Imagine going to the doctor in excruciating pain, only to be dismissed with a “It's just stress” or “It's all in your head.” This is the harsh reality for millions of women navigating a healthcare system built around the male body as the default. From misdiagnoses to inadequate treatments and higher mortality rates, women's health is often overlooked, with serious consequences - delayed diagnoses, ignored pain, and mental health issues brushed aside.Welcome back to Women Unfiltered Episode 3 is here, and we're diving deep into the gender health gap with three incredible guests. In this episode, we'll explore some tough questions, such as: Why is women's pain so often dismissed? Why is there such little research on the female body? Why are women more likely to tear their ACLs? What is medical gaslighting? Why does it take nearly 9 years for women to get diagnosed with Endometriosis? Plus, why is only 5% of global health research funding dedicated to women's health? We kick off the conversation with Clara Hall, unpacking the lack of research into female reproductive health and hormones, followed by Liv sharing her journey of recovering from an ACL and Meniscus injury. Then, we welcome Stella Fenwick, who opens up about living with PCOS, and Jenni Kingsnorth, who shares her story of struggling with Endometriosis. We end with a discussion about neurodiversity, focusing on ADHD in women. Leah Iqbar and Liv dive into the harmful stereotypes, the struggles in getting diagnosed, internalised ableism, and Leah's personal journey with ADHD medication. Why are so many neurodivergent women overlooked, and how does that impact their mental health and daily lives?Trigger Warning: Discussion of Endometriosis and PCOS (with a brief discussion about blood) and ACL Injuries. But Mark Waid (and newly credited co-writer Brian Augustyn) put the main focus back on the dynamic between Wally West and Linda Park, as they argue about how much information to reveal to the public about an impending global disaster, negotiate the Flash's exile from Keystone City to his new home turf of Santa Marta, California, and find their commitment to each other put to the ultimate test when the devil Neron comes looking to make a deal. It's a return to our favourite combo, another mother daughter episode as Em's eldest Marchella steps in for Michael Lucas. We begin with Chella disowning her own father's last name and an explain on why she has a deeper voice than Em. Then Em reveals she gave in and watched the entire series of ‘Baby Reindeer' and she is NOT OKAY! After being told in our previous episode by Michael and Chella to avoid it at all costs, Em decided they're not the boss of her, dove right in and then promptly nearly drowned in all of the things. (TRIGGER WARNING - Discussion of sexual assault, stalking & abuse) Inside you'll get a full breakdown on what to expect, why you should probably avoid it and also a bunch of spoilers, if you'd prefer to skip ahead, then you need to jump from 9.43 to 20.35 to escape any reveals. We follow that with the palate cleanser of Em and Chella's latest obsession ‘Sullivan's Crossing', from playing ‘Okay, Stop!' with the show's trailer, to giving us a full exposé on why it's terrible, but also essential viewing. Em even gets Chella to reveal why she watches ‘Gilmore Girls' on repeat and play a clip from a birthday cameo she got from Scott Patterson, aka Luke Danes, as well. Also in our Sealed Section, Em has become addicted to a particular Fleetwood Mac song and its accompanying live performance, plus Disney is releasing a Mufasa origin story and Em has a LOT to say about it. TRIGGER WARNING- Discussion and videos on animal abuse. One of the strangest and saddest features of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church is its appalling record of cruelty to animals. From slaughterhouses where live pigs are dropped to boiling water, to using SUVs to ram and run over kangaroos, to the mindless torture of cats, chickens and small wild birds and animals - the PBCC does it all - and apparently takes great pleasure in it. It all started with a great slaughter of pets in the 1960s, when James Taylor Jr, the alcoholic leader of the cult decreed that animals were "unclean" and were used by Satan to take our affections away from God. Within days of this pronouncement, tens of thousands of cats, dogs, rabbits, birds and other creatures were drowned, beaten to death or if lucky, euthanized. Hear accounts from PBCC leavers who were traumatized as children by this callous genocide of pets. Then it get worse... Hear One School Global teachers describe how their students delighted in cruelty to animals, and how they had to bring in speakers from animal cruelty charities to try and help them. Hear how the prominent and extremely wealthy Bruce Hazell tormented birds and rabbits in PBCC priest Oliver Woodcock's backyard. We hear how young brethren attending Bible readings, and actually staying in the house with Global PBCC leader Bruce D Hales would spend the time between church meetings "Roo bashing" including running over and fatally wounding mother kangaroos with joeys in their pouches. Finally, in a filthy mélange of religious hypocrisy, homophobia, political corruption and cruelty to animals, the story of the execrable Roger Unwin's Tasmanian pig farm. We end this podcast on a light note with funny videos and pictures of ex-members sharing their beautiful moments with their pets. link for insiders- https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/kpam18misb353m5g88p4a/Get-A-Life-podcast-on-Animal-Abuse.mp4?rlkey=vsnfw567a5plno6d925y7d6th&dl=0 Link to Cat hit with arrow article- https://au.news.yahoo.com/mount-barker-man-faces-court-after-cat-shot-in-head-with-arrow-35973868.html Article on OSG teacher/PBCC and animal abuse- https://faithschoolersanonymous.uk/2016/06/exclusive-brethren/ Slaughter house articles- https://www.farmtransparency.org/media/41-slaughterhouse-owned-by-controversial-exclusive-brethren-leader-under-fire-corruption-animal-abuse https://www.farmtransparency.org/editorials/331-scottsdale-pork-pig-slaughterhouse-intersection-political-corruption-bigotry https://www.instagram.com/p/C1-v6UXuEpy/ https://www.instagram.com/p/C2CUX58JStA/?img_index=1 Animal cruelty, pet abuse & violence: the missed dangerous connection- https://medcraveonline.com/FRCIJ/animal-cruelty-pet-abuse-amp-violence-the-missed-dangerous-connection.html#:~:text=Animal%20abusers%20are%20more%20likely,as%20having%20Antisocial%20Personality%20Disorder.&text=Those%20who%20engage%20in%20animal,%2C%20and%20drug%2Fsubstance%20abuse. TRIGGER WARNING-Discussion of suicide, please use discretion. At the base of Mount Fuji, in Japan there is a forest, that is known to lure the sad and lost visitors off of the path, and into the depth of the forest, where they end up taking their own lives. Media has stopped reporting on how many complete suicide in Aokigahara, in hopes of stopping those who have romanticized the idea, and seek out the forest to spend their last hours on earth. Even still, there is an annual walk through of the forest where, police, volunteers and reporters go and look to bring home the bodies of those who followed through with their plan, in order to give their families some peace. Even, without reports, it is still estimated that over 100 people per year end there lives, under the eerily quiet canopy of tree. Is it just the serenity and calm of the woods that make this the place that people want to spend their last moments? or is it something more sinister?Support the showIf you're interested in receiving bonus episodes, early release dates, an everything scary sticker and ‘thank you' as well as a shout out on our regular feed! Trigger Warning: Discussion of death at 5:41–8:09This is a special edition podcast episode: Eight years ago — on the exact day we recorded this episode — Krista's previous partner to Will suddenly died. While we tend to think about loss and grief as negative experiences, we don't always think about the richness or gifts that can be relieved through the process. In this episode, we explore Krista's loss and lessons from eight years of distance, but also, how grief can serve as an unexpected doorway to our next greatest calling. Krista shares how a deep loss and her dark night of the soul triggered years of healing and processing, but also gave her profound insight to stand for something she really wanted, and an uncanny commitment to co-create it in this lifetime: her extraordinary marriage with Will. Our vulnerable share comes from the belief that when we have the right support to process and to heal, our losses can ultimately lead us to important life lessons that we potentially otherwise wouldn't learn. However in order to find the “gold” we have to move through the hard feelings to get to the gold. Our invitation for you this week is to reflect deeply and hold your losses. Are there places where you can learn and grow from the hardest moments that you've been through? Please share any findings with us, we'd love to hear from you.Listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, or on your favorite podcast platform. On a cool March evening of 2008, motorists on Highway 147 in Auburn, Alabama were startled to see a young girl in the road. She was naked, crying, covered in road rash and waving her arms desperately for help. Despite everyone's best efforts, 18 year old Lauren Burk did not survive her ordeal. She had been shot and and bled out within 2 to 3 minutes after jumping from a moving car. The Auburn University student had been carjacked in a campus parking lot. The ensuing trial for her murderer, Courtney Lockhart, called into question many troubling aspects of the law. The standard for mental incompetency as well as the Alabama law that a judge can override a jury's recommendation.
