Here's the harsh truth: most of what's marketed as “healthy” in today's society is actually just ultra-processed junk in disguise. Happy Satiated Saturday! It can be confusing what path to choose for your food recovery when there are many different paths you can walk. When exploring all the various avenues, you can focus on your experience of choice. There is no "right" way to decrease your food coping mechanisms. It gets to be unique to you, your body, and what supports you in feeling the way you want to feel in your life. Your recovery resources are your choice (something that the experience of trauma can feel like it took away from you). When trying out any somatic, nervous system, trauma, parts practices, you can observe how you feel before, during, and after to discover which practices resonate with you. You will receive this bodily feedback by tracking your capacity to flow through dysregulation, big emotions and sensations, and what helps you to return to yourself again and again. In this week's episode, I chat with Caroline McNally, Hypnotherapist & Longevity Coach, about: Hypnotherapy resources you can use on yourself to navigate food urges and impulsesUtilizing visualization for navigating your relationship with foodThe importance of laughter on this healing journey Reminding yourself that you have a choiceYou can also read the transcript to this week's episode here: https://www.stephaniemara.com/blog/food-cravings-with-self-hypnosis-resources6 more days to sign up for the Somatic Eating® Program! An episode from The Holistic Navigator. This is not to diagnosis or treat any disease/illness. Consult your physician before taking supplements or medications OR before you stop taking medications. This is for entertainment/informational purposes only! One of the biggest resolutions people typically have is to eat healthier and lose weight. There's plenty of reasons why many of us over eat, but much of it comes down to the foods we crave. There's an addictive quality to food whether we want to admit or not and saying no to unhealthy snacks and meals can prove extremely difficult. On this week's episode Ed addresses why we crave particular foods and gives a few easy to implement tips to help reduce those cravings. There's always a fair amount of self-control that needs to happen when trying to change our eating habits, but these small steps can make that journey much easier. Some Topics We Discuss: Why is food addictive? (3:30) How does sugar consumption affect our brain? (4:45) What are Ed's 5 tips to reduce food cravings? (11:43) What is intermittent fasting? (22:15) How to do cheat meals without falling back into your old ways? (28:04) Some Key Takeaways from this Episode: We have to define hunger pain or is it an addiction that is clicking in your brain? (3:28) Self discipline is not the answer to removing food addictions. It's changing your blood's chemistry. (7:24) The most common reasons in blood chemistry why people suffer from food additions are issues and imbalances involving insulin, glucose, your adrenals and the weakness of a hormone called leptin. (10:11) Stop eating breakfast, and start drinking it. (15:41) Please consider leaving us a review on Apple and giving us a share to your friends! This podcast is powered by ZenCast.fm

Welcome back, friends. I'm exploring what happens to our food cravings when we're exhausted. Why is eating and choosing food such a chore when we're fatigued? How does it affect our decision-making? We've all been there, overwhelmed and bone tired, staring at the kitchen and thinking the only option is the fast option. But we've been made to feel guilty about that. Like we're failing when we can't face food choices due to exhaustion. I'm talking about self-compassion in those moments instead. I'll explain why fatigue affects hunger and decision-making and then we'll see why the fast option in those times is perfectly acceptable. The first thing to note is that fatigue affects intuitive eating in a few ways. Our hunger and fullness hormones become unbalanced when we're fatigued and the result is that we feel hungrier than usual and it takes more food than usual to make us feel full. It's our bodies trying to get more energy because we're running on empty. Once we understand what happening we can give ourselves more of a break. When we crave carbs and sugar while exhausted or don't have the ability to make meal choices, it's because our intuitive eating signals are mixed up by our exhaustion. And that's okay. How do we deal with those feelings? And how can we make simple fast food choices without feeling guilty? I'll share my personal journey with those feelings and some pointers that work for me.__About Dr. Michelle Tubman:Dr. Michelle Tubman is certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine, which means she understands exactly what's happening in your body when you diet. The amount of overdose deaths in the U.S. is staggering. And while addiction is a disease, there's no specific medical treatment or cure for it. Our guest this week points out that weight loss drugs and GLP-1s, or glucagon-like peptide-1s, which are used to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity, can be effective for helping people reduce cravings and consumption of drugs, alcohol and compulsive behaviors like gambling. Nick Reville is the cofounder and executive director of the Center for Addiction Science, Policy, and Research (CASPR).
