Be the geek and improve the you: the Garage Hour is here to help (everybody, apparently)... The lovely Pam called needing info on detailing a dashboard and cleaning seat fabric, so the Gearhead Consultancy went to town with everything from car care on the Front Range to the beauty of factory headlight plastic - it's all about the sincerity of your detail. With our old buddy Craig and special appearances from a $500 Civic, a hampster's Kia, a wrecked 4Runner, a very fine Legacy, a V-6 Accord, and a cherished STi, this episode's on track like a Big Boy. Now, will someone tell us how to clean soap? Don't stop, go: Gruntruk, Toadies, Jane's, Butthole Surfers, Monolord, Low Rider, Coldcut and "Ugly Americans"... We cap it all off with a tale of how not to be a menace in the Bronx while leaving your Audi at a block party in the 'hood.

It was a pleasure to welcome Ewan (Guitars/Backing Vocals) and Zack (Drums) of Scottish Doomsters, Dusk Amadeus onto the podcast. The four piece which are completed by Sasha (Vocals/Guitars/Cow Bell) and Morris (Bass) certainly impressed me when I saw them opening 'The Crypt of the Riff' festival in Belfast last December. The band play this sublime blend of Doom, where the influences of Monolord get mixed with Mazzy Star (courtesy of Belfast born Sasha's vocals) and Dusk Amadeus emerges. Ewan fills me in on how the band started, despite a few line up changes, Dusk Amadeus have now settled into a formidable unit with the latest member Zack taking over on drum duties. Hopefully we'll see them on our green shores again in 2023 to promote the launch of their album, tentatively penciled in for April/May. We get an exclusive taste of this album with the three tracks Dusk Amadeus gave me on the night. Be sure to show them some love, follow them on their socials and Spotify. This week we're joined by Esben Willems, drummer in Swedish heavy band Monolord. Your Time To Shine, the band's fifth album, was released last year on Relapse Records, and we dive into it from his perspective as a musician and producer. Your Time To Shine was his first recording in Studio Berserk, which he took over a year ago. We also discuss touring during the pandemic and the doom label, which is often how the media characterize Monolord. Esben has handled editing, mixing and mastering of Heavy Hops episodes since July of 2021, and it is a joy to record and share one of our conversations with you. Ol' Dirty Hick pulls from some of his favourite albums of 2021. Type O Negative was re-issue and that some of the stuff I never knew I needed in my life. Goth Doom and speaking of Goth Doom BRNO out of Argentina brings it. Daxma, Monolord, and Jointhugger hold the frame work of doom together. The corner stone of this show was 15+minutes of Goddamn High from Earthbong. Check out the show it is a great set list. All Hail The Black Goat this is the Ol'dirty Hick signing off.

Time sure does fly but don't worry - the episode opens with what everyone was listening to for September, except for Hera, who talks about an album back in May. That's how we roll, folks! Then it's onto current matters with Anton reaching for Gloire Éternelle by First Fragment (Unique Leader). It's an interesting choice for the team, with staunch tech death advocates on one side of the house and folks that...let's say lean toward the polar opposite in terms of musical tastes. And yet, there's something undeniable about the way First Fragment blend so many different styles into their unique brand of music. Of course it helps immensely when you have people like Phil Tougas and Dominic Lapointe bringing the heat in at a nuclear level. Unique Leader is no stranger to putting out great technical death metal, but in First Fragment we have something that colors outsides those lines and yet stands as a champion of what the label and genre have to offer. All that and - surprising no one - a lengthy segment about some of the other great music that came out in October (though no mention of Mastodon...something we'll rectify for year, end ;-)) including fellow tech death nerds Archspire who released their mammoth second album Bleed the Future, Monolord's latest Your Time to Shine, and the death doom glory of Foreverglad by Worm. Deep waters ahead so dive in and join the crew!9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
We are hitting up the B-Sides of the Vinyls today. Starting with Monolord's brand new album Your Time To Shine the B-side holds an amazing space and is reminiscent of Pink Floyd Meddle. Some O Type Negative and in a similar vein Port in The Storm from Victoria's Hail the Void . later on we get into some New Creeping Death and the entireB-side of that album followed by Carass' new album Torn Arteries. I hope you all enjoy my B-side selections.

Your Time To Shine (Relapse Records) is Monolord's fifth full length release since exploding onto the doom metal scene back in 2014 with their excellent debut Empress Rising. To say their rise in this genre has been anything other than meteoric would be an atrocity, and even including 'rise' in that statement is misleading since their debut captured fans from across the globe and landed on many best of lists. Their sound has become the new standard in doom metal for anyone looking for something outside the 'paint by numbers' formula that's been around for so long. And, with every album since, their star shines ever brighter. Your Time To Shine continues this tradition and further cements their legacy in doom metal. For this discussion, Buke caught vocalist and guitarist Thomas Jäger on the eve of the album's release as he was just starting to see the buzz surrounding the album get louder and louder. The two chat about the new album and how it came together, how they are hoping an upcoming tour will happen, his other profession as a music teacher and full on thoughts about that, whether the afterlife is a thing or not, and the amazing nugget of how the album cover art came together. They also cover the importance of not making the same album twice, having direction and rules within the band and how they enjoy a lack of all those most of the time, the choice to stick to five tracks and why, and a track pick that represents where the band are today. All this and so much more is covered so jump in and enjoy.9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

The band will head to the USA for the first time in early 2022 with Monolord. Add in to the mix some killer fuzz, crushing doom metal and an obscure 1970's cover and you have a show not to be missed!
