In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, you could obtain a hood ornament called "The Spirit of Pants". But on this episode of the Kongversation, we argue that Mr. Pants is the true spirit of Rare. Honoring 20 years of the greatest puzzle game of all time, Hyle and Freezer examine the in-universe history of Rare's underwear mogul and television presenter who's appeared and been alluded to across their shared universe!
The Geek Critique returns to the Kongversation to help Hyle grapple with a newly relevant question now that Banjo-Tooie is on Nintendo Switch Online: What is it about the game that's historically kept it from clicking with fans of even the original Banjo-Kazooie, or inspired rabid devotion that eclipses all else? With NSO making it easier than ever to get into it and helping to mitigate the issues for the former, Hyle believes he has an answer for the latter. Banjo-Tooie is the ultimate game for Rare sickos!
Join us for the latest episode of the GVGCast as we lament the passage of time with a chat about the Switch reveal happening eight whole years ago, the release of Sonic X Shadow Generations, Banjo-Tooie on NSO, and -- as always -- topics from our wonderful Patron community!

Stinky Ape Summer comes to a close with our annual Talk Like a Pirate Day episode! This time, Hyle and Dustin pick up a discussion they started back in June about Rare, Rare's legacy, and how they could do a better job in honoring it. The answer? Put Captain Blackeye in Sea of Thieves!
A British franchise of video games featuring the titular characters Banjo the bear and Kazooie the bird going on various adventures. The series began in 1998 with the release of Banjo-Kazooie on the Nintendo 64. The series and characters were developed by Rare and published by Nintendo, who at the time had an exclusive publishing agreement together. In 2000, a direct sequel to the original game, Banjo-Tooie, was released. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Scotty is back with another episode of Slasher Scotty and his guest is Grant Kirkhope, who was the musical composer on the hit Nintendo 64 games, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and GoldenEye 64. Grant discusses with Scotty the possibility for a Banjo-Threeie, turning the franchise into a web series or movie, how the game just celebrated its 25th anniversary, what the Mumbo Jumbo chants in Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie were created, how the flower pots in Mad Monster Mansion were saying vulgar words, and much, much more. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/slasherscotty/support
Hey, remember that time Tiny Kong encountered a mermaid in Donkey Kong 64? That was kind of stupid. It didn't fit the Donkey Kong Universe. OR DID IT? Historic folklore intertwined with further in-game mythology over the next 24 years says otherwise! DK Vine sells out to Disney by analyzing the little mermaids (and little mermen and oh-so-precious sirens) of Rare's shared universe!
In our third episode on the legendary scrapped Stop 'N' Swop feature, Steve from off of Rare Gamer returns to discuss even more details that have recently been unearthed! What do Banjo-Kazooie cartridges emit in their search for compatible games? How would Banjo-Kazooie have connected to Donkey Kong 64, and what does it have to do with Crystal Caves and the mystery pillar in Creepy Castle? We finally have some tangible answers!

Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Back on Remember The Game? #81, Mark McCue and I reviewed Banjo-Kazooie. I'd never played it before, and when I was done with it, I said I thought it was better that Super Mario 64 (a statement I stand by today). We both agreed that we needed to get around to playing Banjo-Tooie, and then, like, 3 years passed. I knew we'd get to it eventually, but I wasn't sure when. And then a Patreon of the show by the name of Banjo (coincidence?) sponsored an episode, and said it's time. Play Banjo-Tooie. So I did. And hooooo boy, do I have a lot to say about it. It takes the formula of the original game, and expands on it in a massive way. Bigger levels, more puzzles, and a long-ass cutscene to start the thing off. It's definitely more ambitious than the first game. Is it better? You'll have to listen to find out. Show sponsor, Banjo, swings by to explain why this game is so damned near and dear to his heart. And then the Banjo to my Kazooie, Mark McCue himself, gives me a call and we take a deep dive into the fun, albeit somewhat controversial, Banjo-Tooie. And before we get jiggie (see what I did there?), I slap together another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, someone asks how I feel about buying new games at full price. How excited am I about the TMNT: The Last Ronin game?? And how often do people complain about the Infamous Intro?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Rare (developed) Nintendo 64 games: Diddy Kong Racing, Perfect Dark, and Conker's Bad Fur Day.

A narrative has begun to take hold in online discourse claiming that the Nintendo 64 was an outright failure. And while this might be true in Japan, it's not speaking to the full story around the world. Josh Wallen from off of the Geek Critique returns to defend the most powerful console of the mid-1990s!
Recorded and broadcast live on the afternoon of Halloween, Hyle and Jeff discourse the surprisingly consistent lore for animated skeletons across the Donkey Kong Universe!

Things continue to happen and not happen as we see some old friends, meet some face to face and meet some new characters that cry at us. We talk about: Banjo-Tooie, Disney Village, Wrestling Drama, Molly Gets Movie-Pilled, Luke The Backwards Boy, Insurance Magic, The Dern, Magic Tricks, Fat Trout Trailer Park, Heidi Returns, We Laugh A Lot About A Fictional Kid's Death, Safe Fingerprints, Ike the Spike, Hey You Dougie!
I'm the key figure in an ongoing government charade, the plot to conceal the truth about the existence of extraterrestrials in the Donkey Kong Universe. It's a global conspiracy, actually, with key players in the highest levels of power, that reaches down into the lives of every monkey, bear, and squirrel on this planet. So, of course, no one believes me. I'm an annoyance to my superiors, a joke to my peers. They call me Spooky, Spooky Hyle, who played Donkey Kong Country when he was just a kid and who now chases after little green men with a Pro Controller, shouting to the heavens or to anyone who will listen that the fix is in, that the sky is falling, and when it hits it's gonna be the shit-storm of all time.
Released on the same day as Banjo-Tooie and effectively replaced only two-and-a-half years later with another remake, the Game Boy Color version of Donkey Kong Country is a relatively forgotten curiosity in DKU canon. But we? We sort of love it. The Kongversation puts the Spotlight on a game where you can't even properly display spotlights: DKC GBC!
