Strap in for a wild one as we enter the mind of writer/director Donald G. Jackson for two films that include: roller-skating nuns, frog people, a male chastity belt rigged with explosives, and horny puppets. That's right, it's time for ROLLER BLADE (1986) and HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN (1988) starring Roddy Piper and Sandahl Bergman.
This week- a classic gothic horror from England and a, uh, different type of classic for a very dedicated type of audience. In 1885, self proclaimed librarian Jonathan Harker arrives take charge of some books at a lonely castle. Mr. Harker didn't tell anyone that his real job is vampire hunter and the noble whose books he used as cover is named Dracula. Things don't work out as planned and soon Dr. Van Helsing goes to find Harker while Dracula goes to find Harker's friends in England. Hammer's first entry in it's take on Bram Stoker's fangy fiend, Dracula (aka Horror of Dracula). In 1995, a shlub whose barely holding on to his job taking family portraits finds himself being called to be a hero. When he and five others are trapped inside a building by a mischievous spirit from the distant past. Will our shutterbug step up or will the sun rise on the building only inhabited by the dead? The middle entry in Donald G Jackson's puppet trilogy starring Joe Estevez and Conrad Brooks, Baby Ghost. All that and... three of us fall into unrelenting cinematic despair while Craig cackles from his hidden fortress's throne room. Join us, won't you? Episode 357- Low Stakes Horror

An all new Appreciation Month is upon us here at Cinema Degeneration and this time we are heading out into the Dystopian fueled nightmares of the Apocalypse with 'Wasteland Appreciation Month.' It's a month long celebration of all things Post-Apocalyptic so you can expect marauders, scavengers, mutants and mayhem, cool car chases, fights over water and fuel, and battles of epic proportions. Our first episode is on an all time B-Movie classic starring the late great Rowdy Roddy Piper with 1988's "HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN" from director Donald G. Jackson. Also starring Sandahl Bergman, William Smith, Rory Calhoun, Nicolas Worth and many more! It's a cautionary tale of what happens when 68% of the male population on earth is wiped out and virile men are a rarity. Piper portrays the character of Sam Hell, one of the last virile men on the planet who is tasked with the mission of rescuing a group of fertile women from a gang of humanoid frogs! If that sounds crazy to you, then you've got to see it to believe it. Our deep dive discussion is headed off by the Three Stooges of Cinema Degeneration... Eric Phillips (Sequel Too, Deja Vu), Korey Dawson (Without Warning) and Cameron Scott. You can expect digressions and rants on everything from legendary actor Royal Dano, John Cena and his eventual evolution into Ernest P. Worrell, multiple ideas for Frogtown reboots and recastings and sequels, and even the Brendan Frasier Mummy franchise. Buckle in because it's going to be a wild ride! "Eat lead, Froggies!!!"
Our penultimate episode of VIDtober, our celebration of the movies released by New World Video, is also our 100th New World movie! Appropriately, we're discussing Donald G. Jackson's I LIKE TO HURT PEOPLE, a documentary? Sports film? Slasher? Whatever it may be, it contains a lot of wrestling! Even PRINCESS BRIDE actor Andre the Giant wrestles in it! Joining us is returning guest Brian James O'Connell, a director, writer, and wrestling fan, who sorts out the whole world of 1970's and early 80's wrestling world for us, teaching us about "jobbers" and the 5 motivations for a wrestler (we even add one more)! Plus, we go into what this movie was originally going to be, and what we discovered was, well, A LOT. You won't believe your ears (nor should you, if they talk to you)! If HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN didn't start #SciFiJuly with enough of a bang, here's an epic interview with the film's co-director and editor, R.J. Kizer, who got his start editing for Roger Corman and New World Pictures with 1979's UP FROM THE DEPTHS (which we covered earlier this year) and went on to work on BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS, SPACE RAIDERS, GALAXY OF TERROR, and so much more! We discuss the difficulties of these productions, including how Corman's vacation put pressure on the delivery time of UP FROM THE DEPTHS and how much PIRANHA was an influence, how BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS is a RASHOMON event, and how our Nearly New World selection of METEOR influenced the creation of HAMBONE AND HILLIE! Plus, we will talk about ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, which utilized Corman's special effects crew from the Lumberyard, GALAXY EXPRESS 999, ANDROID, Kizer's still-active career as an audio editor for X-MEN movies and many, many others, and, of course, HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN, including Daniel Stern's audition for the Roddy Piper role, working with co-director Donald G. Jackson, the locations, and much more!

This weeks episode is our 100th episode! To celebrate we talk about a film that neither of us had heard of until this past week, "Hell Comes to Frogtown"! Written and produced by Donald G. Jackson, "Hell Comes to Frogtown" raises the bar for strange films everywhere with a plot that involves main character Sam Hell (Roddy Piper) needing to take on what is referred to as "a very special assignment." The film has action, drama, and humor in various ways throughout with every chacters performance. But is it reccomandable to watch? We discuss this and more on our episode this week! Plot: When a nuclear holocaust renders most of mankind sterile, a drifter is recruited for a very special assignment.

This week, we check out another Donald G. Jackson true-original: 1986's Roller Blade. If you've ever wondered what the world would be like in a post-apocalyptic alternative universe, in which the '80s never died, everyone travels by roller skate, and the dialect is inexplicably King James-inspired, this is the flick for you! The Cosmic Order of Roller Blade (led by Mother Speed) faces off against the evil Doctor Saticoy and the results have to be seen to be believed. On this episode: a holy healing hot-tub, roving skateboard punks, a clumsy kidnapping victim (and our own childhood struggles with skates), a sentient hand puppet, the utility of roller skates for paraplegics, ubiquitous butterfly knives, weapons as "tools of healing", arbitrary resurrection limits, a magical dog, and the divinity of smiley-faces.
This week, join us as we travel to the Michigan of the 1970s and witness the summoning of a demon! Sam Raimi may have done it better, but Donald G. Jackson and Jerry Youngkin's sole celluloid collaboration has to be seen to be believed (that goes for most Jackson films). Youngkin stars as a lustrous-maned coven leader who wreaks demonic revenge on his less-dogmatic coven members when some refuse to give up their virginity in a ritual orgy. What follows is a testament to ineptitude as our titular Gwar castoff manhandles listless "teenagers" with nothing better to do than dance badly in Youngkin's castle. On this episode: missing fingers, a Frank Zappa lookalike, Satanism vs bourgeois mentalities, comic book artist allusions, a car seizure, a club for psychics, Gunnar Hansen, gratuitous karate, payment for gas via the Last Supper, shaving cream fighting, a crumbling castle, and gunning down a demon courtesy of Ted Nugent!
On this episode of Garbage Day we watched what may possibly be the worst movie ever. Not even Will Smith could save this movie. We watched Donald G. Jackson's 'The Roller Blade Seven'. SKATE OR DIE! patreon.com/garbagedaypodcast

Before we merrily skip into October and kick off a fun Halloween month for Podzooky, it's FROG SEASON! The Hollywood Kaiju bad boys Brandon, Martin and Luke had on Chicago comedian and frog appreciator Liz Stockwell to talk about the 1988 cult classic Hell comes to Frogtown. It's yet another great episode full of hot frog ladies, the impressive catalog of Donald G. Jackson and Randy Newman. Also a CW: this movie has more sexual assault in it than we were expecting so there's some discussion on that trend in 80's movies.

THE DOOMED & STONED SHOW ~Season 5, Episode 52~ This has got to be one of the strangest disasterpieces of underground horror we've yet encountered. I speak of the 1977 B-movie The Demon Lover (aka The Devil Master), a central Michigan production from directors Jerry Younkins and Donald G. Jackson, who went on to be involved in no less than 40 other films (though arguably none as charmingly bad as this!). The main antagonist is Laval Blessing, leader of a coven of curious occultists who don't realize just how serious Laval is about the Craft. When he is spurned by his followers, Laval summons a hideous demon who goes on a bloody rampage, killing the former coven members one by one! The show features audio excerpts guiding the listener through its narrative, with musical interludes inspired by the film. Happy Halloween!
Listen as your hero’s the douches babble on about the Donald G. Jackson post-apocalyptic mutant frog-people films Hell comes to Frogtown and its sequels. What fresh hell did jeff crazy get the remaining guys into? how many burps can you count?
Donald G. Jackson, Roddy Piper, Sandahl Bergman, and Steve Wang all completely nail it in Hell Comes to Frogtown. It can be argued that there is no funner "bad movie" ever made, especially when how much little money was spent. Sam Hell enters Frogtown to gets some fertile women rescued and then make sweet sweet love to them. This movie rocks. We'll start with our dearly departed Roddy. There's no one out there that could have done a better job with the role of Sam Hell. Period. Roddy nails the role. He's snide, sarcastic, witty, action-packed, intense, funny, and charming. Sam Hell can rival just about anyone out there as for likable characters. Sam Hell is just as lovable as Ash (Evil Dead) or Danton (Deadly Prey). The guy is bad ass and too much fun. Our problem with this film is that its considered a bad movie. It's NOT. This is a high quality, well executed piece with absolutely no flaws. The acting is spot on, the effects are top notch, the story properly delivered, the script is incredible and the very well spent money make this a perfectly made film. Sure if you were to tell someone who has never heard of it that its a movie about a guy with superior sperm has to free some sexy ladies from giant mutated frogs it sounds like a typical bad movie. But this film is as high quality as 90% of films out there.
For the third episode of When Wrestlers Act, Jon Cronshaw is joined by his good friend Scott Thurlbeck to review Hell Comes to Frogtown starring ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper. The podcast features references to sex, violence and badly-made latex frog masks – so you have been warned! #WWE #scifi #comedy #film
