Factory Reset Hebrews 12:5-11 We most definitely live in an ultra-fast paced, information sharing, computer driven age. In fact, it's hard to even imagine life today without personal computers, laptops or a smart phone attached to every hip, right?  Whether we like it or not, the information age genie is out of the bottle and it's not going back in and even more so with the advancements of A.I., Artificial Intelligence…but what happens when these devices on which we've become so dependent, fail to operate properly?  Our pc or laptop crashes or our smart phone gets bogged down and sluggish… For whatever reason, a virus, lack of memory or just too many installed apps, our devices can sometimes get to a point where they no longer operate as the original designer intended. Fortunately, the designer created a way to restore these units to their original settings and that is with a factory reset.  As followers of Christ, we too can become bogged down with the virus of sin, the busyness of life and the worries of this world. To get our attention, God sometimes has to perform a factory reset so He can refocus our wandering hearts back onto Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. And to do this, God will sometimes strip us of our idols of comfort and familiarity to drive us to our knees before His throne in absolute desperation. God doesn't do this to hurt us; He does it as a loving Father who longs to bring us into oneness with His Son, Jesus. Factory Reset - "God Cannot"  (Habakkuk) Doubt is one of Satan's favorite tools. From the Garden of Eden to this day, if the accuser can get you to doubt God's goodness, His care, His ability, His interest - in you- the battle for your mind is already finished. In Genesis 3, his entire strategy is to get Eve to doubt. In Exodus 3, you can hear doubt riddled Moses. And it is likely that you also are tempted at times to think - God cannot, God will not, God is not, God does not... There are some things God cannot do - He cannot lie; He cannot fail; He cannot forsake His own; He cannot make mistakes; He cannot be stopped! If God is for you, who can be against you? Doubt can be just a thought, but it can become the rupture to our confidence in God.

The self-help culture in our world tells us - I just need self-actualization to thrive. The Bible is resplendent with examples of proud people, incredibly gifted and capable people, who give in to the poisonous whispers of the evil one and fall on their face. Samson, King Saul, Solomon (the wisest of the wise), the list goes on and on.  Humility is the answer.  Being anchored (abiding) in Jesus enables us!

Factory Reset - "I Am Not Enough"  (2 Kings 6:14-18) Elisha has a servant who cannot see beyond what is right in front of his face. And because all he can see is the opposition that surrounds him, he cannot begin to believe what God has for him. We can often feel exactly the same: I am not enough...I am not good enough...I am not strong enough...I am not faithful enough.  This kind of thinking can infect all areas of our lives - work, marriage, friendship, faith, church. Wouldn't it be something if someone would pray that our eyes would be opened to see all that God has for us?

In this week's sermon, Pastor Paxton Redd kicked off the "Factory Reset" series, addressing the lies we encounter and how to counter them with God's truth. The sermon stressed three main points: the importance of knowing the truth, looking at life through an eternal perspective, and being willing to sacrifice our present comfort for obedience to God. Factory Reset - "There Will Always Be Time"  (Ephesians 5:15-17) There are three certainties in life: life is brief, life is uncertain, and life is fragile. Do not believe the lie that there will always be time. Life is a gift; each day is precious. Seize the day by seizing the moment. The story of the rich fool sets a good example of someone who thought he had all the time in the world.  Our lives are not our own.  Satan wants to lull us into a mindset where we do not see the importance of the moment. Don't get wrapped up in the things that do not matter. Focus with an eternal focus while you are living in a temporal and temporary world. Don't fall for the lie!
