Darren hosts solo as he recaps LAFC's narrow 1-0 victory to kick off the MLS season. We saw some rust get worked off nicely, and some rust still hangin out, which is not as nice, but a BEAUTIFUL team goal from Delgato-to-Bouanga-to-Ordaz-to-Ebobisse for the BANGER maintained LAFC's undefeated status at home. We also got important updates from callers on the 2025 BMO stadium vibes, food updates, and more. Also, Darren's bet cashed on DAY ONE!? Hello Rank Squad! It's nearly time for kick-off in MLS' 30th season, so we thought it was the right time to sit down and take a look at how things are shaping up ahead of a landmark campaign. We start with Dean's new hometown club of San Diego FC, examining how the 30th franchise in the league are looking ahead of their maiden voyage in the Western Conference; before moving things on to the contenders to challenge for the Supporters' Shield, and, later on, MLS Cup. We examine reigning champions LA Galaxy, their crosstown rivals Los Angeles FC and the Seattle Sounders in the West, with a word to the San Jose Earthquakes; before heading over East to take a peek at Supporters' Shield holders Inter Miami, big-spending Atlanta United, a new era at FC Cincinnati, and the Dean Smith evolutions at Charlotte FC. Finally, we move onto the individual players and new signings who could make all the difference, from 2024 MVP Lionel Messi, through the fresh strikers of Emmanuel Latte Lath and Kevin Denkey, Wilfried Zaha at Charlotte, the returning Miguel Almiron, a big intra-league transfer in Evander, and many more. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?

D.C. United's Christian Benteke grew up playing soccer in the streets of Belgium—where a nutmeg is worth more than a goal. As he got older, he refined a blend of skill and physicality that helped him net 23 regular-season goals this year, beating out Bouanga, Messi, and Suárez to capture the 2024 MLS Golden Boot. Although D.C. barely missed out on a playoff spot, they were in contention thanks to Benteke—who contributed to almost 60% of the club's goals this season. On today's episode, Taylor sits down with Benteke to talk about his soccer origins, the evolution of his game, and why learning new languages is so important on and off the pitch. Plus, Taylor breaks down the most dramatic Decision Day since 2014. Offside With Taylor Twellman is a Major League Soccer podcast, produced by Apple TV and Rain Delay Media. Looking to continue the end of season success, LAFC heads to "Blue Hell" to take on Sporting KC. The Black and Gold would score early, threaten often, and keep another sheet clean, still in the hunt for the Western Conference crown. It's all here on Episode 332!Denis Bouanga earned his 11th shot a goal from the penalty spot early in the match. This one, however, would be his first saved attempt, as Tim Melia stayed put enough to both save Denis' penalty and watch the rebound whiz past him into the back of the goal, courtesy of David Martinez! In stoppage, Kike Olivera got on the end of a beautiful pass from Bouanga to double the lead heading into the half. After halftime, LAFC kept the pedal down, and the effort would pay off in the form of a beautiful, top bins goal by... Aaron Long? Yes! Aaron Long, in his 73rd appearance for LAFC, would finally get on the score sheet! The lesson learned? Don't leave Aaron long open! Hugo would do everything needed to keep the clean sheet, saving 4 shots but facing little danger, en route to his LAFC-record 11th shutout of the season. Also on this episode, Filly gets a quarterback while the Tyler Miller count rises by a few. Enjoy 332, and a much needed break until we head to Vancouver!
Guys... I think we're back. Travis and Vince break down a breezy victory with very little to complain about. LAFC clinches top 4 in the West, Bouanga finally misses a PK, and Aaron Long scores a Bouanga Blast. In the words of Daniel, "3 points. Nothing else matters. On to the next." But BOY WAS I ANGRY AT THAT REF. Giroud's beautiful first MLS goal was called off, Bouanga had a classic BB, Olivera did something with his head we don't have to ever talk about again. and This postgame had everything: Vince in front of a hot dog, Darren reiterating how much Open Cup means to us, Travis finally explaining the podcast polycule, and fan favorite Miss Bones in the flesh. Darren and Vince (Dince) dive into LAFC's massive in-season victory over Cincinnati, celebrating a rotated squad's cohesive performance against a top Eastern Conference team on their pitch. Clutch contributions from guys all over the pitch, start to finish, solidify that yes, we are, indeed, EXTREMELY BACK. Campos, Olivera, Martinez, Lloris, Bouanga... everyone brought it. I'm just naming players at this point. We have climbed out of our trench and are building momentum at form at just the right moment, which is why we need to focus on the most important parts of the show which are 1) The HaFoSafo LAFC Watchalong Curse is officially broken, and it was 100% Travis' fault, and 2) Vince and Darren both need to watch classic Gene Hackman movies before they speak again next, which is a thing they did far too much of today. So much for tuning up and getting in form for the 2024 U.S. Open Cup Final. LAFC drops their road match to Dallas, 3-1, behind another lackluster performance amid roster rotation. LAFC may not have won a match in their last 5, but a chance to win a trophy comes to BMO on Wednesday, in the form of SKC. Let's chat about it on Episode 328.An awful turnover right to the feet of Dallas' best goal scorer, Petar Musa, sees the home side take a 1-0 lead into the half. LAFC looked to stem the tide at the hour mark, subbing on Bouanga and Giroud, but in the next few minutes that followed, all hell broke loose for the Black and Gold. Two goals in two minutes from Dallas saw the lead balloon to 3, and if not for an Atuesta goal late, LAFC would be shut out by Texas for a third straight match.LAFC turns its focus to the Open Cup Final on Wednesday, and everyone looked to come out of this one injury-free. It should be an interesting atmosphere at BMO for the mid-week matchup. Also on this episode, Filly is in a fighting mood as Scarf recalls the club's history with Hello Kitty. Enjoy 328!

Episode 315, and what an effort by our boys! LAFC heads into the belly of the beast, Lumen Field in Seattle, and promptly stomps the Sounders, 3-0, behind a Bouanga brace and a Bogusz banger!LAFC raced out to an early 1-0 lead as Sounders defender Nouhou was whistled for a handball in the box. Denis does his thing, burying the PK, and LAFC was off to a flying start. Another patented laser show from Mateusz Bogusz, one-timing a volley from outside the box, gave LAFC a two-goal lead before halftime. The Sounders came out roaring in the second half, dominating possession, looking dangerous, and seemingly building towards a goal. Nobody told that to Kei Kamara and Denis Bounaga, however, as a Kei long ball found Denis through the middle, on the break, for his second of the night. Completely against the run of play, LAFC was now up three. Denis could have made it four heading into stoppage, but his first touch betrayed him, and he remains one behind Chicho for the Golden Boot lead. In stoppage, massive saves from Hugo (twice!) and Sergi Palencia keep the sheet clean and bring all three points home from Seattle! Also on this episode, Filly does a shooey while Scarf proposes changes to the All Star Game. Enjoy Episode 315. This one is for Papa Scarf.

Hosts Max Bretos and Steve Beitashour discuss a busy Summer of Soccer as LAFC players are involved in the Euros and Copa America in addition to a heavy club schedule. The Black & Gold offense is on fire: Kei is writing his name into the MLS history books, Mati is leveling up, and Denis is the most feared attacker in the league. Bouanga and Hugo Lloris are MLS All Stars but there are other LAFC players playing at that level as well. Obligatory 'El Traffico' preview with LAFC and the Galaxy meeting as the West's No. 1 and 2 teams for the first time. It's going to be a cracking edition of the league's most-watched rivalry. Kamara also joins the show to talk about his phenomenal career, his joy from returning home to continue playing in LA, how well the team is clicking and his excitement for the addition of Olivier Giroud.
Hosts Max Bretos and Steven Beitashour step back to take a look at some big picture storylines surrounding LAFC. The fellas postulate a Miami-LAFC MLS Cup Final, talk Bouanga's case for MVP, Mateusz Bogusz leveling up, and the esprit de corps within the squad. They also explore the connection between MLS first teams and their MLS NEXT Pro teams that are starting to churn out talent throughout the league. Later in the show, LAFC2 head coach Junior Gonzalez joins to talk about the ins-and-outs of LAFC's connection to its development team.
When you're rollin, you're rollin. LAFC stole one this afternoon. With both teams playing pretty sloppy, Bouanga and Bogusz ATE to secure the win. Also Orlando blew it, including a missed PK that sailed over the goal and into the stands, which Darren made sure to compare to Baggio's World Cup breakdown and completely ruin Vince's night! With Travis in NYC for the Tony Awards (yes, you read that right), and Vince off to a concert, that left time for Heel Of The Foot Geoff Tock to come on the show for a series of lukewarm takes about MLS Season Pass commercials and pregame music, and LAFC's future. Ultimately it's just more proof that even when you're subpar (Geoff Tock), you can still secure the victory (a fun show). Denis Bouanga receives a brilliant pass from Matty Bogusz before blasting a rocket past Roman Burki to take a 1-0 lead. He is heating up! Dave Denholm and Mario Ruiz tell the rest of the league to beware, because Denis Bouanga is catching fire. The guys recap the late game winner from Bouanga against Crepeau and the Timbers in a thriller at BMO Stadium. It's a FC Cincinnati takeover on this edition of Futbol Fit Check. Plus, Dave and Mario discuss which teams are real or fake after 10 games into the season. And, will Messi catch Vela in the history books?
Most fun livestream of the season! A hard fought game FINALLY goes our way as we remain unbeaten at home. Vince, Darren, and Travis break down a rollercoaster of a match against the surprisingly good Portland Timbers. We got overconfident, then we got underconfident, and then we got normal confident. We talked Maxime v Hugo. We talked Olivera vs Olivera. And we talked Darren vs his adoring fans. And say it with me folks...
Despite LAFC's less than stellar performance throughout most of the game, they manage to steal a point from the team at the top of the table. We asked for lineup changes! We fucked around and found out, and in some cases what we found out was pretty good (Chanot), in some cases it didn't go so well (Bogusz, Segura), and in some cases, Aaron long slid his leg right into a goal post to save a goal and ruin his season only to have his replacement score an own goal before Long is even able to leave the pitch. Meanwhile, is Bouanga.... BACK!??? It's possible Bouanga is back. Bouanga might be back. But in the end, maybe all that really matters is that we tread water long enough to make it to the summer transfer window. As boring as that is. Leave it to Geoff Tock, Heel Of The Foot, to come up with a take this boring.Join our Patreon and help us keep making this show.BRAND NEW merch available now at HappyFootSadFootPod.com.Twitter: @HaFoSaFoYouTube: @happyfootsadfoot Instagram: @happyfootsadfootTikTok: @happyfootsadfoot Hosted on Acast. PRO Giveth and PRO Taketh Away. Darren, Vince, and Travis break down a frustrating tie on the road that was needed, but still felt like a loss. We talk Palencia trying to fight Max, Bouanga's desperate need for anti-depressants, and even Crépeau getting a red to save us again. There are glimmers of hope with this squad, but is it time to change up our line up? We don't know, we are two dumb guys and one smart guy who is forced to listen to dumb guys.Join our Patreon and help us keep making this show.Merch available now at HappyFootSadFootPod.com.Twitter: @HaFoSaFoYouTube: @happyfootsadfoot Instagram: @happyfootsadfootTikTok: @happyfootsadfootFacebook: @happyfootsadfootpod Hosted on Acast.
