Send us a textIn this episode, I share my top 5 strategies for effective rest and recovery between workouts. As someone who used to believe that more is better when it comes to exercise, I've learned the hard way that proper rest and recovery are crucial for progress and avoiding overtraining. The 5 key strategies I cover include:Staying active on rest days through low-intensity activities like walking, rather than complete rest. Doing bodyweight exercises focused on proper form and range of motion, to maintain muscle-building signals.Prioritizing mobility work to improve flexibility and joint health.Emphasizing the importance of quality sleep for recovery and overall wellbeing.Dedicating time to plan and prepare nutritious meals, rather than relying on quick, less healthy options.I share my personal experiences and insights to highlight how these strategies can make a significant difference in fitness progress and overall health. If you enjoyed the episode, I would appreciate if you could share it with one of your friends and leave a 5-star rating in iTunes and Spotify. Rest days are crucial in a training for women over age 40 for several reasons:1. Muscle Recovery- Exercise causes micro-tears in muscle fibers. Rest allows these fibers to repair and grow stronger.2. Prevention of Injury- Continuous training without rest increases the risk of overuse injuries, such as stress fractures, tendonitis, and joint pain.3. Mental Break- Rest days help prevent burnout, keeping the mind fresh and motivated.4. Hormonal Balance- Overtraining can disrupt hormone levels, leading to fatigue, poor sleep, and mood swings.5. Performance Improvement- Adequate rest can enhance overall performance by allowing the body to fully recover and adapt to the training stimuli.General Rest Day Recommendations: Take at least one to two full rest days every 7-10 days. These can include light activities such as walking, stretching, or yoga.Listen to your body! Pay attention to signs of overtraining, such as prolonged muscle soreness, fatigue, or decreased performance, and adjust rest days accordingly."There is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle."Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fit.nutritionist?igsh=MTJqZXhjODR2ZzduaA%3D%3D&utm_source=qrFollow me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Casey.Young.RD.CPT?mibextid=LQQJ4dClick here for services: https://inspirehw.com/

Episode 59. Rest DaysRest Days. Their essential to every athlete. In fact, great running is dependent on great recovery. So, why do we have such a hard time taking the rest we need? Why are we so bad at recovery? Maybe it's because we're looking at rest and recovery the wrong ways. Maybe we're being told the wrong things about work and workloads. Maybe we're not being told the right things. Well, my hope is that this episode helps a little bit. Because we have a rest and recovery problem.
