We'll explain basic concepts and phrases that Christians should be familiar with and you'll leave feeling like you just aced a 101 class in seminary. So we cover the first three "Ecumenical" Councils in this episode. Councils 4-7 are covered in part 2. Thanks to Evan Friske for stopping in to talk to the other Evan.

As we begin our trek into the new year, I thought it could be helpful to do an episode on something that is REALLY hard for a lot of people: Boundaries. As a peace-loving 9 on the enneagram, this is actually one of the hardest things for me to practice. If I have any fellow peace-keepers or people-pleasers out there, you'll understand. Boundaries are a type of discipline that can have the tendency to feel selfish if practiced for your own sake. If you're like me, you may have NO problem pointing out the need for boundaries - for other people. But struggle for yourself. But. What if I told you God actually gave us something to live by? Because…He did. Today, I wanted to look at the Bible as a guide to healthy boundaries and wise choices. After all, the Bible is the key to all of life's principles. So, it stands to reason that God would have a few things to say about this.. Now, you may be thinking “I don't remember a commandment about personal boundaries..” BUT I actually beg to differ. You know why? Because a boundary is just another name for a “Limit”, “Border”, or even a “Perimeter”. They are in place for a reason. They protect our own hearts, they protect the hearts of others, and ultimately, when adhered to, they SHOULD help create a healthy community for all. The ten commandments are actually the FIRST set of such boundaries. I would even consider them the pillars to live by. They are the main guideposts of life and even if they were the only laws or principles to live by, they would be enough. But God is so good and left THE most detailed help-guide (if we so choose to pursue it). Seriously, Proverbs is chock FULL of the most practical life principles. Some are so simple. Some are deep. And some are really encouraging… and honestly, some are very convicting. It is a collection inspired by the Holy Spirit and written by the wisest man who ever lived (King Solomon). And while these chapters are generally full of LIFE PRINCIPLES to live by, for the sake of today's episode, I also want you to consider them boundaries YOU can apply in your own life. Whether these be personal boundaries, relational boundaries, business boundaries, or even boundaries that create strength of character. Each and every line in the book of Proverbs is applicable to life today. That I can promise. One of the things I love most about Proverbs (aside from its practical nature) is the fact that almost every boundary or principle listed is followed up with a promise to go with it. Promises for whichever decision you make. For the good or for the bad. From friendships to neighbors, to business, to marriage, to parenting, and even to legal practices. This book holds boundaries for all of life. A veritable Book For Dummies! I'm not offended. Just thankful God knew we would need a play book for life! Listen, this may all sound dull to you today. But, as the days and weeks go on, my prayer for you is that you'll remember today's episode. Remember WHERE to go when searching for wisdom in life matters. Likely as not, a lot of answers can be found in these 31 chapters. It isn't a hard read. It doesn't even take that long. But, I want to encourage you with this. The next time you find yourself in a situation feeling like you don't know what to do.. comb through the book of Proverbs. It could be an argument with a friend, a business decision, a question about marriage or parenting.. It could even be as simple as how to find true peace. I just bet God has a word in there for you. Be it encouraging or convicting. Chances are good that He left us with a principle or boundary to apply. Today's episode hasn't be a firey one by any means, but I do hope it will be the guide you need as you navigate the weeks ahead. May it lead you into wisdom. May you glean reassurance and encouragement from the pages in Proverbs. A Dummies Guide to Setting Boundaries.

In this episode, we're joined by Matt B Lloyd, to answer the question 'Who is Mr Terrific?'. First appearing for DC Comics in 1942, Mr Terrific is actually two different characters, with the second appearing in 1997. Terry Sloane, then Michael Holt, are both non-super-powered characters trying to do their best for their communities. With a possible TV show in the works, this is definitely worth a listen! Public education is essential to a civilized society. It provides individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to fully participate in and contribute to their community. It also helps to create a more equal and just society by providing everyone with access to education, regardless of their socio-economic status or other factors. Public education helps to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and it can also foster a sense of civic responsibility and social cohesion. In addition, research has shown that public education has a number of positive impacts on society, including improved health outcomes, increased economic growth, and a reduction in crime rates. And yet, despite all the evidence that public education plays a crucial role in the development and prosperity of any society, it is under threat in Canada. So today, I play devil's advocate to Dr. Prachi Srivastava. Dr. Srivastava is a tenured Associate Professor, Western University, specialising in education and global development. She is also Member, World Bank Expert Advisory Council on Citizen Engagement, and Senior Research Fellow, NORRAG. She has been invited to provide expertise and commentary on COVID-19 education disruptions by the UNICEF Office of Global Insight and Policy, UNESCO, the BE2 education donor working group, and a range of global and Canadian civil society and non-governmental organisations. Needless to say, she could write the book on the value of public education but today we're going to write a different book. We'll call it the The Dummies Guide to Dismantling Public Education, where we explore the critical juncture in the education system and discuss the alarming issues that threaten to dismantle the well-functioning public education system in Canada. We break down the steps that those looking to dismantle public education might take and highlight the evidence that supports the importance of public education for society and individuals. We also discuss the motivations behind efforts to dismantle public education and the potential consequences of such actions.

I'm sure a lot of us remember switching on the news in January 2021 and seeing what looked like something out of a disaster movie. Thousands of Trump supporters attacked the Capitol Building in Washington D.C - as the rest of the world watched on thinking we were watching the end of democracy in the US. It was a day that went down in history. But now, congressional hearings to try and delve into exactly how this happened are just as explosive as the day itself- and it's big news in the US To give us the dummies guide to the January 6 hearings is Congressional reporter with the New York Times, Luke Broadwater who is sitting in a room above the Senate right now. More than 6 and a half million Australians have already voted in the federal election. And with two days to go, is COVID pushing more people to vote early? Or are a lot of us holding out for a democracy sausage on Saturday? To explain everything you need to know before heading to a polling booth is Australian electoral officer and state manager for WA, Gina Dario. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ah the time old question of, should I go to film school? Or should I not waste my money? If you're a junior or senior in High School who loves film or acting, I know you've asked yourself that question. And with the emergence of many filmmakers and artists that don't necessarily study film in college that are making it, it's breaking the boundaries of film academia that people thought you needed to make it big! But being the child of immigrants, many of us come at college and academia from a different angle than others. So on this episode, we talk about film schools, experiences and create a guide for dummies on film school. Today's special guest is one of my cousins, the one and only Perla Nino. She's a Film Studies student at Chapman University in Southern California where she is currently focusing on publishing, film editing and sound design. And let me tell you is she freaking talented! She loves working with women in film, no matter their role, and is constantly inspired by representation and inclusivity in the industry as she herself fights for more and better representation and inclusivity for women in film. We sat down together and discussed our experiences in film school, our goals and ambitions and why we think it is important to pursue an education in film even when many tell you not to go.
