Striking the ball properly is all about the the point of impact. It's nearly impossible to modify our swing mechanics on our own, but when you understand the club face position at contact with the ball, you will become a better ball striker. Martin Chuck, PGA, is also the inventor of the very popular Tour Striker, one of the best (based on listener feedback) and most effective training tools you can ever try. If you've ever seen the infomercial, you know the selling points. In this half hour interview with host Fred Greene, Martin discusses how most amateurs sweep, flip or pick at the ball instead of understanding how to get their hands in the correct position for quality impact. Practicing with a Tour Striker does that better than any tool I've ever tried. Martin also shatters some classic cliches we all repeat but don't understand, like “slow down your backswing”, “swing easy”, and “hit down to make it go up”. This is our final entry into our Tony Manzoni "Lost Fundamental" series, probably the most impactful teacher, based on listener feedback, that we've ever featured in the many years of doing game improvement interviews on the Golf Smarter podcast. Tony's ability to make his students great ball strikers wasn't his only focus. In this episode we also discuss the mental and emotional aspects of the game that can negatively impact scoring. After a long battle, Tony finally succumbed to cancer and passed away in 2018. I am so honored to have the ability to share my many conversations over 9 years to keep his warmth, humor, stories, teaching methods, and legacy alive. Tony's book “The Lost Fundamental: One Simple Move. Better Golf Forever.” is available once again in either paperback or kindle formats. Find it at https://www.amazon.com/Lost-Fundamental-Simple-Better-Forever-ebook/dp/B07MZFSPBW/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=tony+manzoni&qid=1583280371&sr=8-1.The Lost Fundamental video is also available online! If you're interested, please send your request to host Fred Greene at golfsmarterpodcast@gmail.com.After Tony passed in 2018, we created a Tony Manzoni Memorial Golf Smarter Fund to benefit the First Tee of Coachella Valley, home to Tony's lesson center and the Men's Golf Team he coached for decades at College of the Desert in Southern California. Your tax deductible contributions are greatly appreciated. Find out more about the fund and everything we have gathered about Tony at https://GolfSmarter.com/tony .
Even though Tony Manzoni had tremendous success coaching the Men's golf program at College of the Desert, he didn't focus on Men's golf only. Tony had tremendous respect for the women's game and believed that amateur golfers at all skill levels could learn a lot from watching the LPGA Tour. He also spent a lot of time working with children who were exceptional golfers and had a future in the professional game. At one point in this episode, he mentions sharing videos of their swings. Unfortunately, I can't find or share them. But it's that work with young people that was behind our motivation to create a tax deductible fund at the First Tee of Coachella Valley, home of College of the Desert, in his memory. Over the next 9 episodes of GOlf SMarter Mulligans, we're going to be featuring some of our many conversations with Tony Manzoni. Tony was an amazing golf instructor who passed away in 2018. We first met him in 2009, and in the dozen or so times he was on the podcast with us, emails flooded in with more positive feedback than any other teacher featured. If you're a new to Golf Smarter or didn't play at College of the Dessert anytime since the 1980s, you've probably never heard of Tony because we were the only media outlet to pay attention to him. This is the fourth year we're replaying some of these episodes and I still get emails reporting on how well you connected and improved using Tony's teaching methods.Tony's book, The Lost Fundamental, One Simple Move, Better Golf Forever, which was out of print when he passed away, is once again available on Amazon including Kindle format. Tony's video of the same name was also out of circulation, but can now be seen online. If you'd like to gain access please write to me directly via email GolfSmarterPodcast@Gmail.com or clicking on the Hey Fred button at golfsmarter.com. Lastly, after he passed, we created a Tony Manzoni Memorial Golf Smarter Fund to benefit the First Tee of Coachella Valley. Your tax deductible contributions are greatly appreciated.
