My guest for this episode is Derek Ingram. Derek is the Head Coach for Golf Canadas National Men's amateur and Pro teams. Independent of that he is also the coach to Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith and many other elite players and a published author. Although Derek's job takes on the road the majority of the year his role within Golf Canada and his experience of the elite amateur game gives him a unique global perspective on the game of golf from all levels. For this episode we chat about helping club golfers improve and what are some of the stumbling blocks, we discuss winter climate challenges and indoor golf training. We chat about the grip and how its level of importance is not really reflected in the direction of online information… and lastly Derek suggests a few strategies that can help you with your on-course process, direct form his book “Sports Pysch for golf” In the coaching section we chat about Derek's influence to this point on technique and coaching, how he uses tech like 3D to help his understanding of how his players perform their best. We discuss the work he is currently doing with Corey and Taylor and some putting content, and lastly we chat about his current project, Tour Habits, which he co founded alongside Tristian Mullaly. I always enjoy chatting to experienced and educated coaches and sometimes you come across the trifecta of experienced, educated but still so hungry to learn and improve. Not only does Derek Ingram tick all those boxes with ease but he is also brings with it a sense of appreciation and joy which if we are all honest, this game can sometimes take from us.. My guest for this episode is Alex Clapp. Alex is one of the premier golf coaches in Europe and is currently based at Enmore Park golf club in the South of England. As well as helping many club golfers achieve their goals Alex also works with many regional and mini tour players as well as DP world tour golfers. At a time when the online coaching business is growing Alex is one of the most sought-after pros on the Skillest Platform and works with golfers all over the world. In this episode Alex distills some fantastic advice for the club golfer ranging from current misconceptions he sees on the lesson tee and online, to what process or methods might be the best for you assessing your own game. He also gives us some nice drills and tasks for those slicers out there. For the coaching section Alex discusses his road of influence and how he arrived at his current philosophy and preferences, we even discuss how bias can be a good thing. We show some of Alex's posts online when working with his players and he guides us through what they were working on and why and lastly, we get in to what he is looking forward to in the future both from a tech perspective and a career development view point. I say this in the episode but Alex is one of the Instagram accounts I really enjoy following because he demonstrates his perspective and reasoning so well. From afar I felt he was one of the coaches doing it the correct way as in he wants to get it right not be right and after this chat, I feel he is exactly that. An excellent golf technician, a fantastic conveyor of information and an incredibly hard worker… Support the show
Our guest for this episode is Dr. Mark Bull who is one of the premier bio mechanists working in the game today. He has worked with and helped thousand of golfers from all levels, club golfers to major winners and as far as I am aware there are very few who know more about how the body works in and out of a golf swing. For this episode we explore the influences around movement and how understanding your own can be a big key in helping improve your performance. We chat about related movements in the golf swing and some of the discoveries Dr.Bull has been working on in 2024 and he also brings us through some of the commonalities that the best movers in the world have. For the coaching section Dr.Bull provides some guidelines for those approaching or working with 3D for the first time, we chat about his coaching discoveries this year and how they are based more perhaps of human interaction and learning as opposed to technical aspects. We have a look at the Bull3D system and look at some 3D tracings of movements and lastly Mark discusses his membership site and how the catalogue of the site represents his view on important aspects to performance. Mark is without a doubt one of the smartest people in golf. You will gain more information by simply being around him. His level of research, experience, time and dedication is elite and amongst the best in the world. If you ask any coach, player or student that has worked with Mark they will tell you that is level of understanding of the golf swing is only matched by his level of commitment to understand the player in front of him. A man who is expert in seeing movement but committed to knowing what makes it work…. so I hope you all enjoy this Podcast. Support the show
Jason is back for part 2 of our recent sit down and this time he gets in to his players patterns for short game and full swing and gives us a glimpse into how a tour coach works with a player to achieve the players goals. Support the show
My guest today is Jason Sutton, Director of Instruction at Colleton River in Bluffton, South Carolina. Jason is one of the top coaches in the game, working with elite amateurs, college players, and professionals across many different tours. A Golf Digest Top 100 coach and the recent recipient of the PGA Carolinas Section's Top Golf Professional award, Jason's expertise speaks for itself. This episode is packed with practical insights. Jason starts with a detailed discussion on putting, providing actionable advice for club golfers to not just improve their strokes, but to create a focus on development of other putting skills like green reading and speed judgement. We also explore how students can maximize lessons by asking the right questions and fostering a collaborative learning environment. From there, Jason shares his philosophy on chipping, analyzes the short games of two of his tour players, and walks us through their full-swing actions—explaining not only what they worked on but also what he intentionally left unchanged. It becomes very evident that his clear focus is on helping players achieve their ball-flight goals and not changing aesthetics for self promotion. He relies on fusing his vast knowledge and experience while actively listening to his players to create their idea of success. Jason is not only one of my closest friends but also a mentor to me and many others in the golf world. His willingness to use his journey, including both triumphs and missteps, while giving feedback and advice is what makes him not only a great friend to many but a mentor aswell. His dedication to teaching and mentoring, paired with his growth mindset, inspires both his students and fellow coaches. His work on the Golf Guru Podcast has been a learning resource for countless people, including me.Jim Rohn once said “Your level of success will seldom exceed your level of personal development” and I can think of no finer example of that in our game than Jason. He is a man dedicated to his craft, who gives far more than he receives and who has earned the respect of the golf coaching world while doing it. If what Jim says is true then I have no doubt that Jason will become a familiar name to many more in the years to come. Support the show
My guest for this episode is Terry Rowles who is currently based at Hudson National Golf Club in New York. As well as been a Golf Digest top 50 teacher he has worked with many notable players, major winners, former world # 1's, more than 50 PGA Tour, LPGA, DP World Tour and other tour players. Terry has worked alongside PHD's Phil Cheetham and Sasho Mckenzie on his research into measuring and defining the grip in golf and has also alongside his colleague Mike Adams developed their own system for measuring players, both from a static and dynamic perspective, that can help determine what the best is the best way for you to swing the club for optimal results. On top of all of this Terry has also been one of the leading coaches working with Sportsbox as an advisor in bringing to the Golf Markert the first commercial mobile 3d app for golfers…. I normally at this stage give some highlights on what we discussed but for this podcast I am going to refrain from that and just let Terry talk… this is an amazing insight into growth mindset individual from a golf and coaching perspective. It is an incredibly well versed, experienced and dedicated individual giving his honest and detailed perspective on grip, movement, 3D and much more… we do get into the weed at certain points but that is sometimes where the gold I buried.Flightscope Link below and use SMGFLIGHThttps://flightscopemevo.com/collections/all?sca_ref=6921791.i6b9Nkax1iyNRSupport the show
Part 2 of the Podcast with Sean Kennedy. In part two we move into the world of coaching discussing Sean's process and thoughts on short game, his involvement in a new format for coach education seminars and his thoughts on technology and its place in current coaching. Support the Show.
My guest for this episode is Sean Kennedy. Sean is the Director of Instruction at the Cliffs Community in the Carolina mountains, one of the most picturesque areas in the US and he works with all levels of players from club golfers to elite players. During this podcast we get to chat about many things in golf and we look to help the club golfer with narrowing the gap between doing and knowing. We get to discuss some of Seans favourite drills and tasks for players as well as his passion for on course and playing sessions. In the coaching segment, we delve into Sean's inspirations, address queries from the Podcast community, and explore whether his instruction focuses on technical adjustments or skill enhancement. We also touch upon topics such as short game strategies and challenging moments. Finally, we talk about Sean's collaboration with other like minded coaches in organizing an annual two-day seminar offering advanced education for any golf teacher wanting to enhance their knowledge. For some of you, this may be your first introduction to Sean. I like to delve into the coaching world when I have the opportunity, meeting new people during my travels to learn from them in various ways. Sometimes, I feel compelled when getting to know individuals who may not be as well-known to highlight their work and skill. While you may not hold Sean's words in as high regard as those of Butch Harmon or Mark Blackburn, underestimating them would be a missed opportunity. Sean is one of the most genuine, intelligent, respectful, and exceptional coaches I've ever encountered. He looks at the human and the golf swing as an ever-interacting system and one which must be treated as such…it would be easy to look at the golf swing as simply numbers on a screen but Sean has uncanny knack for looking past those and bringing out the skills in the person as opposed to bringing the skills to the person… Ladies and Gentleman Support the Show.
A frank and honest conversation with one of the smartest techincal coaches in golf but also one who is at the forefront to change in the Golf Coaching industry. Hugh Marr has had success at all levels of the Golf Coaching world but now has turned his attention to helping other coaches improve the quality of the lessons we are giving to you the club golfer. This Episode is a great insight into the perspective of someone who genuinely wants you to improve your game and not through gimmicks or quick fixes but through accurate, evidence based assessments and recommendations. Hugh disucsses some of the common misconceptions he encounters for the club player as well as discussing some beneficial drills or tasks you can do that will actually improve the only important things in your golf game and that is impact. For the coaching side of the episode we discuss the reason for Hugh now focusing on helping other coaches, the reception and reaction he has got to this point and then we delve into his own process and structure for coaching. We also discuss how he helps other coaches out there with his education website and his work with other elite instructors like Andreas Kali and Mark Bull,Sit back and enjoy this is an episode full of just simply good content.Support the show
My guest for this episode is Andrew Rice. Andrew is the Director of Instruction at The Club at Savannah Harbor, located at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa. In 2019, Andrew was named one of Golf Digest's 50 Top Teachers in America and #1 in Georgia. He has written books, appeared on numerous television productions and runs one of the most successful 3 day golf schools in North AmericaThis episode is absolutely bursting at the seems with information and content. We discuss Andrews path to where he is today, his experience with club players perceptions and understandings, and how impact has perhaps become the forgotten aspect of online swing content and as he wrote a book on it that section gets pretty good. We chat a little about the proposed roll back of the ball and then we move into the coaching section… IN the coaching section Andrew delves into his coaching influences through the years, his explorations into golf swing theory and technique alongside the team at Ping Golf, and the process he uses when exploring such material as the wedge game or wind effect etc….We chat about his work with other coaches on content projects and we discuss Coach Camp, the Golf Coaching event which he runs every year bringing coaches form around the globe together to learn and improve. Lastly Andrew highlights some of the lessons he has learned form running his golf school and distils some advice for those starting or indeed looking to improve their own school.. I have been aware of Andrew for nearly 5 years now in the golf coaching realm but never really got to spend too much time with him personally. I enjoyed his content from afar and when I started to try to produce my own content and my own explorations into the why's and how's of the golf swing, my respect for what he did and how he did it grew. There are the coaches out there who wait for the information to be distributed or discovered and then they learn or study it after it has been filtered through opinions and perspectives. There is nothing wrong with this however and it does produce a level of learning and knowledge. What appears to me about Andrew is he is not happy with that level nor the wait and its not because he wants to be the first or the smartest its because he truly loves the game like we all do and he wants to make sure we are right and he knows to truly truly help golfers our information has to be right…. It is not enough to know the information you must own the information…..As Andrew refers to many times in this Podcast he sees himself as a constant learner, a constant evolver and a recognizer that the more specifics he knows about the golf swing the more he realizes the broad spectrum there is for greatness..Support the show
My guest for this episode is Mike Carroll whose website/app Fit For Golf has become one of the most prominent golf fitness apps in the industry over the last few years. Mike who is originally from Ireland but now calls California home has created an amazing resource where golfers of all levels both golfing and fitness wise can get custom designed workouts to help you not only in the golf swing but also improve your every day fitness levels which we will gladly take as a bonus. Our first question in the POD looks at perspectives and with Mikes expertise in fitness this was a fun one to start. We move on to discuss where perhaps the club golfer can improve in relation to golf specific conditioning. To help you in choosing the right fitness professional for you we discuss some traits or skills you might want to take into account when making that choice. Moving into the coach's section and we start with Mike perspective on the potential depth of knowledge that a golf coach can know or indeed should know when it comes to fitness and movement to his level.. We chat about Mikes pursuit of more speed in his own game and the learning path that has taken him down in terms of marrying physical capabilities to golf technique, forces and the like. Lastly Mike gives his views on coaching education and where to look to improve your knowledge as a golf coach and perhaps looking more outside the industry to gain that extra knowledge. I make no bones about it I am always immensely proud to have fellow Irish professionals on the show and especially ones who have created a successful career or platform. At the start of this Pod Mike gives us all an insight into his journey to get to where he is now both geographically and business wise and towards the end he gives us a glimpse into the future of the fitforgolf platform. When you hear the story you get a sense of how hard he has worked but what you wont really hear is how much time Mike has dedicated to learning the golf swing side of this equation. He already had the fitness knowledge but his pursuit of learning from golf experts like Sasho MacKenzie, Dana Dahlquist and many more is what impresses me the most. The best professionals in this sport are the ones who take their expertise in one field and apply it to achieve greatness in others. Ladies and Gentleman Support the show
My guest for this episode is Doug Lawrie. Doug is one of the premier Junior golf coaches in the country In recent seasons he has won the PGA of Ontario Coach of the year in 2022 as well as his players receiving numerous accolades season upon season with many now pursuing successful college scholarships in the states. In this podcast we start with some Junior perceptions which Doug sees when working with players. We discuss some of the tendencies of the club players in working on their own games and we chat the fast approaching winter season here in Canada and what are some drills and tips they can work on. In the coach section we look at the areas Doug has developed from an education perspective over the last few year including speed and other areas and what peaks his interest moving forward. We discuss some of the challenges that we might face when coaching junior players and the teaming up with other coaches to not only help your players but also your own knowledge in the long term. We also look at the process of assisting your players when they graduate to college or university and how you can help them in the best possible way from both a lifestyle and a game perspective. There are many coaches that I encounter either through my education or indeed with this podcast and it is always interesting to see their skills and their passions and how they discuss both. I think when I look at Junior coaching it takes something else to be successful. Yes, you need to care about your players, well we all do that and yes you want performance or results at the end of the day but I believe when it comes to the best coaches there is an investment beyond those measurements. There is an unquantifiable commitment to the education and the development of the young person that has been intrusted to you. That education and development, like the young person themselves, is always ever changing and challenging but that is the role. I think Doug Lawrie not only accepts that role as part of his profession but is welcoming of the opportunity to not only help create great golfers but to also be part of creating great humans. My guest for this episode is Michael Kennelly who is a young PGA qualified Golf Coach from Ireland. Now he may not be a name that you are familiar with but he is rapidly growing an impressive list of players many of which compete at the highest level of amateur competition in Ireland and some of whom currently are competing in D1 and D2 division college golf. For this Podcast we started with our perceptions question and Michael discusses two areas for us, firstly the short game and some great ideas on shot selection and practice and then into the long game. We move onto some advice Michael has for both elite and club players in preparing for golf in the colder winter climate, for those who still play. We also discuss some practice and learning concepts and how player can possibly look to create some more long-term changes in their swing.Into the coaching section and we first chat mentors and influences and the Journey Michael has taken so far in his learning process. We move nicely into his thoughts on golf swing and movement and the influence of, how he is as a person on his coaching strategies. We discuss some of the biggest learning points to date which takes into his walker cup coaching experience and lastly what skills or learning he is looking to develop as we move into 2024. My guest for this episode is Jeff Smith. Jeff is one of the top coaches in world golf having worked with numerous PGA tour winners and an abundant amount of talented young players. Jeff is also one of the hardest working coaches out there spending nearly 30 weeks a year actually out on tour and it was from this weeks, the RSM classic in sea island Georgia, that Jeff Joined us. We opened with a question on perceptions and understandings and Jeff's answer creates a lovely insight into the club golfers learning and swing change process. We discuss the how been aware of our physical abilities in so important when looking at possible swing or technique changes. We highlight Jeff's work with Sports box AI, one of many new 3D apps available to all players and how he feels it can help golfers to learn through an improved feedback loop. For the coaches we chat about the ability to translate all your knowledge base and PHD level discovery into simple terms for our player. Jeff discusses his work with Scott Piercy and the approach he takes to working with elite players. We move on to Jeff's real passion of working with junior and Collegiate golfers and some of the challenges that coach's may face having players in the collegiate system and what is the most important aspect of your role at that point. There is a quote attributed to Albert Einstein that reads “if you cant explain it simply, you simply don't understand it” . In my opinion Jeff Smith is a master at this skill. For the most part elite coaches can recognize the same issues or movements that we would like to adapt but that skill, to tell a player something, they heard a hundred times before, but in a way they understand it fir the first time, that I believe is the true genius of Jeff Smith. Jeff was one of the first coaches I message to ask if I could spend time shadowing them, ironically enough it was through a podcast on my good friend Jason Suttons show where Jeff said hey if you want come watch just reach out and so I did… I didn't know a lot back then but jeff was so welcoming for the whole day and so patient with this Irish Lad that was in way over his head. I will never forget that experience and the reason I tell that story is there are, like all professions, those who feel they are above giving back or paying back and above helping others climb the same mountain upon which they too once looked up at……….. I really believe that Jeff is the complete opposite and genuinely cares about not only about the progression of his players but also any coach that wants to learn….. As he mentions in this pod he wants to pay it forward and I think most would agree that debt is paid and then some…Support the show
My guest for this episode is Ryan Mouque. Ryan is one of the up-and-coming golf coaches in world golf. Originally from New Zealand but now located in Australia Ryan has been establishing himself as one of the top coaches in online coaching through the skillest app platform while working with the full spectrum of players from the weekend golfer all the way through to the tour professional. In this episode We cover Ryan's experience on the club golfers potential misunderstandings, how to navigate all the available content, some goals to take away from coaching sessions and much more. In the coaches' section we discuss Ryan's thoughts on the technical aspects of the swing so how he sees movement and golf swing from a hierarchal perspective. We chat about his coaching style evolution and how it was influenced by now being predominantly online with his coaching. Ryan brings us through some of the main lessons he learned during his educational trip to the states last year where he got to spend some time with some of the best coaches in the world and lastly some advice for those coaches looking to improve their skills and craft. In the modern landscape of todays communication, it can be very easy to become a sharer or transporter of information, to simply repeat what you have seen or heard and pass this off as a knowledge. In a way it is knowledge but surface level at best. Ryan Mouque is one of the coaches who is the complete opposite. From his social offering there is information similar to others but there is a dept and knowledge there that can only be learned, not by watching tik tok and repeating, but by reading, listening, travelling and mostly by working your ass off. Ryan is one of the coaches who is not happy to be surface aware and that's the key to the success of this man. From his website, socials, online teachings each one of these aspects exudes depth, professionalism and knowledge and add to that the hunger and eagerness to be one of the worlds best well you will see why he is fastly becoming one of the best new coaches on the golf scene. My guest for this episode is Martin Chuck. Martin is one of the most respected golf teachers in world golf and has worked with numerous elites and tour players including Mike Weir, Darren Clarke and Nick Taylor to name a few. As well as working with these elite players Martin operates the Tour Striker Golf School which is located at the Raven Golf Club in Phoenix Arizona and is one of the most successful golf school in North America. . The name Tour Striker might ring a bell with a few of you as that brand is synonymous with some of the best golf training aids on the market. Along with his wife Stacey, Martin uses his interactions with the every day player to bring to life objects and training aids that we can all use to improve our games and im sure at some stage we have all encountered on his designs on the lesson tee. In this podcast we open the discussion on club players by talking about how you hold the club and Martin highlights the reasons he is so adamant on a good gripWe chat some other low hanging fruit for the club player by talking about set up and routine and how we can learn about this from the GOAT Tiger Woods.Martin gives some advice on how he likes to set up a practice session to get the most out of your time including a ten-minute trickery section and the lastly, we discuss distance and the one thing he sees that holds players back from creating more distance potential. For the coaches we discuss some of the difference Martin sees when working with elite players versus perhaps the weekend golfer,We chat about his mentors in golf including George Knudson and Moe Norman and how he uses the information learned in the right way to help his players.Lastly, we discuss his communication style and how he has worked to develop it and continues to assist his coaching team in learning those same skills…Support the show
My guest for this episode is the Tour Player Greg Chalmers. Greg is a longtime player on many tours across the globe including PGA tour, Korn Ferry Tour and the Australasian Tour. Having won on the PGA tour and won his home open, the Australian PGA , twice he is no stranger to success. As usual we start with some advice for the club golfer and there is some quality perspectives in here from Greg. We talk about Greg's upcoming bid for Champions Tour golf and how he is staying fit in body to help get ready for the challenge and how looking at the fitness side of things might be a necessity for not even to change your swing inn the future but even for it to remain the same. We discuss Greg's view on the common things holding club golfers back from improving their games and a look at the traits he sees in the great putters that maybe we could look to implement. Greg make some great points on practicing and using your time in a more efficient manner and then illustrates some great examples and ideas for that player who perhaps gets a bit anxious on the course to relax and remove some of that anxiety.Moving on to the coaches' section we chat about Greg's playing experience and how he views his playing history as an advantage or a disadvantage as he delves into the coaching realm,We talk about some of his own experiences moving into the coaching world like where he has encountered some challenges and discuss how he tries to help players the most by looking for the area that will have the most benefit with change, as opposed to that aesthetic change. The last subject we discuss in this podcast is probably the most important one. Some years ago, Greg and Nicole's son Max was diagnosed with Autism. After realizing how expensive all of the treatments were for their son, they knew many families wouldn't be able to afford them. They wanted to do their part to help and had a vision for a charity that would raise funds for other families going through the process, create an outreach for parents to get advice, help or even just to chat and help the children going through the same journey as Max. We all are tested in life by various challenges but those who encounter challenges and difficulties and then use that experience to embrace helping others is truly special…….. This podcast, chat, interview was one of the most enjoyable to date as Greg is truly one of the nicest people I have encountered. It's a free-flowing honest chat with an incredibly talented golfer and an equally humble human…. If you root for one player on the champions tour this season .. My guest for this episode is Sean Foley. Sean is widely recognized as one of the premier golf coaches in world golf having worked alongside some of the smartest professionals in the golf world and then using those experiences while helping some of the worlds best players to realise their own existing potential. In this episode we start by chatting about how Sean would best describe what it is that he does and indeed whether the path to get there has been a conscious one of more born from merely the ever-changing experiences of life and indeed the challenges and the failures that it provides us all. We discuss his perspective on how the club golfer can improve their practice or learning experiences and leading on from that we chat about the new learning aid that he has created with his fellow Canadian golf coach David Woods. With the mention of the Pro Sendr learning aid we get a chance to delve into some technical discussion on how the device works and indeed some discussion on the role of that trail arm and wrist in golf swing. We talk about breathing and its discussion in golf. For the coaching section we discuss his view on protecting players against his preferences in sessions and what might be a more player beneficial approach and Sean gives some advice to coaches out there in creating relationships with experts in certain fields to really improve or hone your craft. When starting to edit this podcast I felt this was one of my poorer hosting displays. I have known about Sean for nearly 4 years now and gotten to known him for the last two of those. Some of the most poignant, significant career developing moments in my last 4 years have been learnings from Sean either in person, through messages or from a post or podcast etc. My want for this podcast was to try and give you all a similar experience and I felt I really didn't ask the right questions to create that learning experience for you all. Aside from that I think what comes across to me is how comfortable Sean is in who he is. He is without doubt one of the smartest people in golf, in terms of knowledge and the knowledge to keep learning from others, yet there never seems to exist a need to advertise that fact. I said at the start of this Podcast that his influence affected me as a person more than a golf coach and the more I delve into the hierarchy of golf coaching, the more I realise they are equally important to be successful in this field. I have spent more than four years learning from Sean about love, respect and been a good human all the while in the background waiting for the day to learn more about his swing preferences, his thoughts on downswing etc. On closer reflection perhaps my beliefs in what I needed to learn from him was not aligned with how he felt he could best help. Sean has always insisted you have to go through it to get to it so I really do hope as you all go through this podcast you do get something out of it that helps you as a golfer, coach and person.
My guests for this episode are Andy Matthews and Brian Stolman. Boht Andy and Brian work for a company out of Michigan called Neuropeak Pro, Andy is Director of golf performance for Neurpoeak Pro and Brian Stolman is a Peak performance coach. Now Neuropeak Pro is a company that has been helping people to improve their lives through helping them optimize their brain performance and breathing for quite some time. The reason that we have them on our podcast is many of those same people are athletes playing in some of the best leagues in world sport including NFL. MLB , NHL and of course for our purpose today on Professional Golf Tours around the world. Two clients that might be familiar in the golf world would be Jordan Spieth and Bryson Dechambeau. The exact reason for having Andy and Brian on the show was to discuss breathing… now yes we all breathe and we all know that its pretty much an essential but the question is how much do we really know about it. Are we breathing the right way for example mouth versus nose breathing. Does how we breathe affect our performance? Should we be breathing slower when under pressure? What's this fight or flight response everyone talks about?? We discuss how athletes in general need to be looking at how they breathe irrelevant of what sport we are really participating in. We get into some terms that you might have heard around breathing discussions including Precision breathing training, Heart rate Variability or HRV and how they might be affecting you as a golfer. If you are that arrive at the course nervous player who just hopes to hit it well to relax Andy creates some nice ideas about how you can use breathing in your warm ups for your round or even before you get to the courseWe then chat about the Ntel belt that Neuropeak Pro use in assessing clients breathing. Its is the first of its kind real time precision breathing device which shows heart rate data and real time respiration data as you train. We then move on to the coaches section of our Podcast. So if you are a coach who has been looking at breathing training for your players or even if you have not we chat about how a coach might recognise the need in a player to look at their breathing patterns and how to introduce it to your players. We discuss the recent creation of the Neuropeak Pro coach certification. So what does the certification entail and how we can use this for our own education as coaches and indeed what the plans are for enhancing this education for those who perhaps want to deeper dive. If you are interested in performing better this will be a really interesting soft introduction to breathing viewed from a scientific and sports perspective. My guest for this episode is Robbie King. Robbie is a PGA Qualified Teaching Professional at one of Scotland's leading golf resorts, The Carrick Golf Club on Loch Lomond and is quickly becoming one of the premier young golf coaches. Robbie's clients range from newcomers to the game all the way through to Touring professionals so his skills and ability in dealing with issues of all levels is quite extensive. In this pod we start by discussing some of the myths Robbie has encountered during his career in coaching to date, we discuss his process of assessing golf swings and how he might suggest the club golfer at home assesses their own action. We chat a bit about improvement in your own game and perhaps starting to remove the sole gaze on technical aspects and focusing more on playing the game so how we learn or practice and some course management strategies. IN the coaches section of the Pod we talk about Robbie's own journey to career development, so what was the incentive to travel to events like Doctors 4 in Virginia , what or whom has been his biggest influence to date in that journey and what are some of the challenges that he has faced as he sought out information from different sources. We chat about Robbie's involvement in skill development and on course learning and finally his goals for the future while on this educational journey. The hidden sub conscious qualification to be on this podcast has been that I personally have been impressed with your information and feel it would be of benefit for the everyday golfer or other coaches to know. That is in a nut shell is life experience as we can only learn from what we experience however what struck me first when contemplating asking Robbie to be on the show was I knew quite little about what he teaches, what his swing philosophy or his coaching experiences. All I really knew was he had travelled over 3,500 miles from Glasgow to Virginia to spend 3 days learning information to help his players and that really was enough.. I realised very quickly when starting to chat and in this podcast how special, dedicated and talented this young coach is right now and more importantly how bright the future is for him. If you are not following along on his journey I suggest you do. I couldn't think of anyone more perfect to launch my new series of “ The New Breed” ..Ladies and Gentleman Robbie King

Alright so welcome to a special edition so to speak of the podcast….. today we are going to be talking equipment and more specifically we are talking equipment with the company that produces the number 1 ball in golf but also has one of the most talked about driver releases in 2023 with the TSR model… Titleist golf balls and golf clubs have long been synonymous with elite performance in golf but I wanted to get more detailed info on why they perform so well, what makes the clubs so popular amongst elite players and what makes the ball #1 ball in golf.. So, I reached out to the team at Titleist Canada and am we set up a podcast with Ryan and Rishi from Titleist…Ryan is the golf club product and marketing manager and rishi is head of ball fitting and player performance.. So we start first with rishi and a little of the history of Titleist and what led to their first ball been produced nearly 80 years ago, we chat why they have the number 1 ball in golf so the process of ball development and quality checks. We discuss their expansive ball fitting process both online and in person and the qualities you perhaps should be focusing on more in your golf ball performance. We then give Ryan the platform to talk a little on the development, both reasoning and technical of the TS line and the arrival in 2023 of the TSR model. We discuss club fitting and why it is so important to get the right Titleist club in your hands to maximise performance and we also briefly chat about the short mini series that Titleist have produced called “We go farther “ which pulls the curtain back in a very honest look at the production of the TS Line We are all trying to get a one up or that slight improvement in our games but sometimes we bypass the most important aspects of ball and club. This is a perspective of that process by the team that live and breathe golf development to make sure when you do tee up a Titleist or put a TSR on a tee deck that the equipment you have is of the utmost quality…
My guest for this episode is Steve Astle. Steve is a Top 50 coach from the UK with over 25 years coaching experience and has worked with all level of players from beginners right the way through to tour professionals. He is currently the England girls under 18's coach as well as a member of the PGA great britian and Ireland coaching team. As well as excelling in the world of coaching Steve is also an industry leader in his golf coaching business where he works with and assists other coaches in their day to day business operations from marketing and advertising, to goal setting based on career aspirations. To start this pod we draw on Steve's immense teaching experience to chat some myths he sees in the golf industry. We chat a little about social media and how the perspective of which you look at it can change the evaluation of good or bad influence. We discuss his role with the U 18 England girls team and what perhaps we can draw on as adults from how these young stars of the future go about learning and improving at such a rate. Lastly for the club player we discuss the ever-widening selection of golf coaches due to technology and what criteria might help you select the right coach to help your game. When we move into the coaches' section, we get to chat steve's current role as a golf coach business consultant. Here he talks about some of the bigger mistakes he sees coaches make in their everyday business and as well as some of the qualities he sees in the very successful individuals. He gives us some intro steps to maybe assessing your own coaching business and a look at how exactly he goes about helping coaches create more visibility and in turn more revenue.
My guest for this episode is Jonah Oliver. Jonah may be unfamiliar to some of you but is one of the leading sports psychologists in Australia. He has worked with a multitude of elite performers and sports stars from Australian Football League, Formula 1, Soccer and Tennis…. Jonah's golf connection comes from his work with current British open champion Cam Smith. In this podcast we start by Jonah debunking some of his favourite myths that exist around golf performance. We chat about technology and the great advantages that it provides for coaches and players but perhaps the pathway that it provides lessens the learning for the student and indeed the coach. We discuss psychological flexibility which as a broad viewpoint challenges you to remain true to your beliefs as a player even when the environment will challenge you to act differently. For the coaches we begin the section by chatting about some of the roadblocks that we may be unintentionally placing on or in front of our players. We also look at how coaches can educate themselves more on the skills and the workings of Jonah's expertise to at least be able to identify the issues in your golfers. Lastly, we discuss Cam and the strengths that he has brought to their relationship. What makes him one of the best players in the world and what qualities he possesses that will ensure he remains one of the worlds best players for a long time. If most of us are been honest we would concur that if offered some Faustian type contract for a perfect golf swing tomorrow we might very well sign it, the chase to create the unaffectable golf swing, the one that remains ambivalent to feelings or emotions is an ever growing one and that is not to say that the journey is not fun it sure is however when we truly look at what influences our results the most we must concede two factors…Firstly golf is an inconsistent sport on an ever changing environment and secondly how our brain works influences it greatly. Jonah Oliver has dedicated his life to studying human performance and when you listen to this podcast you will feel he is not challenging you to flex your right temporal lobe more or alter your limbic system, he is encouraging you to find yourself, your performance and to remain trusting of that…….one of Jonah's mantras is he helps people focus on the right things at the right time…. I am hoping the information you find in this podcast will either encapsulate that or lead you to it.
My guest for this episode is Mike Kay. Mike is a PT by trade and is fast becoming one of the foremost experts on movement in professional sport as well as becoming one of the foremost choice for PGA Tour Professionals to work with. Mike works with professional athletes across a number of sports ranging from MLB, NBA and of course the PGA tour so is in a very good position to pass along his knowledge of movement and what he looks for when working with the best athletes in the world. In this episode we start with some club golfers help with the idea of movement. We look at the perspective of you get what you train for so creating as much exposure to golf movement as possible to offset some of our sedimentary lifestyles. We chat about the path and movement of energy through the body in a golf swing and the possible interruptions that can lead to inefficient movement and some potential power leaks and lastly some talk on breathing and perhaps some tasks you can do with breathing and swinging to encourage more timing in the golf swing. For the coaches we go a little deeper. we chat about the commonly held belief of the close correlation of baseball movement to golf swings, the connection of body movement and segments in a reflective term to the movement/positioning of the golf club and shaft. We discuss screening and measurement systems as well as some discussion on rotation, 3D perspective and how coaches can enhance their established skill of swing recognition by teaming up with a PT with skill of movement recognition. Rightly or wrongly the individuals you meet or have interactions will have influences on you, as for life to purely be an inside out job would require you to be borderline inhuman. As a golf coach the individuals we chose to help us learn will also quite possibly affect the information you pass on to your clients so there is an onus on a coach to make sure the information we are gathering is from a reliable source. In my view, Mike Kay is one of the most skilled individuals I have ever come across. His understanding for my lack of awareness on movement from a PT perspective I am sure screens me from knowing the full extent of his knowledge base but he has still managed to transform my perspective on movement in a golf swing. To change someone's perspective is to change how they think not just what they think and that is something with mass potential. His dedication to searching, exploring and challenging reflects his understanding of the important role he plays in his clients lives and I feel very blessed to have learned and continue to learn from him….
This episode's guest is Stuart Morgan who works with many Tour Players and indeed elite amateurs around the globe in helping them improve their results. Some might label that a performance coach but to be percise Stuarts skills revolve around practicing and the learning side of the equation and in working with the players to get to know them more personally and to analyse their current practice and play patterns to see where improvement can be had so essentially looking at the how of improvement rather than the what. In this episode we free wheel somewhat but still have the usual stops along the way in trying to get some information to help all listeners whether club player or coach..We discuss the club golfers practice efficiency but more from a time perspective and looking over a longer time zone. We chat about assessing where you are at first and making a plan to take the next step to improvement and not try to jump straight to step 12. There is some discussion on segmented practice and how perhaps attempting a more conjoined learning session could possibly be more beneficial as opposed to wishful transference. For the coaches I really believe all the information applies as we mix in coaching references form the start. We chat about Stuarts outside influences from other sports realms and some of the insights other sports coaches gave him. We look at tech development and AI as it becomes more prevalent and discuss the good and the bad and how coaches should evaluate and research the origin of any new tech before implementing it..There is the topic of age and expectation of relative improvement and how the time versus change parameter really influences that process. As I mention in the Podcast Stuart is a person whose name started coming up repeatedly in conversations with very smart people. I believe we share a similar quality in being hungry for the exploration and discovery of ways to help our players more while being ok with the process of both being wrong and learning and being right and learning more. I believe golf coaching is beginning to evolve in larger context with coaches looking to more that golf swing to help their players. For some that search can be daunting in a way that we are fearful that what we find might somehow invalidate all we have held true for so long,,,, for others like Stuart I feel he embraces the journey, the discovery, the learning and that at least in my book truly defines what you should search for in a golf guide to help your game.. Ladies and Gentleman
In this episode I got to chat to Jake Thurm. Jake is not only one of the smartest coaches in world golf but also one of the busiest as he coordinates success in all age groups of the game and indeed from all levels. From guiding junior players success as a director of the Midwest section and coach of the USA Junior Golf Team to working with many tour players like Kevin Streelman, James Hann , Mark Wilson and indeed Champions Tour players like Tim Petrovic he really covers all the coaching bases. This podcast covers such a wide variety of subjects and we start with Jakes background and some of his thoughts on club golfers and how they can improve both through asking maybe the right questions and also monitoring how they treat themselves on the course. We discuss one of Jakes specialized areas in Ground reaction forces and that maybe the goal move of LARGER force creation that club golfers are looking for is actually the false idol of grfs and we should be more focused on the sequence…Lastly for the club players we discuss some distance work that Jake has done with his champions tour players Tim Petrovic which has added some 13mph to his cruising speed which I a am sure we would all like… For the coaches we also go into GRF's and how Jake educated himself by trial and error and going to the source to get the answers to his questions. Also for the coaches the start of the podcast highlights Jake goals and process as a coach which I found so much clarity in. We chat the standards lessons that Jake learned form his mentors and the attitude to embrace challenges as educational opportunities. Before we start the show….For the most part my guest have been well known to me and indeed their range of accomplishments so I am in a position to guide my guests to discuss and educate us all on experiences I feel are relevant or quote educational opportunities… Halfway through recording this podcast as I learned more about Jake I initially felt I had slightly cheated you all out of a better experience by not directing the questions better or maybe not being prepared enough. When listening back in editing however I realised that perhaps what makes Jake one of the most impressive people to chat too his is passion for what he does. His true love for golf is evident however its his love for people, both coaches and students, that shines throughout his words… perhaps people like Jake who's goals are like the great Butch Harmon once said to teach people to golf and not golf to people…. Perhaps those individuals are better left with no q notes and no guidance and to just be themselves…Jake Thurm is one of the most educated, intelligent, well spoken, thoughtful and exciting coaches I have met throughout my years and if you don't know him you are about too… All the way form Chicago with the #1 draft pickLadies and Gentlemen Jake Thurm
In this episode I got to chat with two good friends of mine who also happen to be two of the smartest coaches in golf right at this time. Rob Failes, who is the Director of player development at Boars Head Golf Club in Virginia and a newcomer to the show Mark Grace who is the owner of Mark Grace Golf and a full time coach in Memphis Tennessee. For this podcast I ask Mark and Robbie to chat about how players can really improve long terms as opposed to those quick fixes and indeed we venture in to not only the technical but also the how I terms of the environment you create in your learning. We go into some of those common myths in golf and why they might not be as true as you once thought and finally, we chat about patterns/strategies or movements they like to see in players. For the coaching section we get into their learning over the past few seasons. Who are the people that they are choosing to learn from and why. We also discuss how to explore new information and then how to maybe disseminate it into a coaching situation and lastly, we chat about Doctors 4 which as well as being a coaching education event that is taking place on the 24th and 25th February in Charlottesville Virginia, in my mind it could be the best coaching education opportunity in 2023. As I have mentioned before this podcast has always been filtered by me rightly or wrongly to bringing the people that I feel you can all learn from on here. The idea is to give them the platform and present their information and beliefs and you can all draw your own conclusions. That being said I truly feel very strongly for what Mark and Rob have to say. Their perspective on the golfer instead of the golf swing and on the pre rather than the reactionary gives us all a different view point on what really is propelling the golf swing and what really is the most efficient path to improvement. I can't thank them enough for giving up their time as they are truly only after one goal and that is to help people understand golf and golfers understand ourselves….
In this episode I got to chat with Justin Parsons who is one of the premier coaches in world golf. Justin, originally from Northern Ireland, is an elite golf instructor at the impressive Sea Island Resort in Georgia. Over the past few years has worked with many top PGA tour players including Louis Oosthuizen, Davis Love 111, Patton Kizzire, Brian Harman, Gary Woodland as well as working with many elite college and amateur players. In this episode Justin brings us through some help for the club golfers in terms of the process of improvement…. So looking and assessing before we blindly hit the range. We chat about technology and its role for the everyday player as well as an example of what a week of practice would like for a Tour Player. On the coaches section we discuss the influence by the Harmon family on his career and the lesson he learned through those relationships. We also discuss his work with TPI, or the Titleist Performance Institute and how combining that knowledge assists with his assessment of players everyday. We move on to some of Justin's preference in swings, his thoughts on early movement of the ball dynamics and his excitement for exploring the subject of neuro training as we move into 2023 and we also get the opportunity to get him to part with some valuable advice for all coaches out there looking to improve their skills.
In this episode I chat with Dave Phillips who is the co founder of the Titleist Performance Institute(TPI) which is the world's leading educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing . A golf digest top 50 coach Dave has learned alongside some of the smartest in golf including David Leadbetter, Mac O'Grady , Ramsey McMaster and through the years has worked with some of the best players in the world like Tom Kite, Hal Sutton, Brad Faxon and currently works with numerous Tour players including Major winner John Rahm. For the club golfer we chat about the everyday physical challenges that you may face, why knowing what your body can and cant do is so important before you work on your swing, how to divide your learning time between the body training and the golf training and even a little chat about putting and how it can be influenced by how we move. From a coaching perspective we discuss Dave's influences, his swing philosophy, the work he and john Rahm have done and his relationship with Phil Mickelson and the current LIV golf situation. Lastly we discuss his business ventures with For Wellness and his ever growing passion for coffee. 07:00 - TPI - The ethos and how it helps club golfers and coaches.13:10 - The difference between gym fit and golf fit.17:00 - Special Offer for Shanks and Shamrocks listeners19:00 - Learning balance between physical and swing work. 22:45 - Creating speed for the older golfer.25:35 - Influence of TPI on putting.34:00 - Dave's career influences( Leadbetter, Mac O'Grady, Butch Harmon, Bob Toski)49:10 - Dave's swing philosophy.55:30 - Work and relationship with Jon Rahm65:30 - Phil Mickelson and LIV74:00 - Mickelson and what made the player.78:00 - Brain Training in golf and its advantages.83:20 - For Wellness - the company, the passion and the learning. 83:30 - For Wellness and The Good Stuff CoffeeDISCOUNT CODE : smgforwellnessWEBSITE: www.forwellness.comDave PhillipsInstagram : @tpidaveTwitter : @mytpidaveTPI : www.mytpi.comFor Wellness : www.forwellness.com
In this episode I got to chat with George Gankas who my mind is one of the top coaches of our generation. I don't think anyone has moved the needle more in how golf coaching is delivered all the while backing it up with an in depth understanding of human movement and golf dynamics. His ability to create distance for players across the board has made him a guru of sorts and numerous tour pros and elite amateurs throughout the years, including Sung Kang, Matt Wolff, Adam Scott, Padraig Harrington and many more have sought him out. For this podcast we were a little time poor so the conversation moves and develops along some changing lines for the 35 odd minutes. We discuss briefly George's work and thoughts on the mental game, having awareness or flow and how developing those skills has helped him assist his players through their own struggles on the course. We chat briefly about his ever-growing training aid collection and website and the challenge of creating an program that would reflect his patterns and techniques accurately. There is some talk about golf terminology and Butch Harmon as well as what he feels should be a priority in Golf Coach learning… All in all this was a really fun and very interesting conversation with one of the worlds best golf coaches.. Lastly, I hope for everyone listening to this to someday get the opportunity to meet George. When in his company you get to see a person who truly loves what they do and genuinely cares for all those who come in contact with him. Too often we see people with immense talent in a discipline nearly use it to distance themselves from the also rans and George is the complete opposite…. As I mention in the podcast I believe as talented as he is in swing, his true skills lie in how he treats other and the example he sets.Website: www. georgeganks.golfTraining Aids: www.gankassports.com
In this episode I got to chat with John Dunigan who is one of the elite coaches at combining motor control and learning with the technical aspect of golf coaching. John has worked with numerous PGA tour players as well as creating one of the best Junior programs in North America. He is a Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher, a Golf Digest Top 50 Teacher and has won the Philadelphia PGA Section's Teacher of the Year Award 4 times. For this podcast you get treated to an insight not too often seen where there is encouragement to experiment and not just learn but simply experience different types of awareness with the club. In my opinion John has many skills but perhaps the greatest skill of all is his ability to translate and transfer to his pupils how to hit a golf ball in the simplest form. We discuss a few training drills that he likes to use for everyone from club golfers to tour pros and discover more about putting and the book John wrote that creates a path for putting improvement through skill development rather than technical perfection. When we moved to the coaching section we go to chat about the standard junior golfers set for themselves, is hands on coaching removing the learning for the golfer?, his work with Sean O'Hair and what all coaches could learn from their first range session together and lastly we discuss the Skilled Coaching Alliance which together with Dr. Will Wu John has created to help develop other coaches skills and create a community of learning….It is very rare to tick all the boxes when it comes to being a complete golf coach and not just an instructor and John not only ticks these boxes but colors them in with his intelligent, personality and passion for the coaching the game we love,…
Our guest for this episode is Rob Failes who is the Player Development Leader at the mightily impressive Boars Head Golf Resort in Charlottesville Virginia. As well as been a bachelor of science graduate from Clemson University Rob has been nominated by Golf Digest as a Top 50 teacher in state as well as numerous other accolades in his career to date. What makes Rob stand out to me as a coach off note and one to follow is not only his constant strive to see differing perspectives and relentless pursuit of information but the goal of transferring that learning and knowledge into easy-to-understand delivery methods for his students. As his title would suggest his intent is Player Development and all roads lead to that one goal. From day one that I met Rob he has shown a tenacity to not only look under the hood but to strip it all down and try to rebuild it so he really understood how it all works… Similar to all aspects of life The golf coaching landscape is ever changing and developing and the view of the future is one of more understanding, understanding of learning methods, understanding of communication methods and definitively understanding of our players….Rob Failes is one of the coaches leading that expedition….Guest Instagram : @robfailesgolf
In this episode I got to chat with Dana Dahlquist who is one of the top coaches in world golf. As well as working with many elite amateur, college and tour players Dana is constantly evolving his golf coaching style and skills and the result is a team of some of the best movers in the game.We chat about one of Danas students Beau Hossler and his return to form on the PGA tour, speed creation and the new program, the 150 mph blueprint, that Dana is involved in, how a club golfer can swing it right by, well, swinging it right and we discuss how maybe some perceptions about the legendary Mac O'Grady may have been a bit of the markThere is recognizably more of a technical vibe to this podcast than previous ones and throughout Dana regularly delves into his own experiences in order to present advice for other coaches looking to learn. In a business that at times and in places can be known for being somewhat secretive with the formula for success Dana is the opposite and what comes across in this podcast is his genuine desire to help, progress and encourage others while remaining humble despite his obvious success…. In the immortal words of one Yoda “You will only find what you bring in” and from my perspective Dana Dahlquist is a coach that consistently looks to bring in further knowledge, curiosity and passion in abundance…in my opinion we would all do well to follow suit…
So on this weeks show we have Baden Schaff. Now Baden may not be a household name but the platform he has created, Skillest Golf, is the #1 online golf lessons platform in the world and is changing the face of golf coaching. We chat about Baden's early years in growing his love for golf and how from an early age he would have that inquisitive personality that all great coaches' posses. This inquisitive nature led Baden to work with one of the leading coaches in Australian golf , Gary Edwin and with Gary Baden would mold his views on golf coaching and golf swing. The main discussion on this podcast is what was born just over 7 years ago when Baden created the Skillest platform which as I mentioned has now become the leading platform for online Golf instruction. We discuss the move towards this option of coaching and the reasons that so many golfers are now turning to this path of information whether that be cost, choice, convenience and or comfortability. We chat about current technology and how it is indeed narrowing the gap between in person and online and we also discuss the addition of Sean Foley as an ambassador to the platform and what Sean has brought to the process.. At the end of the day we are all learning and that's exactly what is on the tin with this episode. It is an honest look at online coaching through the eyes of the man who created the platform and a coach who is seeing the benefits for both the game and the students. It is a clarification on what you might think online coaching to be an d what exactly is involved in the process. If you ever wanted to get information about the online coaching from the horses mouth well you have chosen the perfect spot to listen to
My guest this week is Scott Cowx, one of the smartest people in world golf instruction and indeed in golf coach education. Scott has long been associated with dissecting a golf swing pattern into moving parts to illustrate their cause and effect and then putting it all back together again akin to how a top mechanic might reconstruct an engine. His stable of players if full of carefully orchestrated and labelled clubface deliveries similar to the presentations and research he so clinically delivers in education seminars and his own education programs. Now the information comes thick and fast early on in this podcast. From Scotts very first answer you get an insight into how he sees the golf swing and the meshing of biomechanics and club movement with some sneak mentions of future projects…Scott delphs into his early years of finding his educational path and discusses his affinity for creating nuanced drills, like spoon and hell, that lead his players to differing movement patterns. In the second half of the Podcast Scott discusses his influence from the legend Mac O' Grady and how macs work and others was similar to standing on shoulders of giants in allowing him to explore and build on the work they created..We talk about hackmotion and how he creates the presentations that blow all our minds and lastly we get chatting about the Cowxcertified brand, its origin , the responsibility of education other coaches and what's in store for the future… A friend , a mentor and an incredibly smart individual ….Scott Cowx
In this episode I am joined by Dr. Mark Bull one of the premier bio mechanists in the golf world today. Dr. Bull is one of the most fascinating individuals to listen to as his perspective on learning delves deeply into a questioning of all that you have learned as a default since you started to play the game of golf. His conciseness of the terminology we use is on display as he navigates through a lot of the areas that we are simply not performing or acting as we should to illicit improvement in our golf games with this in many cases originating from our miss understanding. There is discussion on Movement of the body in terms of posture, trail arms and foot and ankle movements. How we are chasing distance perhaps with to the detriment of responsibility. Education and not certifications. How do we really learn whether as a player or a coach. Influences being external but also internal by holding yourself accountable. How we should all learn to breathe. Stick with the Good stuff to maintain improvement.
A sit down and chat with Jason Sutton aka The Golf Guru who is truly one of the elite coaches and one of the smarted individuals in the game today. I really wanted to get Jason on the show as when you look at his experience and status in the game there are few who can match it. Jason has amassed a huge following on his Podcast , The Golf Guru Show, where he interviews the top echelon of the golf game in terms of coaching and player development. Jason has a technical knowledge base to match anyone in the world but in this podcast, I wanted to put is knowledge on display about personal development, the attributes of being a top level coach and what is EQ and how it really needs to be on your radar. I think in these situations when talking with intelligent people we can go for the quick fix but I wanted to dive a bit deeper and get Jason's thoughts on a number of different issues so sit with us and listen to Jason and although I cant guarantee you will be a better player or a better coach at the end of it I am pretty sure you will look at things a little differently by the end of it.
A chat with 5 time European Tour Winner Barry Lane. Barry discusses his entry into golf and how the love affair began. We chat about his memories of interactions with such legends as Bob Torrance, Seve and Bernhard Langer. He gives us some detail on what is helping him get his game back in shape for the 2022 season and also some advice for the club golfer out there and how changing your mind set and your perception might be the quickest way to improve. A walk back through the career with a nod to the future success.
In this episode I got to chat with Dr. Karl Morris who is one of the elite sports performance coaches in the world. Client list in the Golf world includes Lee Westwood, Graeme McDowell, Darren Clarke, Louis Oosthuizen to name a few. Karl discusses how we as players are constantly creating opinions on our games rather than dealing more with facts, how we can improve our game by creating simple thoughts and attaching it to imagery and also how we should be asking ourselves questions to create the required intention before each shot. This is a Podcast for everyone to start looking at their Golf game and the way they view it in a little bit of a different light.
A chat with short game coach to LPGA and PGA players, Gareth Raflewski. Gareth has over 75 wins as a coach on both tours combined and joined us to chat about his coaching philosophy, what he looks for when helping golfers of all abilities and his venture in to the putting training aid market and how that started to really help his students.
Chat with PGA Tour putting coach and Irishman Stephen Sweeney about his journey to the PGA tour from Donegal, his work with PGA players like Joaquin Niemann, Aaron Wise, Wyndham Clark and his recent addition to that list in the form of an Irish Major Winner Shane Lowry......Stephen also gave us some good fundamentals to work on our own games and chatted about his upcoming creation of a new Indoor Putting facility in Palm Beach...
A chat with Dr. Will Wu PHD about understanding motor learning and how we can use that understanding to potentially enhance our practice time. How to create a structure in our practice so we are practicing to improve rather than for the sake of practicing full stop and also how coaches can look more at the art of learning and guided practice to assist students in their environments when away from the guidance of their coach.
I got to chat with Coach Doug Lawrie about his path to becoming one of the premier coaches in the country, his views on junior golf in Canada and some other fun topics that came up. Enjoy
