A atual legislação diz que o usuário que portar drogas deve ser advertido, prestar serviços à comunidade ou comparecer a um programa ou a um curso educativo. Speak English Now Podcast: Learn English | Speak English without grammar.
Today we will continue the accent reduction exercise with some fun tongue twisters in English. And with the help of a point-of-view story, you will learn grammar in context without memorizing any boring rules. Hi, everybody! I am Georgiana, your English teacher and founder of SpeakEnglishPodcast.com. My mission is to help you speak English fluently. Do you know how you can help me? You can share the podcast with your friends and family. Tell them to go to SpeakEnglishPodcast.com and get my free mini-course. That would mean a lot to me. Thanks. Oh, by the way, remember that you can check out the transcript on my website: speakenglishpodcast.com/podcast Ok, let's start! Last week we started this accent reduction exercise by focusing on the S sound with the help of some fun tongue twisters. So, let's remember the tongue twisters we used last week to help you improve your English pronunciation. I will go fast, but if you want to practice them, you can do so by listening to the previous episode on my website. Listen and repeat: #1 I saw Esau kissing Kate. I saw Esau, he saw me, and she saw I saw Esau. #2 Santa's Short Suit Shrunk. #3 You cuss, I cuss, we all cuss for asparagus. #4 Thin sticks, thick bricks. #5 Systematically assisting Sisyphus's stealthy cyst-susceptible sister. I hope you're having fun. Let's practice with new tongue twisters. Are you ready? Let's go! I will start saying each tongue twister slowly, and then I will go faster. At first, they may seem very difficult, so make sure you have the text in front of you to be able to follow it better. Ok. So, I will say it very slowly: 1. She saw Sharif's shoes on the sofa. But was she so sure those were Sharif's shoes she saw? Now I will say it faster. She saw Sharif's shoes on the sofa. But was she so sure those were Sharif's shoes she saw? Ok. Even faster! She saw Sharif's shoes on the sofa. But was she so sure those were Sharif's shoes she saw? Let's continue! 2) The chic Sikh's sixty-sixth sheep is sick. Let's say it faster! The chic Sikh's sixty-sixth sheep is sick. Even faster! The chic Sikh's sixty-sixth sheep is sick. 3) There's a pessimistic pest amidst us. Ok. Say it faster! There's a pessimistic pest amidst us. Even faster! There's a pessimistic pest amidst us. 4) Which witch switched the Swiss wristwatches? Say it faster! Which witch switched the Swiss wristwatches? Can you say it faster? Which witch switched the Swiss wristwatches? 5) She sells seashells by the seashore. Let's say it faster! She sells seashells by the seashore. Even faster! She sells seashells by the seashore. Well, that's all for now; I hope you had fun practicing your English pronunciation, and you didn't get tongue-tied like Smith. We'll see what happened to him and why he was crowned king. But before we continue… If you want to know how to speak English using the proper techniques, visit SpeakEnglishPodcast.com and subscribe to my mailing list. I will send you my video course for free. Today we are going to do an accent reduction exercise with some fun tongue twisters in English. To be specific, we will practice the S sound. And with the help of a mini-story, you will improve your English fluency. A mini-story is very simple but very powerful. Here's how it works: I ask easy questions deliberately so that you can simulate a conversation. It's almost like talking to another person in English. Do you remember what a tongue twister is? It can be a difficult phrase that we say quickly, usually because of a sequence of almost similar sounds. For example, "Peter Piper picked a pickle of pickled peppers." Many people use tongue twisters to speak clearly, including actors, politicians, etc. These allow you to practice pronunciation and agility when it comes to producing sounds in English. And for language learners, tongue twisters are very useful to use as accent reduction exercises. So today, we are going to practice English pronunciation with new tongue twisters. Are you ready? Let's go! I will start saying each tongue twister slowly, and then I will go faster. At first, they may seem very difficult, so make sure you have the text in front of you to be able to follow it better. Ok. So, I will say it very slowly: 1. I saw Esau kissing Kate. I saw Esau, he saw me, and she saw I saw Esau. Are you ready to speed it up? (Say it faster.) I saw Esau kissing Kate. I saw Esau, he saw me, and she saw I saw Esau. Ok. Even faster! I saw Esau kissing Kate. I saw Esau, he saw me, and she saw I saw Esau. I hope you're having fun. Let's continue! 2) Santa's Short Suit Shrunk. Ok. Now I'm gonna speed it up! (say it faster.) Santa's Short Suit Shrunk. Ok. Even faster! Santa's Short Suit Shrunk. 3) You cuss, I cuss, we all cuss for asparagus. Ok. Say it faster! You cuss, I cuss, we all cuss for asparagus. Even faster! You cuss, I cuss, we all cuss for asparagus. 4) Thin sticks, thick bricks. Ok. Say it faster! Thin sticks, thick bricks. Can you say it faster? Thin sticks, thick bricks. 5) Systematically assisting Sisyphus's stealthy cyst-susceptible sister. Can you say it faster? Systematically assisting Sisyphus's stealthy cyst-susceptible sister. Even faster! Systematically assisting Sisyphus's stealthy cyst-susceptible sister. Ok, I know that was hard. But that's it for now; I really hope you're having fun practicing your English pronunciation, but before we continue… If you want to know how to speak English using the proper techniques, visit SpeakEnglishPodcast.com and subscribe to my mailing list. Something that sounds very enticing to English learners is that they wish to speak English with a native accent. Apart from being a difficult goal to reach, in today's world, it's probably becoming less and less important. There's also the problem of selecting a native accent to imitate... native from where? Today I'm giving feedback to Elaph, an English learner from Iraq. Although she's a very fluent speaker, she feels she would like to "reduce her accent", because she feels that it would boost her confidence. Indeed, it is a major boost when a non-specialist native speaker compliments your English. So, in the spirit of keeping her motivation, I accepted to interview her and tell her about the tiny little things that might give away her origin. Again, I don't think it's necessary to do this, but anybody can choose how they wish to be seen and how they wish to interact with others. I understand that feeling accepted is important for most of us. Also, by the end of today's episode, I talk about a new service that I'm offering, so stay tuned. Remember that I'm always here. In this episode we will be looking at accent reduction and whether it is a good idea to try and change your accent. https://youtu.be/CGQCA1sg8do - this link is an advert about accent reduction. This is what we were talking about during our episode.
Accent Reduction “I believe that virtue shows quite as well in rags and patches as she does in purple and fine linen... even if Gargery and Boffin did not speak like gentlemen, they were gentlemen.” ― Charles Dickens If your accent is hampering your communication, then do something about it. It is not a good thing to be inconsiderate of others; therefore, do all within your power to communicate effectively. Most immigrants speak more than one language, and some speak up to five and above. There is room for interference, and this can be minimized through accent reduction. The purpose of this chapter is not to say that your accent is bad, or there is something wrong with you as an individual because you have an accent. In fact, everybody has an accent, and this accent is manifested when you find yourself speaking beyond the area in which you were born and raised. Speaking Of... Conversations on Voice, Speech, and Identity with Ryan O'Shea
In this episode, I’m joined by my longtime client and friend, Kevin Clayette. Kevin is an actor originally from the French-speaking island of New Caledonia. He’s also lived in Australia, England, and now the US and he asked the question, “Is there such a thing as a natural accent?” Like many people who have moved around the world, Kevin’s accent has changed over the years and while he can consciously change his accent to be “American” or “Australian” or “French,” he’s not quite sure how to describe his “natural” accent…that is, his accent when he’s not conscious of being *in* an accent. You can find complete show notes and links to everything we’ve mentioned in the episode on https://www.voiceandspeechwithryan.com/podcast.
Accents - we've all got one! In this episode I challenge mindsets around accents, explain how you can reduce yours if you want to and share stories about my own accent struggles.

Speak English Now Podcast: Learn English | Speak English without grammar.
Welcome to Speak English Now Podcast. With your host Georgiana. The podcast that will help you to speak English fluently with no grammar and no textbooks. Hi, everybody! I'm Georgiana, your online English teacher, and founder of speakenglishpodcast.com My mission is to help you to speak English fluently. Today I'll focus again on the English pronunciation particularly on the vowels with some funny tongue twisters. I'm sure you remember that I made another episode about tongue twisters just recently. If you missed it just go to my website and listen to episode #083. And in the second part of this episode, you'll learn English grammar without studying any rules with an exclusive point of view story. Ok! Let's start! But first, I’ll remind you what a tongue twister is. It’s usually a sentence that is difficult to say fast because the words in the sentence have very similar sounds. For example: "Annie ate eight Arctic apples." Tongue twisters allow us to practice pronunciation and, most importantly, agility when producing sounds in the language. If you want to sound more like an American, it's vital to pronounce vowels correctly. The following tongue twisters will help you reduce your accent for the vowels "a," "e""o" and "u." Like any other tongue twister, your goal is to recite as fast as possible and with few mistakes. Okay. Now let's see some tongue twisters. I'll start saying each tongue twister slowly and then continue faster. And while it's true that that at first, they can seem very difficult. Don't worry about it. Make sure to have the text in front of you because like that you can follow it better. 1. Excited executioner exercising his excising powers excessively. 2. Annie ate eight Arctic apples. 3. Mary Mac's mother's making Mary Mac marry me. My mother's making me marry Mary Mac. Will I always be so merry when Mary's taking care of me? Will I always be so merry when I marry Mary Mac? 4. Picky people pick Peter Pan Peanut-Butter,' tis the peanut-butter picky people pick! 5. I wish to wish, I dream to dream, I try to try, and I live to live, and I'd die to die, and I cry to cry, but I don't know why. 6. Near an ear, the nearer ear a nearly eerie ear. Learning English Should Be Fun My Top 10 Tips for Improving Your Spoken English Listen Listen to the news, English podcasts, good native English speakers and songs. Remember the more you listen, the more you will learn. So in every occasion try to be an active listener and repeat what you hear imitating the pronunciation, the sound, the stress on the word by the speaker too. That phrase comes to mind “Monkey See, Monkey Do” is now “Monkey Hear Monkey speak.” Watch TV & Films There are a number of films done by Hollywood day in and day out make sure that you watch these films to listen to the sound of the words pace and emotional and watch it not to enjoy the film but to note and imitate the position of the mouths..imitate them. Try to avoid putting the subtitles on if you can as they makes your learning slower as relying on home language to explain things Read Out loud daily You need to find something to read daily; whether it's a newspaper, a blog,Ted Talk transcripts, a book, a play, some poetry or even a whatsapp message. When you read out loud practice the pronunciation, pace and intonation. Get a buddy to talk to To speak English better you need to be speaking on a regular, if not daily basis to really get the benefit of English. So try to get yourself a friend on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, online somewhere if your friends are not free then offer an exchange of teaching them your home language. That is how you get your new speaking pen pal and on another point make sure that they're English is better than yours Use technology to help your learning Your phone is your best friend on your journey of improving your speaking English because there are so many apps on smartphones whether you have an Android or iPhone. Record yourself speaking into the phone, then play it back to yourself and ask your friends to listen and give you feedback. Another tip is to record the same text once a week or month and listen to where you have improve to monitor your growth. Speak always at every time Take every occasion to speak whether it's at a coffee shop or at work or an email being sent at work then be extra and make a phone call to just confirm the person understood it. I suggest you take every opportunity to speak English with both hands. As an example, when you're buying a ticket at a train station just talk about how much is it, what is the return price, the route and even mention the weather. Learn a new word daily Pick a word today and practice it in many different sentences and say in different ways. Practice that word each day until you mastered it then the next week or the next day you can pick a new word. Remember to always put these words into context and into a full sentence Read a dictionary and thesaurus daily Dictionaries and thesauruses are your best friend you can get them online very easily. I suggest that you read at least a page of these every single day. Try to memorise the word then say them out loud and put them into a sentence. Try to understand what they mean and I find that with dictionaries it shows you how to pronounce it and what I love about the thesaurus is that it gives alternative synonyms to the word you are actually trying to learn. Do practical activities while learning English (football, tennis, cooking) When you are learning English you need to put it into a practical sense. So please escape the Classroom and learn your vocab for travel by going on a bus and using all the relevant vocab. Another example is if you need to learn about food go to a cooking class and make some yummy food and make friends at the same time Debate or talks Go to weekly talks there are hundreds of them on meetup.com to venture into with a wide range of different topics. Try to go to weekly talks go with the view that you are going to actually talk and also learn new vocab form the way people talk about the topic. Pay attention to the delivery, the passion and the pace etc of the

Accent Reduction is one of the biggest challenges for people of different cultural backgrounds and speech patterns, wanting to 'fit in' among local native English speakers. But as Edwin Maher explains, accents can often enhance a person's vocal delivery. For those who want to indulge in some fine tuning, there's help in this episode of Speaking Naturally. You'll also hear reference to a BBC Hard Talk interview with former Greek Finance Minister, Yanis Varoufakis. The link is here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3cswj91
Let's think about letters we do not pronounce in English
Just a quick chat to get me back into podcasting!!! It's been soooooooo long!!!
“What is the most important thing I can do right now to speak more persuasively and start getting more customers, clients and patients and making more money?” As I am sure you understand, there is not a completely simple answer to this question, but I can give you three executive speaking skills that you MUST put in place, if you want to speak powerfully and persuasively with potential customers, and increase your bottom line. 1.Tell a Convincing Sales Story: I believe that we are all selling all the time and if we are willing to accept this premise and create a convincing sales story, all that remains is for you to tell it well. 2.Concentrate on your delivery: The delivery of your sales story is what seals the deal. Yes, your story is very important. However it is the delivery that separates the professionals from the amateurs. The professional speakers and sales people know that how you say something is often times more important than what you are saying. 3.Get Rid of Speaking Roadblocks: There are a number of speaking roadblocks however the top four are: talking too fast, mumbling, a hard to understand accent and speaking in a monotone.
Take a look at successful communicators and you’ll notice that, most of them have “communication savvy” and find it easy to sell themselves, their ideas, their strategies and their dreams. Which one of these statements would you want your manager to say about you? 1. He is an excellent researcher, but lacks the “communication savvy” needed to sell his ideas. 2. He is an expert in his field and a very “savvy communicator” who can sell his ideas. When it comes to communicating successfully, there are many basics to consider… the over-all message, spontaneous thinking, your words, the person or persons you are speaking with, the time and place of your meeting, your physical presentation, etc. But there is one FOUNDATIONAL skill at play in all communication – if ignored and not taken seriously to heart – it can undermine your entire message and leave everyone frustrated. Although not difficult to learn, this skill is one that you most likely have not recognized as being absolutely critical for consistent communication success. A good start in learning to develop "communication savvy" is to take a speaking voice coaching program while you are young. Unfortunately, it is not taught in most schools. However, it is a valuable learning experience and will serve you well throughout your life both personally and professionally.
Communication is still the # 1 key to personal and career success. Communication – the human connection – is basic to the business world. How many times have you heard “choose your words wisely and express them confidently”. People ask me all the time, why I am so passionate about teaching people to speak clearly, powerfully, and confidently. The answer is simple: the “speaking voice matters”. It is important that your voice is heard. There are so many talented and intelligent people who don’t realize that their speaking voice is getting in the way of their success. Schools teach language skills, vocabulary, and grammar however they do not teach you how to deliver your language with a confident and resonant tone of voice and how to pronounce your words clearly and powerfully. Without realizing it, most of us imitate the voices of our closest elders and teachers without giving it a second thought.
Let's try some words that begin with w followed by the short oo sound. It's very tricky! Take it slow. Use a mirror if needed.

I call it the “hidden secret.” Why? Because no one talks about it….not even the sales and leadership gurus. Here’s the reality.... It does not matter what product or service you offer or whether it is offline or online or both. If you want to be a successful executive or business owner that consistently and reliably delivers quality leads and large profits… If you want to build a team and/or a customer base that will stay loyal to you… If you want to convert your leads to customers, clients or patients… If you want to communicate effectively with any size group of prospects… It’s going to require you to do this one thing. Why doesn’t anyone talk about it? Because most people take it for granted... And this will involve using this secret… You need to know how to use your voice to communicate those benefits so that people can’t resist listening to every word you say. Most sales and presentation courses tell you “you are the message” “If your customer likes you, they trust you and buy from you.” What they don’t tell you is that your Voice can make or break your sales communication. Why? Because most people take their voice for granted and many times don’t think it is possible to do anything about it.
Do you know how you Sound when you talk? Do you Sound Authentic and like you can be Trusted? Do you watch how your listener reacts as you are talking? Most speakers only pay attention to the words they say. Why? Because we are all taught from an early age that The Message is Everything! In truth, it takes 7 seconds or less for your client to react to your voice and to decide whether to listen or believe in what you are saying..... You’ve heard the old sales adage, “If they trust you they buy from you”. What makes them trust you and believe in what you say? In today’s hyped and highly marketed world, speakers who sound Authentic get the ATTENTION.
“People buy people,” “People buy from people they like, know and trust.” In the words of Nick Nanton, a leading expert of personal branding and a top thought leader in the world. “How people speak to other people makes a big difference as to whether people like, know and trust each other”. In the words of Sandra McKnight, renowned international expert in the speaking voice. Today’s social culture has changed whom we admire, what we buy and how we make decisions about purchasing. And it’s more important than ever to lead your company/ business in a very public way and that means communicating effectively so that people know, like and trust you...and ultimately buy from you as a result. Speaking in a polished, powerful and persuasive manner is the bottom line to getting your message heard.
Pauline demonstrates how and where to make the L sound, gives some example words and a training technique. It is all about tongue strength this week!
Today we examine the semi-vowel / consonant sound 'W'. We look at words then sentences that use the sound. Listen and repeat to practise the sound.
“Life has no limitations, except the ones you make.” Les Brown, renowned motivational speaker and authority on human potential “Why do you want to succeed?” That is the question I ask all of my clients in their voice power training. There is one common thread throughout the many answers I receive.... You want to have enough money to have the freedom to do whatever you want in life. So what does having freedom mean to you? Here are some of the answers you stated. You want to... • Work for yourself and avoid having to work for anyone else ever again. • Give back. • Work less and “play” more. • Spend more time with your family. • Help other people live better. • Travel more. All of these reasons just scratch the surface. Identifying the reasons why you want to succeed is an important activity. To quote Les Brown again, “The only limits to the possibilities in your life tomorrow are the “buts” you use today.” However is having a good list of reasons all it takes? I have observed that sometimes people do indeed have a good list of reasons, yet they still struggle to succeed.
Selling with your voice is easy! All you need to do is use your voice to connect on a primal level. When you sound open, professional and engaging, people will relax, listen and be much more inclined to buy. The Magic Power that sells your ideas, your services, your expertise, your products and your personality is having control over the HOW you sound. It is not what you are saying, but how you SOUND when you say it. Speaking like a Leader takes awareness and practice, practice, practice. When you change your speaking voice you will change your life. You can become a star communicator by developing the Magic Power of your Voice.http://www.voicepowerstudios.com/analysis.html
How much confidence, energy, and enthusiasm does your voice radiate when you speak about your ideas, services or products? Your vocal sound is what people react to first and then they listen to what you’re saying. Experts say that in a telephone conversation, 80% of your persuasiveness comes from your speaking voice and 20% from what you say. Most people don’t realize that the sound of their voice is an important and determining factor as to whether someone buys.http://www.voicepowerstudios.com/analysis.html In order to sell your ideas most effectively you also need to speak clearly at approximately 150 words per minute and let each thought you say build upon the previous thought. People don’t speak in sentences they speak in thoughts, one after another. All the thoughts must connect in a succinct and concise way to tell the story of your scientific research. It is never just about the facts. Each thought you say has a corresponding feeling associated with it, even if it is simply enthusiasm or sounding like you’re interested in what saying.
I suggest that many adults have speaking problems that are tied to being shy, having low self- esteem, and lack of confidence, to name just a few and those speaking problems could have been improved easily and quickly, if only speaking voice lessons were taught in our schools. Visit www.voicepowerstudios.com. I am not speaking about learning another language such as English, Spanish, Mandarin, French, German, etc. I’m talking about how to communicate well in any language by using the following basic speaking skills: breath support, vocal resonance, projection, volume control, speech melody, clear pronunciation, pacing and phrasing and speaking at an easily understood rate. After 25 years of teaching voice and speech in the business world, I feel that knowing and practicing the aforementioned speaking skills in the early years of life would definitely facilitate both personal and professional communication. People would begin to value their speaking voice just like they value their bodies. They would use their voice to communicate their needs and the needs of others in a confident, self-assured, articulate, and expressive manner. To me having Voice Power, means you stand in your own power and have the ability to speak your truth with confidence.
The most powerful way to build new client relationships and retain established ones, is to use your voice to create a trusting, comfortable, personal relationship face to face, over the telephone, through a live streaming video or webinar. The 80/20 marketing rule: “A typical business earns approximately 80 percent of its profits from the top 20 percent of its customer base”. Many business people don’t realize that speaking with a confident, energetic voice tone, every time you talk to a client, is the best way to let them know how much you appreciate them.
It really is amazing how changing your speaking voice can positively change your life and the relationships in your life. Just this week, two business professionals, Marsha in her 60’s and Katie in her 20’s, called for a voice consultation because at work both of their voices were being judged negatively. Marsha was accused of sounding overbearing, bordering on angry by the team that she managed and Katie was told by her boss that she sounded like a child of 12 and that this was undermining her credibility with her real estate clients. Rather than feeling that their coworkers and boss were prejudice or had a personal ax to grind, both Marsha and Katie took their feedback positively and began looking for solutions. It is common for people to unconsciously react to someone’s way of speaking and most of the time they don’t even really realize it.
Speaking clearly, concisely, and effectively with confidence is the key to unlocking many doors: in both business and personal relationships. In business you have technical presentations, technical overviews, sales presentations, stake holder meetings, teleconferences. The speaking opportunities increase as you advance in your company. As you grow in your career, you need your co-workers, team members, senior executives, and clients to feel comfortable when you talk with them. This level of comfort comes from being easily understood and is vital to building the trust factor in business or personal relationships.

The ancient Greeks discovered that “The Voice is the Megaphone of the Soul”. They knew that it was your voice that fascinates and captivates an audience and telegraphs your soul power as you speak. Breathing is the secret for both singers and speakers. Good breath support for your speaking voice is what the ancient Greeks discovered and what many of us today in our hurried world often ignore. It is the energy of your breath that sets free the soul power of your speaking voice. Good breath support gives you control over your voice tone, your resonance, your loudness, and your projection. I suggest that you can level the playing field by slowing down and speaking clearly. Fast talking or data dumping is one of the most prevalent bad speech habits today and it can stop your career. After all, the name data dumping implies that you are saying all the relevant information on a particular subject as fast as possible with little regard for your listener and whether he/she understands you. I know that fast talkers like don’t think of it that way however, people can have all sorts of biases around fast talking. For example you can be perceived as trying to double talk a point in order to confuse the situation, or that you are insecure and have a lot of anxiety, or worse yet that you don’t know what you are talking about and don’t want people to know it. It may be that in his own way the judge was trying to keep you from being perceived in any of these ways. Who knows! In any case the slowing of your speaking rate will level the playing field, enhance your communication and help you build many long lasting and effective relationships. Speaking at a normal rate of 120 to 160 words per minute, allows people not only to understand your message but also to react positively to the non-verbal messages in your voice that powerfully influence and persuade others to your point of view. This story beautifully illustrates the first way that your speaking voice stops your career. All your brilliance, and the education and hard work that you put into your chosen profession, can be stopped by not being easily understood by your employer, fellow employees and your clients and customers. May I also say that speaking clearly is not only applicable to foreign speakers, but also to native English speakers. Visit www.voicepowerstudios.com.

Over the years I have worked with various spiritual leaders. The nature of the profession demands that they develop and use their voices to uplift people and hold forth the vision of their particular faith. It takes breath support to sustain a well projected, rich, resonant voice tone. Good pronunciation of all consonants and vowels gives you clarity and a ring to the voice.
