Career setbacks happen to everyone, but how you respond to them determines your professional trajectory and future opportunities. • The "tube top" comment highlights the importance of getting honest feedback after a rejection• One word in an interview (describing a workplace as "hostile") can sink your chances if the interviewer takes issue with it• Remember interviews are two-way conversations - you're also deciding if you want to work there• Always be kind to gatekeepers (receptionists, assistants) as they can significantly influence hiring decisions• Give yourself limited time (maybe 30 minutes) to feel disappointed, then refocus on moving forward• The rearview mirror is small and the windshield is large for a reason - look ahead more than behind• Building internal networks before positions open strengthens your candidacy when opportunities arise• "Emotional resonance" with colleagues often matters more than qualifications when candidates are similar• Congratulate the person who got the job you wanted - it shows maturity and teamwork• Repeated rejections may indicate blind spots you can't see - seek honest feedback from trusted leaders• Everyone successful has faced rejection - persistence and continuous improvement lead to eventual successThank you for listening! Here's the truth nobody's telling you: You're stuck because you haven't recognized your own value. You want the people at work to notice you, but how can they recognize you if you don't even see yourself? In this episode of the Confident Woman Lead Podcast, Coach Anita gets real about the uncomfortable truth holding you back—and it's not your work ethic. You'll learn: Why hiding in the background and letting others speak for your work is costing you promotions and pay. How to stop looking for external validation and start owning your wins unapologetically. The role of self-recognition in shifting from “doer” to leader—and how to make that leap today. This episode isn't just talk; it's the wake-up call you need to rewrite your career story. You don't need more certifications, more long hours, or more waiting. You need to see yourself, speak like a leader, and step into rooms knowing you belong. If you're tired of feeling stuck in the middle, press play. It's time to move from overlooked to unstoppable. Let's get to work.

What can M&Ms, McDonalds, Harry Potter, Aquafina, Taylor Swift, Jeopardy, and Bed Bath & Beyond teach us about landing a dream job or securing a promotion? Plenty. Imagine you're at a job interview. You've rehearsed your answers, polished your resume, and you're feeling confident. But what if the key to landing that job isn't just about your skills and experience? What if it's about how you make people feel? How you make people feel is your brand, Zane says. That's what Leslie Zane, a Harvard Business School alum and prominent branding expert, talks about in this interview. She says that whether you're trying to get a new job, a promotion, or more customers for your small business, it all comes down to how you build your personal brand. Zane breaks it down into three main ideas: be salient, be relevant, and be distinctive. Being salient means making sure people remember you. It's not just about doing your job well, but about connecting with people all over your company. Zane gives an example of a dental hygienist who calls patients after their appointments to check on them and offer advice. This extra touch helps the hygienist stick in people's minds. Being relevant is about focusing on the good stuff. Zane says if you make a mistake at work, don't dwell on it. Instead, do more good things to push out the bad memory. She talks about how McDonald's dealt with rumors about "pink slime" in their food. Instead of denying it over and over, they started showing how they make their food with fresh ingredients. This helped people forget about the pink slime and think about good things instead. Being distinctive means standing out, but in a way that still feels familiar. Zane tells a story about the game show Jeopardy. When the longtime host Alex Trebek died, the producers tried inviting different celebrities to host the show. But viewers didn't like it. The ratings only rose when they chose Ken Jennings, a former champion contestant, as the new host. He was familiar enough that viewers felt comfortable with him. Zane also talks about how these ideas can help small businesses. She says it's important to reach out to new customers, not just focus on the ones you already have. She suggests finding ways to connect your business to things that people already enjoy. If you run an accounting firm in Kansas City, for example, you might talk about local sports teams or famous barbecue to help people feel a connection to your business. Throughout the interview, Zane emphasizes that building a strong personal brand isn't about bragging or being fake. It's about creating genuine connections with people and consistently showing your best qualities. You're creating buzz about yourself. The more positive connections you make, the stronger your brand becomes. Zane's advice goes against some common ideas about marketing and self-promotion. She says you don't need to stick to just one thing or only target a specific group of people. Instead, she encourages reaching out to as many people as possible and finding ways to connect your skills or business to things they already care about. In this episode, Dave and Jamison answer these questions: “I've been assigned a ticket to “add more friction to the downgrade process” in order to decrease the amount of downgrades our app has. The proposed change has 4 modals pop up before the user can cancel their paid plan. I would like to push back on this change. Any tips on how to bring up the fact that this is potentially unethical / a dark pattern?” I work for a mega corp software company as a senior engineer. My boss and I have been working on a promo for me to principal for the last year (I was passed on for the last cycle and so we are trying again in a cycle next year - aka still 8 months away). I previously was in the top 5 PR contributors in our org of 450 engineers, but we were reorged and I haven't written a single line of code in 3 months. I enjoy doing architecture work and helping unblock teams with technical design solutions, but I'm not sure if not writing code is helping or hurting me. Is it just part of career growth that engineers at a certain level stop writing code and it's a good sign for my seniority? Or is a big fat zero code contributions a red flag and I need to look for a role where I'm still shipping things myself?

Salespeople and leaders alike have access to great tech to simplify and streamline their processes. Tech, however, isn't everything – if a seller isn't spending much time selling, they're still not going to hit quotas. In this episode, your host Donald Kelly talks with Tiffani Bova about shaping the employee experience to drive success. The Connection Between Employees and Growth Employees drive revenue. Even though powerful tech is out there to help you sell, a salesperson only spends 28% of their time selling and 54% of salespeople miss quotas. If sales reps don't have the right tools and spend all their time doing administrative work, they're not providing an excellent customer experience. Salespeople aren't in control of the pitfalls in their tech, but they can help sales leaders understand what isn't working. The Employee Journey A lot of energy is often put into improving the buyer's journey. But the salesperson's journey needs to match. The more back-end work the employee has to do per each step of the buyer's journey, the lower their job satisfaction will be. Identify the steps in the seller's process, and ask if things can be automated, streamlined, or eliminated. Getting Promoted vs. Showing Leadership The higher up you get promoted, the more long-term you should be setting your sights. The C-suite should not be focusing on the day-to-day. Great sellers get promoted, but selling and managing are two different skills. Engage with employees about what their struggles and needs are. Try to offer solutions, and if you can't, at least you're aware of the situation. “We do not have a technology problem. We have a people and process problem.” – Tiffani Bova Resources The Experience Mindset by Tiffani Bova on Amazon https://www.tiffanibova.com/experiencemindset/ Tiffani Bova on LinkedIn @tiffanibova on Instagram Sponsorship Offers 1.
