Original Release Date: 8/12/12 Original Episode Notes: You might know him from his band Helms Alee, or his company Verellen Amplifiers. You might know him from his reunion shows with his old band Harkonen - but you probably don't know him from any of Harkonen's original shows, which he describes, simply, as "bummerly." Then again, you might know him as Botch's little brother; the roadie with the pink fanny pack crouched behind the drumset with a homemade light show and a 40oz. of OE. Ben Verellen is all of these things, and a real nice guy to hang out with to boot. Ben and I delve into some tour stories, and also get to philosophyzin' about the nature of The Tour, and how not to let it bring you down. This podcast features music from Helms Alee's amazing second album Weatherhead, available at www.hydrahead.com or at most fine independent record stores.

In honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Indigenous musicians will talk about joining traditional cultures with hip hop, jazz, funk and dance music. Calina Lawrence of the Suquamish Tribe will talk about using the Lushootseed language in a hip hop song of hers. A Tribe Called Red describes their song honoring John T. Williams, a Native American woodcarver who was shot and killed by a police officer in 2010. Musician and glassblower Preston Singletary talks about fusing his native Tlingit culture into contemporary works. And on this week’s edition of “Day Job,” Hozoji Roseanne Mathison-Margolis. By day she’s a shellfish diver for the Puyallup Tribe, by night she plays drums in the nautical inspired rock band, Helms Alee. Support the show.

Today we have an interview with @MrPseu but first we check out the message of Manufacture of Consent by Twelve Foot Ninja. Isn’t this a book title? http://bit.ly/2URzBoC In I Heard This Happened: Noctiluca, a post rock album from Seattle artist Helms Alee. Nicky’s comments: : The album wafts from tight airy Harmonies to bludgeoning heavy guitars as deftly as a group can. It’s not quite lofi but feels purposefully minimalist at times. It’s dark and moody...albeit it won’t let you simmer in any specific mood too long, while never feeling jarring. http://helmsalee.bandcamp.com/album/noctiluca Kyle Meadows new record entitled Full Time Fever is my pock for this week. I wanted a record that would force me to slow down to listen. This record does that with falsetto vocals in a chorus of whispers with meandering loops of acoustic guitar. It's one part, Elliot Smith and one part Iron & Wine. https://kylemeadows.bandcamp.com/album/full-time-fever We chat today with @MrPseu, one of the lords of the twitterverse and host of The Pseudollectual Podcast https://airad.io/thepseu Here are some of the artists we talked about: Garrett’s Life Experience http://bit.ly/2LbLXZ7 Under the Covers Vol. II - Ninja Sex Party https://spoti.fi/2PAUfs7 The Darkness https://spoti.fi/2UPH4EL Steel Panther https://spoti.fi/2V2KTLw Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein on twitter http://bit.ly/2Wi9bOq Ballad of Do Nothing Man http://bit.ly/2vDpXMh Two Man Advantage https://spoti.fi/2V4g0GM Kara’s Flowers https://spoti.fi/2V4kqxb Spin Doctors https://spoti.fi/2GFq3Yw 14:59 - Sugar Ray https://spoti.fi/2vttiNF Lyle Lovett https://spoti.fi/2V6eBiP Corey Morrow http://bit.ly/2INz9pG Blink-182 https://spoti.fi/2IRs5sc Neck Deep https://spoti.fi/2V3AQpD A Day to Remember https://spoti.fi/2XXbvum H2O https://spoti.fi/2PAEAJ6 Avenged Sevenfold https://spoti.fi/2GSsnN7 Jerry Jeff Walker https://jerryjeff.com/ The Avett Brothers https://spoti.fi/2vrWiW4 The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus https://spoti.fi/2PE5srZ Twelve Foot Ninja https://spoti.fi/2DEqWQE Shuriken Guitar http://bit.ly/2XVHviw @MrPseu Recommends Appetite for Destruction - Guns n Roses http://bit.ly/2PfkTGO Enema of the State - Blink-182 http://bit.ly/2GWi5ff It’s Alive - The Ramones http://bit.ly/2GKVEbv Let It Be - The Replacements http://bit.ly/2V6iuEr Greatest Hits - Tom Petty http://bit.ly/2WeLs1B Definitely Maybe - Oasis http://bit.ly/2Le3DTZ Find all the episodes at http://www.ancapmusic.com Check out the show’s spotify soundtrack here:https://spoti.fi/2MFxkKG To Support Us Join The Freedom Choir here: http://www.supportsll.com Click here to sign up for email list:http://bit.ly/2MDWoSg Want the best course in music & liberty online? http://freedomsong365.com
It's baaaack! The return of the infamous Chef's Choice! Jeff and Jobe play whatever the hell they want, with no topic or theme whatsoever. From the band Jeff wishes would've been huge instead of Coldplay to some of Jobe's New Age bullshit, see what the guys have up their sleeves. There's also music from Helms Alee, Houston's Godhand in the Unsigned Artist Spotlight, the show's first Cheerio break, and the guys decide retsin wouldn't be shit without Certs.
We got here another episode for the earballs featuring Ben from Helms Alee. We of course go over some influences of his (and band mates), their interesting backgrounds, the exciting life of touring, and what's behind all the nautical references. Huge thanks to Ben for his time and the rest of the band for letting us use their song Interachnid off of their 5th LP Noctiluca which comes out April 26, 2019! https://helmsalee.bandcamp.com/ In the news Slipknot continues to be surrounded with drama and Ticketmaster continues to suck the life out of big shows. Welcome back! On this episode we talk about how Ryan is missing due to the fact that he's working on the debut album from his band LB! (Pound). We're stoked! Kevin has been busy going to shows - he saw Deftones, He whose ox is Gored and Helms Alee and it's his Birthday week (old man!), while Ian has been having some allergy issues and working on a ton of work projects. In metal news - Behemoth has a fill in drummer this summer, we play a jazz version of "Enter Sandman," the first crop of bands have been announced for 70,000 Tons of Steel metal cruise, Pro-Pain's bassist/vocalist was jumped and assaulted on tour, Iron Maiden is releasing new beers, Dragonforce's singer almost dies, Dying Fetus has their best sales to date and we preview new music from ARCHSPIRE, DECAPITATED and PARADISE LOST. Horns up!
This week's episode is jam packed ! I spoke with members of Helms Alee, He Whose Ox Is Gored AND MxPx ! I also played a ton of raw jams from the NW of course!
Hozoji Margullis is the drumming, singing, multi-instrumentalist badass for HELMS ALEE. We get into the formation of the band, the origins of her name and NOT being Japanese, learning to play open handed while singing/drumming at the same time, the effects of Washington state weather, geek out about the Melvins, and recording their new record Stillicide with Kurt Balllou at God City Studios! It’s the 2 year anniversary of That Awful Sound! For this special episode we revisit New Found Glory’s lovesick, middle school anthem “Dressed to Kill” and its cringey video featuring a y2k-era nice-guy stalker lusting after an equally psychotic Rachel Leigh Cook. To commemorate the 2-year anniversary we dive deeper than ever into our horrible fashion choices, including fake piercings made from household items, hot topic socks worn thin, and temporary tattoos purchased FAR too late in life. We also recap our favorite albums of the year, including Angel Du$t’s “Rock The Fuck On Forever,” Helms Alee’s “Stillicide,” Creative Adult’s “Fear of Life,” Dinosaur Jr’s “Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not,” BADBADNOTGOOD’s “IV,” Nocturnal Habits’ “New Skin For Old Children,” Solange’s “A Seat At The Table,” Field Music’s “Common Time,” Autolux’s “Pussy’s Dead,” and Royal Canoe’s “Something Got Lost Between Here and The Orbit”
Chapter 88: "The STING of freelance art" ...as read by Jaci KVLT Jaci Raia and our buddy Seth Werkheiser joins the first chapter of 2017 for Jacis' story and some of the obligatory 2016 list stuff...but with a slight twist. Jaci is an art director, designer, author, MetalBandCampGiftClub logo creator, all around ass-kicker and she was awesome enough to come on and admit to a few hair bands and tell us a bit about what she does. Then the three of us give our top three releases on 2016 that we think might not be on a lot of lists. Kinda going' off-road with the list. Enjoy. Happy New Year, you lovely scattered few. Welcome back! This week's episode was exceptionally heavy. I started with some Black Breath then went into some new music by Pinned Red. The Band of the Week is a rad ska band called The Georgetown Orbits, so you will hear 2 songs from them. The episode also features songs from Dust Moth, The Young Evils, Red Fang, Helms Alee and Heiress.

Welcome back ! This week on Loud and Local I had special guests KLOVER JANE on the show to debut music from their brand new album SPORADIC INSANITY ! I also featured songs by Helms Alee, Ten Miles Wide and Stoned Evergreen Travelers.
This week on Loud and Local I started things off with some punk and ska from the early 2000's - Instant Winner and Shook Ones ! From there I went all across the board with Dust Moth, Helms Alee and much more. This weeks featured band of the week is Mechanism !
This week we’ve got a scoff-heavy episode as Derek Chacon and James Hernandez help me dissect the goth silliness of Coal Chamber’s “Loco.” Derek recalls a weird goth kid in his guitar class introducing him to the band, loving their edgy darkness as a kid, and, from his current vantage point, likening it to a stranger’s fart. Also: Are these nonsensical lyrics doing ANYTHING for unstable kids? Does buying a “vintage” Pantera shirt make you a hipster? And a last-minute epiphany that might mean nothing or everything. Music we like: Tribulation’s “Strange Gateways Beckon” and Helms Alee’s “Tit to Toe”
Welcome back to Loud and Local ! This week on the show I started things off by featuring two brand new songs by Helms Alee ! From there I went into more new songs by Lesbian, Post/Boredom and Lowest Priority !
We tried something a little different this week, heading over to the ShoWare Center in Kent to do a live show before the Tacoma Stars game. Unfortunately, we were a bit harder to find that normal, but there were still about 20 or so people who made it over. In any case, we were treated to a pretty spectacular match that featured lots of loud music, dancing mascots and scoring. The Stars won, too, on a Mike Ramos goal with less than 2 seconds remaining on the clock. The show consisted of Stars VP of Business Development John Crouch. He gave us some of the history behind the reborn Stars and some of their plans for the future. We also discussed the Obafemi Martins transfer, the new kits and the reaction to the new announcer hirings. We closed out the show by taking a few questions from the crowd. Songs: - remove Blue Scholars; insert "Magic Man (cover)" - Helms Alee

Sometimes, it's good to know Stephen Sarro. He got to be friendly with Andrew Elstner of Torche via the inter-webs and said he would try to get him on the show...and it worked! Andrew was nice enough to tell us his whole story. We've got hilarious stories about James Hetfield and his cell phone...how he had to get a baby at a restaurant involved in joining Torche...fighting evil robots to save Miami and why overseas venues always seem to have gummy candy. Andrew got his copies of "Restarter" about five minutes before he started talking to us, so he is checking them out for the first time while on with us. Torche's new album "Restarter" out on Relapse Records on Feb 24th. Go. Buy. Rock. Seriously..."Barrier Hammer" is one of the heaviest tunes they've ever done.
