Today on Too Opinionated we sit down with author David Banks to talk about his first book, The Meeting of the Five: Convergence. In the days when prophecy becomes reality, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse walk among us wearing human faces. Bound by destiny and divine purpose, these harbingers of the end times find themselves drawn together on an inexorable journey toward their final meeting. As War's conflicts rage within, Death grapples with the weight of his eternal duty, Pestilence seeks understanding in suffering, and Famine witnesses humanity's deepest hungers. But even in these darkest of days, hope persists. As the Antichrist rises and the Horsemen converge, unexpected encounters with the Son of Man himself reveal that even in apocalyptic times, redemption casts light into the deepest shadows. This haunting tale weaves together biblical prophecy with deeply human struggles, asking what it means to be both divine messenger and mortal vessel when the fate of all hangs in the balance. In this masterful exploration of faith, destiny, and the power of hope in the face of devastation, the end of all things becomes a beginning no one could have foreseen. Why immersion — and not realism — is critical for wargaming

Despite centuries of experience designing and playing war games, there is still very little rigorous research on how to evaluate what makes a good game. What's the design goal? How much should (or even can) a game reflect reality? Are tighter or looser rules more likely to lead to productive learning? Is having fun important? That lack of rigorous analysis has historically stymied the wargaming profession, but a new generation of researchers want to push the field forward.Today, with both Danny Crichton and Laurence Pevsner on vacation, we bring back our independent Riskgaming designer Ian Curtiss to host David Banks. David is senior lecturer in wargaming at the Department of War Studies at King's College London, where his research focuses on the empirical evaluation of war games and how the craft can evolve in the years ahead. He is also the academic director of the King's Wargaming Network.Ian and David discuss the antecedents of wargaming, firming up the foundations of the field, why realism isn't as useful a metric as engagement, why balancing play and realism is so challenging, how to consider internal validity in games and why its important not just to evaluate a game as a whole, but also its constituent parts.Produced by Christopher GatesMusic by George Ko

Making Mobility Great Again, One Prosthesis at a Time   When I walked into The Limb Center office prior to amputation I met Randy West and David Banks for the first time.   They are a Phoenix based company   From that moment on, they were there for me, reassuring me that I could do this, that they would make sure I had the best fit and they asked about my hopes and dreams as I entered amputee life, allowing me the space to dream and hope as large as I could. And they delivered, over and over again!     Getting a prosthesis is a process, and it takes time (and patience). It's not a one and done, and these guys aren't just fitting a leg and walking away. They are there for future care and concerns!   About a year after my amputation they started talking to me about this idea they had for a non-profit, that they wanted to help more people that were struggling and in need of an advocate in their corner. I knew that this would take flight, it was just a matter of when. Their business was growing quickly since I got on the scene, they had families of their own, and we knew time was limited and precious. A couple more years went by and now they are officially a non-profit, Limbs For Humanity, and I couldn't be more excited and proud of them.   Rocky Point Medical Clinic     Today I want to introduce Randy and David to you, allow them to tell their story, and let you hear their hearts. Join me in celebrating their dream that helps others realize their full potential. These guys don't just make prosthesis for people without the means of getting one, they allow people to dream, become mobile once again, and get them back to being productive members of society, many of which would be helpless to achieve that without the proper parts and a whole lot of money-prosthetics are NOT cheap. Not only are they bringing mobility back to individuals who are in need, they are also relieving stressors and depression that can take hold of someone, post-amputation.  Mental health is at risk when we are left to feel that we cannot help our families, our communities, or our employers. What Randy and David do is change lives, one appointment and one prosthesis at a time.   A young boy getting the help he needed in their Phoenix office     You can be a part of this monumental changing of lives. Here's how: 1-SHARE, SHARE, SHARE! Share this podcast, share their story, share their links with everyone you know. 2-Donate money! Prosthesis are so expensive, and this is usually the roadblock for many amputees on why they can't get one, or get one that is suited for their level of activity and lifestyle. If you have even a dollar to share, It will go to funding a new leg for someone in need. If you know of, or work for a company that is looking for a great way to donate each year, please consider sharing this with whoever is uncharge of donations. Limbs For Humanity takes a village to make a difference. 3-Donate parts! If you are an amputee or know of one who is not using an old leg, foot, liners, etc, please reach out to them or myself to see if we can use what you have laying around. You may have received a new leg or foot, and there is someone in the world in desperate need of it. Let's put everything to good use. With your help, you could change someone's life forever!   Limbs For Humanity, is truly what they are, we all should have the basic human right/need of mobility available to us. It changes lives, it brings hope and joy, it allows people to be productive and feel useful once again. Check out their Instagram, Facebook pages, YouTube and TikTok pages: @limbsforhumanity Also, go to their website: Limbs For Humanity to see stories of them changing lives, and ways you can help. In the headlines on #TheUpdate this Wednesday, the head of New York City's public schools system, David Banks, said that he will step down at the end of the calendar year, becoming the latest high-ranking departure from Mayor Adams' administration amid escalating federal criminal investigations. CUNY's online campus reporting system for antisemitism complaints is so outdated and riddled with confusion that it should be “completely overhauled,'' according to independent state probers. And in Decision 2024, from former President Donald Trump to Ohio Senate candidate Bernie Moreno, male Republican candidates are struggling to speak to female voters, using language criticized as tone-deaf and patronizing as they try to win support from women and speak to issues important to them.

Sometimes you have to step back and look at the things that happened, in order to understand the present. Admittedly, things move SO FAST that it's difficult to keep up, much less try to assess things. I remember when I tried to cover the news as it hit. It came at me with SHOCK AND AWE. It's never timely, because by the time my show aired, it was old. Or it happened too early and it wasn't heard on my show. It's truly 24-hour news, and thus radio can't keep up. So now we follow it on X or wherever. But for two hours a day, I get to INTERPRET the news.   Facebook scrubbed his site, and I hear Google won't allow you to find much in a search about the guy.   Murders on NYC subways up 60% Judge in Cuyahoga County declared the Bianca Ellis who stabbed and killed a child to rehab hospital A Michigan city banned the flying of the LGBT flag. No exaggeration, but there are more dunks in the NBA in ONE GAME than there are in the entirety of the WNBA's existence. Look it up. The same FBI who worked with the Biden administration to improperly target Donald Trump, and actually issued a "kill order". So the DOJ went after Hunter Biden. But only after getting caught trying to allow Hunter Biden blanket immunity for his crimes. And even with the recent guilty plea to one of the far lesser crimes by Hunter Biden, we don't know his punishment. My bet is Hunter gets a slap on the wrist. While some may consider the FBI finally providing evidence against Hunter Biden as the agency doing its civic duty, this came only after the fatwa was issued against Joe Biden and he got officially ousted. Only at that point did Hunter Biden become fair game. Also, he provided a timely distraction from major problems inside the Democratic Party. However since Democrats' problems continue, other distractions are needed. Thus, Democrats made a call to the scapegoat farm. Who better a scapegoat than the man who helped Republicans build a case around illegal immigration. And in the iconic city of New York. The case against New York Mayor Eric Adams has been brewing for some time. But Democrats are smart about media cycles and fake narratives, which is why they are about to take Hunter Biden off the chopping block and replace him with Adams. On Thursday, the FBI has reportedly executed a search warrant and seized the cell phones of the NYPD Commissioner as well as several other high ranking officers. As an acquaintance of mine commented, "Something MASSIVE is happening in NYC." This latest raid occurred only hours after top aides of Democrat Mayor Eric Adams had their homes raided by the feds. In a coordinated series of moves, FBI agents seized the phones of at least four top aides to Mayor Eric Adams, including three who oversee the NYPD, in a major new federal probe of City Hall. Clearly, people in high places have issued a political kill order on Eric Adams. Early Wednesday morning, according to the https://nypost.com/2024/09/05/us-news/fbi-raids-home-of-nypd-commish-edward-caban-other-close-eric-adams-allies/, federal agents fanned out across the city with search warrants and subpoenas, going after https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/07/who-is-edward-caban-the-new-nypd-commissioner.html, the police commissioner (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-09-05/federal-agents-search-homes-of-nypd-commissioner-adams-aides?utm_source=website&utm_medium=share&utm_campaign=twitter), https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/timothy-pearson-accused-of-sexual-harassment-report.html; a mayoral adviser with significant influence over the department; https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2022/07/where-is-phil-banks.html, the deputy mayor for public safety; and Sheena Wright, the first deputy mayor. Terence Banks, a lobbyist, are also under scrutiny. The searches were first reported by https://www.thecity.nyc/2024/09/05/fbi-raids-homes-of-two-top-eric-adams-aides/. Investigators are said to have sought electronic devices, including phones, in a probe by Manhattan federal prosecutors that remains shrouded in secrecy. The searches appear to be unrelated to the U.S. attorney office's https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/investigation-of-eric-adams-campaign-turkey-what-we-know.html into Adams's 2021 mayoral campaign concerning links to Turkey, according to a source familiar with the matter, suggesting that this is likely a separate probe.   The people targeted by federal investigators this week are among the closest to the mayor, both professionally and personally. I wonder if Adams and his satellites had time to destroy their mobile phones, bleach bit their hard drives, and delete a few thousand emails. Then again, that type of activity constitutes white privilege, and as it happens, all the people targeted are black. The article continues, Pearson served in the NYPD with Adams for decades and is said to wield a great deal of influence; one former official described him to https://www.politico.com/news/2023/04/14/timothy-pearson-powerful-new-yorker-00091862 last year as “without a doubt the most powerful person in City Hall besides the mayor himself.” Recently, he has been the center of controversy after facing a series of lawsuits alleging sexual harassment and retaliation against former subordinates. He was also https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/10/top-eric-adams-adviser-under-investigation-for-shoving-guard.html by the city for an altercation last year in which he was accused of shoving a security guard at a migrant shelter. Phil Banks may rival Pearson in terms of power. (It is unclear if David was targeted by investigators.) “Investigators have not indicated to us the mayor or his staff are targets of any investigation. As a former member of law enforcement, the mayor has repeatedly made clear that all members of the team need to follow the law,” Lisa Zornberg, the mayor's chief counsel, said in a statement. For the record, I have no sympathy for Adams or any Democrat who may get caught up in scandal. I believe almost all of them are crooks. As I reviewed the list of players, it's obvious that Adams placed "friends and family" in some of these positions. But I do see the hypocrisy, particularly the racial hypocrisy of Democrats. Regardless, Adams put up a brave front, https://x.com/JCColtin/status/1831788802551202231, “Whatever information that's needed, we're going to turn it over, and I'm going to continue to be the mayor of the City of New York.” If we've learned anything over the 8 years since President Trump was elected and deposed, if the cabal wants to get you, it's almost impossible to escape. Two weeks ago, Adams and his campaign committee https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/eric-adams-hit-with-subpoena-in-federal-corruption-probe.html with grand-jury subpoenas in connection with the federal government's ongoing inquiry into his 2021 mayoral campaign and its ties to Turkey. Now this is a stretch to say the least and reeks of sabotage. Anyway, prosecutors are said to be looking into whether Adams's campaign conspired with the Turkish government to direct illegal foreign donations into its campaign. This develop is ironic, considering Act Blue launders money into Democrat campaigns, including the Harris-Walz campaign. So why would the party that survives on illegal campaigns investigate a mayoral candidate for illegal contributions? But their targeting of Adams doesn't stop with the campaign funds. They're also reportedly investigating whether Adams, who has long boasted of his https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/what-we-know-about-eric-adams-ties-to-turkey.htmland the Turkish community, Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-kevin-jackson-show--2896352/support.

Congress addressed the rise of antisemitism in K-12 schools with a hearing yesterday morning. It marked the first congressional inquiry into antisemitism incidents in educational settings since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, which sparked a nationwide increase of such cases. The session specifically examined situations in New York City, Berkeley, California, and Montgomery County, Maryland. Officials, including David Banks of New York City Public Schools, Enikia Ford Morthel of Berkeley Unified School District, and Karla Silvestre of Montgomery County Board of Education, will testify. The hearing was conducted by the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, with representatives from the American Civil Liberties Union also participating.  The hearing followed the cancellation of a separate hearing on antisemitism at George Washington University after recent police actions cleared a related encampment.  The session yesterday aimed to directly confront and understand the growing incidents in these communities. The shooting occurred at around 10:30 a.m., and the police have released a description of a single suspect—a slender male, approximately six feet tall. The suspect was observed fleeing the area after the shooting. Responding officers utilized K-9s and technology to gather evidence and identify the suspect. Investigators believe the incident was not a random act of violence, and there are no indications that the public is at risk. Police encourage individuals with information to contact 911 or CrimeStoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS. STORY 2: Cobb Teachers Will See Bonuses this Month The Cobb Board of Education unanimously approved staff bonuses, recommended by Superintendent Chris Ragsdale. The bonuses will be partially funded by the state, with Governor Brian Kemp's announced pay increase for certain educators. The district is providing additional cash to all non-temporary employees, with amounts varying based on their work hours. Employees working more than half-time will receive a $1,000 bonus, while those working less than half-time will get $500. The bonuses will be reflected in bi-weekly paychecks on Jan. 19 for some and Jan. 24 for monthly pay. The move aims to offer extra support to district employees. STORY 3: North Cobb Seniors Take Polar Plunge to Help Friend 'Strike Out' Cancer North Cobb High School senior Kendall Vincent, diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma, has received overwhelming support from his four best friends, known as the "Fab Five." When Vincent lost his hair due to chemotherapy, his friends shaved their heads in solidarity. To raise funds for Vincent's treatment, they organized the "Strikeout Cancer Plunge," where they jumped into a freezing pool. Break:  ESOG – DRAKE   STORY 4: Scamihorn Elected Cobb School Board Chair The Cobb County Board of Education elected Randy Scamihorn as chair and David Banks as vice chair for 2024. Scamihorn, who has served three previous terms as chair, expressed the importance of continuing to build on the excellence of Cobb Schools and ensuring the safety of students, staff, and faculty. Banks, who cited hearing and eyesight concerns, prioritized lowering taxes for constituents. The board, predominantly Republican, has seen the chair position shift within the GOP for over a decade, with the last Democratic chair serving in 2011. STORY 5: Following Debate Cobb School Board Sets 2024 Schedule The Cobb County Board of Education approved its 2024 meeting schedule with one meeting per month, following a 6-0 vote by members, with one Republican voting "present." Democratic member Becky Sayler proposed an amendment to add six additional meetings, emphasizing the need for more time to review agenda items before voting. The amendment was defeated in a 4-3 vote along party lines. Another successful amendment, proposed by Leroy Tre' Hutchins, recommended scheduling a board retreat to build relationships and discuss norms. The retreat date is yet to be confirmed. The debate highlighted differences over meeting frequency and transparency practices. We'll be back in a moment. Break: INGLES 10 STORY 6: Marietta Postal Worker Alleged to Have Stolen Amid Flood of Complaints Multiple Cobb County residents, including Kennesaw resident Ralph Fowler, have reported incidents of stolen and altered checks sent through the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). Fowler's checks, sent to pay bills, were washed, with one changing from $30 to $3,000. The Marietta Post Office manager confirmed the internal issue, revealing that an employee involved no longer works there. Many other residents have reported similar thefts of thousands of dollars. The USPS Office of the Inspector General is investigating the matter. Thirteen Georgia members of Congress have written to U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy about widespread USPS issues, including mail theft. STORY 7: Gas Prices in Cobb Drop 16 Cents On Average in Last Month Gas prices in Cobb County have decreased by an average of 16 cents in the last month, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA). The average cost of unleaded gas in Cobb County is $3.01, down from $3.17 in December, while the state and national averages are $2.98 and $3.09, respectively. The drop in prices is attributed to lower oil prices, and AAA suggests that prices could continue to decrease. However, motorists are advised to be cautious, as seasonal factors may impact future prices during winter. In December, gas prices spiked after the expiration of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp's executive order suspending the state's gas tax.   Break: Henssler :60  Signoff-   Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Marietta Daily Journal podcast.
