The Lakes International Comic Art Festival, the established annual celebration of prestige comic artists, creators and publishers, once again took over a picturesque town in the UK's Lake District... but this time they weren't setting up their stalls in Kendal. Instead, they had moved beside your actual lake - I know, how novel! - with LICAF holding court in Bowness-On-Windermere over the weekend of Friday 14th-Sunday 16th October. I wasn't able to make it to the rest of the weekend's festivities - missing, by all accounts, some amazing panels. signings and appearances by world-renowned comic superstars, a performance by Charlie Adlard and his band, karaoke that will only be saved in the memory of those there and some boozy nights! However, what I took in on the Sunday was more than enough to tell me that this iteration of The Lakes International Comic Art Festival continues in the trend of a very respectable and enjoyable comic celebration. During my day, I managed to speak to a number of creatives who had been exhibiting at the show, including illustrator extraordinaire Lyndon White, fresh off the back of a number of successful Kickstarter campaigns during lockdown - notably CANDLES and REANIMATOR, soon to gear up for another edition shortly. Lyndon talks to me about the move of the Lakes from Kendal to Windermere, how that affects any trade creators need to do to justify the transition, how the books have been received over the weekend and what's on the horizon for his work...
Dream a little dream of me. The Sandman is finally here! And Scott is joined by not one, but TWO fans of the original comic to talk about it. Lyndon White and Jillian Diblasio discuss the highs and...slightly less highs (because there aren't any real lows) of the new netflix show and bemoan the current state of DC films to boot.Edited by Alexandra MirabalTimecode:News - 03:40-16:31The Eyes are Wrong, The Comics, and The Set Up - 20:00Hell, The Corinthian, and Final Thoughts - 50:00

Lyndon White joins the Nerds again, this time to review Pan's Labyrinth. Lyndon is currently working on crowdfunding his latest graphic novel: "Candles". We have previously talked to him about that project, and you can find that episode by clicking here. It's 1944 and the Allies have invaded Nazi-held Europe. In Spain, a troop of soldiers are sent to a remote forest to flush out the rebels. They are led by Capitan Vidal, a murdering sadist, and with him are his new wife Carmen and her daughter from a previous marriage, 11-year-old Ofelia. Ofelia witnesses her stepfather's sadistic brutality and is drawn into Pan's Labyrinth, a magical world of mythical beings. This episode is a perfect example of why two fantasy nerds should not be allowed in the same room together! Scott is joined once again by writer and artist Lyndon White to talk about the Kickstarter for his much anticipated graphic novel, Candles. At least, that's what they were SUPPOSED to talk about. On episode 96 we chat to comic creator Lyndon White. Lyndon has been creating comics for over 8 years and has produced a huge range of comics and graphic novels including Sparks, The Mind of James Svengal and his latest book Candles. Candles, a fantasy epic about a young girl trying to save her drying village by stealing magic from an evil witch. Lyndon also discusses his comic degree and has some great advice for creators starting out in the comic world. You can find his book which is published by Cast Iron Books on kickstarter now. Pete and Mike are off this week however Pete has a kickstarter for a new project currently up and running. Back in the day, the determined funny book fan spent weekends and Summer holidays searching the shelves of every newsagent, paper shop and drug store for the fantastic thrill of discovering a full colour floppy bundle of joy that was a comic book. But occasionally, if you were lucky, you would hit the jackpot and find a sealed pack of childhood gold that was the comic pack. Not one, not two but three sensational stories for a bargain price, bagged and protected from the pawing of other collector's clammy mitts. Check it out on Kickstarter now, just search for Catfood Comics.Thank you for listening.http://www.comicartpodcast.ukTwitter: @comicartfestpodFacebook: Comic Art PodcastInstagram: ComicArtPodcastAlso on YouTubeFind all about the festival at http://www.comicartfestival.comLogo designed by Pete Taylor at http://www.thismanthispete.comContributions by Mike Williams (@CthulhuPunk) Pete Taylor (@thismanthispete) and Tom Stewart (@thatcomicsmell).Music Don't Fool Yourself used with permission by Pop Noir & Methylchloroisothiazolinone by Jo

Lyndon White joins us to talk about the 2011 psychological thriller drama, "We Need to Talk About Kevin". The screenplay was written by Ramsay and Rory Stewart Kinner, based on the novel of the same name. The movie stars Tilda Swinton, John C. Riley, and Ezra Miller. "Eva Khatchadourian is a travel writer/publisher who gives up her beloved freedom and bohemian lifestyle to have a child with her husband, Franklin. Pregnancy does not seem to agree with Eva, but what's worse, when she does give birth to a baby boy named Kevin, she can't seem to bond with him. When Kevin grows from a fussy, demanding toddler into a sociopathic teen, Eva is forced to deal with the aftermath of her son's horrific act." The artwork used for our episode cover and seen above we created by Jackson Ellis. I found this while creating the episode artwork and really thought it was better than the official movie poster. Originally recorded on the same day, the previous episode and this one are now being re-released as two separate episodes. We also talk about the 1990 American psychological thriller film Misery. It is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name and was directed by Rob Reiner. The film stars James Caan and Kathy Bates. "After a serious car crash, novelist Paul Sheldon is rescued by former nurse Annie Wilkes, who claims to be his biggest fan. Annie brings him to her remote cabin to recover, where her obsession takes a dark turn when she discovers Sheldon is killing off her favorite character from his novels. Here comes another double-header episode this week! First up is the return of Gilbert Deltrez, creator of several Indie comics I’ve really enjoyed, including Under the Flesh and Lair. He’s got a new one-shot called Pistolera described as “a blood-soaked tale of scorn and vengeance.” We talk about how he’s brought this tale to be as well as what we might expect from him in the months ahead. To support this project, go to Kickstarter at this link today! Then everything wraps up with my great chat with Lyndon White, an accomplished comics artist who has been publishing a series of what are called “concertina” books. He’s got a Kickstarter project going on right now for the latest one, and it’s about H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds. We discuss the series of books this one belongs with as well as how he put this fascinating concept together and what we might see from him in the future! To support his project, go to Kickstarter at this link today! Don’t miss it! Show your thanks to Major Spoilers for this episode by becoming a Major Spoilers Patreon member. It will help ensure Wayne's Comics Podcast continues far into the future!
