    Back to Basics - Vulnerability

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 5, 2025 36:53

After a long hiatus, Daring Greatly Podcast is back—and we're taking it back to the heart of why this podcast was created in the first place: embracing vulnerability. In this episode, I reflect on the journey that led me away from the mic and, more importantly, what has brought me back. Life has been full—overflowing with learning, growth, and deep alignment with my purpose. And yet, I've realized that even in seasons of joy, vulnerability still plays a vital role. Because showing up fully in the good times—without foreboding joy or bracing for loss—requires just as much courage as showing up in the hard times.Together, we'll revisit the perspective that changed my life, exploring Dr Brené Brown's wisdom on:✨ What vulnerability really is—and why it's not weakness.✨ The link between shame, fear, and our ability to experience joy.✨ How numbing discomfort also numbs love, gratitude, and connection.✨ The practice of wholehearted living and believing, "I am enough."This episode is an invitation—to myself and to you—to lean back into courage and to dare greatly once again. If this conversation resonates with you, share your thoughts with me! Let's keep this dialogue going on Instagram @DaringMediaZA Keep showing up, keep leaning in, and keep daring greatly.Support the show

"A personal manifesto is a declaration of your core values and beliefs, what you stand for, and how you intend to live your life. It functions both as a statement of principles and as a call to action." (Marelisa Fabrega). In this short episode, I share my own personal manifesto. In creating this manifesto I meditated on what values I want to stand for, and how I want to show up for myself, and for the people and spaces around me on a daily basis. I wrote this personal manifesto with the intention of re-reading it every morning as a part of my morning routine, and a way to remind myself of who I am and what I wish to stand for everyday. My hope is that this inspires you to reflect on your own values and beliefs, and if you are so inclined, write out your own personal manifesto (or use this one), to remind yourself daily of the journey you wish to walk. I love you. For many of us allowing ourselves to be vulnerable is a task we do not want to undertake. Mainly because we have come to understand vulnerability as a "bad thing" or a weakness. Failing to realise that vulnerability is neither good nor bad, rather it is the birthplace for all emotions - the starting point to feeling love, joy, and belonging. In this episode Sihle and I discuss Chapter 2 of Dr Brene Brown's book, Daring Greatly where she debunks 4 myths we've come to believe about vulnerability which have stopped us from creating real connections.
