It's about protecting what makes the World Cup special in the first place. Can fans celebrate the beautiful game while holding its leaders accountable? And what would an ideal World Cup actually look like?Whether you're a lifelong football supporter or someone curious about the politics shaping global sports, this conversation will change how you view the biggest tournament on Earth.JOIN OUR WEBSITE MEMBERSHIP! @ https://ansaripodcast.comOR Our Patreon!https://www.patreon.com/cw/theansaripodcast*The Debt Clinic*: https://www.mydebtclinic.com/ansari*Provision Capital:* https://www.provisioncapital.com00:00 Why Criticize FIFA?04:46 Was FIFA Less Corrupt in the Past?06:56 Ad08:27 Will the World Cup Wreck America's Reputation?12:35 Russia Banned but not Israel? 17:00 Trump's Fake FIFA "Peace Prize"20:37 World Cup Crazy Ticket Prices!23:37 New York Ticket Prices: Is Mamdani a Wizard?26:30 Gianni Infantino: Who Actually is FIFA's President?30:53 Ad31:38 ICE Immigration & The 2026 World Cup Fears38:13 The World Cup Increases Surveillance?41:49 Top Teams & Best Players to Watch!53:44 Middle Eastern Teams!54:43 Balancing Celebration and Criticism57:55 What Would an Ideal World Cup Look Like?01:03:06 Final Thoughts#WorldCup2026 #FIFA #Trump #israel #worldcup *Listen on All Audio Platforms:* https://tr.ee/JeX-ILYSyj*Follow The Ansari Podcast**Instagram:* https://instagram.com/ansaripodcast*TikTok:* https://tiktok.com/@theansaripodcast*Twitter/X:* https://twitter.com/ansaripodcast

"With men, with FIFA, you will find open doors. Just push the doors. They are open."That was Gianni Infantino, FIFA President, in the run up to last Sunday's Women's World Cup final between England's Lionesses and La Roja, Spain's national team, the tournament winners. But how open are those doors, really?New research from Women in Football sheds light on the reality that lies below the rhetoric and PR spiel. In many ways, far from welcoming women in to football, the professional game remains stubbornly hostile.Richard is joined by Yvonne Harrison, chief executive of Women In Football, and Monique Chaudhuri, board member of WiF who has just stepped down after five years as non executive director of Brentford FC.We discuss the burden being carried by today's generation of young professional players; why we don't know how many women work in football and the hard work that lies ahead to capitalise on this summer's World Cup.Read the Women In Football 2023 survey results here. Some highlights:82% of women working in football having experienced discrimination at work – up from 66% in 202023% of those who experienced gender-based discrimination at work felt able to report it – a significant improvement on the 2020 survey, when the figure was just 12% but still a way to go47% of women working in football have experienced sexism in the workplace – while this figure is still high at almost half, it is also an improvement on the 2020 figure of 65%89% said they were optimistic about the prospects of women in the football industry – up 27 percentage points from only 62% in 2016 but only 27% of women say they are encouraged to forge pathways to the highest positions in the gameIn 2020 only 45% agreed that football was an environment where women can excel – but this was up to 67% in 2023.Unofficial Partner is the leading podcast for the business of sport. Episode 87 of the Leaders Sport Business Podcast features a conversation with Danny Sillman (starts at 11:22), the CEO of the Stephen Ross-owned football events and media company Relevent Sports, the promoter behind the International Champions Cup (ICC). The ICC was founded in 2013 and has evolved to become the preeminent annual friendly competition for European football clubs in North America and Asia. Earlier this year, Ross declared that competition needed to become more 'meaningful' in order to grow and, more pertinently for the short-term, guarantee his continued funding. To that end, in early March, Relevent looked set to announce an endorsement from European football body UEFA that would have elevated the tournament to a new status. The Covid-19 crisis put paid to that announcement, but Sillman insists that the opportunity to grow the competition and reshape the football calendar not only remains, but is bigger than ever. On the conversational agenda: - Doubling down on positioning Relevent Sports as 'the solution' for European football clubs faced with revenue shortfalls; - Partnering with leagues and clubs as a ‘content development partner', not just an events organiser; - The LaLiga JV relationship and its coming expansion, and the replication of that relationship with other leagues; - The competitive dynamic between FIFA's revamped Club World Cup - postponed from its launch in 2021 after UEFA's decision to move the postponed Euro 2020 to next summer - and the UEFA-backed International Champions Cup; - Making the ICC more meaningful - more competitive, with better, more compelling storylines - and doing it with the blessing of a major governing body; - What Sillman would do if he were made FIFA President.
