless champion still yields up precious ore, not just in the technical aspects of the golf swing (Hogan's concepts are not only absolutely modern but even quite radical) but in his insights into the psychological and mental aspects of the game. His concept of the 'moving wall' is worth the price of the book alone. A must-read for every serious student of the game."—Steven Pressfield, author of The Legend of Bagger Vance"The Secret to Hogan’s Swing goes beyond pure instruction, offering insightful shot-making and strategy tips passed on to former tour pro John Schlee from Ben Hogan and interpreted wonderfully by Tom Bertrand and Printer Bowler."—John Andrisani, author of Tiger’s New Swing and Heaven Can Wait Visit www.tourstrikershop.com and use the promo code "GTR" for FREE shipping on the Tour Striker! At age 37 in 1986, McCord joined CBS Sports as a golf analyst, a capacity in which he still serves. He is noted for his outspokenness, a trait that has seen him barred from the CBS commentary team for The Masters. During the network's coverage of the 1995 Masters, he remarked that the 17th green was so fast that it seemed to be "bikini-waxed", and that "body bags" were located behind that green for players who missed their approach shots. Augusta National Golf Club, which organizes The Masters, used its influence with CBS to have him removed from The Masters commentary team. While McCord has continued to cover virtually all other golf events aired by CBS, he has yet to return to Augusta with the network. Aside from his CBS commentary duties, McCord also plays on the Champions Tour. After turning 50 in May 1998, he won his first event at the Toshiba Senior Classic in March 1999, and also won that year's Ingersoll-Rand Senior Tour Championship. Back in 1991, he won the Gateway Open on the Ben Hogan Tour, the second-tier tour in the U.S., now called the Nationwide Tour. McCord has also written two books, Just a Range Ball in a Box of Titleists and Golf for Dummies. In 1996, he appeared as himself in the Kevin Costner movie Tin Cup. He and Peter Kostis are partners in the Kostis/McCord Learning Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. He is also a co-announcer on the EA Sports' Tiger Woods PGA Tour series along with David Feherty. McCord credits golf pro Brad Britton for teaching him the ins and outs of the golf swing and especially the mental game.[citation needed] McCord lives with his wife, Diane, in Paradise Valley, Arizona and Edwards, Colorado. During Mike's Course - Mike and Billy discuss Billy's trip to Virginia CC and Billy's new workout regiment while on the golf course. Since focusing her skills as a landscape painter to recreate some of the world's most beautiful golf holes, Linda Hartough has become recognized as one of golf's leading artists. So extraordinary and realistic is her attention to detail that her oil paintings seem to come alive with a clarity that surpasses the camera. Her work has gained international fame. She is the only artist ever commissioned by the United States Golf Association and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews to do the annual, official paintings and prints for the U.S. Open and British Open Championships. She has painted prestigious golf courses from the U.S. to Scotland to Hong Kong. Her paintings are so admired that they have earned a place on two ABC Television Golf Specials on famous golf holes hosted by Jack Nicklaus. Her paintings are in the collections of such famous clubs as Augusta National, Pine Valley and Laurel Valley. Hartough originals are also included in the private collections of Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones and Rees Jones. Linda Hartough calls into the show - a confirmed artist since the age of six, Linda was raised in the picturesque country sides of Wilmington, Delaware and Louisville, Kentucky. Much of her early career was spent in Chicago where, after receiving her Fine Arts degree from the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1970, she made a living by selling her paintings locally. In 1980, Linda moved to South Carolina near Hilton Head where, she painted landscapes, portraits and horses. In 1984, Augusta National Golf Club commissioned her to paint the famed 13th hole, thus beginning her golf landscape career. After an enormous response to her work at the 1988 PGA Show in Orlando, Linda focused her career entirely on golf landscapes. Since that time, Linda's work has enjoyed unparalleled status in the golf world, while receiving international acclaim including Golf Digest's "Lifetime Achievement Award." Linda is privileged to be a Founding Trustee of the Academy of Golf Art, a professional society of golf artists established in 2004 to create an awareness and appreciation of golf art as a valuable segment of fine art. Linda's approach to capturing a great golf hole is by spending a week or more at each course, taking photographs at different times of the day to capture all possible lights. She then figures out what is important or memorable in each view of a hole and makes sure this is included in the painting. Her memory serves as a less objective image of the hole. The combination of the two provides the unique view found in each of her paintings. "I really enjoy painting golf landscape. It is some of the most beautiful and varied landscape in the world combined with a deep, historical sense of tradition that transcends time. The painting is a success when both elements emerge."Visit www.tourstrikershop.com and use the promo code "GTR" for FREE shipping on the Tour Striker! Mike & Billy discuss during Mike's Course their take on Tiger Wood's statement/apology to the media. Mike Fletcher, President of Sunice, a golf apparel firm known for its amazing technical outerwear—rain pants with a built-in chamois to clean clubs; a "pro-trim" fabric that eliminates belly bulge during the swing—is gearing up to make a splash in the American market. Until recently, Sunice had been part of the TaylorMade-adidas golf juggernaught, having been acquired in the deal that brought Ashworth Golf to TaylorMade in October 2008. That agreement called for Ashworth to market the Canadian-based Sunice's products in the U.S. But perhaps the Sunice designs got lost in the shuffle. This month the company announced it had pulled out of the deal and began hiring its own team of U.S.-based executives. Howie Ellis, the widely respected former director of apparel sales at Callaway Golf, will be named executive vice president of Sunice Golf USA. He will be based in Boston. "We essentially exercised an option to repurchase our trademark," said Mark Fletcher, the president of Fletcher Leisure group, the Montreal company that owns Sunice. "We wanted to focus on the American market more directly." "We're very excited about our entire 2010 Sunice Outerwear Collection, which features more technological advancements than any product line in our history," said Sunice President Mark Fletcher. "Our Hurricane Collection leads the way, along with our Tornado Collection and Silver Collection, and our Ultimate Jacket V2 is destined to be a huge success because of its innovation and style."
