Join Jillian and Jerry in the final episode of Season 3, as we get into the mind of the dirty bread eating psychopath, Cory, as he runs amok on everyone he once claimed to care about. Meanwhile Topanga is old enough to work, but instead is going to camp as a camper, instead of a CIT or counselor, so...that happens. Shawn is there. Eric can't figure out when to leave, but as long as he gets to enjoy his little birthday graduation goodbye celebration party, then everything is right with the world. Aliens have replaced Bad Morgan with just plain ol' New Morgan, but that doesn't mean much... So join us as we watch our favorite brothers do some stuff and hopefully not end up shooting a movie or TV show in Georgia, cos they think they're so cool, takin' up the whole screen in the end credits at the strangest times, while every other city, town, state, commonweath or whatever that any production films in, takes a small piece of real estate at the very end. Whatcha gonna do when you don't get into college, brother?!?! Well, Eric is going to go on a solo road trip across the country. Shawn is heading out on the road with his Dad and Topanga is going to camp which leaves Cory all alone. He gets emo about it but eventually consoles his brother and gets invited to tag along on Eric's trip. The Matthews have a lot of trust in two kids who have repeatedly shown they cannot be trusted. Author Dan Duffy shares his writing journey and the back story of Brother Brother, a fictionalized memoir recalling his lifetime search for his older brother who headed west following his tour of duty in Viet Nam to establish a commune and disappeared. Dan adds plans to his retirement from college administrator for continuing his search and his writing through Kindle Vella. Kindle Vella invites writers to share pieces of longer works in serialized fashion to inspire writers and help them to capture audiences. While not his brother's keeper, Dan honors his brother's memory in attempting to find his own peace through remembrance.
On this episode we discuss the Nick Gage vs Matt Cardona match, Jay White at Impact, Malakai Black digging his new surroundings, Britt Baker being a complete bad ass, Summerslam and much more.
Frederik - Se Jokin Minulla On (1975) The Locomotion in Finnish. Alice Babs - Been To Canaan (1973) Pretty Purdie and the Playboys - You've Got A Friend (1971) Carole King - Child of Mine (1970) Design - I Feel The Earth Move (1973) The City - Now That Everything's Been Said (1968) From the great Light In The Attic website: By the mid-‘60s, King's marriage to Gerry Goffin, with whom she'd written many of those wonderful hits, had hit the rocks. A divorce loomed, and King all but retired to raise their two daughters. She headed west to Laurel Canyon in ‘67, taking the children with her, and made the previously unlikely move of joining a progressive folk-rock band. King formed The City with future husband Charles Larkey on bass and Danny Kortchmar on guitar and vocals. With King on piano and vocals, they created a folk-rock sound that pre-empted the singer-songwriter boom of the ‘70s. Produced by Lou Adler and featuring Jimmy Gordon on drums, The City's sound is deep and soulful, imperfect but passionate. And the songs, with King writing or co-writing all but one, are as exceptional as you'd expect and as widely covered as her factory work. “Now That Everything's Been Said” was a hit for American Spring [Ed: That was the band that Brian Wilson produced, featuring his wife Marylin and his affair d'couer, his sister-in-law Diane.], “A Man Without A Dream” was tackled by The Monkees, and “Hi-De-Ho (That Old Sweet Roll)” was a hit for Blood, Sweat & Tears. Central to the album's appeal is King's own stirring reading of her track “Wasn't Born To Follow,” covered masterfully by The Byrds for the Easy Rider soundtrack. King had been used to a life on the sidelines, and her stage fright left the trio unable to tour the LP which adversely affected their fortunes. That, plus some behind-the-scenes distribution problems, meant the album was quickly deleted, and it remained so for the next thirty years–partly at King's request. Even so, its failure was a surprise to those concerned. “I was 26 when Now That Everything's Been Said was released in 1968,” King says of the album. “[We] expected it to zoom to the top of the charts within, at most, a few weeks. Individually and together, we optimistically imagined the album's success as if it had already happened. Danny and Charlie kept telling each other, 'It's a great album. The City is gonna be Number 1 with a bullet!'" Frances Yip - I Feel The Earth Move (1973) The Isleys - It's Too Late (1972) From one of my favorite pages, Wilson and Alroy's Record Reviews: Their review of Brother, Brother, Brother (two stars out of five) This is the kind of thing you can do when you own your record company: the Isleys turn over half the running time to three Carole King covers ("Brother Brother," her then-current hit "Sweet Seasons," and a ten-minute version of "It's Too Late"). All of which are calming and pretty but not particularly moving, similar in style to Givin' It Back but not quite as rough. Those numbers are complemented by some funkier tunes more reminiscent of Get Into Something, including the single "Pop That Thang," "Love Put Me On The Corner," and the propulsive "Work To Do." More than anything, this is transitional, pointing out the direction that was to pay off far better commercially and artistically starting with the next studio album. The younger crop of Isleys played most of the instruments again but still received no producing or arranging credits. Carol Burnett - It's Too Late (1972) Jerry Butler - So Far Away (1972) Daffi Von Cramer - Locomotion (1972) Lone Kellerman - Kom An Baby (1977) Mike James Kirkland - It's Too Late (1973) Nora Aunor - Sweet Seasons (1972) Known as "The Grand Dame of Philippine Cinema" for her contribution to the Philippine film industry. Aunor has released more than 360 singles and recorded more than 200 songs and over 50 albums. She has notched more than 30 gold singles and with an estimated gross sales of one million units, Nora's cover of "Pearly Shells" (1971) is one of the biggest-selling singles in the Philippines. Due to a botched cosmetic surgery in Japan while endorsing a cosmetic surgery clinic based in Shinagawa and Makati, her vocal cords were damaged and she cannot sing due to paralysis of her left vocal cords. Peter Nero - Jazzman (1975) Rita Coolidge - One Fine Day (1979) Carole King - Pierre (1975) Marlena Shaw - So Far Away (1972) Vikki Carr - So Far Away (1971) Carpenters - One Fine Day (1973) The City - Snow Queen (1968) The City - I Wasn't Born to Follow (1968) The Counts - Jazzman (1974) The Lettermen - You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Man (1970) Tiiti - Sata Kettaa (1979) Carole King - Time Gone By (1979) The Anita Kerr Singers - You've Got A Friend (1973) Stanislaw Sojka - You've Got A Friend (1979)

Here's the deal, much like our current economy, news from the music industry has significantly slowed down over the past 4-6 weeks. Additionally, with everyone being cooped up in their homes, we've discovered that our families are actually more fun to talk to then we probably would have admitted a few months ago...so, this week we bring some of those conversations to you.We each have little brothers that have surpassed us, in terms of intelligence, influence and success. In normal times, all of them are too busy to listen to our show, but these, dear listeners, are not normal times. So we thought we'd have them on to talk about how they're coping with the social isolation & what music they've been listening to during all of this.First up, we meet Nick's little brother Alex, beloved by the family as the 'goofy one' until he ran off to West Point and got all successful...he brings goofy side back though and we chat about the music that's he's enjoying alongside his wife, 4 kids and a dog (hint, Tool).Next, we give Jay's brother Daniel Pflager a ring and ask him how he's holding up in NY City, working at NYU Medical, & what music he's turned to as he watches all this unfold around him.Greg's brother Austin closes us out with some tasty new music he's been making with his band The Austin Loman Project. We find out near the end that he has perfect pitch, so we're excited to come up with a future game show involving that :-)As always, thank you for listening. Stay safe everyone!
India Prime Minister Narendra Modi is incredibly popular within India's diaspora. But how can one support tolerance and immigration within the context of the US or UK, and at the same time support the bigotry and Islamophobia of Modi's BJP Party in India? To explore this paradox I spoke w. Eviane Leidig, a researcher at The Center for Research on Extremism (C-REX). We discuss the rise of the BJP, its growing ties with other global far-right leaders like Trump and Boris Johnson, and how industries like Silicon Valley are crucial to spreading its toxic message of neoliberalism and islamophobia. For more on these subjects, I highly recommend checking out Eviane's website: https://www.evianeleidig.com/ Lastly, for four more sources, I highly recommend • Neha Dixit for understanding the scope of violence currently being unleashed by the BJP in India • Dr. Aihwa Ong for her examinations of how neoliberalism affects immigration policies. • Soumya Shankar. (Her work at The Intercept) is also outstanding. • Dr. Kecheng Fang on the rise of Ethnosupremacy & Right Wing Economics in China. So, here's the thing, the 'boys only spend approximately 11 seconds of this episode talking about WWE because everyone knew the main event topic of discussion was gonna go the distance, and it was a sure-thing 6+ Star classic in the making, BROTHER BROTHER! AKA: New Japan Pro Wrestling done did it again with Wrestle Kingdom 12 and further cemented January 4th as Wrestling Christmas each year. Hear the 'boys break down the best thing since Sliced Trent(?), which matches they liked, which they liked more, and which they liked most, as well as Beautiful (Fake) Hair, the constant reinvention of Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega's big cosplay gun, and of course, Cheeseburger. Brother Brother is lucky enough to sit down with a lot of the "Kool Kidz". This episode is no different. Brandon and Alicia of the Reggae/Rock/Dub/Funk/Rap band Indyca join us. Another of Indianapolis' power couples in the entertainment world, they not only front the band but also have their talented hands in a few other things. We are looking for to seeing a few things from these guys this summer.

We had technical difficulties with this episode, which is why it is delayed and why we had to use the blab.im audio instead of our normal mic recordings. Coming up this week on "What's The Finish?", Hulk Hogan has his day in court, Jian Ghomeshi has his day in court as well, Chris has something new to debut, Garry Shandling has passed away, Snoop Dogg is going into the WWE Hall of Fame, and we are joined in studio by world traveler Heath Johnson. … and so we kick over into a new year, 2015. I keep a black moleskin with all of my various projects, initiatives, goals, and hair-brained schemes in it. I'd say we got through quite a few last year, from a revamped website to some new equipment, and finally to building a makeshift stage and video studio down in the secret underground bunker we call "Indy In-Tune Studio B." This year, the goals are fewer, and possibly less-ambitious. Put simply, my goal this year is to be as busy as humanly possile. Specifically, I want to be at 250 podcasts, 50 mini concerts, and as much archived on-air fun as I can accumulate under the belt by this time next year. Why? Because it has not escape my attention that after 9 years, I should be coming up on episode #450, and in the past two years that veritable conucopia of weelkly shows that have popped up (Free Beer Express, Brother Brother, Chris Brake Show, DoIt Indy, et al.), and some of them are already approaching their 100th episode. That part of my brain that's ruled by numbers tells me that this is unacceptable. I am the longest-standing podcaster in Central Indiana, I should have an episode count that inspires awe. So if anything, as I've always said, I love the fact that shows like those come along, since they make me step up my game. 2015 kicks off with our third visit from the great Bashiri Asad, this time in support of his brand new release, "Bashiri Asad Presents the Gil Suite: A Toast to Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson." This is an amazing album he has put together as part of his "Year of Tributes" (more on that during the interview) and features some top-notch talent from around our scene including, but not limited to, Brandon Meeks, Devon Ashley, Justin Brewer, Rob Dixon, Nick Gerlach, Max Allen, Phil Geyer, and Ashton Kleeman. He joined us in the studio with guitarist John Fell where he gave an impromptu acoustic set of numbers spaning all of his releases. How's that for kicking the year off with a bang? Links referenced in the show: Bashiri Asad can be found here: | | The first three tracks were recorded live on the air in the studio and are presented in their original raw format, just they way they aired -- mostly because I'm not a producer. Bashiri is accompanied by on guitar for these tracks. Apologies for the webcam blips, beer bottle clanks, and awe-inspired whispering in the background.
