How do you know if you are ready to invest the time and energy into writing your book? What if you're not sure that you're “worth” it? Why is it so important to have support through the book-writing process? Bri and I spoke about her journey writing and editing her forthcoming nonfiction book. “As much as talent counts, effort counts twice.” ~ Angela Duckworth Guest Introduction: Grit, Grace and Gratitude: Navigating Emotional Wellbeing with Essential Oils is a new podcast series. Join me on this journey and learn the benefits of essential oils for your mind, body and spirit. Welcome to another episode of Exploring the Seasons of Life, a podcast for women with a big heart on a spiritual journey. I'm your host Cindy MacMillan and I'm joined today by Brianna Wilkerson. It can take a long time to figure out how life should be lived, so each week, I interview coaches, spiritual explorers and thought leaders from all walks of life about beginnings, endings and the messy bits in-between. Self-love, well-being, and mindset are at the heart of our conversations because once you change the inside, the outside will begin to change as well. I am delighted to introduce my guest, Brianna Wilkerson. Brianna Wilkerson is a Holistic Health and Life Coach, Essential Oils Advocate with doTERRA, podcast host, wife and momma, matcha tea lover, and at-home crossfitter. She helps women find peace with food, create healthy habits, and use essential oils confidently so they can feel better, have more energy, and take care of themselves and those they love. Here's a glimpse of our conversation: Friend, I know you're going to love this episode. I just know it. Brianna, welcome to the show. I am so excited for this conversation today. 4:46 I think every different season has something to teach us and something good to offer us and a way for us to grow. 8:28 For the last six and a half years, I've been teaching, I've been sharing, I've been using oils, and it's just been fun to see how now over time, our whole household like the first thing I go to when I'm when any of us need anything, whether it's, you know, some lotion to come at night or to or just like my daughter, like bit her lip, it's like something to help with, like, you know, the healing of the lip. It's like I go to essential oils. 10:35 I love the fact that every essential oil, whether it's a single oil or whether it's a blend has an emotional quality to it, you know, when we smell an oil, or we apply it topically, it works in our bodies to impact our mind and our mood, right. 11:40 Frankincense is kind of the known as the oil of divinity or oil of truth and where grace comes in is when we can really recognize the truth in a situation and really remain calm and grounded. And Frankincense is a beautiful one to support even physically, so your renewal and so it's a way to renew after needing a little bit more grace. 32:21 I really had struggled with my weight. And for a long time in my life and finding my worth in my weight, worth in how I looked, the size I was, it led to under eating, over eating, emotional eating, so many up and downs. When I could, when I finally found peace with food, in the sense, like food wasn't the enemy and it wasn't a friend, it was just something that I needed to fuel myself; something that could partner with me to nourish myself in the way I needed. That's when I started to like, realize, okay, I'm going to approach healthy eating not from a diet, I'm going to approach it from like, what's going to nourish me, and slowly change, change my habits. 35:44 Made Well actually came from the Bible, where Jesus, had gone to multiple people and said, you are made well or asking them “Do you want to be made well?” and I think that was it for me. Do I really want to be made well, or do I want to always struggle with this? And so, I was like, yeah, I do. And so that's when it started a different transformation. And I just felt like ultimately, my goal was to help women be made well. Do you find yourself constantly feeling like you're not doing enough? As women, and especially as moms, we often find ourselves unintentionally competing with others to keep up with societal expectations. We can get stuck in a constant state of “am I enough?” or “should I be doing more?” I am here to tell you, you are enough. You are doing amazing. You are killing it. What you want matters and you shouldn't just get the leftovers. And it's time to focus on you. Everyone needs to focus on self care, but that doesn't mean that everyone needs the same self care. Today, Brianna Wilkerson and I are discussing ways for you to take care of yourself, so you can support your family in the best way. That may look different for you than it does for the person next to you, and that's ok! Self care does not have to be massages and luxurious vacations. It can be whatever physical movement you can fit in your day. It can be focusing on fueling your body with foods that make you feel good. Self care is anything that helps you become the best you that you can be. Brianna Wilkerson is a Holistic Health and Life Coach, podcast host, wife and momma, matcha tea lover and at-home crossfitter. I had my biz bestie, Brianna Wilkerson, come on the show to talk about essential oils that can give you the energetic boost you need without the crash and damaging effect of energy drinks and other sugary beverages. I understand that essential oils may not help you pull an all-nighter but all-nighters are the worst. They rob you of brain cells and decrease cognitive function. Lack of sleep robs you in every way possible. However, if you are in a situation where emergency energy is needed, I have talked on the podcast before about yerba mate tea. On this episode, we also discuss essential oils to help curb burnouts and stress so make sure to share this with the folks in your family who are in need of a mini vacation. Make sure to register for the Summit Brianna is hosting, Your Healthiest Years Yet Summit happening October 18th-22nd. You are not going to want to miss this event, where I will be doing a talk on how you can afford to be healthy. My talk is a personal retreat so come with your favorite beverage and a journal. We are talking about self care and how to create your own personal path to health. The love that we feel about ourselves is largely down to the way that we look. This standard of validity has been imposed upon us by a diet industry that makes millions preying on people's need to ‘fit in'. When menopause hits and the weight goes on, many women and people exhaust themselves in an attempt to maintain those unrealistic standards of beauty, just to feel like they belong. If You Want To Find True Food Freedom, You Should: Stop associating your worth to your body, career, or anything else Check in with yourself before you eat something to make sure you are actually hungry Swap out your ‘unhealthy' food habits with habits that promote sustainable change one at a time Have you ever found yourself feeling like your worth is tied to your weight or what size you wore? The diet culture we face in the US is intense and unhealthy, so shifting your mindset around food and your body is an important part of self-love and self-acceptance. You Are Not Alone with Brianna Wilkerson Brianna Wilkerson is a Holistic Health and Life Coach who helps women find peace with food, feel confident in their bodies again, and develop a healthy lifestyle that's more than just about their weight. She is passionate about helping women invest in the things in their lives that truly matter and is here to be honestly vulnerable about the fact that you are not alone. Your Worth Is Not Dependent on Your Weight No matter what happens with your weight, your career, or your productivity, the people that love you will still be there for you. This is a very different narrative from the story society has told us that our worth is tied to our looks, youth, and success. The truth is, if we stopped spending so much time and energy hating our bodies, we would show up in the world in a radically different way. This is why we need to get real with ourselves about how we want to feel in our bodies to accept that our worth is absolutely not tied to our size. Finding Food Freedom Our relationship with food can impact everything from our emotional health to our dieting habits. By arming yourself with self-care rituals and checking in with yourself before emotionally eating, you can find ways to replace your not-so-good habits with ones that encourage sustainable change. Being proactive and setting yourself up for success is the best way to find your unique version of food freedom and can help you feel nourished in all areas of your life. Are you ready to break free from emotional eating and longing to find peace with food? Share how you will shift your mindset and swap habits that help you appreciate your worth with me in the comments section of the episode page. Quotes: “My worth is not in my weight, and it is not in the size, shape, or scale number I am at.” (10:01) “I have had to ask myself, ‘are you really hungry? Or are you just tired because of the nature of your life right now?'.” (25:22) “Essential oils really do help your mind, body and soul!” (30:23) “When you add certain things in, your mind and your schedule can only do so much, so you crowd certain things out. That's the only way to swap a habit is to bring in a new one.” (33:56) “I saw that there are seven areas where we all have a relationship with the impact of food freedom. Your relationship with diets, your weight, food, your body, yourself, exercise… and how we handle our emotional health.” (42:46) In This Episode Mindset shifts that can help you realize your worthiness as you are (12:08) How to handle the emotional component when taking care of and nourishing your body (19:25) Tips for navigating your relationship to food as a tool of comfort (23:51) The role of essential oils when taking care of your mind, body, and soul (30:08) How to find true food freedom (42:00) Resources Mentioned: Dr. Mariza's Daily Self-Care Journal Get Your Food Freedom Journal Here Made Well Website More Than Your Weight Podcast More Than Your Weight Women's Community Follow Brianna on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes: Essentially You #281: How to End Emotional Eating Now with Tricia Nelson Essentially You #271: Change Your Life by Cultivating More Self-Love and Self-Compassion with Kerry Tepedino

Food as Comfort She stated that a few years later food became something she went to for comfort. And regained all of the weight she had lost as well as a lot of shame and guilt. She noticed starting the dieting cycle for many years in attempts to fix feelings of shame. She stated that an important shift was to re-connect with her faith and find her worth and her value in things that were not food or body related. Finding Peace with Food and her Body She stated that she did eventually lost weight and maintained that weight loss for 7 years prior to having her daughter recently. Welcome to episode 5 of the “How She Did it” mini-series where I'm interviewing 8 inspiring women who have kindly agreed to share their stories about how they found their passion and purpose, started their businesses and left their day jobs. Today I'm speaking to Brianna Wilkerson and Brianna is sharing her story of how she found her purpose through healing her own relationship to food and her body, and how this inspired her to want to help other women with these struggles. We talk about: How Brianna started to train as a coach, and then started her business, alongside her full-time job That you're already successful if you've found your calling and you're doing it - no matter what your journey looks like How businesses have different seasons and sometimes we might need to scale back - especially when having a baby and running a business. Every one of us has a business inside of us that we can start using our own life experiences. Brianna never thought of herself as an entrepreneur, but this calling kept welling up inside of her and she knew she had to listen to it. Money worries and blocks, the thoughts of “do I have what it takes to run a business?”, and the fear of making the wrong decision. How we can shift from an employee to entrepreneur mindset Be careful not to get stuck in planning and overthinking everything - the clarity you are looking for comes from action! The key to building your audience is to let people get to know us so they can make a connection with us - and this requires us to overcome our fears of visibility. It's such a great conversation and I know you will take away so much from it.
