Iconic death metal band, Six Feet Under return with their 14th studio album, ‘Killing for Revenge'. A gnarly beast of a record that's not for the faint-hearted, dishing up nightmare-inducing imagery. It marks the second album that Barnes and guitarist Jack Owen (ex-Cannibal Corpse) have created together since reuniting for 2020's ‘Nightmares of the Decomposed'. The current line-up of Barnes, guitarists Owen and Ray Suhy, bassist Jeff Hughell, and drummer Marco Pitruzzella make for a devastating unit. Yet, it's Jack Owen that has really made the difference, serving as producer for ‘Killing for Revenge'. Brutal, lyrically visceral and musically dazzling. Six Feet Under are back, and ‘Killing for Revenge' is out on May 10th, via Metal Blade Records. We spoke to guitarist Jack Owens about the new album, and how much work he put into it. In particular, looking at his work as producer and how interesting/exhausting that was. Alongside, we also talked about sensational headlines, online trolls, doing what makes you happy, and much more. You often ask us who's standing out and making a move up the depth chart at spring practice, and now, we feel equipped to actually answer those questions.Saturday's Student Appreciation Day gave us our first opportunity of the spring to watch the Buckeyes practice actual football – as in, we got to watch team drills, 7-on-7 drills and head-to-head competition rather than just warmups and individual drills – and as a result, we got our first real glimpse of who's where on the depth chart and who's making plays in competitive action. We spend the first half of this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays talking all about what we took away from Saturday's viewing opportunity, including which players and position groups stood out most and which units look like they still have a lot of work to do between now and September. In the second half of this week's episode (beginning at 30:28), we talk about the impact of a busy week in the transfer portal for multiple Buckeye teams, starting with the football team, who lost defensive backs Lejond Cavazos and Bryson Shaw to the portal on Monday. While those moves are a hit to Ohio State's secondary depth, we discuss why neither of them came as a big surprise and why heading elsewhere at this point in their careers is probably in both of their best interests. After answering some listener football questions, we shift the conversation to basketball (beginning at 48:47) and talk about the likely departure of Malaki Branham from the Ohio State men's basketball team and how the incoming transfer of former Wright State guard Tanner Holden could help fill some of that void. We also discuss who else the Buckeyes could add from the portal – and whether the next priority should be a power forward or a point guard – after Justin Ahrens' entry into the portal. To wrap things up, we also share our thoughts on Chris Holtmann's hiring of Jack Owens and expected promotion of Mike Netti and on what we expect from Thad Matta's return to the sideline at Butler.
Columbus Dispatch Ohio State men's basketball beat reporter Adam Jardy talks the latest in everything basketball news on the newest episode of the BuckeyeXtra Basketball podcast. During this edition we discuss how the Buckeyes recently hired Jack Owens as an assistant coach, discuss the transfer portal and which players are coming and going. Finally, we talk about how former OSU coach Thad Matta is returning to coach at Butler.
Happy Friday folks! We hope you've had a good week to this point, and we hope you enjoyed all of the post season basketball over the past week. We have a lot to cover on this weeks show! To open up the pod, the boys discuss Miami's parting of ways with men's basketball coach Jack Owens'. Owens went 70-83 in five seasons at the helm, and the RedHawks were never able to get over the hump and become true contenders in the conference. This makes three head coaching vacancies in the MAC, and Miami joins Western Michigan and Ball State in their search for a new head of the program. Moving into post season hoops talk, Zack and Zach discuss the valiant effort that Akron put forth in their first round NCAA tournament game against UCLA. The Zips led by one at half time and by eight in the second half, but the Bruins size proved to be too much for Akron to handle. Nonetheless, the future is bright for the Zips, who have basically their entire roster returning next year. Elsewhere in men's hoops, Toledo submitted an incredibly disappointing performance in their NIT opener, losing to Dayton at home 74-55. Kent State didn't fare much better in The Basketball Classic, losing their opening round game to Southern Utah. Ohio picked up the only post season victory, defeating Rice in the first round of the CBI before falling to Abilene Christian in the second round. In women's hoops, Dyaisha Fair and Buffalo fought hard against Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Despite an early Buffalo lead, the Volunteers pulled away in the fourth quarter for an 80-67 victory. Similar to Akron on the men's side, the Bulls performed admirably but were unable to come out on top. In the WNIT, Toledo and Kent State were the only two of the five MAC squads to win their first round games, with Akron, Ball State, and Ohio all falling in the first round. Bowling Green ended their season on a high note, finishing third in the WBI tournament after defeating Nevada in the third place game. To close out the show, the boys re-acquaint themselves with the baseball standings, as conference play has begun in the last two weeks. Central Michigan and Ball State seem to have righted the ship after their early season struggles, and the two preseason favorites currently find themselves at the top of the standings. As always, thanks for stopping by this week folks. Don't forget to subscribe to the Bandwagon on your favorite podcast platform so that you don't miss anything!
