So far this year, 176 routes have been or are being reviewed by the Ministry of Education; 21 have been cut and 11 have been replaced with different routes or combined with others. Otago schools have been hit hard by the charges, for some came in during the third term. To get Ministry funded school transport assistance, there must be 8 or more students using the bus and they have to go to a state or state integrated school within a certain distance. But the Ministry said the primary responsbility to for transporting kids to school rests with caregivers. Colin McHutchon, principal of Heriot school spoke to Lisa Owen.

We are delighted to bring you a conversation with Professor Emeritus Susan Roaf, of Heriot-Watt University this week to talk about a bunch of fundamental problems in building design and the management of thermal comfort. She is a wonderful guest and we're looking forward to having her back.Originally, we planned to talk about her article COP 28: Net zero buildings by 2050? You have got to be joking! a well-judged critique of the outcomes at the most recent COP but we meandered a bit more than expected, but we still managed to cover most of the issues she raises. In the end, we took in a shared colonial history and its influence on the way we approach managing thermal comfort, problems with architectural education, the flaws in solely thinking about decarbonisation of the grid as a panacea, problems with designing buildings have an over-reliance on technology, as well as her colourful and storied background. In some ways with could be considered a counterpart to last year's episode about thermal comfort with Huda Elsherfif and Andy Simmonds, so check that too if you haven't heard it already.Notes from the showSusan on LinkedInHer article COP 28: Net zero buildings by 2050? In this week's podcast - the only podcast to cover exclusively club rugby in Scotland - Stuart and Dale look ahead to Saturday's matches. As always, we'd like to thank the following clubs for supporting the podcast - Hawick, Marr, Selkirk, Jedforest, Kelso, Glasgow Hawks, Ayr, Melrose, Gala, Peebles, Stirling County, Berwick and Stewart's-Melville. You can hear from these clubs in every episode of the podcast throughout the season when they have matches. In the Premiership this Saturday, Jedforest host local rivals Kelso looking for their first win of the season. After last week's great result at home to Currie, Kelso are in the driving seat to grab the fourth play-off spot in the Premiership. Rugby Radio will be coming live from Riverside Park for full commentary of that game. Heriot's Blues are also in contention for that fourth spot after losing at home to Hawick last weekend, but they have a good chance of putting pressure on Kelso if they can beat Glasgow Hawks at Goldenacre. The Bill McLaren Shield is up for grabs as Selkirk defend the trophy at home to Hawick, who are now home and hosed and will top the table at the end of the 18 matches. That should mean they will be Scottish Premiership Champions but that's not the case in this league - the four top teams have to go through a play-off scenario to decide the title - something Stuart is dead against, and something Dale loves. The two debate this in a heated discussion at the start of the show! Also in the Premiership Currie host Edinburgh Accies and Musselburgh play Marr at Stoneyhill. In National 1 Champions Ayr have finished their campaign and can sit back and see who comes second, but there's only bragging rights at stake for that. Down the bottom end the race is on as to whether GHK or Dundee will be relegated. We look at the four matches being played in that division on Saturday. In National 2 Peebles and Falkirk aren't giving an inch with both claiming good bonus point wins last weekend. Peebles are away at Stirling County on Saturday while Falkirk welcome Berwick to Sunnyside. With Aberdeen Grammar not playing Berwick have the chance to get some more points to stretch clear of Aberdeen using their game in hand, while Stew-Mel play Gordonians. In National 3 and 4 this Saturday eyes will be on Preston Lodge v Orkney - a win for Preston Lodge will mean they take a massive step towards the title, although they can't win it this Saturday. In National 4 Garnock remain the only team unbeaten in National Rugby this season, and should be too strong for North Berwick as they march on to try and gain promotion in their first National League season. On Rugby Radio this weekend at www.rugbyradio.co.uk you can hear two and a half hours of live rugby direct from Riverside Park, with full commentary of the Premiership game between Jedforest and Kelso, plus live score updates from across the country. We are on air from 2.30pm to 5pm. Don't forget to check out highlights of that game on Sunday on Borders Rugby TV at www.bordersrugby.net and YouTube, plus action from Selkirk v Hawick also in the Premiership. Gail convincingly explains how concepts like microaggressions, racial identity politics, and respecting the 87 genders took off in the '90s thanks to a combination of malincentives written into the law, bad court decisions, and a hefty dose of private sector CYA. She gives Inez an alternative explanation for the origins and timeline of wokeness.--High Noon is an intellectual download featuring conversations that make possible a free society. Welcome back to Riot Act, where you can hear a rather tired Steve and Remfry talk about both a busy week for music and a busy week for the pair of them. We gloss over the Q&A's, wrestling and DJ sets that the pair of us have partaken in, and instead get to the chat about new music we've been listening to from the likes of Bloc Party, Puppy, Heriot and Ibiraki, live shows from Low, Armand Hammer and, for the second week running, Tool and the news of Ozzy Osbourne getting COVID. Also we chat about the returning Tattoo The Earth festival… yeah, you heard, it's back! You go 20 years without mentioning something and when you do it comes back within a week! It's hardly the first time either, as we've proved with Crazy Frog, Mr. Blobby and Richard Blackwood, just us mentioning something on the podcast seems to be enough to inspire it to a glorious return. We're magic ... you're welcome. This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy

Gail Heriot is a Professor of Law at the University of San Diego School of Law and a member of the United States Commission on Civil Rights. She joins the podcast to explain the connections between civil rights law and wokeness, how disparate impact criminalizes everything and leads to arbitrary government power, and the real-world consequences of these laws in corporate and university settings. She and Richard also discuss why Republicans are afraid to push back against civil rights law, the current Critical Race Theory controversy as a sign things are changing, and the importance of politicians being pressured by their base. Finally, Gail gives practical advice on what the most important components of an anti-woke agenda would look like, and how she'd like to see politicians treat these issues going forward. It's that time again, Riot Act is here, your weekly look at the world of music, and it's been an incredibly eventful one don't you know! On this week's show Steve and Remfry have been to the movies (sort of) they both watched the brand new Foo Fighters film Studio 666 where the alt rock megastars take on some demonic force in their recording studio. It is a mad enough idea, but is it any good you ask?! Well, we'll be more than prepared to tell you, whilst also having a quick trawl through the archives of other similar films starring bands, from Eminem to The Spice Girls, Michael Jackson turning into a spaceship to Kiss meeting the Phantom of the park, we look at the bizarre history of band movies. We also discuss the latest album releases from Tears For Fears, Sylvaine and Beachheads, review a varied set of gigs from the Rolo Tomassi, Pupil Slicer and Heriot triple header, Nordic Giants ambitiously cinematic show and Dave's triumphant O2 spectacular and talk about new music… sort of, from those greedy buggers Tool!
