The Sacramento Kings are on their way to the NBA Playoffs for the first time since 2006. On today's episode I reflect back to 1996, the first ever game playoff game at Arco Arena. I share stories from that era and talk about how much easier life was without social media. I also reflect back on game 3 vs the Sonics in '96 and forecast what it will be like when the Kings play the first ever playoff game at Golden One Center. Here's what I do know, in '96 nobody had cell phones in their hands. In two weeks 18,000 people will have their cell phones out instead of clapping. I don't know about you, but I miss how much easier life was back in 1996. Bottom line, 2023 is a great one for Kings fans and no fan base in America deserves this more than Kings fans! This is one of my favorite episodes! My guest is Ryan Anderson who played 12 years in the NBA. Ryan grew up in El Dorado Hills, CA and won a high school state championship at Arco Arena, his Senior year of high school. We start off talking about family life as Ryan is now the father of a one- and three-year-old. Ryan talks about growing up in California and being drafted in the first round by New Jersey. He shares a funny story of his mom on draft night. Ryan then discusses the impact Monty Williams has had on his life. The now Phoenix Suns coach was there for Ryan when his girlfriend committed suicide when Ryan played for New Orleans. Ryan goes into great detail the pain he suffered and how the suicide of his girlfriend changed his life. We then talk about how Ryan was there for Monty when he lost his wife in an automobile accident. I then asked Ryan if he had any regrets looking back at his NBA career and gives a very interesting response regarding his time with the Houston Rockets. While it wasn't a blockbuster news week for the Kings, the Kings did make some noteworthy signings by adding Kent Bazemore, Quinn Cook and Sam Merrill. This brings their training camp roster to 20, the maximum number of players allowed. This will set up to what will be a very competitive training camp for the Kings come September. In other news, congratulations to DeAaron Fox for getting married to his now wife, Recee Caldwell. And the demolition of Arco Arena is now finally happening. Many fans have fond memories of the Kings in that building, here's to hoping that modern Kings fans will have moments that will match the glory days of the Kings in the Golden 1 Center in the future. Perhaps as early as this year

Last week Josh Donaldson of the Yankees called Tim Anderson of the White Sox "Jackie". Anderson thought is was a racist comment. So did MLB who suspended Donaldson for one game. I read a column from Phil Mushnick of the NY Post who makes some great points about this. I also talk about an incident at Arco Arena in 2016 as the Kings were celebrating the Lunar New Year. On this episode I give you my fondest memories of Arco Arena which opened in 1988. The first event I witnessed in that arena was the 1988 Ring magazine fight of the year. Tony Lopez beat Rocky Lockridge for his first world title. It was as good of an atmosphere that I've ever experienced at a sporting event. Opening night for the Kings was one of my favorite moments as well. I can't remember much about the game, but it was my second NBA telecast and I was in awe of the evening! In 1996 the Kings played their first ever playoff game at Arco Arena. The Kings had won game 2 in Seattle and the ovation the fans gave the Kings when they took the floor is my favorite Arco Arena memory. I've never seen anything like it. I also discuss April14, 2011 when I broke down on camera thinking it was the last game the Kings would play in Sacramento. Obviously, the last game ever played in that building in 2016 was very special as well. I was blessed to be a part of the history of Arco Arena and I hope you enjoy this podcast! The Sacramento native became the Public Address Announcer for the same franchise in 2002. How did he get there? Passion, a plan, and lots of practice. And now in his 19th season, it is easy to see that the passion hasn't left the building. In fact, he just gets better. Jason and Rich bid adieu to Milwaukee's Bradley Center and discuss historical and upcoming NBA arena changes. The end of the Bradley Center is significant as it is currently one of the NBA's oldest active NBA arenas only behind the New York Knicks' Madison Square Garden and the Golden State Warriors' Oracle Arena. We discuss some of our memories of the Bradley Center, its history as an NBA arena and what it means for it to be replaced. We then look at some new arenas coming in the near future including the aforementioned Oracle Arena being replaced by the brand-new Chase Center, the Warriors move back to San Francisco and the historical significance of that as and much more. We also touch on the proposed Inglewood Basketball & Entertainment Center for the Los Angeles Clippers. Lastly, we dig into recent arena changes including the Detroit Pistons moving from The Palace of Auburn Hills to the new Little Caesars Arena, Sacramento Kings leaving Arco Arena for the state-of-the-art Golden1 Center and Orlando moving from one Amway to another in 2010.
