In the last 10-20 years, attitudes toward LGBTQ+ people in America have shifted due to more positive visibility and evolving cultural norms. Cynthia takes a look at two moments from 1970s television that revealed glimpses of LGBTQ+ allyship—a talk show moment and a 1974 episode of Police Woman. In 1970, June Lockhart appeared on The Virginia Graham Show and stopped the hostess in her tracks, pushing back on stereotypes and tropes common for the time. And the story of how a 54-year-old clip is available for viewing is its own testament to advocacy. LGBTQ+ scholar and media documentarian Steven Capsuto's book, Alternate Channels, helped Cynthia connect the June Lockhart dot to an episode of Police Woman.  Capsuto's book is an essential work for every media, gender, and social justice scholar. He traces television and even radio's early depiction of mostly gay characters and the absence of lesbians. His book also details the LGBTQ+ community's organization and support from straight allies that fought against distorted and ugly depictions of gay and lesbian characters in television and film for more than 75 years. The overall trend in American society has been toward greater understanding and support for LGBTQ+ people and this is, to a significant degree, the result of advocates and allies pushing for more positive and diverse characterizations in popular culture. Television largely ignored lesbians until the 1970s and even then, the characters were bitter, violent, and unstable. With just a few sentences, June Lockhart, in real life, and Angie Dickinson, as Sgt. During the troubled times the country is in, let's seek to do the impossible. Let's seek to be used by God, to touch, to move others, and look to God to get things accomplished.

None of us thought that we'd still be in the virus lock-down in the middle of August, but here we are. Pastor Troy believes the virus will end right after election and it's be politicized. His words of encouragement give us hope of God ending it.

Pastor Troy gives the example of the rich young rules about sacrifices. Giving up things in this life, not only benefits our walk with God now, but blesses us into an eternal life. And we're not talking about money.

During the end times, the Bible describes times of comfort. The scriptures regarding the end times are not to place fear in our hearts, but rather comfort. This is a great message to relax our troubled spirit.

We had the honor to speak with Rev. Troy Perry who is a gay rights activist, and founder of Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC). MCC started with 12 people in Perry’s home and has grown to have a presence in 37 countries with 222 affiliated churches. Rev. Perry who has been invited to the white house 5 times, talks to us about organizing the first pride in Los Angeles. Pastor Troy explains one particular gauge in an airplane, the Attitude Indicator. It's not an Altitude Indicator, but attitude. This gauge tells the pilot whether the nose of a plane is up or down .. you guessed it .. we all need one of these for our spirit.

One of the most important things we can do for God is grow. Spiritual growth is vital to our relationship with God. Pastor Troy teaches us how we need to plant spiritual seeds to grow with God.

Through the pandemic we are all suffering from, there is help that awaits. Our focus has to be on God and what God is doing through this and what He can do for each of us.

In Genesis 34, a young girl has been raped, and instead of crying injustice, Jacob held his peace and remained silent. Pastor Troy digs into the wisdom of remaining silent and allow God to bring justice.

There are 3 major feasts in Israel, Passover, Pentecost and the feast of Tabernacles. Pastor Troy describes the difference between being Pentecostal and Charismatic churches.

During this time of disturbance in America, and the world, we can either have a revival in our soul, or just survive spiritually. Encouraging words will life your spirit and help you not to walk in fear, but in a heart revival.

Pastor brings up one of the most powerful men in the New Testament. Before Paul became Saul, he had an encounter with Jesus that left him blind for 3 days. This is an encouraging message of what God can do through spiritual blindness to opening out eyes.

Draw near to God, and He will draw closer to you. Today, Pastor Troy gives some excellent principles to draw closer. We can be content, but never satisfied with how close God is to us.

Pastor Troy encourages us, from his home that the joy of the Lord is our strength. According to Nehemiah 8:10, has much more meaning than just the joy that God provides.

This story is sometimes the opposite of what most people think. With today's society, raising children, everybody wins. In life, during times of trouble, Jesus produces a win on our lives, even during times where we feel like we just lost.

Through the troubled times of the world, we can always find what we're looking for, in Christ, especially peace in our hearts. Walking through major crisis, walking through sickness, let's find peace and hope through Christ.
