Vinyl records play a significant role in Jay and Deon's lives. They're 100% obsessed with music. But how did this madness all start? Well, episode 40 of LLR examines their origin stories. We've already tackled Side One of our '86 HEAD-TO-HEAD DEATH MATCH featuring MOP & RIB (“Puppets & Blood”), and now it's time to go through Side Two in order to reach our final verdict. As usual, there were difficult decisions to be made, and the deliberation was not easy, but we did it, and the only thing we can really say that will make any sense at all is that it's really hard to compare two such incomparable albums that are as equally incredible yet vastly unique as tacos and spaghetti.    Get ready to find out how “left-handed guitar picks” can impact your playing and discover the mythical metal legend known as “Ozzy Dio”. It's time to learn which song is “Slayer's Enter Sandman” and become more familiarized with some of the more commonly used “country sayings” in the South that may or may not also apply to “fruit flies”. In short, “don't be a fricker” and JOIN US for the nail-biting conclusion to our '86 DEATH MATCH featuring Side Two of MASTER OF PUPPETS & REIGN IN BLOOD.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast   Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on the iTunes/Apple Podcasts - Spotify or your favorite Podcast app Listen on iTunes, Spotify, Podbean, or wherever you get your Podcasts. Join host Michele Forto as she discusses Disposable Heroes on Dog Works Radio. Dogs, to most of us, are heroes without capes. They are there for us in our times of need. They provide a shoulder to cry on when we have a bad day. They help the disabled with all sorts of tasks. They provide therapy in times of crisis. They are there at the door wagging their tails when we come home from work. They protect us from bad guys. They sit at our feet when we watch the game. They share our ice cream, slobber, and all. In my mind they indeed are heroes. And they are not disposable. A story about how wrong I was, and how right so many are? Is there a lesson to be learned about the truth of the shadow in all of us? Carl Young said that the majority of evil in this world can be traced to people being unconscious, but was he wrong? Are they willfully unconscious, willfully ignorant? I wonder because, as I sit here, if he was more right about the truth: what we hate in others is what we need to suppress in ourselves. The individuation process, the obscure night of the soul. We so avoid the difficult and as a result we live with exponentially worse.

This week we conclude our examination of "Vysteria," the fourth 7" single released by Night Demon in 2020. The band discusses the track's lyrical themes, and explains how the lyrics came along as a collaborative process after the music had already been written and recorded. Jarvis takes you line by line through the lyrics to dispel some of the myths and misunderstandings about "Vysteria." Then each member reflects on his parts, and specifically the inspirations behind them and challenges they create in the performance context. The documentary primarily focuses on two ex-players: Jim Otto and Roger Stillwell. Otto was a star center for the Oakland Raiders during the 1960s and 1970s. On the surface, his story seems to represent all that is right about pro football; after a long career he was elected to the NFL's Hall of Fame and then enjoyed great business success as a restaurant franchise owner. Viewers learn, however, that Otto's health is terrible, though he was just 46 at the time of filming. The most-moving story in Disposable Heroes belongs to Roger Stillwell, a 6-foot-6 defensive lineman from Stanford University, who achieved a brief moment in the sun with the Chicago Bears. Stillwell's career ended in an instant during a 1977 game against the Minnesota Vikings

All of that is true... but there's a whole other side to the story that never gets told, names you won't recognise from any history class.
