Ze noemt zich de Zwarte Weduwe en ze beweert wraak te willen nemen voor wat haar zusters werd aangedaan... Henri Désiré Landru had een huwelijksbureau opgericht, waarin hij de enige kandidaat was. Onder een valse naam begon hij een relatie met tientallen vrouwen, onder wie er een aantal werden vermist. Had hij ze, met het oog op hun centen, als een moderne Blauwbaard om het leven gebracht... en laten verdwijnen in de oven van zijn buitenhuisje in Gambais?In 1992 publiceerde Patrick Bernauw (www.bernauw.com) een bundel "docudetectives" over legendarische vrouwenmoordenaars, onder de titel "Landru bestaat niet". Ook daarin onderzocht hij al de mogelijkheid of Landru inderdaad werd "geflikt". In 1999 was "Zwarte Weduwe" de tweede productie van het gezelschap voor muziektheater van Patrick Bernauw, Compagnie de Ballade. Een mini-musical waarin hij ook zelf de rol van Landru vertolkte, de verteller. Zijn broer Fernand (www.naami.bandcamp.com) zorgde voor de muziek; Fré Schollaert, Amaryllis Temmerman en Ann Devuyst namen de zangpartijen voor hun rekening. Today we are headed to France to talk about one of that country's most notorious serial killers, Henri Landru. My guest today is Richard Tomlinson. Richard first came across the Landru case in the early 1980s when he was researching a Ph.D. in modern French history in Paris. He was trawling through old newspapers in France's national library and got hooked on the saturation press coverage of Landru's sensational trial at Versailles in 1921. He was sure the prosecution's case was wrong and over the next decades maintained his interest in Landru during a career as a writer and journalist in Asia and Europe. Richard joins me from London via Skype to discuss his book Landru's Secret: The Deadly Seductions of France's Lonely Hearts Serial Killer. Richard returned to the subject of Landru in 2016 after an exhibition in Paris revealed previously hidden documents in the Paris Police Archives which suggested that his theory about the case was correct. Landru's Secret is the end of his long quest to discover what happened to the 10 women who disappeared near Paris during the First World War and to explore the possibility that Landru actually killed many more victims. Henri Landru fue uno de los asesinos en serie más famosos del siglo XX en Francia. Aunque la policía sólo pudo probarle once asesinatos, los investigadores le atribuyen cerca de un centenar de ellos. Su forma de actuar era siempre la misma: conocía a mujeres viudas a través de anuncios en la prensa, y cuando se había ganado su confianza les quitaba el dinero y luego las mataba y eliminaba su cadáver. Landru llevó una doble vida durante cuatro años: por un lado un respetable padre de familia, por otro un asesino sin escrúpulos. Su actividad criminal acabó gracias a las pesquisas de varios familiares de mujeres desaparecidas y, tras dos años de investigaciones, fue condenado a morir guillotinado.
