In this episode of We Love Outdoors with Rich Davenport, your humble host provides more updates to the new deer hunting regulations, and this past Saturday not only marked the 20th Anniversary of the attacks on 9/11, but also opened this new hunting opportunity in select WMUs for antlerless only deer. Some questions have arisen, like which processors are accepting deer so early. in Region 9, processors close to WMUs 9A and 9F that are open include the Buck and Doe Shop on Sheridan Drive near Transit Road, Williamsville. If someone isn't at the shop when you bring your deer in, you can call the phone number posted on the door and someone will be right there to assist. The mobile service known as The Deer Guy, out of Tonanwanda, NY, is also operating, with the request that you call (716-239-1964) before dragging your deer out of the woods. In Region 8, Flatlander Farms Custom Deer Processing is also open, but you must make an appointment (585-721-0335) to bring your deer in, and they are not accepting donation to the Venison Donation Coalition due to limited space. With the changes in big game legal shooting hours, hunters will need to do a bit more math this year to know when the shooting can commence and must cease. The DEC has a page for sunrise and sunset tables, but this isn't the only resource. This year you must not only calculate when sunrise and sunset will be in your hunting area, but now must subtract 30 minutes off sunrise, and add 30 minutes to the sunset time, and you have your shooting hours. This changes each day, as daylight hours are decreasing this time of year. The NYSCC held their follow up post convention meeting, and the board has approved the position statements from the NYSCC concerning the two resolutions adopted. Statements are available on the NYSCC website (nyscc.com). In additional. the 2016 resolution statements were not published, and those are also being added to the website. NYSCC is getting to work on behalf of the sporting community. EHD outbreaks are being monitored, and it looks like another outbreak has been detecteed in Region 7, Oswego County. Once the first frost hits this event will end. Erie County Federation met on Thursday, and discussions surrounding the passage of Erie County's local law to lower the deer hunting age were spirited. The measure still needs to be signed by the County Executive, after another public hearing, and we hope the measure will take effect in time for the Columbus Day Youth hunt in October. Twelve year olds have already missed the early season opportunity in 9F, a WMU in Erie County allowing big game hunting, and is open for the antlerless season. Have heard that DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos will be reaching out to Poloncarz to help expedite the process. California, where a recall of Governor Newsom heads to the ballot box tomorrow, has declared an "Energy Emergency", due to high demand and the inability to meet demand with wind and solar! Go figure. Rolling black outs aren't helping anymore, as the state's power deficit exceeds 3500 MW. Natural gas expansion is being encouraged. Prices are through the roof, and with Biden's regime denying access to plentiful reserves of NG and Oil, look for prices to go even higher. Covod covid covid mandates from DC to distract from the failure in Afghanistan is bringing more lawsuits as the mandates are clear violations of the 9th and 10th Amendments. Meanwhile Governor Hochul is already whining about not having the same powers as Cuomo did. Thank God she doesn't! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rich-davenport/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rich-davenport/support

On March 16, 2020, the leaders of the Bay Area announced a regional stay-at-home order that transformed life for millions in the Bay Area. At the time, it was one of the largest and most visible public actions taken to address the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Other regions soon followed. Exactly one year later, the Bay Area, California and United States are finally emerging from a public health crisis that has led to over 500,00 deaths and transformed life throughout the country. With vaccine supply increasing, the end of the pandemic is finally in sight. Andy Slavitt, the new White House senior advisor on COVID-19, has been at the center of the fight against the pandemic since early 2020. Last year, he informally advised leading Republicans as well as Democrats across the country on effective strategies against COVOD-19. Early on, Slavitt teamed with former FDA chief Scott Gottlieb to propose a $46.5 billion plan for COVID-19 contact tracing and isolation and was lead author of an early open letter entitled “Stay Home, Save Lives” signed by 16 top Republican and Democratic figures. His impact and influence was felt by millions of people across the county. Today, Slavitt is helping lead the new Biden administration's COVID-19 response efforts. As new variants of the virus continue to spread across the United States and some states reopen as the drop in cases plateaus, the Biden administration is working to increase the production and delivery of vaccines, create new places for people to get vaccinated, and address vaccine hesitancy in diverse communities. Slavitt is at the center of all these discussions. Please join us for a discussion with one of the country's savviest health professionals as we reflect on what we have learned over the past year and what it will take to finally return life to normal in the Bay Area, California and the United States as a whole. 2021 -- and, yes, we will still be talking, thinking and living with CoVOD-19, now with hopes of the vaccine helping us to sustain community life. Still, we need to uphold much we have learned -- small steps such as wearing a mask and social distancing make for big changes. This episode talks about the ways that people, even healthcare professionals tend to believe that Black communities are immune to COVID-19. This is due to the lack of available data on COVID-19 and race and ethnicity. This episode also includes an interview with my friend Kaitlyn Braithwaite, a junior and Hobart and William Smith Colleges majoring in Writing and Rhetoric and minoring in Women's Studies. She talks all about her experiences living in Brooklyn during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and her experiences with disparities in access to testing, the role of self-medication in West Indian communities, and even losing a family member to COVID-19. WENDY GROUNDS:  It's about a project that's in Israel, which united doctors and developers to find some creative solutions to the COVID-19 challenges.  The hospital is the Israeli Hospital, Assuta Ashdod.  They knew that the clinical teams were going to be both at high risk, and they're going to be severely overburdened when the COVID pandemic started to unfold.  And so they started the COVID-19 Sprint. BILL YATES:  Yeah. WENDY GROUNDS:  And our guest that we're talking to today is Marina Darlow.  She was the technology projects manager and the operations coordinator of this sprint. BILL YATES:  Yes.  Marina is going to share a lot of information with us.  Just how much they accomplished, how quickly; and how they brought together talent from the medical field, from hardware, software, technology solutions that is pretty mind-blowing.  There's some abbreviations that we need to cover, too.  So I think everybody's familiar with AWS, so Amazon Web Services.  Amazon Web Services Israel, specifically.  There's also mention of the IDF, the Israeli Defense Force.  They were a part of this initiative with the hospital.  And also Rafael, the Israeli defense organization, so that gets mentioned, as well. WENDY GROUNDS:  I'm really excited that we're heading to Israel to talk about our project.  I have been trying to get many international projects, so this one is kind of exciting. 358: Eight Ninja Leadership Skills For Covid-19

THE Leadership Japan Series by Dale Carnegie Training Tokyo, Japan

Many leaders get to the top because they are very smart, technically skilled people, with broad experience and high levels of competence in their area of speciality.  In Japan, they often become the leader because they have been with the company for a certain number of years or have reached a certain age and stage. Scary thought that, isn't it.  In our collective Covid-19 world, whether you are legend of your area speciality or just of a certain chronological age, the leadership skills we need today are going to be different from the “previous normal”.  Here are eight ninja skills to help us shine as capable leaders in lockdown.   Arouse in the other person an eager want Leaders want stuff and their bosses want stuff too.  That often means we are telling people what we want, how we want it and when we want it.  Reflect on this last week for you – does that summarise your monologue of late?  Leaders with better communication skills express desired outcomes in ways which resonate with the highest self interests of their team members. The team consequently  become willing disciples to carry out the required tasks, rather than galley slaves being whipped to ramming speed.   Become genuinely interested in other people The boss/staff divide usually means we don't get into the detail of people's personal lives.  But in this Covid-19 situation, we need to appreciate the staff member's home work environment more and the limitations therein.  That is best done in a caring non manipulative manner that communicates “I am genuinely concerned about you and how you are doing”.   Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves Bosses have a lot they want done and can be spending all their on-line time telling people what the boss wants and consequently what they need to do.  Covid-19 is not a boss “free pass” to nag or micromanage the team.  Have you become a nag without knowing it?  Find out how people are doing and what their issues are, by letting them talk and then listen carefully.   Talk in terms of the other person's interests This is similar to number one.  If we recorded your conversations and created a transcript, what would we find there?  A long list of things you want done and now?  Our teams are always much more interested in their own interests and so we need to frame what needs to be done in a way which resonates with their desired outcomes.  Are you doing this?   Show respect for the other person's opinion. Never say “you're wrong” In times of crisis, it is easy to slip into the uncompromising General Patton style of leadership,  “Do what I say”.  This military model works well in combat, but we are a scrappy people's militia, conscripted to stay home to fight the virus.  We want to be heard, so don't start bossing us around sunshine, by pulling rank and thinking your every decision is perfect.   Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view Diversity is trumpeted by companies as a good thing, except when something like Covod-19 hits and we want lockstep for the duration of the lockdown.   The team's home situations can have tremendous diversity, so we cannot be forcing square pegs into round holes.  Different views have to be understood and why.  Are you doing that? Or are you continuing to crash through?     Begin with praise and honest appreciation We forget that our people are operating under stringent conditions at home, trying to wrestle their domestic situation into some format that allows them to work in a location never designed for it.  We might make the mistake of thinking that is what they are getting paid for or that this is their job.  That would be a very tone deaf leader for today's work reality, I would say.  We need to appreciate that they are operating in ways never encountered before.  We should be praising people, instead of barking out commands.  Sounds simple right. Well, how much praise have you given your people this last week?   Ask questions instead of giving direct orders Barking out orders like a pirate captain is easy.  The issue is nobody likes that.  We are much better to suspend the command deluge and replace it with seeking opinion, experience, advice on aspects of the current situation and how to best deal with it.  Yes, you may have an idea or two on what to do, but one of the team may have a better idea.  By the way buddy, how many Covid-19s have you been through before?  None.  That is right, so ask people's opinions, because you have no monopoly on knowledge or insight in this situation.   Dale Carnegie's human relations principles really hit the mark in these trying times.  Your leader ninja soft skills must come to the fore now, to galvanise the team behind you.   Actions Steps Arouse in the other person an eager want Become genuinely interested in other people Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves Talk in terms of the other person's interests Show respect for the other person's opinion. Never say “you're wrong” Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view Begin with praise and honest appreciation Ask questions instead of giving direct orders

Business resilience is currently being tested to its limit. Covod-19 is taking a heavy toll on thousands of businesses, especially in the hospitality sector.  Many have closed their doors indefinitely and furloughed their staff. But a few companies are pivoting to provide essential supplies to the frontline.   Responding to calls from police officers on the ground Didsbury Gin made the switch from spirits to hand sanitizer. It has now made more than one million bottles to help keep key workers safe.  Liam Manton co-founded Didsbury Gin in 2017 and the company experienced meteoric growth. Like many other businesses Didsbury Gin is now carving a path through these exceptionally chopping waters.  Liam speaks to Trish about how the company have pivoted, their plans for global expansion and the support available for businesses during Covid-19. Just ignore the fact he's recording the podcast covered in crisps.
