Người Nhật là ai? Donkey Kong, also known as DK, is a male gorilla, the main protagonist of the Donkey Kong franchise, and the leader of the DK crew. Over the years, Nintendo has been ambiguous about just how many Donkey Kongs there have been. The first character named Donkey Kong appeared in the 1981 arcade game Donkey Kong and its sequels, serving as the villain. In 1994's Donkey Kong Country, a new, different-looking Donkey Kong was introduced, said to be the grandson of the original arcade character, who was now the elderly Cranky Kong. In subsequent games, however, the likeness of the "new" Donkey Kong is often used in place of that of the "old" Donkey Kong in games such as Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Game and Watch Gallery (in the title screen only), and Yoshi's Island DS, in which Mario and DK are both babies. However, the modern DK being the same age as Mario would be anachronistic, as Mario is portrayed as significantly older in age than the original Donkey Kong's offspring in Donkey Kong Jr.

The conclusion of our Bear & Bird adventure is coming soon, but for now it’s New Year’s Eve and it seems fitting to take this opportunity to look back and then look forward. We released episodes on ten games from our list this year, starting with Game & Watch Gallery and ending out on Majora’s Mask. What are our main takeaways from these experiences? How do we feel about the four bonus episodes we released as well? Finally, what does our next stretch potentially look like, as we leave the Nintendo 64 and enter the realm of the almighty Gamecube? Let’s also not forget that a new game has been added to our list since last we spoke, so we go ahead and discuss that a little too. We’ll be back in a week or so with our episode on Banjo-Tooie, but for now have a Happy New Year and we’ll see you in 2021!

As VGM lovers, we all come across tunes and soundtracks from games we've never played. In this episode, I explore my personal Top 5 games that, despite never playing, have excellent music. My regular listeners get in on the theme too, and plenty of recommendations are thrown around.Otherwise, Quickfire News continues on strong with three new segments, while bookending rounds of the SFX Showdown should keep you on your feet. I also need the help of a new TTS guardian angel to pronounce one particular legend's name right. In the VGM SongFight, Mario agrees that Rosalina's odd space signal is a worry, and suggests the help of an old family friend...This week's playlist:Track 2 – Alberto J. Nick and Eric are going very old school Nintendo this week as they play though some of the big N's earliest games! Do any of these simple classics hold up? It’s Game and Watch Gallery for the Gameboy!
HARK! What’s that in the distance? A beep? Perhaps a boop? A buzz, even? Whatever you call it, the answer is that it’s a blast from the past! That’s right, it’s time to talk about Smashterpiece #21: Game & Watch Gallery, a Game Boy title released in 1997 pretending to be a handheld device released in 1980. What’s the history of the Game & Watch itself? What were our feelings when comparing this title’s Classic and Modern versions of the available games? Is there even any music worth talking about here? All this and more in today’s episode!Join us next time when we jump into an Arwing and take off into space for Smashterpiece #22: Star Fox 64
We have arrived at the end of this journey, as Meteor approaches and the roar of Weapon can be heard in the distance. At long last our trip through Final Fantasy VII has come to a close, the planet is saved. Ultimately what did we think of a game often called one of the greatest JRPGs ever made? How do we feel about the final sequences, the trip down to Sephiroth, and the final battle with the one winged angel himself? What did Matt learn about the mess of a localization this game received in 1997? All this and more in today’s finale!Join us in 2020 when we take a trip back to a world of LCD with Smashterpiece #21: Game & Watch Gallery

Another incremental release for Game Boy Color; like Wario Land II, Game & Watch Gallery 2 began life as a monochrome release in one territory (but not the rest). Quirky history aside, it's a fine recreation and distillation of some formative portable history. While it doesn't offer 100% verisimilitude to the source material, this is a loving recreation packed with tons of extra features and some remarkably involved unlockable content. Not bad for a collection of primitive pocket calculators.
There’s the Mario music that gets remade time and time again with each new game, but there’s also a great deal of other tracks that don’t. They're good too, however, and a lot more eclectic than you might expect from ol' Super Mario and friends. This episode — a sequel to Episode 23, linked below — is all that weird stuff from Mario games and their various spinoffs. The Marioverse is wild and strange. Enjoy. This is a celebration of the less famous songs from Mario games and Marioverse games. These are not the familiar, nostalgic tracks that get redone again and again. No, these are the catchy, weird and otherwise notable tracks from Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Wario games that haven't made their way into the go-to Nintendo songbook. Trigger warning: I will make you listen to a Virtual Boy song. For our first ever episode, Bryan and Clay have some good old fashioned fun talking about the first Game and Watch Gallery!
Game & Watch Gallery is a Nintendo Gameboy game which brings together four of the Game & Watch games - a very cool piece of Nintendo history before the NES existed! Trevor and Johnny talk about these original LCD handheld games, then dive into this Gameboy game with a full review, bliss quiz, and lots of dumb jokes. Really, really dumb jokes.
Earl and Jurek are right back where they left off last week as they continue to play Game and Watch Gallery 1, 2, and 3 for the Nintendo Gameboy.
