Some rivalries just build up quickly, but others slowly bubble up to the surface from the most unlikely of places possible... teammates. Whether it's teams like Colby Covington vs Dustin Poirier and Tj Dillashaw vs Urijah Faber or Frank Shamrock vs his brother Ken Shamrock... these are about as bitter as it gets. But for some reason the fights never happened. Why not? We'll break that down in today's video.
Frank Shamrock is a multiple-time world champion mixed martial artist with a 16-year career that saw him claim titles in the UFC, Strikeforce, Pancrase, and the WEC, all this after overcoming a tumultuous childhood of abuse and incarceration.Frank graciously handed over the baton to the next generation of fighters and transitioned into promoting Strikeforce, which the UFC bought for 34m. This freed Frank to transition into his proudest role as a super-dad to his daughter Nicolette and the running of his organization, The Shamrock Way.He returns to the ManKind Podcast with Brandon Clift to discuss the critical role that "Girl-Dads" play in the development and lives of their daughters and how we can apply the Plus, Minus, and Equal System to achieve excellence in all areas of life.Text Us Your Feedback! Hi there, Joe Fier here and today I'm sharing some vital takeaways about the importance of play. We get so lost in the momentum of our work that we often sideline the joy and simplicity that play brings. Let's jump into how reintroducing play can, not only enhance your work-life balance, but also reignite your passion for life and business. In this heart-to-heart, I indulge in some real talk about the significance of play. I reflect on the eye-opening moments I've had while watching my kids play, and I bring in perspectives from Dr. Gabor Maté, who spoke about the weight of regrets and the longing for more play and family time. The core message is simple: we need to look beyond the hustle and bustle of 'business' and find true joy in our everyday doings. Lessons Learned from Little Ones I open up about the times I spend with my children, playing and laughing, and how these simple moments can provide profound insights. It's about realizing that some of the things we stress over in our adult lives are not as significant as we make them out to be. If we could just see the world through the carefree eyes of a child, perhaps we'd understand how to lighten our load. Heartfelt Insights from Gabor Maté A moment with Gabor Maté hit me hard, as he shared his own reflections on life and work. His words about always feeling the need to justify his existence through work, at the cost of play and enjoyment, are a stark reminder to us all. We dive deep into the concept that perhaps the value we seek in busyness is misplaced, and it's a discussion I believe we all need to hear. Rethinking the Hustle of Business During our conversation, an idea struck me about the true meaning of 'business'—is it just a fancier word for being 'busy'? I challenge you, as I challenge myself, to redefine what business means to us. What if we put our efforts into fulfilling endeavors that resonate with our soul instead of swimming in a sea of tasks? Discovering Your Superpowers with Kolbe The Kolbe assessment was a game-changer for me, as it outlined my strengths in ways I hadn't considered before. By sharing my own Kolbe scores and what they mean for my approach to work, I'm hoping to encourage you to uncover your own innate powers. It's about working smarter and tuning in to what genuinely allows you to shine. Words of Wisdom from Frank Shamrock In a previous episode, Frank Shamrock shared with us how play is a fundamental learning tool and a form of communication—even in the animal kingdom. His insights remind us that the essence of play goes far beyond simple entertainment; it's a way of interacting with the world in a curious and engaging manner. Making Play Part of Your Daily Grind Now, my friends, let's bring it all home. I invite you to think about how you can weave play into your daily routine. How can you make your days less about the grind and more about the joy? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Let's start a conversation about rekindling that childlike sense of wonder and how making room for play can transform the way we live and work. Wrapping It Up In this conversation we took a closer look at play, not just as fun, but as a crucial component of a well-rounded life. We delved into the sentiments of children at play, insightful advice from Gabor Maté, and the powerful wisdom of Frank Shamrock, all pointing us to one undeniable truth: it's time to put play back on the agenda. Whether you accomplish this by exploring your natural inclinations through assessments like Kolbe or simply by enjoying a playful moment with loved ones, I urge you to nurture your playful spirit. I'm eager to learn how you'll make play a real part of your day, so hit me up with your stories and plans. Remember, it's not just about staying busy; it's about staying brightly, vibrantly alive. Keep playing, keep laughing, and let's make every moment count. He realized that he had ruined his life with 20 felonies, no education, and a baby to support.Frank understood that he had hit rock bottom, but he wasn't going to let that hold him back. When Amanda finally managed to get away from the man who was trafficking her, she was thirty-one years old and didn't know what she'd gone through or even had a name, much less how to deal with the pain of feeling like a broken person, unworthy of love and filled with so much anger. On a freezing cold day in 2018, she saw former trafficked people standing strong and showing their beautiful resiliency on a stage at an anti-trafficking event. At that moment, she finally knew what her purpose in life would be. Since then, Amanda has spoken on a multitude of stages, been interviewed by the Chicago Tribune, sold her art all over the country, been a keynote speaker at international summits, loaned her voice to multiple radio programs, and published over a dozen books. She launched two podcasts - one that focuses on interviewing other authors of trauma, and the other that discusses the long-term consequences of trauma and how to fight back for a better life. She's a trauma recovery mentor, professional artist, accomplished public speaker, and a charity campaigns manager for MMA legend Frank Shamrock through ShamrockWay.org. She also tells her harrowing story of being trafficked multiple times by people she knew, including her fiancée. Not to worry though, after her escapes, she shares how she healed from such horrible trauma and helps others to do the same. We actually laughed quite a bit while talking about such a dark topic! You may [00:01:00] want to skip till next week, [00:01:02] She is an amazing lady. I'm going to tell you a little more about her. Trafficking is something that I am very passionate about eliminating and helping people to heal from human trafficking. Mending the Soul, as you're familiar with, if you've been listening to the podcast for any length of time, you know that I'm involved with Mending the Soul groups. [00:01:32] But we also have a Princess Lost, Princess Found, which is for sex trafficked victims. And the curriculum is amazing. That's why I invited... Amanda to come on the show and tell her story.

Ryan speaks with Frank Shamrock about his memoir Uncaged: My Life as a Champion MMA Fighter, the convergence between the Stoic virtues and the tenets of the Warrior Code, managing his ego when he was considered the greatest fighter on the planet, how his rough upbringing shaped his unconventional life, the mutual respect that they have for each other's work, and more.Frank Shamrock is a former professional mixed martial artist and a pioneer of the sport. He was the first to hold the UFC Middleweight Championship and retired a four-time defending undefeated champion ranked the No. 1 Pound-for-Pound fighter in the world. He was named "Fighter of the Decade" for the 1990s by the Wrestling Observer, "Best Full Contact Fighter" by Black Belt magazine (1998), and three time "Fighter of the Year" by Full Contact Fighter Magazine. Frank spent much of his young life in the foster care system, often enduring abuse and neglect, until he was officially adopted and mentored by his father figure Bob Shamrock at the age of 21. Since his retirement from MMA in 2010, Frank has worked as a coach, color commentator, actor, writer, and motivational speaker. His work can be found on his website: frankshamrock.com.
In this episode clip, UFC champion Frank Shamrock tells us about his experience in the streets and going to prison - with no hope for a better life. He explains what made him decide to change directions and what actions he took that helped him survive. With hard work, he was able to study and train, and eventually become a mixed martial arts world champion.
Frank Shamrock calls himself "The First Super Athlete" in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Some might say that Frank lacks humility, but he was the first UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and retired undefeated from the organization. He revolutionized MMA and went deeper than anyone else, studying the body and optimizing his performance. While others focused on technical fighting, Frank dug into the biomechanics and truly became a force to be reckoned with. But get this, Frank didn't start off as a fighter. Actually, he found MMA while he was in jail at the tender age of 11. Frank had left his abusive home and turned to crime as a way to protect himself and get out of his situation. Sad, but true.Fast forward a bit, and Frank is in prison at 17 for 3 and a half years. That's when he had his big "aha" moment. He realized that he had ruined his life with 20 felonies, no education, and a baby to support.Frank understood that he had hit rock bottom, but he wasn't going to let that hold him back. He learned that changing his mindset and taking action was the first step to rebuilding his life. Now, Frank is an inspiration to all of us.A former criminal who became a champion, Frank Shamrock's journey and lessons can inspire anyone, whether they're fighters or not.
