Welcome to the Cory Talks Podcast! On this brand-new episode… As Victoria gets on top of the COVID outbreak, New South Wales has one of its own. Once again, the NSW government seems a tad slow at getting on to it. Testing needs to improve and mask wearing indoors is only “strongly recommended”. Updates from New South Wales Health – https://health.nsw.gov.au Updated from Victoria – https://coronavirus.vic.gov.au The AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine will only be administered to Australians over the age of 60 now. However, those under 60 who have already had their first dose of the AZ shot can get their second. I swear we must pay politicians by the word. There were lots of them from Prime Ministers Scott Morrison (Australia) and Boris Johnson (United Kingdom) recently at the G7 meeting in England on the UK/Australia Free Trade agreement. Lots of words, not a whole lot of detail. Western Australian Premier pleads with federal government to let the Muragappan family return to their adopted home of Biloela in Queensland. This week I explored grief - the very natural but overlooked process that affects all of us - with Victoria Volk who specialises in coaching and supporting people who are struggling with loss. As Victoria puts forward, grief is so often narrowly associated with death, however it is much much wider than that as it is the result of any loss and so we incur grief more widely than we realise. Victoria shares the six common myths relating to grief and how they have been perpetuated intergenerationally, becoming part of our current culture resulting in a collective lack of emotional discernment and literacy. Victoria is really good at breaking down the dynamics of grief and walks us through the process to release its grip. This conversation covers a lot of ground, there's a lot of interesting emerging questions that come up, which really provides a full picture in this area that affects you, me and everyone.

Best Old Time Radio Podcast with Bob Bro Tuesday, December 8, 2020 - OTR Dramas The Whistler - "Murder at Twin Pines" As Victoria watched from the porch of her house on the hill she saw boats moving slowly back and forth over the water. Some of them were Sheriff's boats and she instantly knew they were dragging the lake -- looking for a body. Before the next two days were over, Vicki would learn her future husband was being held in connection with the murder and her very supportive older sister was his accuser. As Victoria heads deeper into its coronavirus lockdown, the threat of new cases remains for other states and territories around Australia.
As Victoria's Coronavirus curve remains in mid-hundreds Melbournians have been ordered to cover up their faces with a new mask mandate being enforced. Across the Tasman, New Zealand MPs would be better covering up downstairs given the week of sex scandals. Dieuwe de Boer and Tim Wilms discuss this latest news on Trad Tasman Talk. National MP Andrew Falloon texted pornographic images (not of himself) to at least five different women, prompting his swift resignation from parliament. Ian Lees-Galloway, Labour Minister for Workplace Relations, Immigration, and ACC, has been outed for adultery with a staffer, which lasted a year and even involved flying her to Paris. Some say he took his job a bit too literally. The third departure was Raymond Huo, a Labour MP with CCP connections, who is retiring with little fanfare. Announced on Sunday, Greater Melbourne and Mitchell Shire’s face covering mandate has come into effect as the city enters the third week of the second city-wide lockdown. You face a $200 fine for not wearing a mask without a valid reason, but why now when these veils were previously discouraged? Victoria’s daily new coronavirus cases are somewhat stable in the 200-400 range for the past two weeks, the curve is not going up or down. Premier Dan Andrews has blamed reckless Victorians for creating the second wave, but in reality, it has been his government’s failure at managing hotel quarantine, his health department’s poor infection contact tracing program, and his failure to keep health and aged care facilities free of the coronavirus that has caused its return. Health professionals let Melbourne down. The media are still campaigning for governments to mandate even more restrictions, including for Melbourne to be subjected to a stage 4 lockdown, which has not even been defined. Meanwhile in Sydney, more BLM protests are planned… Infamous country shopper and illegal immigrant Behrouz Boochani has been allowed to stay in NZ as Ian Lees-Galloway’s final act as immigration minister. The Kurdish-Iranian activist has extensive ties to communist organisations and used his first day as a “refugee” to argue for “hate speech” laws. Perhaps this is just a stopover for him to use as a backdoor to get into Australia. The show closed with some comments on the deplatforming of checkpoint challengers and corona skeptics, along with an update on Coon Cheese cancel culture. As Victoria sees it, "To become an American, you have to put in a lot of work." After all, that's been her story. Victoria's path to the U.S. started with a stroke of luck: Her mother won the visa lottery, granting her and her daughter entry to the country; but as many immigrants soon learn after they arrive, the streets in America are not paved with gold. At one point becoming homeless, acts of kindness and generosity helped them survive. Eventually, the gifted loaves of bread, the teachers who went the extra mile, and their hard work paid off. Victoria has achieved the "American Dream," having earned her PhD and achieved success in the medical equipment business. Her story is an inspiration and shows how America is made better, and richer, when we welcome the most needy of people who ask to enter. In this week's episode I get to interview a sweet friend of mine, Victoria. We talk about something that is not easy to talk about, depression. Just like me, Victoria has walked through her own depression journey and today's she is sharing with us what it looked like and how she was able to keep putting on foot in front of the other in order to keep moving forward and find healing. Victoria is a wife, married to her best friend Brian for the last 23 years. Together they have four daughters. Victoria is also the Founder of Bear Creek Enterprises - a Construction Company in Central VA that specializes in building and creating outdoor living spaces. Victoria is also an Owner and the CFO of Bear Creek Building Supply, an affiliate business to her construction company. Together with her husband, and a team of craftsman, they run their companies together with a heart to employ people through meaningful work and a life-changing environment. In the day to day Victoria heads up Team Development for both companies, whose mission it is to build its people and a company culture that cares for it's people well. As Victoria often says "We Build Stuff, But More Importantly We Strive to Build People." I know that you are going to get a lot out of this week's episode, so without any further ado, let's listen to my interview with Victoria.
It's fall season! As Victoria salvages her hot girl summer, Tram rides solo. She reflects on her birthday, talks about basic ABG things, her love for horror movies and the big question, can you stay friends with an ex?
So what happens when you make it through the storm and you are at anchor in a safe and peaceful location? A few things. Firstly there is likely to be a feeling of relief, we made it! Thank you Jesus. Then if you are process-minded like me you may start to do a mental review of how you could have been better prepared for the storm, or consider what could you have done differently in the storm Finally you may ask that important question, what did I learn from the storm and how can I use that knowledge in preparing for the future? And so it is with the storms of life, how do we take what we've learned about ourselves, God and our relationship with Him, and move forward? How do we at the very least maintain and hopefully build on the new level of intimacy with our heavenly father, that has developed through the storm? It is easy when we have a deep personal need to cry out to God, petitioning Him to move in the circumstance, to heal, to provide, to help us through that minute of the day. The Psalms express these cries so well. Oh, Lord God, answer my prayers! I need to see your tender kindness, your grace, your compassion, and your constant love. Just let me see your face, and turn your heart toward me. Come running quickly to your servant. In this deep distress, come and answer my prayer. Psalm 69:16-17 TPT But what happens when by His grace and mercy that desperate need is gone and life moves to a new normal? How to you make sure that you don't revert back to that self-sufficient independent life, forgetting to do your day with Jesus because there appears to be no immediate need for Him? Over the past couple of years as our family has transitioned from survival mode to a more normal life, here are some of the practical things that I've done to keep growing the hunger for a deeper relationship with God. Read a different translation/version of the Bible For me this has included reading different translations of the Bible. I am currently loving reading The Passion Translation. I have also been reading a NKJV Bible with that includees leadership commentary from John Maxwell, The Maxwell Leadership Bible - Lessons in leadership from the Word of God, by John Maxwell. His commentary includes thoughts ont how God used the trials people faced to build character to enable them to do what He had planned for them. I believe reading different Bible translations/versions helps to keep God's word fresh, and can help us to get greater revelation of His truth to help us move along the maturity path. For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energising, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of the joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 AMP Get a new devotional book, start listening to a new podcast God speaks through so many different people, in different ways for different purposes. I sometimes go to Koorong, knowing that I want to listen to someone I haven't listened to before, and I stand in front of the audio book section and say, "Holy Spirit, please show me who you want me to learn from," and he always directs me to exactly what I need to hear. Reading about or listening to other Christians who have done similar journeys As Victoria has grown older and started to process her journey in new ways, we have sought out the stories of other Christians who have faced challenges, particularly physical challenges. We are currently reading, Joni, by Joni Eareckson Tada. As we read how she coped, what God taught her, it has prompted discussion about what we have learned. It has also given us another example of how God has used what happened to her for good, just as He promises in Romans 8:28. So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God's perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose. Romans 8:28 TPT Sing a new song How blessed are we today to have access to a multitude of scripture based, Jesus inspired music. Again, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to something new. So many times, in my private worship time, I have heard a song for the first time and it has been like God has unlocked a little more of my heart with the lyrics and music. Or perhaps it is time for you to write your own song .... just a thought. Go-ahead - sing your new song to the Lord! Let everyone in every language sing him a new song. Don't stop! Keep on singing! Make his name famous! Tell everyone every day how wonderful he is. Give them the good news of our great Saviour. Take the message of his glory and miracles into every nation. Tell them about all the amazing things that he has done. Psalm 96:1-3 TPT Experiment with the times and places you talk to God I love routine. But I know that routine can stifle what God wants to do, because the truth is I can sometimes loves my routine (code word for control) more than God! So it is good to sometimes change it up, to have your quiet time in a new place, perhaps out in the garden or on a balcony. Look for a different time in the day to do a devotion, maybe while you are waiting in the car to pick up children. Give God space to talk to you in new ways. I am passionately in love with God because he listens to me. He hears my prayers and answers them. As long as I live I'll keep praying to him, for he stoops down to listen to my heart's cry. Psalm 116:1-2 TPT So in your life, if the storm is finished, and you are entering a new season, and you want to continue to grow your relationship with Christ, I pray that these practical ideas I have shared today will be a starting point. Even if they are just a prompt for you to say, "God, I want a greater intimacy with you, please show me how." He will answer you, because he wants that closer relationship with you. Be expectant and have courage to do what he shows you. He loves you. Look with wonder at the depth of the Father's marvelous love that he has lavished on us! He has called us and made us his very own beloved children. 1 John 3:1 TPT To find out more please visit https://wendyrobinson.com.au

On Butterflies of Wisdom today, Best-Selling Author, Win Kelly Charles and Juan Carlos Gill welcomes Victoria Hargis. At 30 years old… Victoria began a difficult transition for anyone ever to experience. After seven years as a loyal and faithful wife… Victoria became a young widow with two kids. Later the same year… One of the most devastating events in a parent’s life happened when Victoria heard the diagnosis that her youngest child was going to die. Her young son – Davey – was diagnosed with a severe seizure disorder called Lennox-Gestaut syndrome that caused frequent seizures to occur. Sadly, the disorder ended up by taking his life by the time he was 13 years old. Like a Christmas ornament dropped from the hands of a child, Victoria’s life had shattered into a million pieces of glass. As Victoria stared at the tiny glass shards that littered the floor, she realized that she would never be able to put her life back together.Victoria picked up one piece at a time to reconnect the broken parts of her. Suddenly it all clicked… the events formed the fabric of Victoria’s experience for many years. His death and Victoria’s grief can only be expressed as a life-shattering experience Victoria will never forget. Gluing Victoria back together took a long time. Victoria continued feeling broken until she was able to finally do the inner rebuilding work that needed to be done… Until Victoria finally made up her mind to reclaim the many parts of her, Victoria had left behind when she was only surviving. What does it take to succeed as a prime minister or party leader? And does the greater prominence of leaders represent a triumph of style over substance? In this video, Victoria investigates how the role of party leader has changed in recent decades. She considers the impact of different leadership styles and asks whether the more personal approach of some prime ministers is evidence our political leaders are becoming more presidential. What does it take to leave a legacy as a prime minister and what constraints do political leaders operate within? As Victoria shows, favourable circumstances are important for leaders but so too is a clear political vision, a strong grip on government and the ability to communicate effectively with the public.
