Drei Ouvertüren zwei Gäste: die Musikwissenschaftlerin Martina Wohlthat und der Dirigent Jan Schultsz über Verdi, Offenbach und Beethoven. Eine veritable Opernouvertüre ist Giuseppe Verdis Ouvertüre zu «La forza del destino». Dunkle Farben, dramatische Pausen, Motive, die sich ins Gedächtnis bohren. Aufnahmen aus dem Opernland Italien, aber auch der Schweiz sind da in der Konkurrenz. Dann: Mit Jacques Offenbachs Ouvertüre zu seiner Operette «La Belle Hélène» haben wir einen Sonderfall. Offenbach schrieb für sein Pariser Theater nur 66 Takte, das Vorspiel wurde aber später für Wien stark erweitert, formal umgedeutet. Welche Fassung und vor allem welche Interpretation trifft den Offenbach'schen Nerv am besten? Und zuletzt Beethoven. Seine Ouvertüre «Coriolan» bezog sich auf ein gleichnamiges Schauspiel über einen römischen Helden, hat sich aber schnell in den Konzertsälen emanzipiert. Was macht das mit uns HörerInnen? Müssen wir die Geschichte und den zerrissenen Charakter Coriolans kennen oder funktioniert die Musik auch so?

Artiste aux multiples talents, reconnu pour son travail de comédien tant au théâtre qu'à la télévision, Éric Bernier s'est également fait remarquer comme danseur et musicien. Dès sa sortie du Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Montréal (1989), ce créateur polyvalent et inventif a su s'affirmer avec autant d'aisance dans le répertoire classique que dans celui de la création. Il a développé une fructueuse collaboration avec Robert Lepage, tant au théâtre qu'au cinéma. Au grand écran, on l'a vu dans le film Nô (1999). Sur scène, il était de la distribution du cycle shakespearien, Coriolan, Macbeth, La Tempête (1992-1995), ainsi que de Les sept branches de la rivière Ota (1995-1997) qui a fait l'objet d'une adaptation cinématographique à laquelle il a participé (1998). À la télévision, ses rôles dans Tout sur moi, Lâcher prise et Madame Lebrun lui ont valu bien des honneurs. C'est avec bonheur qu'on l'a retrouvé au petit écran dans les séries Bracelets rouges et Haute démolition. Plus récemment, il a rejoint l'équipe de La candidate et le très déjanté Complètement Lycée. In deze aflevering ligt de nadruk op de onvoltooide symfonie van Schubert. Ivan Meylemans geeft een voorbeschouwing en inkijkje achter de schermen van het concert van maart 2023 Het Zeeuws Orkest maakt regelmatig avontuurlijke uitstapjes, en daarom staat de voorjaarsserie deze keer in het teken van de romantiek, componisten uit de 19e eeuw. De ouverture Coriolan van Beethoven, het vioolconcert van Mendelssohn.... En de Unvollendete van Schubert.  Twee delen slechts heeft deze symfonie met het onbeschrijfelijk mooie ‘andante'.  Waarom vragen we ons af en hoe zou het geklonken hebben als hij was afgemaakt? Het romantisch hoogtepunt is ongetwijfeld het vioolconcert in e-mineur van Felix Mendelssohn. Het is een van de meest uitgevoerde concerten aller tijden. Soliste is niemand minder dan de violiste Maria Milstein. Milstein won vele prijzen tijdens haar indrukwekkende carrière, zoals de Nederlandse Muziekprijs en de Anton Kersjes prijs. Zij drong door tot de halve finale van het beroemde Koningin Elisabeth Concours voor viool. Hier strijdt de top van de wereld. In Zeeland is Maria Milstein geen onbekende, als echtgenote van “onze” Mathieu van Bellen speelde ze al meerdere malen in Zeeland tijdens kamermuziekconcerten. Zij zal nu voor het eerst in onze provincie schitteren als soliste in dit prachtige vioolconcert. Jong talent uit Zeeland. Esra Jonckman. Er is nog een opmerkelijk optreden tijdens deze serie. Esra Jonckman, de winnares van het Muziekconcours voor de Zeeuwse Jeugd - in oktober jl. georganiseerd door Vereniging van Vrienden van Het Zeeuws Orkest -  zal als soliste optreden in een suite van Telemann voor blokfluit en klein strijkorkest. Zij is nog maar 13 jaar maar verblufte de jury en de zaal met haar weergaloze optreden met haar blokfluit. Hörspiel nach dem gleichnamigen Theaterstück von William Shakespeare. "Coriolanus" wird meist als Letzte der Shakespeareschen Tragödien eingeordnet. Das vermutlich 1609 entstandene Alterswerk liest sich wie ein brandaktueller Politthriller über Krieg und Populismus: In Rom hungert das Volk. Getreide ist zwar genügend vorhanden, doch nur wenige können es bezahlen. Die Regierung muss die Kornspeicher vor Übergriffen schützen, denn man verlangt die sofortige Verteilung. Der Republik droht der Aufstand. Da meldet sich Caius Martius, verdienter Kriegsheld zahlreicher Schlachten, zu Wort. Er verteidigt die Haltung der Regierung – jedoch nicht mit diplomatischem Geschick, sondern mit deutlicher Verachtung des Volkswillens. Angestachelt durch die Schmähung ist das Volk umso mehr entschlossen, sich ein politisches Mitspracherecht zu erkämpfen – als plötzlich die verfeindeten Volsker die Unruhen nutzen, um einen blutigen Feldzug gegen Rom zu beginnen. General Caius Martius zieht mit seinem Heer gegen die angreifenden Volsker in die Schlacht und erkämpft durch großes Geschick den Sieg bei Corioles, was ihm den Titel Coriolan einbringt. Doch als er, zurück in Rom, eine politische Karriere anstrebt, wird ihm seine Selbstherrlichkeit zum Verhängnis. Coriolan beschimpft das Volk und seine Vertreter auf das Übelste und verlässt Rom schließlich, da ihm die Verbannung droht. Der einstige Held ist gefallen doch die Tragödie hat gerade erst begonnen...
