Dear Spinning Circle,Today. On Wool n' Spinning Radio. Rebecca and I were so pleased to be able to record this episode with Lisa Schweitzer, a pillar and leader in our community. For those who haven't met Lisa yet, she is a weaver, handspinner, knitter and maker, long-time member of the Wool n' Spinning community and lives in a remote area of Iowa, USA. Lisa is an eloquant speaker and I hope you enjoy our conversation about making in remote locations. Both Rebecca and Lisa live in remote areas, without many urban amenities, guilds and makers within their immediate neighbourhoods. We started our conversation today with sharing what we are working on and then moved into a discussion about making in isolation. Lisa touches on why she makes and continues to share her makes. Because we recognize that many in our community make in many different types of isolation - whether physical, due to disability, remote locations, and many more factors, we wanted to discuss what this means when much of our interactions occur online versus in real life. Does this affect our making and how so?If you have questions about what we discussed in today's episode, please post them in the community, either as part of the Slack channel (available through Patreon) or on the Ravelry group, Wool n' Spinning.Patreon Post hereOf course, we would love to welcome you to our community. Michael pointed out that productivity often increases when focusing on the essential tasks, noting that remote work during the pandemic had eliminated many distractions and allowed for more straightforward work processes. Rebecca agreed, noting the importance of focus in maintaining productivity. Multitasking and Psychological Safety in the Workplace Rebecca argued that multitasking, such as responding to emails or texting while in a meeting, is not efficient as it distracts the brain's ability to focus on one task at a time. She suggested that this lack of distraction was a contributing factor to improved productivity. He argued that such an environment not only benefits employee well-being but also enhances retention and overall job satisfaction. Psychological Safety, Transparency, and Communication Michael and Rebecca discussed the importance of creating a psychologically safe and transparent work environment. Rebecca emphasized that clear communication about the company's vision and goals, and how employees' work contributes to these, is crucial for employee motivation and retention. Michael agreed, noting that clarity attracts while confusion repels. They then moved to discuss Rebecca's book, which was inspired by questions she received after speaking engagements. She shared how these questions led her to reflect on her own life and work experiences, and eventually led her to write the book. Collaborative Book Writing and Boundary Setting Rebecca shared the story of how she and her personal trainer, Lillian, collaborated to write a book about fitness and wellness. The book, which was completed in 10 months, was designed to be a quick reference guide, with short chapters and Lillian's input interspersed throughout. Michael then discussed the importance of setting and respecting boundaries, emphasizing that it's not selfish but necessary to maintain one's own well-being. He highlighted the common problem of overcommitment, especially among executives and startup founders. Both Rebecca and Michael underscored the importance of establishing boundaries and the need to approach it as a partnership. Michael emphasized the need to keep track of delegated tasks to avoid overworking employees. Rebecca suggested renaming the term "selfish" to "self-care" and introduced the concept of "pay yourself first," likening it to building wealth. They also discussed the "parking lot" strategy, where non-urgent tasks are listed and prioritized later. This strategy was praised by Michael, who shared his own experience of using a similar method to reprioritize his workload with his manager's help. They agreed that these strategies not only increase efficiency but also make employees feel more valued andCollaborate more effectively. Effective Communication and Four Pillar Culture Michael shared an observation about the importance of understanding and utilizing the rules in games like Monopoly to gain a strategic advantage. Rebecca then discussed the significance of effective communication in driving productivity, engagement, and motivation among team members. The regenagri podcast is a platform for leading industry experts to explore the future of farming and the hot topics surrounding the global movement of regenerative agriculture. In this episode, Rose Riley speaks to Rebecca Geraghty, chief commercial officer at UK-based agri-food data marketplace, Agrimetrics, and Michele Bandecchi, CEO and founder of soil intelligence business, Smart Cloud Farming, about the role of data and digital technology in the transition to regenerative agriculture. Rebecca and Michele discuss how sector innovations are helping farmers optimise sustainable farm management, while driving businesses in the supply chain to meet their environmental targets. Agrimetrics aims to accelerate new innovations in agri-food and environmental sectors by hosting and governing data – including the regenagri platform. Simply put, Rebecca says: “Having better data helps make better decisions.” Smart Cloud Farming aims to bring agronomy and AI together, to align soil intelligence and sustainable farming. Today on The Natural Birth Podcast we have Rebecca Rebecca is a mama of two from the UK, now living in Sweden with her Swedish husband. Rebecca and I met after Rebecca contacted me to be her Spiritual Midwife here in Stockholm, Sweden. At our first meeting we discussed her previous traumatic hospital birth and how this time she was considering free birthing as she didn't really want to go back to the hospital, but this was fully 100% aligned with Rebecca and not something that her husband was happy about. So we came to the conclusion that home birth with a registered midwife for safety was the way to go. As I am no longer a registered midwife after leaving Australia and moving back to Sweden, I helped Rebecca find a registered Swedish home birth midwife who carry medications and can provide that extra medical assistance in the rare chance that Rebecca or her baby needed it and I would assist Rebecca as her Spiritual Midwife, emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. With the presence of her husband, me and the other home birth midwife, Rebecca birthed her baby peacefully in her birth pool at home after a few days of prodromal labour. Both Rebecca and her husband were amazed at how peaceful and calm her birth was compared to her first hospital birth. And I feel so very blessed to have been invited into her home to sit with her at the birth altar. Curious about Rebecca? Find her on instagram as @rebecccaunderwood Now this redemptive physiological home birth experience that Rebecca had sparked an interest in her in becoming a sacred space holder for birth herself, which you hear us mentioning in the episode. And she is now applying to join the September Cohort of The Spiritual Midwife Mentorship Program. And I couldn't be more proud, honored and excited for her to join. Here is some feedback from one of my mentee's: To be a sacred space holder one must be a clear channel- this is not some woo-woo or foo-foo lingo. It's the truth. This requires a full on excavation of our cellular imprints, lineage traits, collective wounding; a house keeping effort that leaves no crack nook or cranny untouched. I have to be conscious of what I am bringing into that holy sacred vast and powerful portal that is birth. Every thread of energy matters. That means every intent, thought, action, word, and resonance. Every drop matters. So we unearthed Herstory, our red thread lineage, our own birth imprints, our blood rites or first menarche, our own birth portal experiences, our relationship to our bodies, sacred yoni's, sexuality and more. The container set and held is solid and deep. We get to be witnessed by a cohort of vetted sisters that have agreed to also take the plunge. We listen to each other with our full hearts. We get to be witnessed as we unravel and weave ourselves back together. This mentorship is most certainly not a “doula” training. Oh no. It is a soul calling. It requires 100% commitment to yourself, your future self and the women within the cohort. It is a reclamation of the Divine Feminine. It is a re-membering of the Matriarch. It is healing the collective Witch and Sister wound and so much more. If you would like to know what liberation looks, feels and tastes like; if you want to be a part of the true healing needed so desperately within humanity on our planet today; if you wish to serve at the birth altar or anywhere within its sphere- women's circles, preconception, pregnancy, postpartum, our blood rites, then I invite you to lean in. Anna has set a container that can hold you, wherever you may be along the path. If you feel the call, it's time to answer. Thank you so much Emily for sharing your experience of the mentorship with us. And yes, it's time to answer. The doors for the September intake are open. If you felt moved by this mentees words and feel a resonance and a yes then don't hesitate to apply to join us. Find All Links & Resources here: www.thenaturalbirthcourse.com/links
How did you feel about the 60 Minutes interview on LDS church finances that just aired? On this episode of Mormonish, Rebecca and Landon discuss the recent 60 Minutes segment featuring former Ensign Peak employee and whistleblower, David Neilsen's first ever on camer interview. We take a deep dive into the church's response to the accusation of misuse of funds, and dissect statements made by Bishop W. Chrisopher Wallen, who represented the LDS church in the segment. We also take an indepth look at response articles, podcasts, and the church's own statement following the interview. We especially pay attention to an article that came out on an apologist wevsite before the 60 Minutes interview even aired. Both Rebecca and Landon weigh in on the positive and negative take aways from the interview and talk about what a more positive future would look like in terms of church transparency and use of funds for charitable giving. We tried to keep our frustration to a minimum on air, but admit it was difficult. In this episode, we're hosting Tom Ruggieri & Rebecca Graff, founders of Fair Share Farm, an organic farm located in Clay County, Missouri. Both Rebecca and Tom left their white-collar jobs in 2000 to find a way to promote community, sustainable agriculture, and healthy eating habits as their livelihood. Fair Share Farm is now operating on land that has been in Rebecca's family for four generations. Organic farming methods replaced conventional agriculture in the Fall of 2002. Soil health is their top priority. To grow the best tasting produce they can, they add organic fertilizer, grow cover crops, balance minerals and spread compost. When dealing with disease and pest pressure, they use products approved for organic production. To limit these pressures, they keep the plants as healthy as possible with daily attention. Join us today to hear about how they have built and perpetuated this thriving organic farm from the ground up! You'll hear: Tom and Rebecca's background before becoming farmers 1:49 When the fermentation facility came on board 9:37 What they prepare with their stoveless kitchen 12:06 Fare Share's philosophy around crop production 18:19 How many of their crops go into a ferment compared to those that go to market 23:54 Size of the Fair Share team 27:19 How Tom and Rebecca manage tasks to ensure everything gets done 36:56 How Fair Share Farm goes about marketing 40:47 What they would change about how they started the farm, given the chance for a do-over 42:11 Rebecca and Tom's advice they would give their past selves at the start of their farming journey 48:19 What brings Tom and Rebecca joy on the farm 57:53 Their favorite farming tools 59:58 About the Guests Fair Share Farm is a diversified vegetable farm located in rural Clay County, Missouri that supplies vegetables for a live-culture fermentation facility on the farm, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables for market sale. Rebecca Graff and Tom Ruggieri farm 20 acres using sustainable practices within the 260-acre Graff family farm. Crops include annual vegetables, strawberries, asparagus, herbs, a flock of 75 laying hens and a small flock of sheep. In 2020 we reconfigured the farm by constructing over 7,000 linear feet of berms and swales to better manage water on the farm and improve our resiliency. Hundreds of chestnuts, persimmons, hazelnuts, paw paws and elderberries were planted as a part of this project. Rebecca shares her insights into the value of facilitated conversations with stakeholder groups and the challenge of facilitation in an era in which people are more focused on the screens of their mobile devices than to the people who may be sitting only feet away. She talks about integrating the richness and value of in-person experiences with online experiences that will reach larger numbers of people. This presents not only the challenge of asking questions to obtain useful responses across media, but also the challenge of interpreting data sets that will vary in both number and richness of data. Let's Talk IAP2 Last September at the IAP2 North American conference in Denver, IAP2 kicked off an examination of its organization and business model. This has been underway at an elite level, driven by a "Change Committee" drawn from North America, Australasia, Indonesia, Southern Africa and Latin America. This week, IAP2 sent an email to members like us inviting us to provide our input on a set of strategic directions that were established by the Change Committee. The intent is to gather member input via the Let's Talk IAP2 website for the next few weeks and then for a consensus decision from national and regional affiliate boards at IAP2 in Victoria. Both Rebecca and I are looking forward to providing our input. However, for me, the fact that IAP2 is consulting members so late in the process, and only consulting members, as opposed to the groups that it is "involving", such as trainers, or empowering (both of those terms are defined in the IAP2 spectrum) elevates my puzzlement at the top-focused nature of IAP2. It is the only membership-based organization that I have participated in that treats members as peripheral to decision-making. That's ironic, when you think about the mission and mandate embodied in the organization's name - the International Association for Public Participation. IAP2 is important to me -- I hope they get it right. Let's Talk IAP2 launched August 8 and runs to August 27. Find out more information at Let's Talk IAP2. Sidewalk goes off the rails? This week, we want to give a warm welcome to you, the listeners of the Practice of Being Seen Podcast, and the therapists who have journeyed alongside us in our POBS community. It is a gift to be able to hold this space so dearly as a place to grow and discover truth with all of you. Just as the POBS community has grown, Rebecca and Marisa have also been able to uncover hidden talents and dreams that need their own space to grow. With that realization came the knowledge that this POBS podcast and community will need to pivot. Over the next month, Marisa will be leaving the podcast to dig deep into her passion as a writer. Her vision is to grow not only in her own writing but to develop your writing as well. Rebecca will stay on with the Practice of Being Seen, she’ll continue to produce the podcast, and share her passion for serving other therapists through individual consulting and in a new mentorship program (sign up here to learn more). Both Rebecca and Marisa acknowledge that growth is difficult, change can be uncomfortable, and new directions seem uncertain. However, both of your hosts wanted to create space to hold those feelings and explore the healthy and powerful ways that new communities will be born from the amazing group of people already joined together around the POBScast. In this week’s episode, friend and colleague Patricia Young turns the tables to interview Rebecca and Marisa about the decision to part ways, as well as explore the new projects and dreams taking root. This is a space for transformation, so we invite you in to begin a change today! Re-visiting the vision for the Podcast and setting a vision for the future. Addressing unspoken expectations. Discussing the joys and the challenges of partnership. Where both Rebecca and Marisa want to go is different. The role of emotions in decision-making processes. Projects are growing! Hoping to see this as a model for others in the middle of a collaboration challenge. Marisa launching the Sovereign Writers Community. Stay tuned for the new Practice of Being Seen Community. The Revision Retreat will remain a joint venture!
