"I put all of my energy into what I do." The Italian DJ and producer talks about his undying passion for music, his take on "business techno" and how the scene has changed over the course of his long career. Naples native Joseph Capriati has received criticism for being the "CEO of business techno." But the longtime artist is a genuine lover of all kinds of electronic music, from the incredibly niche to the more commercial strains he plays in Ibiza, intimate clubs and major festivals. In this RA Exchange, Capriati talks about how he climbed to success in the electronic world, getting his start at the age of 11 (he's now 37) before being booked on the international circuit with breakout releases on CLR and Adam Beyer's Drumcode. While Capriati has consistently ranked high in year-end polls and music roundups, no outside plaudits have impacted the choices he's made in his career. He's doggedly followed a lifelong passion for the underground and the community surrounding it. He opens up about the changes he's made in his personal life to facilitate his rise to the top, his struggle with his mental health, his turn towards sobriety and more. Listen to the episode in full.

Rick Macci joined me for an in depth conversation on what it was like coaching several of tennis' superstars including Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, Maria Sharapova and others. He also discussed King Richard, his academy in Florida and his coaching philosophy.
Graf, Navratilova, Seles, Serena, Hingis... Jennifer Capriati not only competed with the game's greats, she beat them. It was an unconventional path. From youth prodigy to tennis survivor, Capriati put herself back in slam contention in 2003 when she met Justine Henin in an all-time classic semifinal under the lights at Arthur Ashe. Our first tennis episode and we revisit the 2001 Wimbledon Championships. In this episode, Akhil Bangia and I look back at the amazing story of Goran Ivanišević and his incredible run to the Wimbledon Championship. In doing so, we cover some of the greatest tennis athletes of that generation including Sampras, Agassi, Rafter, Capriati, Williams and Henin. We also look at the changing nature of the game with the emergence of more base-line players and the slow death of serve and volley. We finish off by discussing whether this could be made into a movie and debating the need for more team tennis. welcome to the nonlinear library, where we use text-to-speech software to convert the best writing from the rationalist and ea communities into audio. this is: Corporate campaigns affect 9 to 120 years of chicken life per dollar spent, published by saulius on the effective altruism forum. Write a Review Summary In this article, I estimate how many chickens will be affected by corporate cage-free[1] and broiler welfare[2] commitments won by all charities, in all countries, during all the years between 2005 and the end of 2018. According to my estimate, for every dollar spent, 9 to 120 years of chicken life will be affected. However, the estimate doesn't take into account indirect effects which could be more important. The estimate is summarized in the table below.[3] In the table, everything is expressed in my subjective 90% confidence intervals. Numbers in parentheses are means. M stands for million, and B stands for billion. The full estimation can be seen in the Guesstimate model. Numbers in the table may not add up because of the way Guesstimate works. Table1 In addition to direct costs on corporate campaigns, the cost estimate includes the costs of undercover investigations about the living conditions of chickens, relevant research, and all administrative expenses associated with these activities. It doesn't include the costs of legislative campaigns and future costs of ensuring compliance to commitments that are already made. Consequently, predictions of follow-through rates assume that the spending on ensuring compliance will not be substantial. There are many ways this cost-effectiveness could be misleading. For example: I only estimate direct short term effects. Indirect effects on chicken and egg consumption, wild animal welfare, public opinion on farm animal issues, and long-term future could be more important. This is cost-effectiveness of past campaigns. Cost-effectiveness in the future might be different because companies could learn how to deal with animal advocates, it might be done in different countries, or for different asks. This is not an estimate of what an additional donated dollar would achieve, as I do not discuss room for more funding and there is a high variance in cost-effectiveness within the spending associated with corporate campaigns. In the first appendix, I show that even under very pessimistic assumptions, fighting for welfare reforms has affected more than one chicken-year per dollar spent In the second appendix, I discuss how the involvement of volunteers slightly skews this cost-effectiveness estimate. In short, volunteer time is a cost that is not accounted for. In the third appendix, I review previous cost-effectiveness estimates of corporate campaigns by Capriati (2018), Bollard (2016), Dickens (2016), and Animal Charity Evaluators. In the fourth appendix, I explain why I chose to estimate the cost-effectiveness of campaigns in all countries, during all the years between 2005 and the end of 2018, rather than focusing on a specific charity or year, despite the fact that very few commitments were won before 2013. In short, all efforts are interrelated. Efforts in one year can lead to victories in later years, and a single commitment can be influenced by multiple charities working in multiple countries. This article is a project of Rethink Priorities. It contains a lot of details but I tried to make it easy to skim. The section I recommend reading the most is Ways this estimate could be misleading. The number of chickens that should be affected According to unpublished estimates by Lewis Bollard from the Open Philanthropy Project (OpenPhil), commitments that were made before the end of 2018 should affect at least: ~243 million egg-laying hens in the U.S. ~135.6 million hens in other countries[4] ~512 million broilers (meat chickens) in the U.S. He arrived at these figures by estimating numbers of animals used by many of the companies that made commitments. Estimates are very approximate ...

We welcome Mark Grabow to the podcast to talk about all things training related. Mark was the Director of Athletic Development for the Golden State Warriors and has worked with several tennis greats on the footwork/conditioning side including Murray, Roddick, Capriati, and of course BG. We cover a wide range of topics including the evolution of athletes and the effect that technology has had on performance. There are also plenty of useful tips for recreational players with advice on warmups and cool-downs and some footwork do’s and don’ts. We also get into a couple of listener questions, one related to training for club players and the other for a junior looking to improve their footwork. As Mark says, training is tough, but it’s your love for the sport and what you do when no one is watching that will really help you improve. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The 2001 French Open saw Jennifer Capriati beat Kim Clijsters 12-10 in the final set to win her second Grand Slam title, but this was just a small part of Capriati’s story, one we tell in full on this podcast with the help of Tom Gullikson (her former coach), Lindsay Davenport (her compatriot) and Mary Carillo (someone who tracked her career closely). We cover Capriati’s prodigious talent and breakthrough results, her downward spiral and the events which turned her into a cautionary tale, her resurgence and Grand Slam wins, and the way in which she is still troubled today.Reflecting on her run to the Roland Garros title, we discuss the symbolism of Capriati’s semi-final victory over Martina Hingis and the dramatic but error-ridden nature of the final against Clijsters. The Tennis Podcast is presented by Catherine Whitaker and David Law, featuring Matt Roberts. Toure, a prolific journalist, podcast host, and an excellent player has lived an incredible life in journalism, and while not our usual tennis personality, has done some amazing things in tennis. As a child he grew up in Massachusetts and then attended Emory University. As a junior tennis player, he played in tournaments all around New England. Toure parlayed an internship into a superlative career at Rolling Stone Magazine, and then beyond. On this episode Toure tells us his perspectives on the current landscape in light of the corona virus pandemic. He explains what it was like to compete in juniors coming from a predominately African-American club. And he’s going to tell us about his time spent with Prince, Andy Roddick, and Jennifer Capriati . He breaks down some of the challenges he has faced living in Brooklyn during the pandemic lockdown. Toure explained the inspiration for his tennis and discussed many of the black players that excelled throughout history, including Arthur Ashe, Althea Gibson, Venus and Serena, and Richard Williams, and Coco Gauff.
