What does fall in Ohio look like to you? To me, autumn along the north shore means sweatshirt days, juicy purple grapes, picturesque apple orchards, and cozy fires with a glass of seasonal beer. Fall is prime time in Ashtabula County! "Instagramable" in every way, there are covered bridges, windswept beaches, farm markets, and plenty of local food and drink options. I spent 36 hours discovering this diversely beautiful county, hearing harbortown lore, drinking and eating delicious food, and driving miles of open road to find covered bridges and concord grape juice...and so many pumpkins! This episode was made in partnership with the Ashtabula County Convention and Visitors Bureau who invited me to share my Ashtabula County experience with you. In this episode, you meet four people who know a lot about the area. Margaret Price, with the Ashtabula CVB, Gallo (one name only!) from Harbor Gardens, Ryan Sposito from Cloven Hoof Brewing, and Cole Emde of Nights and Weekends, a Neapolitan pizza spot. A special thanks to Harbor Haven, a terrific, modern townhouse on Bridge Street, in the picturesque harbor area. Find it in the link or on Airbnb. On today's episode of the Buck Junkie's Podcast, we bid farewell to Alligator season (00:52), and discuss the ever growing population of our non-cooking field rats (03:19). Fall food plots are making a return to our hunting grounds and so are the deer (06:13)! We air out all of our thoughts on our four game cameras (14:48). We go in-depth about our thoughts with this year's Velvet Season (27:54) before launching into game camera advantages vs. disadvantages (29:57). In doing so, we accidently touch on a very controversial subject, scoring deer (35:56), and hop out of the crosshairs to explain why you absolutely NEED a game camera for your deer herd (40:20). Updated technology is PERFECT for helping decide when to shoot vs when not to (43:08). All this talk of hard work has us hungry, so we jump into what's been on our grill (46:43) before wrapping up for the day (56:40).

Habitat Podcast #237 - In today's episode of The Habitat Podcast, Jared sits back down with repeat guest Al Tomechko. We talk about different planting techniques, timing, and three new products available on their website. The hosts also explore the benefits and challenges of no-till drilling in Ohio's rugged hills. Additionally, we highlight two new products from Vitalize Seed Company: Seed Armor Plus and Seed Feed, designed to optimize seed performance through improved germination, root establishment, and nutrient availability. Lastly, we introduce Vitalized Micros, a cost-effective solution to fill nutrient gaps in soil and boost crop yield. We discuss: The importance of timing and efficiency. Terrain and field size influence the choice between a three-point mount or tow-behind drill. planting with no-till drills and using alternative equipment like trucks. The importance of calibrating drills and adjusting seeding rates for different areas. No-till drilling offers consistent planting depth, better germination, and reduced seed usage. No-till drills are slower than general broadcasting but provide better results and reduced herbicide needs. The efficiency of no-till drilling increases with larger acreage Vitalized Micros is an all-natural product designed to address micronutrient deficiencies in soil. Seed Armor Plus ensures the presence of beneficial bacteria in the soil for nitrogen fixation, resulting in quick seed germination and sprouting. Seed Armor Plus contains humic acid, which improves seed germination, water retention, and root establishment. And so much more! On this week's episode of the Pennsylvania Woodsman we catch up with Al Tomechko from Vitalize Seed. After discussing some big projects that took place during the off season at Al's place, we dive into Vitalize seed. Vitalize uses a two-pass planting system with the summer mix called "Nitro-boost" and the fall mix called "Carbonload". Al breaks down the plant species used in Carbonload and how they work together to provide the best food plot possible. There are hundreds of different food plot blends on the market and thousands of different opinions. Some would disagree that certain plant species cannot be mixed into the same blend. However, with proper seed balance and ratio, diverse mixes can produce maximum tonnage that work together rather than compete.
