Subscribe & Message all comments and concerns to: http://www.facebook.com/tommynationpolitics The 2020 United States elections were held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Democratic presidential nominee, former vice president Joe Biden, defeated incumbent Republican president Donald Trump in the presidential election. Despite losing seats in the House of Representatives, Democrats retained control of the House and gained control of the Senate. As a result, the Democrats obtained a government trifecta, the first time since the elections in 2008 that the party gained unified control of Congress and the presidency… Since then, we've had the fanatics on both sides - censoring, politicizing, and manufacturing consent for their parties to legitimize themselves in power, and gain influence over the corrupt and centralized capital, we Americans read about in national corporate owned, government infiltrated newspapers. Trump, galvanized his right wing fascist moron base with quite an extraordinary whopper of a tall tale. Turns out, the consequences of falsity, fraud, and fascism are being reaped right before the summer dawns. Fox News Just Hammered the Final Nail in the Coffin of Trump's Election Lie…by court order! Fox News and parent company Fox Corp have agreed a $787.5m (£633m) settlement with voting machine firm Dominion, averting a high-profile defamation trial. The settlement was announced at the 11th hour, after the 12-person jury had been selected and just as both sides were due to deliver their opening statements in Delaware Superior Court. Meanwhile…even one GOP Party donor is feeling a little uncomfortable, despite his stash of pillows. "My Pillow" CEO Mike Lindell has been ordered to pay $5 million to an expert who debunked his data related to the 2020 election, according to a decision by the arbitration panel obtained by CNN…. In conclusion, all I have to say is – THIS SHIT - is freakin hilarious! It's a bummer, the Empire is in decline, and these are the last days of American Imperialism. I would find it more entertaining if we weren't standing off the precipice of dystopia with nuclear war, mass starvation, and accelerated state sponsored violence; mildly justified through unconstitutional and illegal surveillance of American citizens. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thomas-saulsberry/support

Openminded Join the Fight: www.TommyNationPolitics.com or write to us at www.Facebook.com/TommyNationPolitics “Shared psychosis”—which is also called “folie à millions” [“madness for millions”] when occurring at the national level or “induced delusions”—refers to the infectiousness of severe symptoms that goes beyond ordinary group psychology. When a highly symptomatic individual is placed in an influential position, the person's symptoms can spread through the population through emotional bonds, heightening existing pathologies and inducing delusions, paranoia, and propensity for violence—even in previously healthy individuals. The treatment is removal of exposure... Psychiatrists assess delusions through personal examination, but there is other evidence of their likelihood. Delusions are more infectious than strategic lies, and so we see, from them in sheer mass population spread, that Trump genuinely believes them himself. An even worse element, than believing pathological delusions of grandeur; narcissists like Trump or Biden usually lack integrity or conscience of character. These results frequently convey an overwhelming emotional fragility, manifested in extreme intolerance of realities that do not fit their wishful views regarding the world. In the case of Donald Trump, these imbalances predispose him to psychotic spirals, calls to implement destructive outcomes, and threats to various public figures. Public record includes numerous hours of interviews and interactions with other people—such as the hour-long one with the Georgia secretary of state—that very nearly confirm his delusional and paranoid state. With Trump and Biden regularly proving themselves not to either be morally or mentally fit, there is much research and psychological study to inform that such psychosis might have propensity for contagion, due to the cult-like bandwagon mentality mindset these two leaders of their respective political parties influence. Destructiveness is a core characteristic of mental pathology, whether directed toward the self or others. First, I wish to clarify that those with mental illness are, as a group, no more dangerous than those without mental illness. When mental pathology is accompanied by criminal-mindedness, however, the combination can make individuals far more dangerous than either alone. It's obvious, logical, natural, even mathematical that our civilization is going to collapse, that we have overshot the sustainable carrying capacity of the earth and ecosystem that supports us. But people are fed false hope by these two political parties. False promises, false positives, and magical faiths which extract your agency and distract you from your presence. Held captive by apathy, afraid of your own shadow... --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thomas-saulsberry/support

Most Americans believe our political system needs changes. Upwards of 85% of respondents say there is a need for major changes, including 42% who say our political system needs to be completely reformed. This sentiment holds true across party lines, with both 88% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning Independents and 83% of Republican and Republican-leaning Independents in support of change. Around half of Democrats (47%) want complete reform of the political system as compared to just 38% of Republicans. The desire for political reform also cuts across many of the other dividing lines in our country. While in many of the other countries surveyed, desire for political reform was tempered by how respondents viewed the economy — with people satisfied with the economy less likely to support political reform — this pattern does not extend to the U.S. Nearly equal numbers of economic pessimists and economic optimists favor political changes — 87% versus 82%, respectively. This gap in support is the smallest of any of the countries Pew surveyed. Similarly, both Americans who rate our pandemic response positively and Americans who rate it negatively also support political reform at near-equal levels. 83% of Americans who approve of our COVID-19 response also support political reform. Meanwhile, 88% of Americans who do not approve of our pandemic response support reform — a gap of only five percentage points. Again, this gap is the smallest of all the countries surveyed. No matter which way you cut it, Americans of all political persuasions and views want to see political reform. Even those who are generally satisfied with other aspects of American life (like the economy) are overwhelmingly in favor of changes. In a society as divided as ours seemingly is, this kind of consensus is rare. At the same time, Americans are not confident our politics can be effectively reformed. Even as Americans are nearly unanimous in their desire for political reform, most don't believe our political system can be effectively changed. 58% of Americans have little confidence that reform can be effective, which is more than twice the number of Americans who think the system can change. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thomas-saulsberry/support

President Biden has a new headache: He can't avoid the debate over whether the U.S. is in a recession, but if he dwells on it, he may hasten the very slowdown he's desperate to avoid... In economics, psychology matters. If the country and consumers believe we're in a recession — even if we technically aren't — the economy will eventually slow down, turning Biden's inflation problem into a potential stagflation nightmare. Presidents can't talk their way out of an economic downturn, but they do have a unique ability to set the general tone of the country. Biden, like his predecessors, likes to accentuate positive economic data. But with a 9.1% inflation rate and potentially two quarters of negative GDP growth, Biden can't push the glass-half-full argument too far. His initial sanguine call on inflation — insisting it would be short-term — has already eroded some of his credibility. Driving the news: On Thursday, the Commerce Department will release the initial GDP numbers for the second quarter of 2022, with economists expecting a 0.5% increase. Still, there are plenty of worrying signs: the Atlanta Fed's "nowcast" model suggests GDP growth will come in at -1.6%. Biden officials have been pre-butting the numbers and challenging the yeoman's definition that a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth, as Axios' Neil Irwin reported last week. "Certainly, in terms of the technical definition, it is not a recession," Brian Deese, the director of the National Economic Council, said on CNN on Monday morning. What they're saying: Biden on Monday again downplayed the recession risk... "My hope is we go from this rapid growth to steady growth and so we'll see some coming down," he said. "But I don't think, God willing, we're going to see a recession," he said. "I'll be surprised." --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thomas-saulsberry/support

When I think about gradualism, I do think about civil rights and domestic policy. As it pertains to civil rights, there have been positive changes, like the greater acceptance of our gay brothers and sisters and more awareness about how Black folks are more impacted by racism, classism, and police brutality. At the same time, many people died in the fight for equality. Also, as in the past, the people sounding the alarms against modern-day oppression are never popular. It takes years of messaging, activism, and first-hand experience for people to change their views for the better. A change in policies may be met with resistance, but these policies are sometimes more effective than other methods when enforced properly and quickly put into place. But gradual changes give people an excuse to cling to their prejudices and bad habits. These changes can also be easily undone and lead to more damage. For instance, some domestic issues, like the U.S. health care system, shouldn't be addressed with small, gradual changes, but may need a full overhaul. People are dying for lack of health insurance and that should concern us all. Some worldwide issues, like climate catastrophe, should be addressed now and with drastic changes to help us avoid the worst effects. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thomas-saulsberry/support

These conflicts arise when Christians turn from obeying worldly authorities toward following Jesus' authority. Therefore, evangelism entails power struggles and conflicts between Jesus and the world. This is why Jesus' all-encompassing authority is important in evangelism. Knowing that all authority is in Jesus' hands, we can be courageous in the face of conflicts. The first words in the Great Commission are “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me” and so Jesus' authority is the foundation of evangelism. This authority is not harsh or oppressive; it comes from God, allowing those who willingly submit to Jesus' authority to live an abundant life. Evangelism is in fact Christians witnessing Christ with their transformed lives, lives that are so attractive that people are drawn to believe. That is, they turn from pursuing the world's powers, money and status, and willingly submit to Jesus' authority. The primary objects of the Great Commission are “all nations” – people in the world. A 2014 Princeton political science study showed that government actions nearly always conform to the wishes of wealthy and powerful US elites. "Our central finding was this: Economic elites and interest groups can shape U.S. government policy — but Americans who are less well off have essentially no influence over what their government does," wrote co-authors Martin Gilens and Benjamin Page. America's oligarchical influence extends from healthcare and fossil fuels to the industry of war itself. American companies account for more than half of all arms sales worldwide. The Center for Responsive Politics reports that "in the past two decades, (the arms industry's) extensive network of lobbyists and donors have directed $285 million in campaign contributions and $2.5 billion in lobbying spending to influence defense policy." Arms manufacturers (more commonly known by the Orwellian appellation, "defense industry") shrewdly concentrate on hiring ex-government officials to advance their agenda and pump up their "ill-begotten gains." This ensures that their interests are represented by people who know the officials they're lobbying. Even more importantly, it puts those officials on notice that there is a lucrative future in store for them if they play along. Arms oligarchs have hired more than 200 lobbyists who, in the report's words, "have worked in the same government that regulates and decides funding for the industry." Arms manufacturers played a dominant role under Trump, but are also well-represented in the Biden Administration: While Biden has touted strict ethics rules that attempt to thwart the influence of lobbyists on the administration, several of his earliest appointees, including Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken consulted for a private equity firmthat emphasized its "access, network and expertise" in the defense industry. Austin also had a seat on the United Technologies and Raytheon board, earning more than $250,000 from the now merged companies. "Ill-Begotten Gains" It's not just the arms industry, of course. Other oligarchs have bilked the people of the United States in more creative ways. Jeff Bezos built his Amazon empire off his ability to sell products online without charging sales tax. This government-granted loophole made him an oligarch, a position he has used to further cement his power and influence. He has purchased the most influential paper in the nation's capital—an oligarch's move if there ever was one—while constantly extending his monopolistic power into new markets.. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thomas-saulsberry/support

A MODERATE DEMOCRATIC PARTY: “Covid-19 Is Rewriting the Rules of Corporate Governance…”

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 15, 2022 69:57

Since the onset of Covid-19, corporate boards have faced a string of difficult decisions. Take the question of dividend payments: Ordinarily, the decision would be a relatively straightforward matter of applying a stated dividend policy, following past practice, or choosing an amount based on shareholder expectations and the company's earnings for the period. But this year, with Covid-19 decimating the economy and looming uncertainty about the depth and duration of the crisis, the decision became a complex matter of weighing and balancing multiple factors — at least for companies flush enough to consider it at all. Boardroom dividend discussions ranged over a series of considerations: the equity and symbolism of returning cash to shareholders at a time when employees were being laid off or furloughed; the potential future opportunities gained (or lost) by following (or going against) government calls for dividend cuts; the reputational and signaling effects of maintaining versus suspending or reducing the dividend; the expectations of shareholders and the proportion reliant on dividend income; the company's cash position and strategic plans; and what would be prudent in the face of extreme uncertainty. A decision that would typically require only a few minutes of board discussion — if that — became an hour-long (or more) deliberation. And then there was the discussion about how to explain the decision in the company's public communications. In the end, some boards decided to maintain the dividend. Others decided to suspend or reduce it. In the U.K. and Europe, where policy makers and central banks urged cuts, the major banks and many companies followed their guidance. In the U.S., most of the large banks committed to maintaining their dividends, though authorities and experts disagreed about the wisdom of that choice. Whatever the final decision, however, the process of reaching it was far from straightforward. This is just one example of the reality that boards are facing as a result of Covid-19. The new environment is characterized by an increasingly complex set of pressures and demands from various stakeholder groups, heightened expectations for societal engagement and corporate citizenship, and radical uncertainty about the future. These factors are complicating board decision-making and challenging the shareholder-centric model of governance that has guided boards and business leaders for the past several decades. The shareholder-centric model, which is based on what academics call “agency theory,” appears to be giving way to a richer model of governance that puts the health and resilience of the company at its center. The pandemic has made all too clear that society depends on well-functioning companies to meet its most basic needs — for food, shelter, communication, you name it — and that companies do not exist solely to maximize returns to shareholders. It follows that boards, which by law are a company's governing body, should be concerned not just with returns to shareholders, but with the full range of factors that enable the company to create value over time. Paradoxically, this enlarged purview does not diminish boards' accountability to shareholders, but it does imply changes in the nature and scope of that accountability. Whether Covid-19 is truly an inflection point for corporate governance is yet to be seen, but there is no doubt that the pandemic has challenged core premises of the agency-based model of governance in ways that have important implications for boards. In this article, I discuss several of these challenges and suggest five ways the board's job is likely to change in the post-Covid era. As boards go through their annual self-assessment process, they will want to review their capabilities and readiness in each of these areas. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thomas-saulsberry/support

Still, Biden advised skeptics to withhold judgment until a state with a large pool of Black voters, the most reliable Democratic constituency, had a chance to weigh in. “Too often your loyalty, your commitment, your support for this party has been taken for granted,” he said. “I give you my word as a Biden that I never, ever, ever will.” Now, one year into his presidency, Biden is hoping he can maintain the support of Black voters, even as his failure to deliver on voting rights legislation and other issues has left some loyalists dispirited. Of the many challenges he confronts as he enters his second year, few are as important as retaining the strong backing from his party's base… Black voters delivered, recasting the Democratic contest and sending Biden on his way to the White House. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thomas-saulsberry/support

Her second amendment codifies the ‘Biden Ethics Pledge,' as laid out in the President's Executive Order, here.  This executive order was unprecedented in its strength and the amendment ensures no future president can revoke it. Rep. How would a person describe the time in which we live? Typically, this era in human development is referred to as a time of globalization. However, without the communications technology that came about in the 1990s, globalization on this magnitude would have been impossible. The rhetoric, according to author Robert McChesney in his article “Global Media, Neoliberalism, and Imperialism”, is that all people need to do is “sit back, shut up, and shop…”. McChesney goes on to explain that there exists a superior term to describe the trends we have observed over the past decades and that title is “Neoliberalism”. Neoliberalism is a set of national and international policies that requires corporate and business domination of all social affairs and little societal opposition. According to McChesney, “Governments are to remain large so as to better serve corporate interests, while minimizing any activities that might undermine the rule of business and the wealthy.” What the author goes on to describe as the centerpiece of Neoliberal policies is the “…call for commercial media and communication markets to be deregulated.” Before the 1990's, national media systems were typically domestically owned stations. But today, the global media market is dominated by only 7 multinational corporations: Disney, AOL-Time Warner, Sony, News Corporation, Viacom, Vivendi, and Bertelsmann. What McChesney tries to indicate is that none of these companies existed in their current form fifteen years ago. Furthermore, on several occasions, national media deregulation has preceded more general market deregulations, such as in the case of the creation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Over the course of my own research, I will track how the media has been used to support specific neoliberal practices, whether through media deregulation leading to broader market deregulation, or through social advocacy of neoliberal policies. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thomas-saulsberry/support

To secure the support of moderate Democrats, the “Party Leaders” have included provisions that restore a lucrative tax break, former President Donald Trump slashed, in his signature 2017 tax law. As this was occurring, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) oversaw the passage of the filibuster-proof $1.75 billion budget reconciliation package. Breitbart News & Al Jazeera explained how the state and local tax provision in the bill would represent a windfall for the wealthy on the backs of the middle class; as well as gut student loan reform, ultimately silencing tangible hope of loan forgiveness and debt relief… People are not truly free when they are unable to feed their family. People are not truly free when they are unable to retire with dignity. People are not truly free when they are unemployed or underpaid or when they are exhausted by working long hours. THE CORRUPT AND IMMORAL AGENCY… The American taxpayers have been fleeced for almost seventy years by a so-called «intelligence» agency that has systematically violated the US Constitution, broken practically every federal law on the books, and penetrated virtually every facet of American life. The Central Intelligence Agency's creation was bemoaned by its creator, President Harry S Truman, who, in a fit of personal angst following the 1963 assassination of President John F Kennedy, wrote in a newspaper column, «I never had any thought that when I set up the CIA that it would be injected into peacetime cloak and dagger operations… I, therefore, would like to see the CIA be restored to its original assignment… and that its operational duties be terminated or properly used elsewhere». During a presidential election year, two of the three remaining major candidates – Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump – have given no indication that they will heed the words of President Truman. For example, Trump has indicated he will give the CIA authority to torture that even the CIA considers illegal. As for Mrs Clinton, her zeal in supporting the violent overthrow and assassination of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 only gives added impetus to the out-of-control players inside the CIA to commit similar actions in a Clinton administration. Only Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders appears to channel the beliefs of Truman when it comes to reining in the CIA. It is not known whether Trump, who has made favorable noises to interventionist neo-conservatives within the Republican Party, will stand by his comments that the war in Libya was a mistake. But Trump was one of the cheerleaders urging US intervention in 2011. He said, «Gaddafi in Libya is killing thousands of people, nobody knows how bad it is, and we're sitting around. We have soldiers all over the Middle East and not bringing them to stop this horrible carnage… We don't want to get involved and you're going to end up with something like you've never seen before». Trump, Mrs Clinton, and Obama were wrong about Libya and Gaddafi on all counts. Gaddafi was not killing «thousands of people». That was being done by the jihadist rebels supported by the CIA. The late US ambassador/weapons smuggler in Libya, Christopher Stevens, who was ironically killed by the very same jihadists with whom he was brokering deals to ship Libyan weapons to Syria, ensured that the latest NATO weaponry ended up in radical Islamist hands in Libya. It was these weapons that killed «thousands of people» – Libyan and African guest workers and their families – in a country wracked by a civil war manufactured by Mrs. Clinton and CIA director General David Petraeus. The CIA, in particular, had for decades, fantasized about overthrowing Gaddafi. Never did this most incompetent of US government agencies suspect the outcome that occurred from their interference and meddling.... INTRO The Quarantine Speech was given by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt on October 5, 1937 in Chicago (on the occasion of the dedication of the bridge between north and south outer Lake Shore Drive), calling for an international "quarantine" against the "epidemic of world lawlessness" by aggressive nations as an alternative to the political climate of American neutrality and non-intervention that was prevalent at the time. The speech intensified America's isolationist mood, causing protest by non-interventionists and foes to intervene. No countries were directly mentioned in the speech, although it was interpreted as referring to the Empire of Japan, the Kingdom of Italy, and Nazi Germany.[1] Roosevelt suggested the use of economic pressure, a forceful response, but less direct than outright aggression. Public response to the speech was mixed. Famed cartoonist Percy Crosby, creator of Skippy (comic strip) and very outspoken Roosevelt critic, bought a two-page advertisement in the New York Sun to attack it.[2] In addition, it was heavily criticized by Hearst-owned newspapers and Robert R. McCormick of the Chicago Tribune, but several subsequent compendia of editorials showed overall approval in US media.[3] Roosevelt realized the impact that those witting in favor of isolationism had on the nation. He hoped that the storm isolationists' created would fade away and allow the general public to become educated and even active in international policy. [4] However, this was not the response that grew over time, in fact, it ended up intensifying isolationism views in more Americans.[5] Roosevelt even mentioned in two personal letters written on October 16, 1937, that "he was 'fighting against a public psychology which comes very close to saying 'peace at any price.'"'[6] Disappointed in how the public reacted to the speech, Roosevelt decided to take a step back with regards to his foreign policy. Even to the point of accepting an apology from Japan after the sinking of the USS Panay… I'm summary…. War is a contagion, whether it be declared or undeclared. It can engulf states and peoples remote from the original scene of hostilities. We are determined to keep out of war, yet we cannot insure ourselves against the disastrous effects of war and the dangers of involvement. We are adopting such measures as will minimize our risk of involvement, but we cannot have complete protection in a world of disorder in which confidence and security have broken down. If civilization is to survive the principles of the Prince of Peace must be restored. Trust between nations must be revived. Most important of all, the will for peace on the part of peace-loving nations must express itself to the end that nations that may be tempted to violate their agreements and the rights of others will desist from such a course. There must be positive endeavors to preserve peace. America hates war. America hopes for peace. By the thousands, U.S. service members are refusing or putting off the Covid-19 vaccine as frustrated commanders scramble to knock down internet rumors and find the "RIGHT PITCH" that will persuade troops to get the shot. Some Army units are seeing as few as one-third agree to the vaccine. Military leaders searching for answers believe they have identified one potential convincer: an imminent deployment. Navy sailors on ships heading out to sea last week, for example, were choosing to take the shot at rates exceeding 80 percent to 90 percent. Air Force Maj. Gen. Jeff Taliaferro, vice director of operations for the Joint Staff, told Congress on Wednesday that “very early data” suggests that just up to two-thirds of the service members offered the vaccine have accepted. “We cannot make it mandatory yet,” Vice Adm. Andrew Lewis, commander of the Navy’s 2nd Fleet, said last week. “I can tell you we’re probably going to make it mandatory as soon as we can, just like we do with the flu vaccine.” About 40 Marines gathered recently in a California conference room for an information session from medical staff. One officer, who was not authorized to publicly discuss private conversations and spoke on condition of anonymity, said Marines are more comfortable posing questions about the vaccine in smaller groups. The officer said one Marine, citing a widely circulated and false conspiracy theory, said: “I heard that this thing is actually a tracking device.” The medical staff, said the officer, quickly debunked that theory, and pointed to the Marine’s cellphone, noting that it’s an effective tracker. Other frequent questions revolved around possible side effects or health concerns, including for pregnant women.
