In today's episode of Psych Talk I chat with Pam Covarrubias, a podcaster, speaker, and coach, about Calladita Culture. Pam discusses what Calladita Culture is - part of the system that has kept women small, quiet, and unaccomplished - and describes how root of Calladita Culture is Machismo and Marianismo as taught in Latin America. We discuss how these messages are passed down to women and girls of various cultures, the impact of these messages on mental health, and how these messages are damaging for women and femmes. Pam discusses her own healing from Calladita Culture and how she helps other women and femmes heal too through inner child work and EFT, also known as "tapping". Additionally, Pam ends the episode with an invitation for women who have been subject to Calladita Culture, or cultures similar, to take the first step in their healing journey. Arizona State Representative Rusty Bowers was recently attacked by Donald Trump during a speech the former President was giving at a rally. Trump called him a RINO (Republican In Name Only) and a coward for his refusal to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Arizona. Bowers, who also serves as Speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives and is a life-long Republican, fired back during an interview and said that there was absolutely no proof of any kind of tampering or election fraud found in the state of Arizona. Bowers went on to say that Trump has no clue what the average American goes through every day in order to make ends meet and has no idea what real courage is. Rick Sanchez is joined by Podcaster and life coach Pam Covarrubias as they discuss different ways to not allow outside negative influences to affect your day-to-day attitudes and performance. Sanchez and Covarrubias agree that it is always good to stand up and defend yourself against bullies who try to disparage or denounce you. Even if the bully in question happens to be a former President of the United States. Score one for the "little guy."

Being an entrepreneur is more than a job, it's a lifestyle. It takes up your mental space and drains you of energy even more if the business isn't going well. But there are ways to prevent this from happening or at least lessen the effects of being an entrepreneur. One way to do this is through the Emotional Freedom Technique. Pam shares what is EFT and how to do it. EFT has been used to lessen anxiety, worry, doubt, and the best thing is it free and can be done anywhere. In this episode, learn more about EFT and how it can help you in your life today.
In this episode, expect to hear a bit of Pam's journey as an immigrant Mexican living in a mostly white midwest town of the USA. She moved as an international student, speaking Spanish, not fitting in, but discovered ways to not only survive and fit in, but to thrive and build opportunities that helped her to this very day. Her stories are amazing and the lessons even more incredible. Pam Covarrubias: Owning her Story with Creative Grace, Curiosity & Service So excited to share this brilliant, beautiful bilingual hermana! Pam is an Intuitive Brand Builder, Certified Life Coach and EFT Practitioner- and all around wise woman supporting mujeres to own their stories and align with their purpose! Growing up surrounded by art and music, Pam shares her story from Mexico to the US, from wanting to be an architect to becoming a graphic designer to Intuitive Brand builder, Life and business coach, podcaster of the award-winning Cafe Con Pam and EFT Practitioner healer. Her relaying allows us to experience through her story how our talents and gifts are intertwined in everything we do. Pam asked herself, “What skills do I have now that I can make money from?” and her skills assessment brought her on to the Brand Strategist path. The idea that nothing is a waste of time, our experiences invite us to connect with our inner gifts and resources. Pam shares her moment where she felt she “made it” and breaking thru the generational trauma around older rich white male authority figures. Listening to podcasts she asked herself,” where are the people who look like me? Who speak two languages? Where are the deeper stories? Where are the Latinx podcasts?” How “Cafe Con Pam” podcast was born. How sharing our sexual harassment, fighting machismo and daring to speak out truth is truly part of our empowerment journey as mujeres. The transparent thread that connects us through generations. Pam drops some wisdom on creating your podcast! We could do a podcast about this! Episode 083. "Friction allows for a lot of growth if you're open to it." ~Pam Covarrubias Are you using your podcast for personal growth? Are you using it to help your listeners grow? This episode is part of our self-care for podcasters series, which is a companion to our “not your typical self-care” series over on The Creative Impostor. I recently had podcaster, conscious productivity coach, EFT practitioner, and founder of the PowerSisters Method, Pam Covarrubias on episode 125. And when I asker her how PowerSisters get matched, she brought up the idea of friction as a component to success and growth. At first internally I was like — EEK! No no no — when we build community we want to surround ourselves with like-minded individuals who align with our values and I started to get that old school day anxiety of being partnered up for a project with someone I didn’t like or didn’t know… But then... It really got me thinking about how friction applies to podcasting. And so Pam inspired this WHOLE episode of Podcast Envy. On one hand, I think podcasting is an EXCELLENT tool for personal growth for the show host, the listeners, and even guests. On the other hand, we have a huge “silo” problem in podcasting. Podcast hosts bring guests on the show who think like them to talk about topics they agree on from similar points of view and then share that conversation with an audience of people who also nod their heads in agreement and take notes. But where then, is the growth in that? Still with me? Listen to the episode to get my 5 tips for inserting more functional friction into your process to help you make a better podcast. Episode 125. "Being glued to your chair, to your computer, to your phone doesn't necessarily equal productivity. ~Pam Covarrubias Productivity and self-care may sound like contrary pursuits. Still, if anyone can combine these classic opposites into an uncommon but cohesive practice, it's podcaster, conscious productivity coach, and recovering procrastinator Pam Covarrubias. Heads up: This episode makes liberal use of a “b” word, an “s” word, and an “f” word. Intrigued? Fabulous! Although the language doesn't get nearly as salty as you might imagine (what, precisely, are you imaging?), the episode does provide a few choice words, courtesy of Pam, to add to your self-care arsenal. Fire away the next time you need to make space for productivity. Once you've made some breathing room, it's time to supercharge those tasks and lean into some reciprocal encouragement. For that, you're going to need a PowerSister. No, not a blood relative. No, not even a close friend (don't despair, it's for a good reason). Learn what a PowerSister is and how to find one in this episode and then head over to last year's Podcast Envy conversation where Pam and I chat more extensively about her show Café con Pam. Listeners, this week we're back with Kimberly Bautista.Kimberly is a Colombian-American award-winning writer, director, and producer. Her feature-length documentary “Justice for My Sister” about one Guatemalan woman’s determination to hold her sister’s killer accountable was broadcast on PBS Stations and TeleSUR. Part of an international campaign with UN Women throughout Latin America to end violence against women, the film encouraged audiences to break the silence about abuse. This laid the groundwork for Kimberly to found an arts nonprofit to train women of color, gender nonconforming youth, and former foster youth to make films, heal through storytelling, and overcome financial barriers to entering the TV and film industries.Kimberly’s comedic pilot The “SweetSpot”—about a group of friends who contend with modern-day adulthood and an unconventional love triangle—premiered at the 2017 Outfest Fusion Film Festival. She’s directed 6 music videos for feminist hip hop artists, over 30 short social justice documentaries, 6 branded content spots, and co-wrote a short film about machismo in Latino families, accumulating over 22 million views.Kimberly’s magical realism TV pilot script about women’s power to heal “Elemental Powers” was presented as a stage reading at The Second City’s LA Diversity in Comedy Festival. Kimberly’s feature film in development about a 13-year-old girl who’s secretly in a punk-ska-cumbia band against her parents’ wishes “19.99 Plus Tax” was invited to Cine Qua Non Lab’s screenwriting residency in Mexico.Kimberly has received fellowships from Brown Girls Doc Mafia, HOLA Mexico Film Festival, HBO, the National Association of Latino Independent Producers, Ford Foundation, and several U.S. Embassies. Episode 066. “I think there's a ton more opportunities for people to raise their voice, to speak up, to really show up for whatever cause it is that moves them.” ~Pam Covarrubias Two things I learned from my conversation with Pam Covarrubias of the podcast Cafe con Pam. One: No one said your pivot had to be a tidy 180º. Two: Replace hustle and grind with grace and compassion; you'll tap into reservoirs of creativity, connection, and productivity. As an ex-corporate brand strategist, current business and productivity coach, community-maker, recovering procrastinator, and popular LatinX podcaster, Pam has proven those lessons. Often simultaneously. Never without enhancing her ability to connect. Over a hundred episodes later, Cafe con Pam (like the rest of us) has found itself during a pandemic. So what's an entrepreneur with dozens of episodes recorded pre-COVID-19 to do? She placed those shows on hold and began recording new interviews with a more immediate focus. A sound pivot. She also committed to showing up more often for her audience. Another solid choice in a time of crisis. Then Pam opted to introduce her audience to EFT* or tapping on her podcast and IG Live. Spoiler alert: Pam's audience needed her to show up precisely as she did and continues to do. Lessons learned. Podcasting is about telling a story. Whether your podcast is in an interview format, or any other format, the driving force behind the appeal is the story it tells. So what if you can't find any stories you can relate to? Or hear any stories coming from people that look like you? You tell your own story. Welcome to Should I Start A Podcast where each week Ronsley Vaz, with the help of a star-studded entrepreneurial guest lineup, explores why you should start a podcast, build an audience, and how to keep them hungry for more. If you're thinking about starting a podcast or simply looking for a better way to get your message out to your audience, then this is the podcast for you. In this episode of Should I Start a Podcast, Ronsely has a thoughtful conversation with Pam Covarrubias, creator of SpreadIdeasMovePeople.com and host of the Cafe con Pam Podcast. Pam grew up knowing how to sell, thanks to the innovation of her mother, who started her own ceramics store and factory when Pam was a young girl. Even though her marketing game was naturally strong, Pam longed to do more than just sell, she wanted to share her story. After falling in love with podcasts while travelling for work, Pam realized most of the people she was listening to were white men interviewing white people. Longing for diversity and relatability, Pam realized if she wasn't hearing stories from women of colour, she'd have to tell her own. It took three years, but after an offer of audio help from a music producer friend, Cafe con Pam was born. Even the title of her podcast encompasses her Latino roots, as it's a play on the Spanish phrase “cafe con pan” meaning coffee with bread. Pam and Ronsley muse over the importance of diversity in the podcast world, as well as finding the confidence to tell your own story and carve out your own niche that creates a sense of inclusivity for others who may be feeling excluded. Also within this episode: Where Pam's natural sense of selling comes from The difference between an artist and a creative Why it took Pam three years to start her podcast How it all started with a picture on a vision board Why thinking of her Grandmother erases Pam's self-doubt Links: SpreadIdeasMovePeople.com Pam on LinkedIn Pam on Twitter Pam on Instagram

FavyFav and Babelito of the Latinos Who Lunch podcast joined us to talk about the behind-the-scenes of creating a podcast, the rise of faux brujas a.k.a. cultural appropriation, if and how they embrace their inner bruja. They even opened up about why at first they chose to use nicknames instead of using their real names when launching and how liberating it's been in committing to being vulnerable on the show. This honest conversation on culture, politics, and importance of visibility in the podcast world might leave you hungry for more. Check them out at Latinos Who Lunch for more and listen to their podcast! #supportbrownpodcasts Shoutout to Pam Covarrubias from the Cafe con Pam Podcast and the FEMININE Podcast By The Modern Curandera, both available on iTunes.
