Or rather, is he the hero everyone thinks he is?To explore this, we must also explore what makes a hero, as well as the shifting definitions of what a Jedi is. Is Luke's legacy misunderstood? How does he compare to his father, and his nephew? How did Lucas' perspectives shape and change his hero? How do we reconcile the difference between Original Trilogy Luke, and Sequel Trilogy Luke? How do our generational differences change this debate? More importantly, will Amy and Jay's friendship survive?! Welcome back to the Quarter Portion Podcast, the only Star Wars podcast that finds your lack of faith disturbing! For our first episode of 2019, we're talking about the oldest and perhaps most recognizable icon of the franchise: Darth Vader himself. A recent fan film, "Shards of the Past," came out during the holidays and has since brought in almost six million views. Its high production values and focus on action have many discussing the merits of this storytelling method. [Editorial Note: Pat was thinking of Star Wars Explained during the conversation, not the fan film’s actual channel, Star Wars Theory.]Between this film, the novel "Thrawn: Alliances," and the second "Darth Vader" comic series from Marvel and writer Charles Soule, the original Dark Lord of the Sith has been going through a renaissance of sorts. Rarely has Vader been explored in such depth, and all of these recent developments have Chris & Pat seeing him in new light - especially after the comic series' epic Force-vision conclusion. What did we think of the fan film? What questions are raised and answered in Darth Vader #25? How has our understanding and appreciation of Hollywood's most iconic villain changed recently?Later, a fan question prompts us to discuss the prospects for Obi-Wan and Vader-focused projects. What kind of stories could be told about Master and Apprentice in the back half of their lives? In what form would we like to see these stories told?Tune in for all of this and much, much more![Spoilers for "Darth Vader (2017-2018) #25 - visit Heroes Comics to check out this phenomenal series!]* * * * *Follow the show on Facebook, on Twitter @kyberclub, and Instagram @quarterportionpodcast!Leave us a review on iTunes, and check out our website! Thanks to Daniel Logan for our new intro! If you enjoyed this episode, please Like it, tell your friends, and consider leaving us a review! It doesn't get much weirder than this. "A Caganer (Catalan pronunciation: [kəɣəˈne], Western Catalan: [kaɣaˈne]) is a figurine depicted in the act of defecation appearing in nativity scenes in Catalonia and neighbouring areas with Catalan culture such as Andorra, Valencia, and Northern Catalonia (in southern France). It is most popular and widespread in these areas, but can also be found in other areas of Spain (Murcia), Portugal, and southern Italy (Naples). The name "El Caganer” literally means "the crapper" or "the shitter". Traditionally, the figurine is depicted as a peasant, wearing the traditional Catalan red cap (the barretina) and with his trousers down, showing a bare backside, and defecating." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caganer    Upcoming Events around Kentucky The details for Secular Secret Santa for American Village mentioned in the podcast can be found at https://kysecularsociety.org/2016/12/secular-secret-santa-for-american-village/ Louisville Atheists and Freethinkers Featured Events Tom Flynn, Executive Director of the Council for Secular Humanism Monday, December 19, 2016 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM Sullivan University College of Pharmacy 2100 Gardiner Lane, Louisville, KY   Holiday Party!
