At the base of Mount Fuji in Japan lies a forest that is 14 square miles in size and is referred to by some as the Sea of Trees. The forest's official name is Aokigahara Forest and has a reputation for being very quiet. That should make this area very peaceful, but it is actually pretty notorious. The forest has a reputation as a place people go to die by their own hand. Most people call this wooded area "The Suicide Forest." There are rumors that demons run the place. Aokigahara Forest, also known as the Sea of Trees, is a dense forest located at the northwest base of Mount Fuji in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. The forest covers an area of approximately 35 square kilometers and is known for its rocky terrain, thick foliage, and lava caves. The forest is home to a variety of wildlife, including birds, deer, bears, Japanese marten, and Japanese dormouse. However, it is perhaps most famous for its reputation as a suicide hotspot over here in the west. The number of suicides that occur in the forest each year is difficult to determine, but it is estimated that around 100 people take their own lives there annually. This has led to the forest being referred to as the "suicide forest" and has sparked a great deal of controversy and debate.Get 20% off + free shipping with the code FUZZ20 at manscaped.com. Let's venture into a world of supposed mysteries. Could alien interference be behind the reputation of Aokigahara Forest, or as some have named it, "The Suicide forest," and the tragedy at Dyatlov Pass?In Digging up Ancient Aliens, our host Fredrik uses his background in archaeology to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between in popular media such as Ancient Aliens. This time we're looking into episode ten from season three, "Aliens and evil places." Or rather, we look into two of the sites brought up in the episode, Aokigahara Forest and Dyatlov Pass.Aokigahara Forest has been called in popular media the "Suicide Forest," and we will look into the reason behind this. By investigating Japanese culture, history, and the area itself, we will try to find the reason for the forest's reputation. Are you looking for the best haunted forest for a refreshing yet terrifying adventure? We are here to help. Don't forget to pack something to protect you from evil. Taking a stroll through nature can be a much needed retreat from the never ending rat race of day to day life. It's been said that hiking in general keeps your mind sharp, boosts your mood, helps increase your creativity and cements a positive relationship with the natural world around you, among a slew of other benefits. However, as is the case with anything, there is a flip side to that coin as well. Yes, there are the obvious dangers that should be taken into account; attacks by wild life, getting lost, or even taking a wrong step and getting injured in a place with little to no cell service. But what if these places harbored more mystery than predators, and rough terrain alone? Countless deaths and mysterious disappearances take place in the deep woods, far outside the roaring streets of life in the city. Today we aim to shed some light on the mystery, peek behind the dense blanket of branch and leaf, put our ear to the ground and listen to the dark history of some of the worlds most haunted forests. ——— TIME STAMPS: What Lurks Beyond The Branch & Brush - 0:00 THEME MUSIC - 1:14 Christian Taunts Listeners w/ a Jaunty Tune - 2:11 WELCOME / SOCIALS / RATE REVIEW - 2:25 Christian Receives his Just Desserts - 4:38 Haunted Forest #1: Japan's Aokigahara Forest - 6:28 Haunted Forest #2: The Hoia Baciu of Romania - 21:52 Haunted Forest #3: The Killer Woods of Germany's Black Forest - 29:26 Haunted Forest #4: Freetown-Fall River State Forest is Horribly Named - 43:10 Haunted Forest #5: The Pine Barrens of New Jersey - 39:35 A Strategically Placed Walton's Reference - 45:23 One Last Thing - 46:16 ——— If you're enjoying the show, please take a second to leave us a 5-Star Review and consider sharing the show with your friends and family! In this week's episode, Sandra talks about Aokigahara Forest located on the northwestern flank of Mount Fuji on the island of Honshu in Japan. It is on 30 square kilometers (12 sq miles) of hardened lava that was laid down by the last major eruption of Mount Fuji that happened in 864 CE. Although thousands of tourists are visiting it today, unfortunately, it is most well known as the "Suicide Forest." Today Japan has tried to do a number of things to discourage people from dying by suicide by putting up signs with suicide prevention information located at the forest entrance, and they no longer release the numbers of suicides in the forest. Due to its tragic history, It is no secret that the forest today is known to be haunted. Later, Danielle talks about the strange and unexplainable disappearance of famed crime novelist Agatha Christie. One day in December 1926, Christie kissed her young daughter good night and drove off towards London. She was not seen again for eleven days. Why would this famous and successful novelist suddenly decide to vanish into thin air? Once found, Christie maintained that she had no recollection of what occurred the night she disappeared and she refused to speak about it ever again publicly. Support, Socials, Website, and everything ATT here: https://linktr.ee/alientheoristspodcastOn the northern slopes of Mt. Fuji, the volcanic soil is covered in a vast dark forest. It's said the trees grow so thick with their canopies interwoven into a lush green blanket that even in a downpour, a hiker might not need an umbrella. In some areas, it's said the roots of the trees grow in such a way that they look like they are reaching out and almost seem to writhe with dark intent. The forest is known for its almost complete lack of sound. No birds, no insects, no animals making forest calls. When some people walk into the primeval undergrowth, they immediately report feeling isolated and anxious, enveloped by the strangeness of the oppressive atmosphere. For years, Japanese authorities have posted signs on the forest edges, warning of the dangers of becoming lost within the shadow filled woods and urging those who are contemplating entering while under the dark influence of thoughts of self-harm should turn back. We are talking about the Aokigahara Forest in Japan. Also known as the Suicide Forest. The nickname stems from it being one of the most used suicide sites in the world. With reports of spirits wandering through the forests, bodies found hanging in trees, and Buddhists altars setup to deter evil, we had to discuss it. If you or a loved one need help, the national suicide prevention lifeline is 800-273-8255 Have an interesting story to share? Welcome back, listeners. This week we are telling you some creepy circus/carnival stories. Shannon's dog, Minion, makes his podcast debut, and we put our ignorance on display when we discover that Shriners aren't always veterans, apparently. BUT FIRST: Last week we covered wilderness stories. Maire discussed the Aokigahara Forest which is a real forest in Japan. She got her information from wikipedia and bustle.com. Shannon's fictional story was from reddit/nosleep by u/miserable_seaweed290 Keep it creepy, ya'll.

In today's episode, we are talking about the famous Suicide Forest in Japan, aka The Aokigahara Forest. This episode was SUPER difficult to record. It took several attempts. We noticed many times while recording this episode that the recording would cut off on its own and previously recorded segments would corrupt without reason.
