The Northern Ireland Executive has published its draft budget for 2025-26 and it's now open for public consultation. Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs is set to receive just over £715 million pounds, an increase of 3%. But no specific funding has been allocated to address serious pollution in Lough Neagh and Andrew Muir, the environment minister, says his department has only been awarded around a third of what he'd requested for day to day spending. He describes it as ‘a difficult budget'. Historic farm diaries provide a fascinating glimpse into agricultural, social and cultural life in years gone by. So curators at the Three Rivers Museum in Hertfordshire were excited to unearth a diary written in Victorian times by a farmer from Rickmansworth called John White. Masters students at the University of Hertfordshire have been scrutinising the diary entries to see if there's anything that John's observations from 150 years ago might teach farmers today. Rearing and selling turkeys for Christmas has become a major source of income for some family farms, including Cuckoo Mill Farm at Pelcomb Bridge, in Pembrokeshire. And at this time of year, it's a real family affair, with all hands on deck. Presented by Caz Graham and produced by Beatrice Fenton.

Sipa Resources Ltd (ASX:SRI) managing director Andrew Muir joins Proactive's Tylah Tully to discuss the company's preparations for a busy exploration period in the final part of this year. Sipa has drilling scheduled across its key Western Australian projects, including the Paterson North Gold-Copper Project, where it plans to conduct reverse circulation (RC) drilling in November. This program, targeting structural extensions at the Obelisk prospect, will include 11 RC holes totalling 2,000 metres. Obelisk, a 1.2-kilometre zone of gold and copper anomalism, has yielded notable past results, such as 0.2 metres at 22.5 g/t gold and 2.0% copper. Sipa has entered into a drill-for-equity agreement with Topdrill, allowing it to cover up to 30% of drilling costs via share issuance, further supporting its Paterson North efforts. Additionally, aircore drilling will begin in December at the Skeleton Rocks Project, focusing on the Nicoletti trend, a 7.5-kilometre magnetic stratigraphy zone. Previous drilling has returned anomalous nickel, cobalt and chromium values. The company remains optimistic about exploration potential, especially with recent M&A activities in the Paterson region. #ProactiveInvestors #SipaResources #ASX #PatersonNorth, #SkeletonRocks, #GoldExploration, #NickelExploration, #CopperExploration, #WesternAustralia, #ASX, #MiningProjects, #ObeliskProspect, #DrillingCampaign, #GoldCopperAnomalism, #MineralExploration, #Topdrill, #EquityDeal, #MergersAndAcquisitions, #AircoreDrilling, #ReverseCirculationDrilling, #ExplorationUpdate, #MiningNews

Sipa Resources Ltd managing director Andrew Muir sits down with Jonathan Jackson in the Proactive studio to discuss preparations for an extensive drilling season across its Western Australian projects. The company has completed a site visit at Paterson North to prepare for a regional and vector-style drilling program targeting multiple prospects. Paterson North includes the significant 25-million-ounce Tefler gold mine and the Winu and Havieron discoveries, though much of the tenure remains unexplored. For the 2024 drilling season, Sipa plans to drill the north-eastern part of Paterson North and conduct an air core drilling program at the Skeleton Rocks Project. A detailed review of historical data for Skeleton Rocks confirmed its potential for nickel mineralisation, especially along the 7.5-kilometre Nicoletti Trend, where previous drilling yielded nickel, cobalt, and chromium. At the Barbwire Terra Joint Venture with Buru Energy Ltd, Sipa is planning a ground gravity survey to cover a data gap in the south-eastern portion of the project. This will support targeting for a diamond drilling program in 2025, funded partly by an Exploration Incentive Scheme grant. At Warralong, data processing from mapping and sampling will inform future work plans targeting copper mineralisation. Additionally, at Wolfe Basin, Sipa plans a geophysical survey and drilling in 2025, with preliminary site visits and mapping to determine accessibility. Sipa continues to review its portfolio, remaining open to acquisitions, divestments, or joint ventures. #ProactiveInvestors #SipaResources #ASX #Mining #Drilling #WesternAustralia #PatersonNorth #SkeletonRocks #Nickel #Cobalt #Chromium #BarbwireTerraJV #GravitySurvey #Warralong #Copper #WolfeBasin #Exploration #Mineralisation #Geophysics #MiningProjects #ResourceDevelopment #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

The return of the Northern Ireland Assembly means there's a new man in charge at the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, or DAERA. We speak to Andrew Muir about his priorities. After leaving the EU, the four nations of the UK have decided on different payment systems for farmers. In England the Environmental Land Management Scheme, or ELMS, has several parts to it. The Sustainable Farming Incentive or SFI is part of that. It pays farmers for doing environmental work, like planting hedges or improving soils. Some English farmers felt there was little ‘incentive' to join it, because payments were too low. However in January that changed. 50 new things farmers could do to attract money were added to the scheme and some payments were increased. We discuss what those were with the Farming Minister Mark Spencer. All week we've been looking at the business side of running a farm. Farmers have long argued that they deal with far too much paperwork. One company set up to help them with form filling says it's been inundated with requests and believes many farmers feel burdened and isolated by the sheer amount of red tape. Diversification is often key to a successful farm business. According to DEFRA, 69% of farm businesses were engaged in some kind of diversification in 2022-23. We visit a small upland farm in the Lake District to find out how diversification has worked for them.In the Scottish Highlands vast tracts of land and whole estates are being bought as ‘green investments'. Tree planting and rewilding are used to offset carbon. A report for the Scottish Government has tried to quantify the impact of this on rural communities.
