Ever notice how you can be chatting effortlessly, then the moment a new person shows up, you freeze and your brain goes blank? In this episode, Dr. K breaks down why some conversations feel smooth and others suddenly become hard, especially when you feel judged, intimidated, or you want to make a good impression. He explains the nervous system shift that happens in real time, how threat detection hijacks your social flow, and why trying to force yourself to be charming makes it worse. Then he gives a simple roadmap to get back into a relaxed, fluid vibe using breathing, repeated low stakes exposure, and a curiosity based mindset shift. Topics Included -Why conversation flows when you are relaxed, and collapses when you feel evaluated -Parasympathetic vs sympathetic nervous system in social moments How bullying or past social pain trains your brain to treat strangers as threats -Amygdala activation and the freeze response -How overthinking and self monitoring kills conversational flow -A stroke example that shows how the frontal lobes can inhibit free speech -Fast in the moment reset using slow exhalations -Exposure therapy for social ease through small benign interactions -Practical starter reps with low pressure strangers -Using curiosity to replace threat scanning and get back into connection -Reframing small talk as a rare chance to meet a unique person -Letting go of needing approval, especially from people you will never see again HG Coaching : https://bit.ly/46bIkdo Dr. K's Guide to Mental Health: https://bit.ly/44z3Szt HG Memberships : https://bit.ly/3TNoMVf Products & Services : https://bit.ly/44kz7x0 HealthyGamer.GG: https://bit.ly/3ZOopgQ Learn more about your ad choices. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got a pair of talented songwriter/performers who've known each other for years, and who've both had busy years: Margaret Glaspy and Bridget Kearney. Margaret Glaspy has quietly built an impressive catalog of songs over the past decade, putting her sharp lyrics front and center. Her third album, Echo The Diamond, came out earlier this year, and it takes a turn back toward more organic sounds after 2020's Devotion. You may have seen Glaspy on tour over the years with the likes of the Lumineers and Neko Case, and she just finished her first post-pandemic solo run throughout the U.S.—she's an amazing live performer. Chicagoans will have a chance to see her this December when Glaspy opens Andrew Bird's yearly holiday concerts there. In the meantime, check out the bluesy, scrappy “Act Natural” from Echo the Diamond. The other half of today's conversation, Bridget Kearney, is best known as a member of the band Lake Street Dive, the soulful indie-pop outfit that's been kicking around for the past 20 or so years—and probably playing a big theater in your town sometime soon. In addition to holding down the low end for that band, Kearney makes slightly more somber music as a solo artist and more groove-oriented songs in a trio called BB Wisely. In other words, she's not that into sitting still, musically or physically, it seems. Check out the great “I Bet UR,” from Kearney's 2023 solo album Snakes of Paradise. In this lively chat, Glaspy and Kearney talk about their long friendship, which leads to… powerful microscopes. They talk about Kearney's three musical lanes, and how you should trust your gut when the recording vibe is off. And then they get into some powerful advice about exactly how many fucks one should give in a day—it seems like a great system to me, so check it out. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Margaret Glaspy and Bridget Kearney for chatting. If you liked what you heard, please follow Talkhouse on your favorite podcasting platform, and check out all the goodness at Talkhouse.com. This episode was produced by Myron Kaplan, and the Talkhouse theme is composed and performed by the Range. See you next time!

Zoners, Gina Gutierrez the cofounder of Dipsea, an audio erotica startup, is on and we're chattin' about the world where storytelling meets sex, their motto. Do people actually want to listen to sexual fantasies they don't want to live out? Giving yourself permission to enjoy your imagination is a must. Connective relationships vs chance meetings, who wins? Hall passes. Non accordance. Different opportunities and routes toward healthy communication between couples, especially in relation to fantasy. Overcoming shame based backgrounds. Why sex is great in your 40s. Tips for spicing it up and acknowledging love languages. Being a business woman and working in erotica. An excerpt from Tracy and a deep dive into Luke's episode, "Act Natural". Believe it or not there's more, but you'll have to press play to find out.Gina Gutierrez is cofounder and CEO of Dipseas. She is insatiably curious about why people think, feel, and want what they do. She's currently applying that curiosity to female sexuality & empowerment with Dipsea - the platform where sexual wellness meets storytelling. As a seasoned brand builder, she's helped companies like Facebook, Google, Reebok, ThirdLove, DoorDash, and StitchFix find unexpected opportunities to make meaningful connections with their customers.Dipsea believes sexual wellness is essential. Storytelling is powerful. All you need is you. You are entitled to feel good in your body. Recognizing what brings you pleasure makes you more alert to all the other ways joy should be showing up in your life. Tapping into your sexual powers is a step on the journey to asserting that power everywhere. Great stories illuminate the parts of yourself you may have lost touch with, or have yet to discover. They give you ideas, and meaning, and affirm that you are never alone. They remind you that sex is more than sensation: it's about chemistry, intimacy, and connection. It's a radical and freeing realization that the answers to your own pleasure have always been a part of you. By flexing your imagination and getting familiar with your fantasies and boundaries, you're primed for great sex with yourself and with others. Our sponsor, Athletic Greens, is going to give you a FREE 1 year supply of immune-supporting Vitamin D AND 5 FREE travel packs with your first purchase. https://www.letusthinkaboutit.com/step-62-the-double-bind/PART 1Ryder discusses Alan Watt's interpretation of the "tough-minded" and "tender-hearted" as "prickles and goos" that need each other, yet are confused by each other and lash out. Of course, like Alice in Wonderland, we can refuse to play the game: the competitive rules laid out by another in a grid, but Watts says to remember that life is a game... when our ego gets involved we tend to forget and become serious and demand "off with their heads." Using Buddhist insights may not help. It tends to be a meta-move, like a kid trying out some Marxism to attack their dad. It may be true, but will likely not change anything. Yet, what the kid is doing is practicing the utility of ideology: now a Pawn can check a King. It is local practice for the global revolution. PART 2The double bind is being told to "act natural": a paradox forcing performative conformity. Thus our identity is shaped by society. Slavoj Zizek cites the Paris riots of 2005 as a double blackmail, where the ghettoized citizens are called animals and treated as animals, thus in rage, they burn cars and part of their homes. To some this reinforces their barbarism (they can never be integrated into Paris society) while to others it is an anguished cry or rage that is all too human. Capitalism and Bureaucracy tend to these double binds: where to be famous like Elvis, you sell out your rebellious rage. Capitalism utilizes and capital-izes on energy, converting any attack into sustenance for itself and punishment for you. It is claimed to be a hydra, but more accurately - as Foucault has said of power and its dispersal - it is amoeba-like slime with no head to lop off. PART 3Joseph Heller's "Catch-22" has many examples of contradictory, nonsensical paradoxes in the military making it into a dark farcical comedy. The primary paradox is you cannot escape the military: if you want to save yourself you are sane (it is sane not to want to fight or die) so to be declared insane you must want to stay and fight... in which case you would never claim you are insane. Eventually, the main character does go insane, and the military rewards his bravery. Insanity is the preferred outcome. In Ken Kesey's "One Flew Over the Cockoo's nest" Randle McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) trades prison for the mental ward, only to find by declaring insanity his welfare has been turned over to Nurse Ratchet, a petty tyrant who works to break this spirited man. Her target: his head. As Foucault has stated, the body can be imprisoned in circumstances, but the goal now is to have you internalize the contradictions until our shared insanity seems sane. the escape: off with your own head

HOW TO ACT NATURAL IN FRONT OF A CAMERA. If you’re doing YouTube, online courses, IG TV videos or work as presenting something (an online show/television show or so on) then this post is for you. The last couple of days I’ve received some messages from some of you on how to act natural in front of a camera. A few days ago I uploaded another post similar to this one about ‘how to be more comfortable showing up on video’. But the tips in this post will be slightly different. So here they come, there’s 4 tips in total: 1. Imagine that the lens of the camera is someone you know. So wether you want to recall a sexy/chilled/funny/relaxed or so on attitude/vibe/face expression/look in the eye, then think of the person who makes you feel xxx and imagine them to be the lens of the camera. 2. Practise in front of a camera tons of times, just for yourself. Practise makes master. 3. Look a bit above the lens of the camera if it makes you feel too uncomfortable. We’re talking millimetres here!! 4. Zone out by focusing on what you’re there to do: explain something/make a point/deliver a message or so on. I hope these tips will benefit you and help you to act and feel more natural in front of a camera. Good luck! xx J** DM/EMAIL me if you need help with making your dreams come true. @xxjasminsoe / www.xxjasminsoe.com
