But before long it became clear that in order to build a sustainable business, and not go crazy, we need to get the right team in place around us. What I'm going to discuss in today's episode came from a suggestion from listener Kathryn - @aguideto_socialmedia who has been struggling to convince her clients of the value of lower production value DIY videos as part of their strategy. Now, don't get me wrong. There is absolutely a critical place in an effective full funnel video strategy for professional video production. Just as you wouldn't try to sign write your own car, print your own business cards or sew your own staff uniforms, allocating a percentage of your marketing budget each year to professional video content is a must. However, for so many businesses there is so much untapped VALUE to be gained by embracing DIY video content across an organisation. There's no ignoring the rising impact that vertical-first, short form video social platforms are having on the world of video marketing. Businesses are fast shifting their perspective of TikTok from being a teenage dancing, trend hopping, viral shopping, flash in a pan to now seeing it's increasing value as an advertising platform with under-indexed audiences ready to target with their advertising dollar. But as video producers, how should we be thinking about advertising creative for TikTok? What role can we have in helping our clients get an ROI from the platform, and really, is TikTok the new Facebook? All that and more in today's episode… and it's a good ‘un. Let's get stuck in. In this episode we cover: A short intro to Maxwell and what got him into digital advertising, specifically TikTok. What's the opportunity right now for brands on TikTok. And, as a Video Strategist, our role for our clients is often to help them gain this clarity too. And it all starts with a hedgehog. Recently in my Accredited Video Strategist Program, we've been working a lot on gaining clarity on audiences and particularly positioning our Video Strategy businesses in the right way for the right types of clients, and it's really interesting to me how we all have different views on the type of business we're aiming to build and who we are wanting to work with. But let me tell you, the clarity, and growth from that clarity that is coming out through the program over the last few weeks has been seriously awesome to see. So in this episode, I'm going to share with you an approach you can take to getting super clear what your business is all about, and in particular what type of clients and projects you will want to attract to work with you. Have you ever wondered what it takes to build an audience, and then a business using TikTok? The fact is that the idea of what a social media influencer is today, is quite different to the early days of influencers and the path to building a business based off you, your content and your personality is available to everyone. But there is some secret sauce and that's what we're going to learn more about in today's episode. Known as ‘That British Girl', Jordana Grace is a Comedy Content Strategist. She's a writer, speaker, comedian and amateur croissant connoisseur. She continually pursues her love of making people laugh, spending her days highly caffeinated creating comedic masterpieces for various brands and charities through her own company. She is also incredibly humble. On TikTok, her series ‘Things they should tell you before coming to Australia' has become an international hit with tourists and Aussies alike. And even created a course on ‘How to move to Australia', to help people around the world move to paradise. The Australian public has embraced her dry British humour with open arms, even though she keeps questioning their ways.  As that British girl in Australia, she's living her best life. Whether that's looking for a husband without a mullet (dramatically decreasing the list of potential Aussie suitors) or searching for that perfect croissant – it's safe to say she's made a home down under.

About 2018/19 I first started paying a little bit of attention to this thing called the Blockchain. Didn't make a lot of sense to me, but I'm usually keen to understand new technology so I jumped in and tried to make what sense of it I could. I even bought a little bit of bitcoin back when it was around 3-4000. Today, it's over 50K. That was it though, and I didn't really do much more, until mid-last year I first started hearing about this thing called Web3, and non fungible tokens, people like Gary Vee speaking launching NFTs and I realised maybe this is something to pay more attention to. And over the course of this year so far I've begun (only just) to realise the big shift that decentralisation and blockchain technology is going to have on, well, everything. Including video production and marketing, so that's where I want to go with you today. I'm seriously fired up for this conversation you're about the hear. And for any business that is built around a team, community, or serving an audience making those connections easier, and more human is critical. So, the question is then, why is so much of our digital communication done through text? As humans we're simply more ourselves, face to face, so why can't that be the norm online? Tim is an absolute legend in the world of YouTube strategy helping his clients organically earn over 15 billion views and 61 million subscribers. He has been featured by Fox, Forbes, BBC and even YouTube.  Josh Little is a teacher turned serial tech entrepreneur with quite a track record–two exits in the first five years, four successful tech companies, and now hundreds of millions of users.  He's currently on a mission to bring more connection and community in the world with his latest product, Volley–a video messaging app. In this episode we cover: The downside Tim sees in communicating via email, slack, and zoom.  What changed when he first discovered Volley, and asynchronous video messaging. What problem is Volley setting out to fix? A description of the platform, and how people are using it. The challenges that come up when teams or communities adopt video in this way. Why is this way of communicating better. How Tim sees Volley making a difference in his business moving forward. Is now a ‘perfect storm' kind of situation that makes Volley a no-brainer? (pandemic, shift to remote teams, acceptance of video comms, desire for human connection) For business owners (not creators or coaches), what opportunity is there for Volley? What's the roadmap? How are you dealing with the data available around your video strategy? Is it a case of every now and then just opening your analytics trunk, poke around a bit, and then close it back up again? Or do you get overwhelmed by it all, and metaphorically sweep it under a rug? Or perhaps you're handpicking a few bits of data that you can make sense of, and simply letting the rest pass you by? The fact is that understanding the data, and setting things up to effectively measure and interpret that data can be your video marketing secret weapon. So this is an episode you won't want to miss. In this episode we're going to be talking about corporate videos and the stigma wrapped around it. Are you really resigned to the idea that your videos will be talking heads and b-roll, stock music and a couple of carefully placed slow motion footsteps down a corridor? Do all corporate videos basically fit the same mold? My guest today is Guy Bauer, Founder and Creative Director of Umault, an agency that makes wildly creative B2B video marketing campaigns people actually want to watch.  Guy has been making commercial videos for over 20 years and is the author of Death to the Corporate Video: A Modern Approach that Works. He started the agency in 2010 after a decade of working in TV, film, and radio. Umault's goal is to make sure an amazing product or service stands out in a sea of mediocre content. Guy believes that in video marketing, the idea is everything and his fleet of creatives and producers excels at shepherding an idea through the entire process, from concepting to scripting through to delivery of the final videos. When he isn't helping his clients tell a story that resonates and delights while hitting all of their key messages and business prompts, Guy enjoys spending time at his home in Chicago with his two young children and kicking himself for being a Cincinnati Bengals fan. As a video producer, should we be working to grow our own YouTube channel? And if so, what should we be publishing in order to actually grow our business? That's the conversation we're having today with the owner of a successful video production company who has also built her own channel to over 110K subscribers, and as a result, business is booming. When Jenn Jager started Plum Productions Video, she had a vision: a woman owned business where projects began with a collaborative spirit between creatives and clients.   In the past decade, Plum Productions has grown into one of South Florida's busiest production houses, with clients ranging from SAKS 5TH Avenue, Newell Brands (makers of Oster, Mr. Coffee, Sunbeam and others), and the University of Michigan. In 2018, Jenn started her own YouTube channel where she gives tips on video marketing strategies. Her audience has swelled to 100,000 subscribers from every corner of the world.  In March of 2021, she launched a new channel, “Jenn Jager Pro Tutorials” which is solely focused on helping editors sharpen their Final Cut Pro and Apple Motion skills.
