On Tuesday violence broke out across Belfast following a knife attack in the city. Stephen Ogilvie is in hospital with serious wounds after the attack, and a 30-year-old Sudanese man has been charged with attempted murder. Ogilvie's family, politicians and police have called for calm after people took to the streets, with some reporting that residents were targeted based on their skin colour. Anita Rani speaks to Louise Cullen, BBC Correspondent in Northern Ireland and Twasul Mohammed, who came to Northern Ireland as a refugee from Sudan in 2016 and has been helping families affected by the violence. It's been 17 years since The Help was published, Kathryn's Stockett's first novel that sold 15 million copies worldwide, was translated into 38 languages and made into a successful film with Emma Stone, Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis. Kathryn has now written her second novel, The Calamity Club. She joins Anita.Have you ever had one of those moments when life feels so circular that you just can't believe it? A 'once-in-a-lifetime synchronicity' is what the poet Emily Cullen called it when she discovered that a poem she had written seven years ago, inspired by her eight year old son, turned up on the English exam paper he was sitting in Ireland. Anita catches up with them both.Acclaimed horror film Under the Shadow is set in Tehran during the 1980's Iran Iraq war and explores the boundaries between rational and irrational as fear encroaches. As a new play adaptation opens in London, Anita speaks to the director Nadia Latif and lead actor Leila Farzad. Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Corinna Jones
The event that sparked the racist riots in Belfast on Tuesday evening happened on Monday night in the north of the city. A Sudanese man, named in court as Hadi Alodid, is alleged to have brutally assaulted Stephen Ogilvie in a street knife attack that was filmed by a bystander. Ogilvie lost an eye and is in hospital with other serious injuries. The 30-year-old Alodid has now been charged with knife crimes and attempted murder and is remanded in custody for four weeks. So how extensive was the damage in the city? What role did anti-immigrant agitators, including from outside Ireland, play in the riots? What has been the official response? And is the city set for more nights of rioting? Irish Times audio producer Andrew McNair lives in Belfast and saw first-hand the damage caused by the rioters. Presented by Bernice Harrison. Produced by Suzanne Brennan, with research by Ellen Clusker. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Rioters took to the streets of Belfast last evening after a serious knife attack in the city on Monday night. 30-year-old Hadi Alodid has been remanded in custody, charged with the attempted murder of Stephen Ogilvie. Mr Ogilvie has lost an eye and suffered other catastrophic injuries. The Sudanese man is also charged with possessing a bladed weapon, and making threats to kill an NHS worker on the same day. The attack has led to widespread violent scenes in Belfast. Families were forced to fleet their homes, and houses and vehicles were set on fire. Jerry spoke to SDLP Belfast City Councillor Séamas de Faoite.
Belfast was ablaze last night, 24 hours after the attempted murder of Stephen Ogilvie. Houses, cars and buses were set on fire during riots across the city. It has since been announced that Ogilvie has lost an eye in the attack and 30-year-old Hadi Alodid has been charged with his attempted murder. The British government are laying at least some of the blame at the door of X owner Elon Musk, accusing him of whipping up tensions online ahead of the disorder.Lewis is on the ground in Belfast with Andy Hughes from The Crime Agents with a special report on the events that unfolded last night.Later, Jon and Emily speak with journalist and broadcaster Mehdi Hasan, who discusses how Musk and the far right have whipped up rioters and encouraged violence on the streets of Northern Ireland. The News Agents is brought to you by HSBC UK - https://www.hsbc.co.uk/
Lucinda welcomes career and leadership coach Laura Ogilvie-Jones to explore the rising corporate phenomenon of "comparativitis" where high-performing, senior professionals secretly lose confidence due to the pressures of social media, rapid technological change, and AI. Laura shares her insightful, values-driven coaching methods such as the North Arrow and Buzz Sheets to reveal how HR professionals can spot warning signs of fading confidence and foster environments of vulnerability to help leaders rebuild their self-assurance. KEY TAKEAWAYS High performers often project a polished professional image externally while secretly battling severe imposter syndrome and eroding confidence underneath. Constant bombardment from social media platforms like LinkedIn and Instagram pressures professionals to compare themselves to others, leading to self-doubt and second-guessing. True, sustainable leadership confidence is built not by maintaining a flawless, numeric-driven facade, but by embracing emotional intelligence, vulnerability, and self-awareness. HR can identify leaders struggling with confidence by watching for noticeable behaviour changes, such as withdrawal from opportunities, overthinking, or uncharacteristic defensiveness. BEST MOMENTS "They may well appear very confident externally... but actually underneath they might be struggling, and they might be losing confidence and having wobbles, having doubts, but they don't feel able to verbalise that." "The word I often use with my clients to talk about is 'comparativitis'. We are absolutely bombarded with images, news, communication about other people and what they're doing and how amazing they are." "When I'm working with someone one-to-one, it's the first time they've ever actually been honest, vulnerable, and authentic about what is actually going on and how they're actually feeling." "If you don't have that self-awareness, you're just, you know, blissfully carrying on." The Watchers are back at PTMC for Season 2, Episode 13 of The Pitt. It's “7:00 P.M.” and after a full 12 hours of watching the day shift slowly disintegrate, Jodie and Andrea are more than ready to sink into the night crew's warm, competent, extremely chill embrace. We meet the very welcome Dr. Crus Henderson (Crus Control, bay-bee!), spend not enough time with our dearest Dr. Shen (who really just needs some cake), and say goodnight (goodbye?) to Emma and Ogilvie. Meanwhile, our day shift team continues to stress us the hell out. But honestly, right now, while we're here in these show notes together, let's just ignore them for a few minutes and remind ourselves that we've still got two more hours with Abbott and the After Dark team. There now, doesn't that feel nice?If you're reading this, that means you've probably got your podcatcher of choice open right now. It would be SO helpful if you gave our little show a follow.

We chat with GiDeanLeigh Ogilvie from Phoenix Rescue Mission to explore how partnerships can turn homelessness response into a shared community effort rather than a siloed one. We see that profit and purpose are able to feed into each other and that businesses can do good, while doing well. The conversation highlights how collaboration with local organizations, churches, and businesses builds trust and supports lasting stability. Instead of focusing only on short-term relief, these partnerships help create pathways for sustained recovery, emphasizing that real impact happens when communities work alongside people, not just for them.We then focus on what makes partnerships actually work. GiDeanLeigh breaks down corporate social responsibility and the practical ways nonprofits and businesses can align—through monetary donations, volunteer engagement, sponsorships, and in-kind support. Using the four T's framework: time, talents, treasures, and ties, we outline how any partner can contribute meaningfully. The bigger takeaway is a mindset shift: moving away from competition and toward collaboration, where shared purpose, clear communication, and mutual value create stronger outcomes for everyone involved. To learn more about TRM, Click Here!To support TRM, Click Here! The Watchers are back at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center for Season 2, Episode 6 of The Pitt. It's “12:00 P.M.,” and Jodie and Andrea clock in for our recently-requested Nurses' Episode. We say goodbye to Pittsburgh's greatest groundskeeper, watch Dana's armor crack just enough to let the light back in, and generally celebrate the nurses who keep The Pitt–okay, maybe not totally ON the rails, but at least rails-adjacent. There's a Liberty Bell pin mystery that may never be solved, annoying A.I. shenanigans, and a move from fucking Ogilvie for which he will never be forgiven. Plus: a gridlocked granny, some extremely Pittsburgh sports fan behavior, and why Donnie's sink hole bet might not be as foolish as Ahmad thinks. We also dig into how this season is less about one big dramatic event and more about the less sensational long-term effects of trauma. What does success look like for HMRC with Making Tax Digital – and what does it really mean for the bookkeepers doing the work on the ground? In this Leadership Takeover Session, Craig Ogilvie, HMRC's Director for Making Tax Digital, explains the “why” behind MTD for Income Tax, how it will change the UK tax system, and why he believes bookkeepers are central to making it work for small businesses. Get step by step guidance on MTD for Income Tax https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/making-tax-digital-for-income-tax?Utm_source=6fb Craig shares his journey from a low-income upbringing in Scotland, through 20+ years in government delivery, to leading some of the UK's biggest programmes – including the furlough scheme during the pandemic. He explains how his parents' values around kindness and optimism shaped his leadership style, why he focuses so heavily on people and psychological safety, and how that translates into the way he runs the MTD team today. You'll hear a clear, human explanation of what MTD for IT actually is: digital record keeping, quarterly updates and software-based filing for millions of self-employed people. Craig talks about the three big reasons behind it – reducing errors in the tax gap, modernising the UK's tax infrastructure, and creating better customer service through more timely data and nudges – and why he sees bookkeepers as uniquely placed to turn that into better conversations about cash flow, credit control and business performance. He also explains the scale of the change: rebuilding core systems, working with third-party software through APIs, and designing multiple agent functionality so both accountants and bookkeepers can support the same client. Craig describes travelling around the UK to meet real practices, how those conversations led to changes like faster sign-up journeys and multiple agent access, and why HMRC is committed to genuine co-creation rather than “rubber-stamping” decisions already made. The episode goes deeper into social mobility, confidence and financial understanding. Craig talks about seeing his dad's January “bag of receipts”, the construction sector's heavy representation in the first MTD cohort, and the financial literacy gap facing many sole traders. He reflects on sessions with unrepresented business owners, where a clear explanation – often from a bookkeeper or accountant – can quickly change how someone feels about digital tools, quarterly reporting and understanding their numbers. ----------------------------------------------- About us We're Jo and Zoe and we help bookkeepers find clients, make more money and build profitable businesses they love. In this Legacy Series conversation, I sit down with Rebecca Ogilvie, founder of The Detour Co. Muskoka, to unpack what it really looks like to build a product-based brand rooted in integrity, intuition, and energetic alignment. What began as a deeply personal detour, simple skincare rituals during a season of depletion, motherhood, and reconnection, became a business devoted to helping women slow down, tune in, and treat themselves with respect. This episode is about energy leading before strategy, self-care as self-respect, and creating something sustainable that actually feels good to run. In This Episode: Why energy speaks before your marketing ever does How small, intentional rituals rewire confidence and self-trust The link between self-care, self-respect, and identity What motherhood revealed about intuition, protection, and leadership Building a product brand from intention instead of pressure How nature mirrors self-acceptance and compassion What it means to create a business with integrity and longevity SHOP THE DETOUR CO ✨ Free shipping for your next order! What if partnership is the most practical form of love? In this episode, we sit down with GiDeanLeigh Ogilvie, Organizational Partnerships Officer at Phoenix Rescue Mission, to explore how relationships with churches, companies, and foundations turn compassion into real, measurable impact. GiDeanLeigh shares her journey from HR into organizational partnerships, why staying close to frontline teams strengthens honest fundraising, and how initiatives like Code Red—mobilizing the community to deliver more than a million water bottles during Arizona's most dangerous season—show the power of clear goals and consistent communication. From outreach teams driving through parks, canals, and key freeway routes to case managers walking alongside people on their journey to stability, we look at how these daily realities shape the strategies that support outreach, recovery, and long-term transformation. We also look at how culture becomes strategy at Phoenix Rescue Mission, including rhythms like Refresh Week, leadership development, and intentional time for prayer that help prevent burnout and keep teams aligned. GiDeanLeigh highlights a standout partnership with QT that places dedicated outreach case managers at specific locations, creating a highly effective model for ongoing engagement and long-term housing outcomes. She also shares why her team approaches every partnership with a posture of curiosity—listening first, seeking alignment, and discovering how each organization's passions can uniquely strengthen mission work. Whether you care about homelessness solutions, nonprofit development, faith-led leadership, or cross-sector collaboration, this conversation offers practical insight and encouragement for building stronger communities right where you are.To learn more about TRM, Click Here!To support TRM, Click Here! In this heartfelt episode, I chat with Rebecca, founder of The Detour Co, a natural skincare brand rooted in mindfulness, intentional living, and self-connection. What started as a side project in her kitchen has grown into a brand that's not just about beautiful skin — it's about helping women slow down, reconnect, and nurture themselves through simple daily rituals.Key topics covered:How Rebecca went from yoga and meditation teacher to skincare founder — and why her brand is so much more than just products. The philosophy behind “from the land, not the lab,” and how nature inspires everything she creates.Staying grounded while growing a business and raising kids (and how meditation keeps her centered). The importance of community and why finding “your people” changes everything in entrepreneurship. How brand clarity and messaging often come from conversations, connection, and simply showing up.At the end of the day, building a business that feels good matters just as much as building one that looks good — because when you're aligned and connected to your purpose, everything else flows naturally.Mentioned in this episode: Faire, the largest wholesale marketplace connecting over 120,000 brands and retailers. Staci shares how Faire helps shop owners source unique products, offers flexible 60-day payment terms, and gives brands global visibility without cold pitching—creating a true win-win for small business growth.Retailers who are new to Faire can visit www.faire.com and use code SMBSCHOOL10 at checkout for 10% off their first order.Connect with Rebecca:Instagram: thedetourco.muskokaWebsite: https://thedetourco.com/pages/facial (use code ACADEMY for free shipping on any order.
