I received a DM last week asking what to do if you can't stop comparing yourself to other people so I have came up with a big chat on all things comparison including 3 tips to help you actually stop comparing yourself to others. One of my favourite quotes is comparison is the thief of all joy. Stop comparing yourself to others, easier said than done especially with the world of social media being a highlight reel of fast cars, lean cores, big businesses, seemingly perfect relationships and the cutest new handbags or outfits. It really comes down to a perspective shift. I don't look at people doing well as a challenge or competition, I look at them with them inspired by the fact that what they've accomplished is actually possible. Understand that there is a huge difference in energy and outcome between seeing other people's success and using that vision to inspire you, versus beating yourself up because you're not where they are. Mantra: “I am on the right track and on my own, unique path to building a life and career I love and am proud of. I am NOT behind. I didn't want to edit out the start of this because I like to keep it real. Ross and I were trying not to keep laughing! Definitely keen for lockdown to end and gyms to open again. BUT today's chat is actually really serious in terms of maximizing the results you get from your workouts. -Mindset towards training (I get to, not I have to) -Tracking progress (have a system to ensure progression) -Timing rest periods -Breathing (breathing in & out at the right time, not breathing properly may lead to feeling light headed/short of breath, breathe out on contraction and in on extension) -Form > weight -Mind muscle connection The research is clear: you get more activation when you're thinking about the working muscle. By bringing consciousness to the area you're targeting, you're directing more neural drive to the muscle, which increases tension and activation. In addition to increasing activation, it increases metabolic stress. If you neglect the mind-muscle connection, meaning you're not thinking about activating your glutes when you perform exercises that involve the glutes, you work your glutes less, and other synergistic muscles, like your quads and hamstrings, compensate so that you can carry out the task (lift the weight). A number of studies have shown greater activation when you think about contracting the muscle you're trying to target. -Sleep 7-9 hours -Food as fuel -Music/Podcasts/Motivational speeches -Cute Outfit/Proper shoes etc If you enjoyed this please share it with someone you think might enjoy it. Such a pleasure to have Sam on the podcast today! She was just 13 when she was a finalist in the Top 6 for Girlfriend Model Search Competition which kicked off her modelling career. She was on the Vogue cover at 19 as the second Indigenous woman to do so. We are not just born with a crazy amount of self-discipline. It is a learned behaviour which is a good thing because it means that you CAN improve and progress. Discipline has a big connection to happiness. In this podcast we explain why building discipline is important (4 benefits of it) along with 7 tips to help you achieve better self discipline. IT TAKES TIME. According to a 2013 study by Wilhelm Hoffman, people with high self control are happier than those without. The study discovered this is true because the self disciplined subjects were more capable of dealing with goal conflicts. These people spent less time debating whether to indulge in behaviours detrimental to their health, and were able to make positive decisions more easily. The self disciplined did not allow their choices to be dictated by impulses or feelings. Instead, they made informed, rational decisions on a daily basis without feeling overly stressed or upset.
