Career setbacks happen to everyone, but how you respond to them determines your professional trajectory and future opportunities. • The "tube top" comment highlights the importance of getting honest feedback after a rejection• One word in an interview (describing a workplace as "hostile") can sink your chances if the interviewer takes issue with it• Remember interviews are two-way conversations - you're also deciding if you want to work there• Always be kind to gatekeepers (receptionists, assistants) as they can significantly influence hiring decisions• Give yourself limited time (maybe 30 minutes) to feel disappointed, then refocus on moving forward• The rearview mirror is small and the windshield is large for a reason - look ahead more than behind• Building internal networks before positions open strengthens your candidacy when opportunities arise• "Emotional resonance" with colleagues often matters more than qualifications when candidates are similar• Congratulate the person who got the job you wanted - it shows maturity and teamwork• Repeated rejections may indicate blind spots you can't see - seek honest feedback from trusted leaders• Everyone successful has faced rejection - persistence and continuous improvement lead to eventual successThank you for listening! Brothers Sam and Ben Townsend from Universally Speaking podcast return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Sam’s choice Donnie Brasco. Donnie Brasco is a 1997 true crime drama based on the book Donnie Brasco: My Undercover Life in the Mafia by Joseph D. Pistone, and Richard Woodley and directed by Mike Newell. It stars Johnny Depp as Joseph D. Pistone, an undercover FBI agent, and Al Pacino as Lefty (“Horsecock”) Ruggiero the Mafia hitman he befriends to infiltrate the Bonanno crime family in the 1970s. According to Pistone, this film adaptation is 85% true to life, which bits though he never revealed. Donnie Brasco was received pretty well on release, however, given the legacy of Goodfellas and The Sopranos it feels pretty pedestrian and unremarkable watched in 2020. It certainly doesn’t sell the glamorous Mafia lifestyle as Goodfellas does. Scores  [supsystic-tables id=202] First-time watcher Kobi wasn’t entirely convinced and it is reflected in the scoring and not even dropping the f-bomb 185 times can make Donnie Brasco score higher than 3.55 overall. Brothers Ben and Sam Townsend from Universally Speaking podcast join Flixwatcher remotely to review Ben’s choice, Watchmen. The Watchmen in question is the 2009 Zack Snyder film based on the DC Comics of the same name by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. It stars Malin Åkerman (Silk Spectre II), Billy Crudup (Doctor Manhattan), Matthew Goode (Ozymandias), Carla Gugino (Silk Spectre), Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Comedian), and Patrick Wilson (Nite Owl II). Bringing Watchmen to the screen was never going to be an easy task, it was claimed to be unfilmable and took over ten years, and various directors to finally bring it to the big screen. The Snyder cut was never going to please everyone if it pleased anyone at all. Told through Bob Dylan’s The Times They Are a-Changin the opening credits rattle through the forming of the costumed Minutemen of the 1940s through to the arrival of the Watchmen and their involvement in the Vietnam War and their apparent downfall after vigilantism is made illegal in the late 70s. The main story begins in 1985 when The Comedian is murdered bringing the retired Watchmen back together to figure out who is on a mission to kill the remaining (anti) heroes. Scores  [supsystic-tables id=188] Lacking in subtlety and emotion Synder’s Watchman does pack a huge visceral punch. It’s loud, glossy, violent, and impossible to look away it is also a bit scrappy and favors style over substance. With a runtime of two hours and 40 odd minutes, you do have to commit but as a stand-alone film, for the most part, Watchmen does work. The recommendability for Watchmen from Flixwatcher and guests is mixed and it scores low on the small screen to give an overall score of 3.55. What do you guys think? Have you seen Watchmen? What did you think? First podcast of the New Year! Are you as excited as we are? You should be! This time around we have the boys from The Fox Hunt from West Virginia. Well, we don't have them right this moment, but we had them for awhile when they came through town to play a show with our friends The Magpies. Alas, much to our dismay, we had to release them back into the wild. But before we did, we got a podcast chock-full of fantastic old-timey music out of them. The Fox Hunt is made up of John Miller, Ben Townsend and Matts Klein and Metz. They have one album out, available on CD Baby with a few more slated for release throughout the year, so stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy the music in the podcast and try and forgive our less than sparkling conversational skills. Apparently, too much alcohol and too little sleep makes us less than brilliant. And check the boys out at: http://www.myspace.com/lefoxhunt
