Happy Victoria Day weekend! I know many of you aren't thinking about Queen Victoria this weekend. She is long gone, having died 125 years ago in 1901. FUN FACT: We observe her birthday of May 24, 1819 and not her death of January 22, 1901. Instead of thinking about Queen Victoria, our minds are often focused on camping, gardening, and grilling. However, permit me to draw your attention to Queen Victoria's name. Victoria is the Latin name for victory. This makes me ponder how one becomes victorious? I guess it depends on what you are trying to win or conquer. So, let's narrow the question further to how does one become spiritually victorious? Read Exodus 17:8-16 and come this Sunday to our service to find out the answer!

One of the charges people often make of God is that He is harsh and cruel. He just powers up over people. They say something like this: “Why would God send innocent people to hell for all eternity?” If Pharaoh during the time of the Israelite slavery in Egypt is an indicator of God's interactions with people who reject Him, then let's remember that God gave Pharaoh and the Egyptians 10 opportunities to repent. And now God takes the firstborn sons from Pharaoh and the Egyptians. You will recall from Exodus 1 that an earlier Pharaoh and the Egyptians had killed many of the Hebrew baby boys. But God was not a vengeful God. Why? Come out this Sunday to discover more about God as we open up His Word to Exodus 11.

Back in 2019, you sent Lori and me to Togo, West Africa, to see how clean water projects turn people far from God into receiving Christ as Saviour and Lord, and how new churches are planted. It is not a stretch to see how clean water leads to the message of Jesus giving living water. In Canada, we often take clean drinking water for granted. However, this is not the case in most parts of the world. It certainly was not the case in ancient Egypt when the Israelites were slaves there. The ancient Egyptians believed the Nile River was a god and a source of life. Imagine how they must have felt when God told Moses to turn the Nile River water to blood. What was God doing? Have you ever felt under-resourced? More month than money when it comes to all your bills? Maybe the cause of your lack of resources is due to somebody else? Maybe a family member made a commitment that has cost you dearly and you are still paying for it? This seems to be the thinking of Israelites in slavery in our passage of Exodus 5 this week when their leader Moses tells Pharaoh to let God's people go. Pharaoh was not going to let go of his slave work force so easily and instead demanded that the Israelites make bricks without straw and without lowering their daily quota, one brick. But this was God's word! And sometimes God's word makes things harder before they get easier, but that is not the last of God's word. There is hope for those under-resourced. It's been said the Christian life is like riding a bike. Unless you keep moving, you fall off. The Apostle Peter knew this firsthand. He didn't just stumble; he failed publicly and painfully, yet by God's grace he didn't quit. He got back up and kept going because Peter knew the only way forward was to “grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus” (2 Peter 3:18). As we continue our vision series Gather Grow Go, we'll explore what it really means to Grow by tracing Peter's life. Whether you're new to following Jesus, feeling stuck, or faithfully plodding along, this message is for you!

More empathy for your fellow sufferers? Did you grow through suffering and oppression? I bet you did. Sure, suffering in itself does not guarantee growth, but turning to God in our pain does. In the final week of the Go Grow series, Pastor unpacks the final stage of spiritual growth — moving from being close to God to living a God-centered life. The journey of discipleship follows this rhythm:Grace brings you in. Truth builds you up. Giving pours you out.The parable of the sower (Matthew 13) reminds us that different soils represent different hearts. To become God-centered, our hearts must become good soil — soft, surrendered, and ready to multiply what God plants in us.Key Points• The Bridge to Being God-Centered is Giving. God doesn't need what's in your hand — He wants what's in your heart. True giving is not about subtraction; it's about surrender.• The Way You Handle What's in Your Hand Shows Who Holds Your Heart. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21). Treasure exposes trust.• Faithful Soil Multiplies; Fearful Soil Buries. In God's Kingdom, what you release is never lost — it's multiplied. Fear makes us hold tightly, but faith releases freely.• When the Heart is Truly God's, the Outcome Looks Disproportionate to the Input. A surrendered life yields fruit far beyond human ability — 30, 60, even 100-fold.• Generosity Determines Lordship. You can't serve both God and Mammon. Giving confronts Mammon's claim on your heart; bringing your first and best to God breaks it.• Good Soil Produces Legacy, Not Just Memories. Fruitfulness in the Kingdom outlives us. Seeds sown in faith will continue multiplying long after we're gone.Practical Applications• Practice First Fruits: Give first, not last. Train your heart to trust your Source.• Build Margin: Create space in your budget and schedule for generosity.• Hidden Generosity: Give without applause to strengthen your trust in God.• Fast from Buying: Break reflexive consumption and reset your heart's priorities.• Name Your Idol: Identify what you fear releasing and surrender it to Christ. When we release control, resources, and pride — God multiplies our obedience into legacy. Good soil never stops producing fruit, because it's rooted in surrender.

In Part 2 of our GO Grow series, we unpacked the Parable of the Sower from Matthew 13 and explored God's heart for reaching those who are far from Him. Jesus shows us that the condition of the soil matters—some seed falls on rocky or thorny ground, but some lands on good soil and produces a great harvest.Pastor Doug reminded us that:People who are far from God are closer than we think and more open than we realize.God often sends us to unlikely people in unlikely places. The mission to reach the lost always involves people—God's plan to reach the lost is YOU.The message highlighted four groups God refuses to give up on:Nineveh – The people we're tempted to judge. The Ethiopian Eunuch – The one no one else sees.Cornelius – The one from the “wrong” culture. The Woman at the Well – The person everyone else avoids. The call to action is clear: take the Gospel beyond the walls of the church, sow generously, and trust God to bring the growth.

Em opens up about the deep grief of feeling unfinished in New Zealand and grappling with why God led her there only to bring her back.    In this episode, we chat with Em about the power of transforming her mindset, choosing to focus on the good and the new opportunities God has in store for her. She passionately talks about feeding our souls with God's truth and dwelling on things that are good, lovely, and admirable.   Learn how taking our thoughts captive and creating new neural pathways can change our lives. Em shares her insights on self-compassion, kindness in our inner dialogue, and seeing Jesus as a compassionate coach.   Be inspired to focus on the next right thing, trust in God's guidance, and embrace the freedom of not having to be the hero of your own life. This conversation is a must-listen for anyone seeking encouragement and practical wisdom for navigating life's challenges with faith and positivity.  To connect with Em, visit her website, listen to her Go + Grow with Em Tyler podcast and follow her on IG and FB @helloemtyler   JOIN THE BJDW COMMUNITY HERE! The day you plant your tears is not the day you will see the progress. If you have heard some of my past podcasts you may know that one day I was so distraught that I literally watered my plants with my tears... I know... it may sound like a break down, but really it was a breakTHROUGH and the inspo for today's podcast. In this episode you will learn how to transmute your tears into triumph with concrete tools to help you go from miserable to magic. Healing is not one size fits all, so we will go through a variety of techniques, laws of the universe, mantras, and even learn the science behind why letting go is so hard. I'll give ya hint: DOPAMINE. If you are transitioning into a new cycle, going through a break up, afraid of the next stage of your life, stuck in the past, unsure of how to move on, or anything along these lines, this is the perfect episode for you.
