Peregrine - V86, Perdix and Perdix AI - V93, Perdix 2 - V95 and the Teric - V23 Commentary Earlier this month we had another local dive shop close here in Connecticut. While there are a number of reasons why this shop closed there is one element that we cannot ignore. Many local dive shop owners are getting older and there will come a time when these dive shop owners will retire. What then? There are two options - find another, younger owner to take over or close the shop. With so many headwinds, running a full service local dive center is complicated. Will the local dive shop model evolve from the high flow business of the 1980s and 90s? Only time will tell. The 2020 Divers Alert Network Annual Diving Report provides information from 2018 on diving related fatalities, injuries as well as information on equipment failures. The report is 92 pages and broken down into five sections and five appendices. DAN started this report in 1988 and plans to release the next Annual Diving Report before the end of 2023. Mehgan's life story is wildly eclectic and has elements that originally attracted me, particularly its sense of rugged individualism and carving your own path. As a teenager and underwater model, she was a pioneer as she set the first U.S. freedive record for both men and women in the constant-weight category. And this earned her a place as one of the original inductees and the youngest ever at the time of induction to the Women Divers Hall of Fame. From there, she went on to perform underwater stunts for Hollywood films, such as Pirate of the Caribbean and Into the Blue, and was recruited by Discovery Channel and starred in their original series Treasure Quest: Snake Island. (launchyourdreamlife.com) ********************* Opening Remarks  Hi everyone, and welcome. One of the things I find fascinating as I interview people is the variety of things that attract us, how different are the subjects we want to learn, and the environments we want to explore. And how what scares one person makes another one come alive. Jill Heinerth and I both love the water. We'd both jump on a flight to outer space if the opportunity presented itself. But Jill has trained to be a world class underwater explorer and boldly goes where no human has ever ventured. She faces her fear regularly and has taken away a lesson that I wholeheartedly agree with-- that stepping into the darkness might feel scary but it's also exciting. If you focus on that and take small manageable steps you can come up with some amazing results. One of my favorite parts of my conversation with Jill is how she learned to say no. Once in awhile she finds herself in a situation where her professional judgment tells her this is unsafe. Even though she's close to the prize or others want her to go on, she knows it's too dangerous and draws the line.  For most of us our decisions aren't quite as much a matter of life and death. But from time to time we all need to resist social pressure and respect our our personal boundaries. Sometimes saying no is as courageous as diving into the unknown I encourage you to visit the links in the show notes and see some of Jill's videos. Her descriptions are excellent but the images take you to a whole new world. Here's the interview. (Full transcript at https://ialwayswantedto.net)

I am a dive master and have been for five or so years...  I started out as a recreational diver and wanted to progress a little bit further.  Keen on all things outdoors.. Kayaking, Paddleboarding and enjoy crossfit and gym,..   Gemma is currently working towards her open Water qualification although that is on hold at the moment as we are in lockdown.  Gemma iis also a fan of being on the water and decided to give the underwater environment a go too. Main aim is to promote the scuba diving sport in terms of the recreactional side and what other options are out there too..   and this also leads to us wanting to promote more women to give scuba a go too.  Along side this we want to show our respect for the ocean, lakes and rivers in terms of conservation and general respect.
