It's Anchor Down Week baby and we have the man with the vision, Anchor Down Ultra Race director, Jay Paganelli!Jay shares his journey into race directing and the birth of Anchor Down. The race started in 2015 and was designed to be a challenging and authentic ultra race. Jay wanted to create an event that turned off most runners and tested their limits. The race takes place in Colt State Park, Rhode Island, and offers 6, 12, and 24-hour options. The goal was to create a race that honored the tradition of ultra running and fostered a sense of camaraderie among participants. Jay's passion for the running community and his dedication to creating authentic and challenging races shines through in Anchor Down Ultra. Anchor Down is also known for its epic aid station and high-quality volunteers like Juice Box Guy. Jay, and his dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to create a memorable experience for the runners. The budget for the event is extensive, as it involves securing a state park, paying staff and subcontractors, and obtaining insurance. The race has strict qualification standards to ensure that participants are committed and passionate about being a part of the Anchor Down community. Anchor Down Ultra (ADU) has a preferred entry path that guarantees entry to those who make the effort to qualify and contribute to the ultrarunning community. The race also offers standard entry and an application process for special cases. ADU is known for its authentic and challenging nature, with a start time of 7pm to create a unique experience of running through the night. The race has a cult-like community and attracts elite runners who compete alongside recreational runners. The event has a low-key atmosphere with minimal advertising. In this final part of the conversation, Jay and Erika discuss the upcoming Anchor Down Ultra and share some insights and advice for runners. They talk about the importance of preparation and training for specific race conditions, as well as embracing the challenges and difficulties that come with ultra running. Jay also shares some funny anecdotes about previous races and the unique experiences at Anchor Down. During the tros, Eric and Erika open the episode up LIVE from Colt State Park as they just finished helping with trail prep for ADU this weekend. They come back for the outro during their drive home with another epic recording from the car. This episode features On The Runs pod co hosts Erika Hamel and Eric Knuunntunen who join Reagan "Monkey Stuffer" Fitzgibbons, Celeste FADD, Fred and AFB as we relive all the fun shit stories from the trail, along with a recap on Anchor Down Ultra. After a spicy retelling of the Epic Erie Canal Trail, that Erika basically insisted on hearing, the episode makes a run at greatness, but can't quite get the belt loosened in time, and the space is suddenly filled with questionable #CodeBrown content that only gets worse as the episode heats up. In Episode 67 (oops we said 68 in the intro) we are excited to finally drop our interview with Jeannie Rice (07:00). Jeannie is an amazing woman who continues to impress us as she runs all around the world setting records. She shares with us stories of how she got her start, some of her favorite races around the world and her experience at the Boston Marathon in 2013 during the bombing. We had some audio issues during the recording the the audio on our end (Eric and Erika not Jeannie) wasn't that great. We did what we could to make it better but it's far from perfect. We apologize for the audio issue, but our time with Jeannie was too good not to share. We hope you enjoy the episode despite the audio issue. During the tros we catch up after having a great weekend. We talk about Marc "the Shark" DuBrick who had a great day at the PTO US Open. On EP. 140 we continue our series, "A Man's Voyage." Today on Part 4 Garret talks about the importance of ships coming into the harbor for rest. The same can be true of each of our voyages – As men, like the vessel, we typically find ourselves ‘out at sea' trying to do good work. We continuously run hard, neglecting our spiritual health. Eventually, the elements wear us down until one day, we are incapable of pursuing the voyage God has designed us for. Before attempting to live effectively or model leadership and strength for others, we must first anchor down into a solid relationship with our Creator. To show the Jewish Christians whose faith is fading because of persecution that they can trust God, the author uses somebody they would be very familiar with and would respect greatly—Abraham. He tells his readers that God gave many promises to Abraham and He made an oath to Himself to keep those promises. Abraham, by faith, was obedient and God kept His promises to Abraham, therefore, they can trust that God will keep His promises to them as well as us! He tells them we have a great hope and that hope is a home with Jesus in heaven when we finish the race here on earth. And since Jesus led the way, this hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls…So anchor down!
