POPULARITY
We're getting really bloody this week as we take a trip to feudal Japan for the 1972 samurai movie that set the pace for violent sword fighting movies to follow. This is not your father's samurai movie. This is not Akira Kurosawa. This is Kenji Misumi's epic starring Tomisaburo Wakyama and his wonderful, weapon-laden baby cart.Adapted from the extremely popular manga by Kazuo Koike, Lone Wolf and Cub tells the story of wandering assassin, Ogami Itto and his son, Daigoro as they walk the demon way in hell. The evil daimyo, Yagyu Retsudo wants them dead but it's going to take an army if they intend to get the job done.Utterly ridiculous and bloody, Sword of Vengeance sets the tone for the five movies that follow and is a tremendously enjoyable movie. Let us tell you all about it.Support Bring Me The Axe on Patreon!https://www.patreon.com/c/bringmetheaxepodBuy Bring Me The Axe merch here:https://www.bonfire.com/store/bring-me-the-axe-podcast/

It's not fair that Godzilla vs. Gigan gets ALL of the 50th anniversary love! There was another little Toho project that came out in 1972 - a co-production with Tsuburaya - that deserves some respect: Daigoro vs. Goliath! Okay, maybe deserving respect might be too much for this film - but hey, it...uh...exists. And "The Tattooed Titan of Tokusatsu" Jacob Walsh and his co-conspirator, Jay Key, are here to discuss this oft forgotten kaiju gem. From monster-sized toilets to excessive alcohol consumption to domestic violence, it has everything one expects in a kids' movie! However, the most compelling thing about Daigoro vs. Goliath is what it COULD have been! In addition to the film, Jake and Jay discuss Kurt Russell in the Monsterverse, weekly pick-ups, Shin Ultraman's international release news, and some new reveals by Marusan for the Godzilla Store. Please leave a positive review wherever you choose to consume YHS on Monster Island!

Fala Nerds! This month we're covering the first two volumes of the Lone Wolf and Cub manga and the 1972 movie Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance. Opinions are varied as we discuss Japanese brush painting, blood splatters, cowboys, and shocking revelations about Daigoro's actors.Next Month: "Ghost World" comic + Ghost World (2001) movie.
For episode seven, we're watching Daigoro Vs. Goliath! While the title of the film may make you think it's just another typical kaiju movie, don't let it fool you – this is a gripping tale of loss, alcoholism and really needing to take a shit. If you want to watch the film before listening to the podcast, you can do so here via Archive.org.
DON’T WALK, RUN! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! GIANT MONSTERS ARE ALL-OUT ATTACKING! Look out! It’s the first (of eventually many?) Genre Grinder episode about kaiju movies – those wonderful, sometimes frightening, sometimes hilarious, usually strange, often Japanese-based monster movies that we all know and love. Gabe welcomes special guest Luana Saitta from the Monster Island Commentaries podcast to stomp around major cities, step on cars, and push over buildings with him. Together, Luana and Gabe cover three movies from different eras in the kaiju film life cycle with not a single Godzilla or King Kong in sight (we can’t jump into the famous stuff right off the bat, right?). Their discussion includes Kimiyoshi Yasuda’s Daimajin (1966), Toshihiro Iijima’s Daigoro vs. Goliath (1972), and Brad Peyton’s Rampage (2018). They talk about some other movies, too, of course, including various Godzilla-verse classics, World of Warcraft, and, towards the end we do a bit of a catchall for more recent, CG-driven kaiju movies, too, because, well...there’s only so much to say about Rampage. It’s great, but, c’mon. Oh, and beware of Gabe flagrantly tossing out Attack on Titan spoilers, though. He’s the worst. 00:00 – Intro 11:25 – Daimajin 34:09 – Daigoro vs Goliath 58:43 – Rampage 1:16:28 – General discussion 1:24:28 – Attack on Titan discussion in which GABE SPOILS SEASON THREE LIKE A CHUMP 1:30:19 – Farewells and everything else Here’s a Letterboxd list I made of every single non-Godzillaverse, no gorilla, no super sentai I could possibly think of, in the event that you’re curious enough to delve further into the wild world of kaiju movies: https://letterboxd.com/gabepowers/list/non-godzillaverse-non-gorilla-kaiju-movies/ Looking for more kaiju content? Elwood and Stephen are joined by Author / Podcaster (The Bonus Material Podcast) aswell as three-time International Horror Guild Award Nominee Thom Carnell to discuss the first film in the long running Lone Wolf and Cub series as Ogami Ittō, a disgraced executioner turned wandering assassin for hire and his young son, Daigoro journey through the land they call hell. A key inspiration for Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill" aswell as John Carpenter's "Big Trouble In Little China) we look at the series aswell as the pop samurai genre. Thom also reveals his writing process, aswell as highlighting some of his favourite Asian cinema titles in an episode which is heavy on recommendations, so make sure you keep a pad handy!.

Welcome back to Pilot Inspectors. On today's episode, we are discussing two pilots suggested by one of our Patrons. First, we are talking about Who Killed Daigoro Tokuyama, and then we are discussing Miss Sherlock.
Byrd and Matt discuss Tsuburaya Productions' kiddie kaiju romp Daigoro vs. Goliath, which was distributed by Toho as part of their theatrical Champion Matsuri package in 1972. In addition to our review, we debunk some common myths about the film as well as discuss Toho's still ambiguous part in the production, how it was the offspring of the infamous aborted Godzilla vs. Redmoon project, and more! But first we have some news on the release dates for Godzilla: King of the Monsters and the upcoming Ultraman anime on Netflix. Enjoy the show!
Zookeepers, rejoice! Ron Ervin, the king of memes, joins the Hollywood Kaiju Bad Boys Brandon, Martin and Luke to talk about the 1971 trash fire film that is Daigoro Vs. Goliath. Talking points include creepy uncles and drunks, the Michelin Man's horrific love child and a dream Brandon had about Thanos. Tune in, turn out, turn around bright eyes, every now and then I fall apart.

Where to begin for 1972’s Daigoro vs Goliath? This is absolutely, without a doubt, a film created for little kids. As such, things can get pretty nonsensical at times.
