In this episode of the show, Raj, Baldy and Stu look back at week 5 of IPL 2025, which saw Mumbai and RCB make their moves, CSK start looking to next season and New Zealand Cricket invest in Major League Cricket in the USA. We start this week with a check in about RCB. It's been a strange season for them so far - less hyped than previous years, struggles at home, but with a lot of the players in key positions all delivering on what's required. We talk about Virat Kohli's quietly impressive stats, Josh Hazlewood doing the business, Tim David's finishing, Krunal Pandya's key moments and whether it's time to load up on RCB stock before it is too late. From there, we move to Mumbai's charge up the table thanks to Rohit Sharma's return to form, Suryakumar Yadav's consistency, a bag for Trent Boult and a bowling attack that looks so much more complete now that it features Jasprit Bumrah. Then it's time to bounce around a few different topics - from the top 6 teams putting a gap between them and the rest, to left-handed openers like Priyansh Arya and Yashasvi Jaiswal, and the contrasting fortunes of teams like the Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings. We round out the show with a discussion about New Zealand Cricket's investment in MLC in North America. Is international investment in franchise cricket a glimpse into the future of the game? How will it work in reality? Who could it benefit? Could we ever see something similar in the IPL? We'll be back in your feed again soon with more IPL coverage. With all the chatter in the lead-in being whether or not the Aussies would tank, and therefore eliminate England, it was good to a quality cricket contest between Scotland and Australia. Brandon McMullen and Mark Watt showed plenty for the Scots but they just didn't have enough as Travis Head, Marcus Stoinis and Tim David finished the job.Josh Schonafinger and Louis Cameron are in St Lucia and recap the final match of Group B while looking ahead to the Super Eight stage. The Magic Words to Motivate, Engage & Influence Seven simple words to boost the power of your message Episode 198 (Tim is based in Boston) In this conversation with Tim David we explore: What we can learn from magicians about recognizing other's perspective Magic techniques to grab the attention of your audience What is it about magic that capture our imagination? How to connect with people How to leverage intended mistakes or flaws to appear more human How your subconscious brain reacts to these magic words Why you pick words that sound like their name The sin of being an irresponsible communicator The five ways to get the best results from saying thanks About our Guest Tim David: Tim is the author of several books, including, "Magic Words: The Science and Secrets Behind 7 Words that Motivate, Engage and Influence". A CNN piece listed him as the 9th best motivational speaker in the world. For 8 years, he was a professional magician touring and delivering up to 300 shows a year. Learn more about his latest book here: Magic Words: The Science and Secrets Behind 7 Words that Motivate, Engage and Influence ----- Excerpts from this Conversation with Tim David: The thing that magicians really focus on is the other person's perspective. And if you think about it, a magician is going to practice for hours in front of a mirror so that we can see what you see, we're going to video record ourselves, we're going to hire coaches to sit in different seats of the theatre, so that we know exactly what each audience member is experiencing. In fact, there's a phrase that magicians tell each other all the time when they're critiquing each other. And the phrase is, watch your angles. ----- One of my speaking coaches said to me, I need you to pretend that half of your audience is blind, and half of your audience is deaf. That way you can cater your audio and you can cater your visual messages and treat each one independently. ----- The seven words are yes, but if because, help, thanks, and a person's name, and a person's name. ----- ----more---- Your Intended Message is the podcast about how you can boost your career and business success by honing your communication skills. We'll examine the aspects of how we communicate one-to-one, one to few and one to many – plus that important conversation, one to self. NOTE - In the episode we say there will be 5 teams previewed in this episode, however things got out of hand - so we chopped the episode up and there will now be 4 IPL Team Preview episodes! The next episode will drop on Thursday (13/3) with parts 3 and 4 coming on Saturday and Monday. It is IPL 2024 preview time! This two part preview will cover every team in the competition in detail. Starting with the captain and coach, then moving on to strengths and weaknesses, the boys also throw in a comparable car, probable XI and season prediction. Rajasthan Royals are up first, what are their chances during this season. They feature an explosive batting line up, including Jaiswal, Buttler, Samson and Hetmyer, as well as quality bowlers like Boult. However, might they be exposed at the death? Mumbai Indians have a god squad. The sky is the limit for Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Tim David, Rohit Sharma, etc. But will a captaincy change cause trouble? Sunrisers Hyderabad finished bottom last season, but they went shopping in the auction and now things could change. Lead by Pat Cummins the team also features Hasaranga and Klaasen, but their domestic core is not as exciting as other sides. This week on the show we look back at another busy week at IPL 2023, the white-ball series between the Black Caps and Pakistan, and discuss reports that The Hundred might be coming to an end in the not-so-distant future.Right when we thought the IPL playoff picture was becoming clearer, Punjab beat CSK in a thriller and the Mumbai Indians came from the clouds to beat Rajasthan thanks to Tim David and his long levers. Then LSG followed up their mammoth 257 with 108, which RCB and particularly Virat Kohli enjoyed quite a lot. KL Rahul got injured, Devon Conway remained awesome, Harry Brook watched a lot of videos of himself, Mitchell Marsh listened to the podcast, Kyle Mayers hit it to the moon and MS Dhoni is still hitting sixes - just another week at the IPL.Over in Pakistan, Daryl Mitchell has emerged as the front-runner for Kane Williamson's number-three spot in the Black Caps' ODI squad thanks to back-to-back centuries, Mark Chapman's historic T20 series encouraged the selectors to change his return ticket home, but it's been the home side who has had the better week - thanks in large part to the Mumbai Cements Player of the Week: Fakhar Zaman. We round out the episode with a discussion about The Hundred, which started with a lot of fanfare, but, if you believe recent reports, may not have much longer to run. Has it been a failure? Or has it been the injection of life that English cricket needed? And now that all this talk of franchise contracts is clearly here to stay, do we all need to take a moment to think about what we want our great game to look like in five, ten, twenty years' time?*Note: apologies for the technical difficulties with Binksy's microphone - back to normal service next episode. We'll be back next week with more from the IPL, the Black Caps' tour to Pakistan and other news from around the world. My guest is Tim David, author of "Magic Words: The Science and Secrets Behind Seven Words That Motivate, Engage, and Influence”, who started his career as a mentalist and magician, until he started focusing more on the connection he makes with his audiences. Tim David's mission now is to help leaders create a connected and invested work culture. TALKING POINTS When we communicate intentionally, on purpose, versus just hoping our message is getting across, then amazing things can happen, maybe even magical. === I want to be clear about what I mean and I want what I say to land, I want what I say to be heard. If you want to move mountains, we've got to move people. One of the best ways to do it is to ask for their help, “Would you be opposed to helping me here?” “I'm not sure if you are the person to ask for this?” “I'm not sure if this is something you'd be interested in.” You know, these types of questions, “I'm not sure if . . . “ isn't strong language it isn't super-confident language but it draws them in so that they can figure out, “Maybe I am the person who can help them with this”, and they're telling themselves that they are, versus you telling them. === BECAUSE We hear the word “because” a lot in our lives, and our brains have learned that whenever we hear the word “because” often there's a pretty good reason that comes after it. A simple tip to get your emails responded to, opened and implemented, people to do what you're hoping them to do . . . whenever you give someone a list of reasons to do something, you write, hey, we gotta do this because, and then bullet point, bullet point . . . at the beginning of each bullet point, repeat the word “because”, “we have to do this because . . .” === “BUT” ERASER AND “BUT” REVERSAL So for example, if you were to say to one of your direct reports, “Great job on the project last week, but there's one thing I want to point out . . . “ People say you shouldn't say the word “but”, but in reality you just have to have the word “but” in the right place. “There is one thing I want to talk to you about last week's project . . . but overall you did a great job.” I call it the but eraser. The human brain erases everything that comes before the word “but”. Everything coming after the word “but” is enhanced. For example, let's say you're in charge of fundraising, you're asking for a donation. and they say, “I'd love to, but I don't have the resources.” Then you can use the “but reversal”; you can feed back the exact thing they said, just reverse the order. “You don't have the resources right now, but you'd love to help and you'd love to contribute.” That may or may not change action or the behavior, what it does change is how the person feels about that interaction, or how they feel about their decision, how someone remembers something. === CONTACT TIM DAVID www.TimDavidSpeaks.com ABOUT HOST, NINA SUNDAY CSP Contact: nina@ninasunday.com or info@brainpowertraining.com.au Invite Nina Sunday CSP as a speaker on Culture, Team Transformation and Leading People for your conference, in person Australia-wide or virtually globally from our Brisbane studio. Years of experience as a magician taught Tim David that real magic is all about words, and the way they influence the minds of the audience. What sets a professional magician apart from an amateur are people skills like communication, influence, and engagement, skills that are also effective in the workplace. Influence and Manipulation Where's the line between influence and manipulation? Well, I'll save the answer for when you hear from today's guest. Andres Lares is the Managing Partner at the Shapiro Negotiation Institute and author of a book entitled Persuade: The 4-Step Process to Influence People and Decisions. In this episode, Andres talks about the difference between influence and manipulation, and how to persuade in an ethical way. He explains why persuasion doesn't just start with logic--or emotion. Rather, it's with building credibility, and Andres shares some ideas on what that means and how to do it. Along the way, you'll learn about Borrowed Credibility, Belief Biases, salary negotiating, and more. It's a discussion that I've been looking forward to sharing with you. Influencing Skills for Project Managers One of the constant challenges for those of us who lead teams and projects is influencing people around us. Whether it's a boss, our team, clients, or other stakeholders, we're often in situations where we're trying to influence an outcome, yet running into a brick wall while doing so. In this episode, we continue a series of discussions we've had over the years on the topic of influence. We're joined by Rene Rodriguez, author of a new book entitled Amplify Your Influence: Transform How You Communicate and Lead. In this episode, Rene discusses what we often don't get right about influence. He shares a simple way to learn more about influence just by paying attention to the people around us. You'll get an understanding of how the brain can help us be more effective at persuading or others--and how ignoring it can get in the way. These Podcasts are getting bigger each week we have that much content! (0:50) - The NZ Summer has started with a Tri Series between NZ, Pakistan and Bangladesh! Pakistan look sensational, Bangladesh look very average and NZ... well they look awfully timid don't they? We are only 3 games in so maybe they can turn it around. Boys also discuss streakers and a few ground rules that should be followed... We also discuss the very convincing 2-0 result between Australia and the West Indies, who are increasingly becoming one of the more frustrating teams around. So much talent without any want it looks like. Australia's bowling attack looks set but what about the batting lineup? Finch is now in the middle order? Where does Tim David come into it? (23:00) - We are very fortunate to have current Blackcap and Otago Volts veteran Jacob Duffy join the show, we talk Mankadding, touring India with NZ A, debuting as a 17 year old against Kane Williamson, while Tim Southee opened the batting... Jacob talks about some of the struggles he went through before 2020 where he became a Blackcap for the 1st time. Jacob also joined Coach Corner to discuss Death Bowling and keeping calm and answered a few listener questions. (01:02:52) - Lugsys Memphis Meltdown was too strong for me and Jacko as he takes honors onto the Chocolate round. Big stakes this week as it will establish the draft for our MASSIVE T20 World Cup draft pre show next week! The 33 best players in the world selected by us and voted by you! If you enjoyed this or any other episodes, please share, rate and review It really helps the Podcast grow, we can't appreciate you enough! Thank You! Tony, Chops, Krtgrphr and Nitin come together to analyse the latest from the 248 Twenty20 International series that are currently underway, and the lone ODI series that no one (except Shikhar and Sanju) wanted. Why did Shimron Heymyer miss so many flights? What is the latest embellishment on Gautam Gambhir's CV? Did Kyle Mayers play the shot of the year in the first T20 v Aus? Just how memorable was Ajay Jadeja's single over in some 1999 Sharjah ODI? Should Jasprit Bumrah be treated like a regular human being? In the mid 1990's, the L.A. band Kicking Harold was signed to a record deal at their very first show! Founded by singer-guitarist-songwriter Tim David Kelly, Kicking Harold experienced some early success with a song charting nationwide on alt-rock radio, and their song 'Gasoline' became the theme to the TV series Overhaulin for 9 seasons. I discovered Tim on TikTok for his vast music knowledge and we became fast friends, so I invited him to sit down with me on Waterproof Records. Tim shares his stories on how Kicking Harold came to be, what he's been doing since, and some of his wild tales of 90's rock and roll!
YJB was absolutely sensational, Root is the best player ever (at the moment) and Stokes is the captain that England need. But just how bad were New Zealand? Australia are doing good things in Sri Lanka, but will we remember any of this unless Tim David is selected and we feel safety in the size of the men that represent the country. South Africa are winning against India B, not that any of this matters, because the IPL rights just got sold for $5.1billion USD. Wouldn't mind a slice. Liam Livingstone is on the show to tell us how and why he swings so hard and #AskTGC involves a young law clerk being caught in a lie.
